COLOR CODED MOTIVES
Motives are the principle means of identifying a personality
color. Each color stands for one particularly strong motive.
Red is for power. Blue is for intimacy. White is for peace.
Yellow is for fun.
REDS
· Are hungry for power. They want their own way, and if raised
in environments where they were able to manipulate their
parents, they become difficult to manage as they get older.
· Want to be productive. They like to work – in school, careers
and relationships. Give them a reason to produce and watch
them take off. Often workaholics.
· Want to look good to others. Need to appear knowledgeable.
Crave approval from others for their intelligence and insight.
Want to be respected more than loved.
· Shouldn’t be taken too seriously. They often just state the
facts as they see them. Seldom say ‘in my opinion’”: Reds
enjoy a good power play.
· Seek leadership opportunities. Despite the rigidity, many
Reds select the military as a career in order to experience
leadership. Control freaks.
BLUES
· Are motivated by altruism. Selfless. Like to bring other
people happiness. Often devote their entire lives to helping
others.
· Crave intimacy. Want to love and be loved. Will sacrifice a
successful career to improve an important relationship.
Nurturing. Gratified when they are listened to, feel understood
and appreciated.
· Need to be loved. A simple pat on the back will note suffice.
Blues expend such great effort in making the world a better
place that sometimes they need to be told how wonderful they
are. They need to be thanked, and need tender loving care.
· Are directed by a strong moral conscience. Motivated to
behave in a proper, appropriate manner. Blues enjoy being
good. More than any other color, they have the strongest sense
of integrity. Blues are the people who should be in position of
power, but seldom are.
WHITES
· Are motivated by peace. Will do almost anything to avoid
confrontation. Feeling good is more important to them than
being good.
· Need kindness, and respond beautifully to thoughtfulness and
amiability. However, they have a strong, silent stubbornness
that surfaces when they are treated unkindly.
· Like to keep a low profile and enjoy their quiet independence.
They like to be asked their opinions but won’t volunteer them.
They need to be coaxed to talk about their skills, hobbies and
interests.
· Are independent and want to avoid being controlled. Whites
want to do things their own way in their own time. They will
comply with unreasonable demands just to keep peace. They
don’t like to be pushed, and can be fearsome when they finally
‘blow up’.
· Are motivated by other people’s desires. They are open to the
recommendations of others on ways to resolve any and all
situations. White executives value new ideas from employees.
White children welcome help. Whites make agreeable dates.
YELLOWS
· Value play. They consider life to be a party, and they’re
hosting. Yellows just want to have fun.
· Welcome praise. They need to be noticed, valued and
approved of, and need to be told all of the above.
· Need intimacy. They often appear so nonchalant that people
think they don’t care about anything, but nothing could be
further from the truth. They need attention and stroking.
· Want to be popular. They like to be center stage. Socially
looking good is very important to them. Friendships command
a high priority in their lives because popularity answers their
need for approval. Very verbal.
· Like action. Easily bored, seek adventure. They choose
friends who refuse to allow the boring details to get in the way
of the most important thing in life – play!
NOTE: If your first and second colors are only about 1 or 2
points apart, then you are a mixed color.MIXED COLORS
· Red-White combinations are difficult to read because they can
be aggressive and determined one minute (Red), then quietly
passive the next (White). Your guiding motive is power or
peace rather than intimacy. You are likely misunderstood
because your behavior is inconsistent.
· Red-Blue combinations are the most difficult. If you are
strong in both categories, you will often find yourself stepping
on someone’s toes to get a task completed (Red), but feel guilty
afterward for making that person unhappy. (Blue).
· Red-Yellow combinations are natural leaders and find
themselves in a comfortable blend. The Red dynamically
directs your life, while the Yellow charismatically invites
others to enjoy your friendship.
· Blue-Whites are comfortable. You express yourself softly and
sincerely. Your personality is easy to read. People find you
determined, yet flexible. You are someone with whom almost
anyone can get along.
· If White and Yellow are your two strong colors, you possess
the best people of all the personalities. You are relaxed and
usually take the path of least resistance. You don’t experience
much conflict between your colors.
· Blue-Yellows are fun to tease. They are dual personalities
because they can be footloose and carefree one minute, then
suddenly turn very serious the next. They are intimacy-based
and have no strong desire for power in their relationships.
Ultimately, whoever you are, you are driven by one basic
personality. You must find it even though it may be concealed
in a mix of two or more colors.
