CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background
At the beginning of its development, the wood is fuel the most widely used
because it is easy to obtain and simple to use, but now the pressures on the forest is very
large, because illegal logging much done by people who are not responsible. It causes
product of wood diminishing for fuel, for it required the replace of alternative and one
of them is the production of charcoal briquettes.
By the use of charcoal briquettes as fuel, we can save the use of wood as the
main result of the forest. Besides that, the use of charcoal briquettes can save expenses
to buy kerosene or LPG gases. Other benefits can increase people’s income if the
making charcoal briquettes can be utilized well and the next charcoal briquettes for sale.
Materials for charcoal briquettes are very easy to obtain, one of which is sawdust.
The effort in the utilization of waste sawdust, where is sawdust which is still
binding energy. Therefore, process is extended energy release by utilizing sawdust as
the production charcoal briquettes. By utilizing sawdust as the production of charcoal
briquettes will increase the utilization of forest waste and reduce air pollution, because
all this time sawdust that is just simply burned.
From the above background, the writer tries to make a research about production
of charcoal briquettes from sawdust, by tittle of BUGEMM, “Briquettes from Sawdust
as Fuel alternative replace to Coal”.

1.2 The Problem Formulation
The problem formulations in the research are:
1. How does the process of production briquettes from sawdust as a fuel replace of
coal?
2. Why the production of charcoal briquettes using sawdust ?
1.3 The Purpose
The purposes in the research are:
1. To know the process of making briquettes from sawdust as fuel replace of coal.
2. To know the reason for the production of charcoal briquettes using sawdust.
1.4 Significance of Study
By the holding this research on the production of sawdust briquettes as fuel
alternative replace coal, writers hope that readers are able to know the process of
making briquettes from sawdust. Because the holding of this research, was able to
utilize sawdust so it does not need to be removed and made into briquettes to support
human activities.
