Essay on Basketball
Since I was a child, I loved watching basketball games. I remember when I was around six years old,
there was a game on the t.v taking place at OAKA in Greece, and my favorite team AEK was
playing against PANATHINAIKOS. The game was going to start at ten o'clock and my dad didn't
want me to stay awake to watch it. I started crying as always– when I wanted something I was doing
that –and my dad couldn't see me crying so he agreed and said that we were going to watch the game
together. I was so happy about that, and I said thanks to my father. All my favorite players were
playing and the game was unbelievable. I knew from that night, that I wanted to be a basketball
player when I grew up....show more content...
After two years things were not better. I had to make a choise. The school was not going so good
and I was so sad. I couldn't study and I couldn't think of anything else but playing basketball. My
mom was worrying about me all the time. She asked me a lot of times, what was bothering me
but I was afraid to tell her, because I was not sure if I was right. I started changing, I was rude to
everybody, I was fighting all the time with my family and my friends and I became more close to
my self. I had to do something about my situation and choose what I wanted to do.
One day a friend of mine gave me a tape with some rock songs to listen to, and I went up to my
bedroom to play it. I put the tape in the radio and there was the answer. I listened to a song called
"Hart Of Steel" and that was it. The song said " stand and fight, live by your heart, there is always
one more time, I am not afraid to die, stand and fight, say what you feel, born with the hart of
steel"and I did what I felt like. I went downstairs to my father and I decided to tell him that I made
my choice. I told him that the next day I was going to join the team that I wanted to play in, and
nobody was going to stop me doing that! It was the first time that I did what I felt and what I
wanted to do and I was not scared of my father. I do not know what he felt that time but in his eyes I
saw a shine. Maybe I did what he wanted me to do, I mean to make a

A Daily Routine Basketball is a sport found by Dr. James Naismith in a YMCA gymnasium in
Springfield, Massachusetts in 1891. Today you will find over 250 million people playing the
sport all around the world and is . It has built a world where it has changed a lot of people's lives
in a matter where some people play basketball for a living and earn money off of it. Basketball is
a sport where teammates learn valuable communication skills, which leads them to building
relationships. To the profession, it requires hard work just like any other job and it allows you to
see places you never would think of. Ever since basketball was brought up to this world it has and
is still developing. What is basketball? Basketball is a team sport where a ball is dribbled
between opponents and is passing around through teammates to eventually throw or shoot the
ball with their hands in the 10 feet raised basket on the respective opponents side of the court.
There are 2 teams playing 5 on 5 with at least 2 referees on the court and maximum of 3. You
usually play a total of 40 minutes a game with a 24 second shot clock. There is a lot of rules that
need to follow with the sport. When you play organized basketball with referees and a score table
there is a lot of clocks that you need to be familiar with; game clock, shot clock, backcourt clock,
three second, five second and timeouts. All of these clock rules are in the game to make it faster,
more entertaining and harder/easier to play the

Personal Essay : Basketball And Basketball
Growing up, the only thing I looked forward to was playing sports throughout high school. I
played basketball, volleyball, and softball in the rec league. It was my favorite thing to do, I loved
being active. I was on a traveling basketball team in 5th–6th grade which was a transition from
leaving rec sports to traveling with my friends. This is when competing against competitive teams
from different towns started. In 6th grade, I was asked to play on a traveling volleyball team with a
group of older girls. It was a privilege to get to play with them and be coached by experienced
coaches. I learned what to do, when to do it, what not to do and everything in between about
volleyball and myself. At the time, I was looking forward to start 7th grade because that's when
all the sports and traveling as a team started. I played volleyball in 7th grade with my classmates
and towards the end of the season, I hurt my right foot. I ended up with tendinitis and stress
fractures. I didn't get to finish out the season because I was in a walking boot for two months. I
was hoping to be better and ready to go by basketball season. Basketball started and my foot
continued to get worse, I ended up on crutches and didn't get to play basketball. My foot was finally
healing by the time track started.
I decided, even though I hate running, that I would give track a try because all my friends were
doing it and what didn't kill me would only make me stronger. I actually got to the point where I

