2. Woodblock printing is a techniques that was
used for printing text, images and patterns. This
method originated in China dating before 220
AD. The block would be carved with a chisel or a
knife with the printing backwards. This is then
dipped in ink and placed over the cloth for
printing.
3. This is the process of printing using a stone
or a metal plate a smooth surface. This
method was invented in 1796 by an German
Author as this was a cheap way of printing
and can be used to print text or artwork on
a cloth or any other suitable materials.
4. Letterpress printing is a technique using a printing
press which is a process in which many copies are
produced by. They are made using a special machine
which replicates what is trying to be copied so there
can be many.
5. Engraving was a historically important method
of producing images on paper in artistic
printmaking. It has since been replaced by other
techniques such as etchings. Engraving would
also be used to carve messages into jewellery for
sentimental value and decoration.
6. Etching is traditionally the process of using strong acids to cut into the
unprotected parts of a metal surface to create a design, print text or
create an image in the metal. This was a technique that started during the
end of the 15th century.
7. At some point, all of these methods were considered the best and easy way to print text and images
traditionally or modern however, the big difference between traditional methods of printing and
modern are that, most of the traditional methods consists of the text or images to be drawn or carved
into a metal or wood surface and dipped in ink to then be printed onto a material, where as in the
modern days, we use computer software’s to print out what we need. Most of the traditional
techniques would consume a lot of time and energy where as printing in the modern days takes
seconds. There were also a variety of methods for traditional printing and modern printing only has
one way of printing. This has been made easier as most people now use digital devices so everything is
done on their devices and can be sent to the printer to print it out or saved onto their devices instead
of having printed copies. This is efficient over printing materials to only thrown them away as on a
digital device when it is not needed it can be deleted. Lithographs was seen as a cheap way of printing
especially in the publishing works. Letterpress printing was a quicker way to do printing as the
machine used to print would make more than one copy which people could then use in future. My
opinion is that digital printing is better and easier to print than using traditional techniques as it saves
time, money and resources.
