Stan Jones welcomed me to the Waste
Minimization Team and asked, “What do you
need for presentation at our next meeting?”
Knowing he was joking about the
presentation I replied, “A couple of flash-pots
and some midi-triggers.” His face was
unforgettable, since he didn’t yet know we
were fellow musicians. We laughed until we
cried and have been close friends ever since.

Without a doubt, my favorite memory is
working the COVID-19 drive-through

So many people came together to make it
happen, and it was an incredible experience
despite the weather and long hours on days
off. The community support and the thanks
folks expressed as they came through
made it all worthwhile.

improvements at Troutdale Reynolds Industrial

tribe. Also, receiving kudos from the City of

put the chicks in a cardboard box in the bed of my

stressed that I was stealing her babies. As the
chicks peeped the entire way, I drove slowly over
to the slough behind Maintenance and set them
free to be joined by their mom.

Great teamwork by a lot of people to produce a fun, informative and well attended event. Sean Loughran 15 YEARS FAVORITE PORT MEMORY

  • 33. Ken Anderton 20 YEARS FAVORITE PORT MEMORY The most memorable times are when the Port team pitches in together to meet a major milestone. For me, it was after years of planning, design and construction when our team finished improvements at Troutdale Reynolds Industrial Park and received a letter of appreciation for protecting sensitive areas from the Grand Ronde tribe. Also, receiving kudos from the City of Troutdale and many stakeholders for turning a brownfield site that would have remained vacant into a thriving jobs center.

As part of the amazing team the Port and OHSU put together, we were able to see in real time how happy, relieved and appreciative community members were to get their shots.
  • 36. Kelly Dougan 20 YEARS FAVORITE PORT MEMORY I was working for Wildlife and a mallard with 10 chicks was seen waddling across Taxiway Bravo 8 toward Runway 28 Left. In order to get the family to a safe location – and keep the runway safe – I put the chicks in a cardboard box in the bed of my pickup. Momma squawked and circled by air, stressed that I was stealing her babies. As the chicks peeped the entire way, I drove slowly over to the slough behind Maintenance and set them free to be joined by their mom.

Good memories in that challenging work, and a sense of teamwork, focused purpose and pride.