My Experience Of Playing Basketball
The first time I played basketball was like the first time finding myself. I started playing basketball
when I was very young and I fell in love with it. I was really really good from a young age, I had an
innate ability to play basketball. I had fun dribbling and doing all the dirty work, I liked the
running and playing defense I loved every aspect of the game. The first experience I remembered
was when I was in 4th grade and it was the champion ship game against Lakeland. Lakeland was
always super good and before this game we never have gotten even close to them in score. This
game was different. It was 32–28 our lead and we had 2 mins left. I remember Lakeland only had
one good player and I was guarding him, it was the hardest challenge of my life because this kid was
the best. I was guarding him and he shot a 3 and somehow it went in so now the score was 32–31
with about a minute left. We had the ball and we were dribbling up the court but somehow, they got
the ball back and scored so now the score was 33–32 their lead. My coach (my step dad) calls a time
out and brings us together and says "now boys this is the closest we have ever gotten to beating this
team so let's not let it slip away" everyone looked at each other and we knew we had to do
something. So, we made a play so I could score to win the game. I was so nervous; the play was
called "2". the play would start at the top of the key and I would have to run up to the elbow and
then someone would come and pick for me and I would do a back door. We tried the play in
practice a couple days prior to this game but we never put it in action. So, the time out ended and
we went back on the court. my heart was beating and my legs were shaking. So, we bring up the
ball and we all get in position, now there is about 40 seconds on the clock and we wait a little bit
before we start the play to take some time off the clock. But then finally the point guard yells out
"2" and my heart drops even more. but I do what I'm supposed to and pop up and then here comes
the screen. I set my guy up the cut back door. I got a perfect pass from my team mate and I go up for
the shot and I get hammered. Someone fouled me really hard and I fell and I had no idea if it went

I can recall this day unquestionably. It was a bright summer day, the trees looked taller and the
daily breeze was magnificent. I had just woken up from a nap, when I received a text message
from my basketball coach. It read, "Hey girls, let's get together and go hoop at the rec today." I
read the message and I was amped with excitement. It had been months since I had actually
played basketball with all girls. I missed it so much. I tried to stay busy to pass the time, so I begin
to clean. My apartment was a mess and I knew that I would be cleaning for a while. I washed the
dishes in what I can imagine was one of the happiest ways ever. I was actually singing while

I let my teammates know that I called next after the guys that were sitting. Everyone seemed
excited, my coach had the biggest smile on her face. After about 15 minutes of shooting around it
was time for us to play. The time had finally come, I thought to myself. We walked onto the court
and established who was guarding who. We were ready to play. I looked around to see who I was
going to guard, and as I looked around in a quick 360 glance it seemed as though all the guys that
we were about to play had this annoyed look on their faces. I even seen an eyeroll from one of the
guys. I wasn't really sure what it was about until the game actually started. They weren't taking us
serious at all. There was a ton of goofy passes , and tricks. It seemed like they were trying to
embarrass us or something, but this ignorance did not stop us. We kept playing hard and begin
beating the boys by about 5 points. Once they realized this they began to get serious and play
harder. While I was running down the court for a fast break I heard one of their friends on the
sideline say "Hell no." I believe he was referring to the fact that we were winning. He obviously
didn 't want that to happen because he would have to play against us, and God forbid girls playing
basketball with guys; oh no! Eventually, the game was over. We walked off the court with our heads
held high, but I could tell that the way the guys were acting bother my

