2. Dan Wilson has been in sales, sales management and sales consulting for over 30 years. He has received numerous sales awards and was the top producer nine out of twelve years. He has sold business services, commodities and consumer goods, both B2B and through dealer networks and mass merchants. He has also sold a wide range of products and services as an independent manufacturer’s representative and served six years as the chief sales and marketing officer for a midsized, publicly traded manufacturer of office machines. Dan began a deliberate transition to training and performance improvement 13 years ago as an independent consultant advising companies on sales force initiatives and conducting sales training. In 2002, he was appointed regional director for the American Management Association (AMA) where he sought out and project managed large and/or complex training initiatives. Some of the projects at AMA included strategic planning facilitation and development of on-boarding, leadership development, and employee assessment programs. With a bachelors degree in secondary and adult education from Loyola University of Chicago and a Masters of Liberal studies that emphasized strategic, critical and creative thinking from Fort Hays State University in Kansas, Dan began doctoral work in 2007 and is currently a PhD candidate at Capella University. His doctoral work emphasizes human performance improvement in a business organization setting. During coursework, Dan successfully implemented twelve field performance improvement projects that earned him a 4.00 GPA. Dan is a frequent author of white papers and articles. He is known to friends and associates as friendly and innovative with a wit that is sometimes corny, sometimes dry. His favorite quote is from John F Kennedy who once described himself as “an idealist without illusions.” Career Summary
3. Portfolio The Capella PhD program is designed to increase credibility as a leader in training and performance improvement and provide advanced knowledge in human performance technology (HPT). Based on the American Society for Training & Development's (ASTD) ADDIE model of human performance improvement, the specialization is designed to deepen understanding of strategic and tactical issues that are critical to the success of performance improvement interventions, and provide the opportunity to advance the field through doctoral research. During completion of coursework in the Capella program, Dan conducted and reported on 12 field projects. Reports are available on the left side of this page. Reports are necessarily academic in nature and names of individuals and organizations have been fictionalized. Dan is currently working on his dissertation studying the use of customer relationship management (CRM) software data in the use of training needs assessments and evaluations. He was also honored recently with the acceptance of two articles for publication. The first, on ROI, will appear in the June issue of ASTD’s InfoLine and the second will appear in the October issue of ISPI’s PI Journal.
