Understanding Multi-Camera Formats
Series of multi-camera productions
Live Events
X – Factor
Football
Cricket
Etc
A multi Camera Production is when there is more than one camera in a show,
this shows that each camera is doing one thing as in. For example,
X Factor is a massive show and multi cam is used at X – factor to show the
audience reactions and to show the performance. Also the reason why
multi cam is used to close up, wide, extreme wide, extreme close up and
mid shot.
Identify why multi- camera productions are used. What
are the advantages and disadvantages?
• The advantage is that its easy to use multi- camera , as in one go it will film
different angles, so it don’t need to be done again. There will less issue
with continuity.
• The disadvantage is that it will be a cost for the much cameras they need,
it will be a cost for the crew. There might be a issue of controlling the
vision mixer as there is different channels.
Multi camera production could cover every action the performer takes, and
also it will persuade the viewer that this is a great show. As there event
will be covered in different type of angles.
Plan a multi-camera production
• I would like to cover massive shows For example, X –factor because it
would be live also it’s a experience as when it comes to massive shows I
will be ready, also I would like to cover a football match. I would be
expecting all the adults and teenagers and kids to be at the show as it will
involve all the talent that a human has. It will be similar to Britain got
talent.
• As a experience I have covered 20 multi camera production shows, I was
operation one camera at each show, I could see how I improved from each
one, this was out of school.