Basketball was my favorite sport growing up. I've played since I was little and I still play the
game today. I played basketball at my elementary school, St. Cecilia, from Kindergarten till 8th
Grade and also played AAU basketball for about 2 years before entering High School. Going into
my freshmen year of High School, the first sport I played was basketball. Tryouts began in about
the start of November and ended about 2 weeks after. I had made the Freshmen A team. I was
excited and as the season progressed, we didn't win many games but I still had fun playing.
Nearing the end of the season, golf was another sport coming up that I also wanted to try and play.
I say "try and play" because at the time, I was also going to play AAU basketball. I had set in my
mind that I was going to play basketball for all of my four years of high school, but my parents
pushed me to tryout for golf. When the basketball season ended, golf tryouts started. Tryouts
lasted for about 2 weeks, and I made the JV team. When I found out I made the team, I was very
surprised. I hadn't put in the hard work as others before tryouts came around, but the coach saw
potential in me and that I can become a great player. The coach saw so much potential in me, that
every week, I kept progressing in skill and fine tuning my mechanics. Halfway through the season,
about 4 or 5 weeks after I made the team, my coach gave me the chance to play with the Varsity Golf
team for a couple days. I was excited and eager to

professional basketball players and make them my own because they expand my arsenal of tricks.
There are a variety of tricks the players perform during games it makes the games much more
enjoyable to be watching. My favorite player to watch is Kobe Bryant. He makes basketball seem as
a mere game for little kids. He is an all around athlete is still going strong at 30 years old. He is a big
role model to many kids who enjoy playing this sport. Kobe can do anything he is a very versatile
player and could get anywhere around the court in a blink of an eye. Bryant is the definition of
all–around in my book. He knows how to play both sides of the game offense and defense. I look
at Kobe Bryant as the ultimate weapon. I want to play like him as I continue to get better and better
every time I play basketball. Kobe makes the game much more enjoyable to watch because of his
acrobatic shots and stunning defense. Basketball is my favorite sport of all–time. There are just

Basketball : The Game Of Basketball
The game of basketball started in December 1891. Basketball was founded by a Canadian born
instructor named James Naismith at the Young Men's Christian Association training school in
Springfield, Massachusetts. The YMCA developed rules for the game which were later used in high
schools, colleges, and settlement houses. The game grew bigger and popular in a lot of areas.
Particularly in urban areas, where games were sponsored by schools, social clubs, churches, and
companies. Colleges sponsored tournaments to attract players to their school. The best players
around the world would attend these tournaments and invitational meetings in hope to earn
scholarships or enter semipro leagues around American cities. Not only did men play the game of
basketball but women, particularly in the south, received similar opportunities to play basketball for
sponsored teams. Throughout the 20 centaury, basketball was a primary sport in inner–city
playgrounds and urban recreational communities. College basketball was the main form of
organized basketball beginning in the 1930s. The American basketball league began in the 1920s.
As professional as the ABL was, it could not compete with college basketball. However the
American basketball league changed the college basketball world. One of the main places
basketball was played was at the Madison Square Garden. The first ABL elite program was the
Boston Celtics. In the 1920s they won as much as 90 percent of their games. The game of basketball

Running into the gym with my team, knowing it was my last middle school basketball game, but

seeing all the bleachers filled with people. After realizing even the press and other media was in

doing basketball drills, when I began to look at the flags on the gym wall depicting the history of the
basketball team. The years and dates of the last championship game, Historically a championship
game had not been won since 2007 . The more I stared at the flags, the more it made me want to
win this game and make history in this gym. As the crowd and cheerleaders start to chant, cheer

game that I've played. Waiting for the referee to blow the whistle for jumpall to start. I felt my

Basketball and my life
I have throughout my whole life been playing sports. I still play basketball competitively and now
it's at the university level. Basketball though was not my first love when it came to playing sports.
It has though become my true focus since junior high school. Coming from Canada everybody
plays hockey. Its almost as if as soon as you learn to walk you learn how to skate. Whether it is at the
recreation centre or at the shinny rink around the corner everyone plays. Eventually I abandoned
hockey to play basketball which I have done so for the last twelve years of my life and hopefully a
few more years into the future.

