The document discusses surveys and data collection related to staff, student, and parent perceptions of discipline and school climate. It provides custom survey links for various schools to administer surveys to gather this data from October 1-12. It also discusses conducting observations of student behavior in common areas of schools using an observation form, and collecting discipline referral data to analyze trends in behavioral infractions by grade level, location, and other factors. The school team will make a plan for completing the data collection and analysis prior to their scheduled coaching visit in November.

4. Data collected regarding students’ behavior
in common areas of the school: cafeteria,
shared hallways, auditorium, arrival/dismissal
areas; determine areas to be observed.
Multiple persons on staff; may want to
choose 1 “unbiased/unassuming” guest
Use the Common Area Observation Form;
also consider using video camera for later
analysis
Conduct during the busiest usage times; have
at least 2 observers for each targeted area for
purposes of comparison; set observation
dates/times—complete them prior to your
scheduled coaching visit.

5. Data collected regarding students’
behavioral infractions
Referrals often generated by variety of
staff; sometimes are “dealt-with” by an
individual or small group of administrators
Who are our “frequent flyers”? Where are
the majority of referrals generated? What is
the breakdown by grade level?
Use the discipline referral data you already
collect.
You have already turned in data from last
year. Use this and consider reviewing
quarterly.

6. What do you want to know about regarding
school-wide discipline?
Example: Where are the majority of the
referrals coming from on campus?
Will these tools give you the information
You need to answer the question(s) you
have?
If not, are there any other types of data you
need to gather in order to find the answer?
Other types of behavioral data…
