3. INTRODUCTION
The position should be comfortable for the patient and
surgeon
It should allow the surgeon to have maximum control of
the forces delivered through the forceps
It should provide better stability and support to the
surgeon
The dentist’s arms are close to his body when he places
the forceps on the tooth and the force is delivered from
the arm and shoulder with the wrist being steady in
position. This enables a successful extraction

6. CHAIR POSITION OF THE PATIENT
The chair is adjusted such away that the head ,neck and
trunk are in one line, this will nullify any strain caused by
stretching it backward or pushing it forward
For maxillary extraction chair should be tipped back so
that the maxillary occlusal plane is at an angle between
45 and 60 degrees to the floor
Raising the patient’s legs at the same time helps to
improve the patient’s comfort
7. For mandibular extraction ,the patient should be
positioned in a upright position so that when the
mouth is opened widely, the occlusal plane is
parallel or at 10 degree to the floor.
8. POSITION OF THE OPERATOR
The dentist should stand infront of the patient for
extraction in all quadrants except for the 4th quadrant
The dentist should stands on the right side of the patient
during all procedures
For mandibular right quadrant ,dentist may prefer to
stand behind the patient for the extraction and support
the jaw with the other hand coming across the patient ‘s
head from the left side