I was the starting centre for the Alberta 15 and under provincial team. Once this happened I started
to receive better coaching to help hone my skills. The most important thing that happened was my
passion for the game flourished. By my junior year I had became a first team all star at nationals for
basketball and helped lead my team to second in the country. At this time it began to look like that I
would just have a good high school career but also a chance to try and prove myself in university.
My senior year proved to be my toughest year as I tried to decide where I wanted to continue with
my dream of playing the sport I love. All of a sudden I had schools from western Canada all to the
way to the Atlantic trying to get me to play at their school. During this year I received my greatest
achievement yet when I was named a starter for the first ever adidas all Canadian all–star game.
When I was younger I realized that the NBA was almost too high a bar to reach I decided that the
NCAA would be a great achievement. Eventually that opportunity presented itself to me in the
form of two schools. NAU and Montana St. expressed interest and I struggled to decide where I
wanted to spend the next four or possibly five years of my life. All of the people that I had met
while visiting each school were just so nice. I didn't want to disappoint any of them. When I got a
chance to play here at NAU on full scholarship I decided that this was the perfect

Informative Essay About Basketball
What It Takes
Intro
Ever wonder what it takes to be a college athlete? Sure, the games and events are fun to watch but
what exactly goes into preparing for these events and games? I will tell you exactly what it takes and
what a college basketball player goes through because all the audience sees are the flashy views of
the sport. However, we will now take a look at the sport from the other side of the ball.
Background
The game of basketball was created by Dr. James Naismith in 1891. The original equipment of the
game was a literal peach basket and a soccer ball. By 1892 the first official game of basketball was
played in a YMCA in New York. Then by 1895 basketball was a standard sport and began to be
played all around even within high schools and colleges. In 1906 rims and back boards were made
and by 1949 basketball could be played professionally. As the sport came along the skill level of
players increased and the game became flashier. Numerous professional legends were showcases
like Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, and Charles Barkley. Now the game is super complex and skill
driven.
Sure, the sport is exciting to watch, but there is a vast number of things that the player puts into the
sport. A college basketball player puts countless hours into the sport. With the combined time of
treatment, practice, and lifting weights, that makes for a full load of work to go along with their
school work. The audience in which watching the game does not see the extra time and effort put

He got to thinking and started combining ideas from other games to make the game of what it is
known today as basketball. Naismith invented this game in 1891 (Faurschou). He decided to start
making little notes of his ideas. He was going to use a slightly large and light ball. Since the game
was made to play indoors the players would have no need to run with the ball. Also players
couldn't hit or strike other players. After Naismith came up with the basic rules he decided what
the goal of the game would be. The goals were first going to be placed low but Naismith decided
that if the other team were defending it, it would be nearly impossible to make a goal. This is
how the idea of the basketball hoop came about. He decided to place the goal over the player's
heads. The goals would start as peach baskets but would later evolve into hoops (Padwe). The
hoops would be made of iron and a braided cord netting to verify the ball was going through the
hoop (Peterson).Naismith had his game ready but needed a way to start it. He thought of several
different ways but wanted to eliminate roughness. He decided to take part of rugby when the ref
throws the ball in between the players. Naismith said the ball would be thrown in an upward
motion in between both of the centers for each team and this would be the start of the game. The
game of basketball was now ready but just needed people to start it. The kids at the YMCA training
center started

Basketball
Basketball was created a simple game. The primary objective was to place a ball, without dribbling,
into a peach basket. However, like Darwin's theory of man, basketball has evolved into the most
exciting exhibition of athletic ability. Basketball has seen many rule changes, because of the
increasing ability of the players. Basketball is a melting pot, where black, white, and European
people excel. This is a sport that is color–blind. This sport requires complete control over one's body
and mind. Pure strength is required to fight through opposing teams picks, and to gain position for
rebounds.
Speed is necessary to create space for a shot attempt or a pass. Concentration is vital to dribbling a

Iverson, and many other players, are still young men who participate in smoking weed, beating