Project #2:
PERSONALITY PROFILE PAPER (10 Pts.)
The objective of this project is for students to explore and
understand different personality types and how these differences
influence and effect communication.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITY: Each student will complete The
Personality Profile (will be available on TITANium) and have
someone you communicate with regularly, but not in this or my
other classes, also complete the profile. Upon completion of the
profiles, students will be given an explanation and further
information on how to interpret the results.
STUDENT REPORT: With this knowledge of the results, you
will write a paper with a minimum of 3 FULL pages. Your
papers will be typed, double-spaced, 12 pt. font, Times New
Roman, black ink only, and stapled together. Make sure your
papers are free of grammatical and spelling errors ---- you will
be graded on this. Your paper will discuss each of the following
in paragraph form:
· List the personality color for yourself and your friend/partner
[mention the type of relationship
you have with this person (i.e. friend, co-worker,
parent, boyfriend, etc.)].
· According to the ‘Color Coded Motives’, discuss specifically
your personalities for both
you and your friend/partner. (If you’re not blue, red,
white, etc., I don’t want to hear
anything about these personalities.)
· Tell me how both of you are differentAND how both of you
are similar (not your colors).
· How are conflicts, disagreements or miscommunications
handled in this relationship?
· Give at leastone example of a conflict, disagreement or
miscommunication you have had
with this person and discuss how you might deal with
the situation now that you are more
aware of their personality type.
· Discuss how different personality types affect (positively or
negatively) communication.
BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO PLAGIARIZE FROM THE
HANDOUT
ON HOW TO INTERPRET THE RESULTS!!!
DUE DATE: Papers are due at the beginning of class on
THURSDAY, February 27th

COLOR CODED MOTIVESMotives are the principle means of identifying .docx

  • 1. COLOR CODED MOTIVES Motives are the principle means of identifying a personality color. Each color stands for one particularly strong motive. Red is for power. Blue is for intimacy. White is for peace. Yellow is for fun. REDS · Are hungry for power. They want their own way, and if raised in environments where they were able to manipulate their parents, they become difficult to manage as they get older. · Want to be productive. They like to work – in school, careers and relationships. Give them a reason to produce and watch them take off. Often workaholics. · Want to look good to others. Need to appear knowledgeable. Crave approval from others for their intelligence and insight. Want to be respected more than loved. · Shouldn’t be taken too seriously. They often just state the facts as they see them. Seldom say ‘in my opinion’”: Reds enjoy a good power play. · Seek leadership opportunities. Despite the rigidity, many Reds select the military as a career in order to experience leadership. Control freaks. BLUES · Are motivated by altruism. Selfless. Like to bring other people happiness. Often devote their entire lives to helping others. · Crave intimacy. Want to love and be loved. Will sacrifice a successful career to improve an important relationship. Nurturing. Gratified when they are listened to, feel understood
  • 2. and appreciated. · Need to be loved. A simple pat on the back will note suffice. Blues expend such great effort in making the world a better place that sometimes they need to be told how wonderful they are. They need to be thanked, and need tender loving care. · Are directed by a strong moral conscience. Motivated to behave in a proper, appropriate manner. Blues enjoy being good. More than any other color, they have the strongest sense of integrity. Blues are the people who should be in position of power, but seldom are. WHITES · Are motivated by peace. Will do almost anything to avoid confrontation. Feeling good is more important to them than being good. · Need kindness, and respond beautifully to thoughtfulness and amiability. However, they have a strong, silent stubbornness that surfaces when they are treated unkindly. · Like to keep a low profile and enjoy their quiet independence. They like to be asked their opinions but won’t volunteer them. They need to be coaxed to talk about their skills, hobbies and interests. · Are independent and want to avoid being controlled. Whites want to do things their own way in their own time. They will comply with unreasonable demands just to keep peace. They don’t like to be pushed, and can be fearsome when they finally ‘blow up’. · Are motivated by other people’s desires. They are open to the recommendations of others on ways to resolve any and all situations. White executives value new ideas from employees.
  • 3. White children welcome help. Whites make agreeable dates. YELLOWS · Value play. They consider life to be a party, and they’re hosting. Yellows just want to have fun. · Welcome praise. They need to be noticed, valued and approved of, and need to be told all of the above. · Need intimacy. They often appear so nonchalant that people think they don’t care about anything, but nothing could be further from the truth. They need attention and stroking. · Want to be popular.