Walking onto the court almost every time was definitely a mix of excitement but also terrifying.
Basketball is a team sport so the amount of pressure to perform for your team was very nerve
racking. Although no one can perform perfectly at all time who doesn't want to play as well as
you can in every game. Although every time walking onto the court gave some type of emotion, I
had never had a wave of emotion hit me like it did the first time I stepped on to Rocky's court. I
was especially nervous but truly excited for the fact I was about to prove myself that I could
continue my passion at the next level. I had met the team on my visit and I found out how great all
of the girl were, but after I signed a new kind of anxiety set in. I was so nervous to fit in and be
accepted by my new team. I was also so afraid to let the coaches down. When I got here and
started practice I found out I was worried for nothing. I was accepted by my team and was not
letting my performance anxiety get to me. I decided I was just going to play my game and not worry
so much. I am so thankful that my worrying was for nothing and I feel like I am really going to
enjoy myself here not just in basketball but also in the social aspect. While I was reading The Art
of Fielding I felt myself connecting to Henry the most. Why I was relating to henry was due to him
not being the best of the field but knowing the game and his position so extremely well. Henry is
also from a small–town such I am so I really connected to the feeling. Although throughout the story
he started to allow himself to get performance anxiety. Learning more about it will allow me to be
more aware of the feeling and deal with is before it becomes an issue. Henry was very dedicated to
baseball, he not only played the game he also spent so much time studying the game to improve
his performance. He has a love for baseball that is indescribable and that is why I connected with
him more in the beginning. Henry Skrimshander was just a small town boy who was playing
baseball who really had so clear future ahead of him until one day he proved himself to a college
player who believed he was the next big thing. Mike Schwartz who is the college player who

Me on the other hand, I had older friends that I had already made through basketball. So when I got
to high school even though I was nervous I had a clique that I fit and hung out with . As I hung out
more with the basketball team I started to break out of my shell. Some of the great experiences I
remember were the bus rides to games. We use to make up songs or just crack jokes on each other.
My clique in high school was well know we were known as the ?ballers?. We got along with all
the other people at school. My basketball clique went everywhere together we even had a weekly
senior ditch day to the beach. We went to all the dances in groups and had fun. By the end of my
four years I gained about ten brothers that I knew I could rely on and call for anything at any
time. From freshman year to the time I graduated I became a whole new person thanks to my
teammates and all my experiences that I shared with them. I learned how to talk in both a one on
one and group situation. Thanks to basketball I had developed the fundamental skills to
communicate to friends and family. Being the point guard on the team I had to relay the message
from the coach to the other teammates. So I learned how to communicate and be heard in a big

Informative Essay On Basketball
Basketball has gotten many young African Americans off the streets and out of gangs and drugs.
Before Allen Iverson hit double digits he was on the streets past 12 am or trying to fit in with the
older guys. Then basketball would take up most of his time so he could not have time to be on the
streets. In my first paragraph I will explain what is basketball. In my second paragraph I will explain
the rules of basketball. In my final paragraph I am going to explain how to become a professional
or Overseas player. Basketball players, pros and legends all around the world knew the following
three what is basketball and the history, the rules and the training of basketball and any sport in
general. If they didn't know those three things they wouldn't be who they are today. So when it
comes to basketball skill out ways talent in a long shot.

Do what you do we'll, Get there early, and hustle. One big mistake you can make is try to impress
the coach by doing things that are outside of your skill set. If you are a good rebounder, grab
every rebound. If you are a shooter, shoot when you are open. If you are a good finisher, attack
the basket when the lane is open. If you are a good ball handler, make simple passes and simple
moves. Getting there early shows the coach that you care and that he can depend on you to be on
time to practice and games. Also Hustle, Hustle, Hustle is the main thing they look at. There is no
excuse for any player on this topic. You just have to commit and develop that mentality. When the
ball is on the floor, dive for the ball. Box out on every shot that goes up. Sprint on the fast break.
Sprint to spots on the floor on defense. This is why you see who arent sos killed on teams. They're
willing to do the little things that make teams good or

My Love of Basketball Through the Years

  • 1. Essay on Basketball Since I was a child, I loved watching basketball games. I remember when I was around six years old, there was a game on the t.v taking place at OAKA in Greece, and my favorite team AEK was playing against PANATHINAIKOS. The game was going to start at ten o'clock and my dad didn't want me to stay awake to watch it. I started crying as always– when I wanted something I was doing that –and my dad couldn't see me crying so he agreed and said that we were going to watch the game together. I was so happy about that, and I said thanks to my father. All my favorite players were playing and the game was unbelievable. I knew from that night, that I wanted to be a basketball player when I grew up....show more content... After two years things were not better. I had to make a choise. The school was not going so good and I was so sad. I couldn't study and I couldn't think of anything else but playing basketball. My mom was worrying about me all the time. She asked me a lot of times, what was bothering me but I was afraid to tell her, because I was not sure if I was right. I started changing, I was rude to everybody, I was fighting all the time with my family and my friends and I became more close to my self. I had to do something about my situation and choose what I wanted to do. One day a friend of mine gave me a tape with some rock songs to listen to, and I went up to my bedroom to play it. I put the tape in the radio and there was the answer. I listened to a song called "Hart Of Steel" and that was it. The song said " stand and fight, live by your heart, there is always one more time, I am not afraid to die, stand and fight, say what you feel, born with the hart of steel"and I did what I felt like. I went downstairs to my father and I decided to tell him that I made my choice. I told him that the next day I was going to join the team that I wanted to play in, and nobody was going to stop me doing that! It was the first time that I did what I felt and what I wanted to do and I was not scared of my father. I do not know what he felt that time but in his eyes I saw a shine. Maybe I did what he wanted me to do, I mean to make a Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 3. Personal Essay : Basketball And Basketball Growing up, the only thing I looked forward to was playing sports throughout high school. I played basketball, volleyball, and softball in the rec league. It was my favorite thing to do, I loved being active. I was on a traveling basketball team in 5th–6th grade which was a transition from leaving rec sports to traveling with my friends. This is when competing against competitive teams from different towns started. In 6th grade, I was asked to play on a traveling volleyball team with a group of older girls. It was a privilege to get to play with them and be coached by experienced coaches. I learned what to do, when to do it, what not to do and everything in between about volleyball and myself. At the time, I was looking forward to start 7th grade because that's when all the sports and traveling as a team started. I played volleyball in 7th grade with my classmates and towards the end of the season, I hurt my right foot. I ended up with tendinitis and stress fractures. I didn't get to finish out the season because I was in a walking boot for two months. I was hoping to be better and ready to go by basketball season. Basketball started and my foot continued to get worse, I ended up on crutches and didn't get to play basketball. My foot was finally healing by the time track started. I decided, even though I hate running, that I would give track a try because all my friends were doing it and what didn't kill me would only make me stronger. I actually got to the point where I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. My Experience Of Playing Basketball The first time I played basketball was like the first time finding myself. I started playing basketball when I was very young and I fell in love with it. I was really really good from a young age, I had an innate ability to play basketball. I had fun dribbling and doing all the dirty work, I liked the running and playing defense I loved every aspect of the game. The first experience I remembered was when I was in 4th grade and it was the champion ship game against Lakeland. Lakeland was always super good and before this game we never have gotten even close to them in score. This game was different. It was 32–28 our lead and we had 2 mins left. I remember Lakeland only had one good player and I was guarding him, it was the hardest challenge of my life because this kid was the best. I was guarding him and he shot a 3 and somehow it went in so now the score was 32–31 with about a minute left. We had the ball and we were dribbling up the court but somehow, they got the ball back and scored so now the score was 33–32 their lead. My coach (my step dad) calls a time out and brings us together and says "now boys this is the closest we have ever gotten to beating this team so let's not let it slip away" everyone looked at each other and we knew we had to do something. So, we made a play so I could score to win the game. I was so nervous; the play was called "2". the play would start at the top of the key and I would have to run up to the elbow and then someone would come and pick for me and I would do a back door. We tried the play in practice a couple days prior to this game but we never put it in action. So, the time out ended and we went back on the court. my heart was beating and my legs were shaking. So, we bring up the ball and we all get in position, now there is about 40 seconds on the clock and we wait a little bit before we start the play to take some time off the clock. But then finally the point guard yells out "2" and my heart drops even more. but I do what I'm supposed to and pop up and then here comes the screen. I set my guy up the cut back door. I got a perfect pass from my team mate and I go up for the shot and I get hammered. Someone fouled me really hard and I fell and I had no idea if it went Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Descriptive Essay About Basketball I can recall this day unquestionably. It was a bright summer day, the trees looked taller and the daily breeze was magnificent. I had just woken up from a nap, when I received a text message from my basketball coach. It read, "Hey girls, let's get together and go hoop at the rec today." I read the message and I was amped with excitement. It had been months since I had actually played basketball with all girls. I missed it so much. I tried to stay busy to pass the time, so I begin to clean. My apartment was a mess and I knew that I would be cleaning for a while. I washed the dishes in what I can imagine was one of the happiest ways ever. I was actually singing while washing the dishes. This was very new for me. I even vacuumed the floor...show more content... I let my teammates know that I called next after the guys that were sitting. Everyone seemed excited, my coach had the biggest smile on her face. After about 15 minutes of shooting around it was time for us to play. The time had finally come, I thought to myself. We walked onto the court and established who was guarding who. We were ready to play. I looked around to see who I was going to guard, and as I looked around in a quick 360 glance it seemed as though all the guys that we were about to play had this annoyed look on their faces. I even seen an eyeroll from one of the guys. I wasn't really sure what it was about until the game actually started. They weren't taking us serious at all. There was a ton of goofy passes , and tricks. It seemed like they were trying to embarrass us or something, but this ignorance did not stop us. We kept playing hard and begin beating the boys by about 5 points. Once they realized this they began to get serious and play harder. While I was running down the court for a fast break I heard one of their friends on the sideline say "Hell no." I believe he was referring to the fact that we were winning. He obviously didn 't want that to happen because he would have to play against us, and God forbid girls playing basketball with guys; oh no! Eventually, the game was over. We walked off the court with our heads held high, but I could tell that the way the guys were acting bother my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Narrative Essay About Basketball Basketball was my favorite sport growing up. I've played since I was little and I still play the game today. I played basketball at my elementary school, St. Cecilia, from Kindergarten till 8th Grade and also played AAU basketball for about 2 years before entering High School. Going into my freshmen year of High School, the first sport I played was basketball. Tryouts began in about the start of November and ended about 2 weeks after. I had made the Freshmen A team. I was excited and as the season progressed, we didn't win many games but I still had fun playing. Nearing the end of the season, golf was another sport coming up that I also wanted to try and play. I say "try and play" because at the time, I was also going to play AAU basketball. I had set in my mind that I was going to play basketball for all of my four years of high school, but my parents pushed me to tryout for golf. When the basketball season ended, golf tryouts started. Tryouts lasted for about 2 weeks, and I made the JV team. When I found out I made the team, I was very surprised. I hadn't put in the hard work as others before tryouts came around, but the coach saw potential in me and that I can become a great player. The coach saw so much potential in me, that every week, I kept progressing in skill and fine tuning my mechanics. Halfway through the season, about 4 or 5 weeks after I made the team, my coach gave me the chance to play with the Varsity Golf team for a couple days. There are a variety of tricks the players perform during games it makes the games much more enjoyable to be watching. My favorite player to watch is Kobe Bryant. He makes basketball seem as a mere game for little kids. He is an all around athlete is still going strong at 30 years old. He is a big role model to many kids who enjoy playing this sport. Kobe can do anything he is a very versatile player and could get anywhere around the court in a blink of an eye. Bryant is the definition of all–around in my book. He knows how to play both sides of the game offense and defense. I look at Kobe Bryant as the ultimate weapon. • 8. Basketball : The Game Of Basketball The game of basketball started in December 1891. Basketball was founded by a Canadian born instructor named James Naismith at the Young Men's Christian Association training school in Springfield, Massachusetts. The YMCA developed rules for the game which were later used in high schools, colleges, and settlement houses. The game grew bigger and popular in a lot of areas. Particularly in urban areas, where games were sponsored by schools, social clubs, churches, and companies. Colleges sponsored tournaments to attract players to their school. The best players around the world would attend these tournaments and invitational meetings in hope to earn scholarships or enter semipro leagues around American cities. Not only did men play the game of basketball but women, particularly in the south, received similar opportunities to play basketball for sponsored teams. Throughout the 20 centaury, basketball was a primary sport in inner–city playgrounds and urban recreational communities. College basketball was the main form of organized basketball beginning in the 1930s. The American basketball league began in the 1920s. As professional as the ABL was, it could not compete with college basketball. However the American basketball league changed the college basketball world. One of the main places basketball was played was at the Madison Square Garden. The first ABL elite program was the Boston Celtics. In the 1920s they won as much as 90 percent of their games. • 9. Descriptive Essay About Basketball Running into the gym with my team, knowing it was my last middle school basketball game, but first championship game I felt elated and truly blessed. My knees quivered with anticipation after seeing all the bleachers filled with people. After realizing even the press and other media was in attendance I grasped the moment like a newly elected president at his inauguration. I am warming up doing basketball drills, when I began to look at the flags on the gym wall depicting the history of the basketball team. The years and dates of the last championship game, Historically a championship game had not been won since 2007 . The more I stared at the flags, the more it made me want to win this game and make history in this gym. As the crowd and cheerleaders start to chant, cheer and get loud, I started to feel more comfortable and rowdy more than I had ever felt in any other game that I've played. Waiting for the referee to blow the whistle for jumpall to start. I felt my fingertips tapping the side of my leg, which for some reason gives me a sign to myself that I am pumped up and ready to play! As the referee blew the whistle, it was game time! My teammate were on her tip toes already in motion to jump, she jumped and smacked the ball before the other opponent could even get a chance to jump! The ball came my way and I dribbled the ball three times, crossed doubled between my legs two times, I lingered up, did the Lebron James basketball shake before I took my shot and put up Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Narrative Essay On Basketball Research Paper It was just another ordinary day at my household. Yet at the back of my mind, I was tugging on a memory– something about it being Sunday. Finally, I realized it. There was basketball practice on Sundays. I was ecstatic, but I wanted reassurance for my excitement, so I texted my friend JP to confirm the time. "6:30," he replied. I was relieved, and as I plopped onto my bed, I received a notification for a text. I checked my phone, and it was JP again, with a short message. "But 6:00 if you want to grind [with a flexing emoji at the end]." Matter of fact, it just so happened due to my special circumstances, I did want to grind. I needed some more practice if I wanted a shot of making the team since I had only started taking basketball seriously Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Basketball though was not my first love when it came to playing sports. It has though become my true focus since junior high school. Coming from Canada everybody plays hockey. Its almost as if as soon as you learn to walk you learn how to skate. Whether it is at the recreation centre or at the shinny rink around the corner everyone plays. At this time it began to look like that I would just have a good high school career but also a chance to try and prove myself in university. My senior year proved to be my toughest year as I tried to decide where I wanted to continue with my dream of playing the sport I love. All of a sudden I had schools from western Canada all to the way to the Atlantic trying to get me to play at their school. During this year I received my greatest achievement yet when I was named a starter for the first ever adidas all Canadian all–star game. When I was younger I realized that the NBA was almost too high a bar to reach I decided that the NCAA would be a great achievement. Eventually that opportunity presented itself to me in the form of two schools. NAU and Montana St. expressed interest and I struggled to decide where I wanted to spend the next four or possibly five years of my life. All of the people that I had met while visiting each school were just so nice. I didn't want to disappoint any of them. He got to thinking and started combining ideas from other games to make the game of what it is known today as basketball. Naismith invented this game in 1891 (Faurschou). He decided to start making little notes of his ideas. He was going to use a slightly large and light ball. Since the game was made to play indoors the players would have no need to run with the ball. Also players couldn't hit or strike other players. After Naismith came up with the basic rules he decided what the goal of the game would be. The goals were first going to be placed low but Naismith decided that if the other team were defending it, it would be nearly impossible to make a goal. This is how the idea of the basketball hoop came about. He decided to place the goal over the player's heads. The goals would start as peach baskets but would later evolve into hoops (Padwe). The hoops would be made of iron and a braided cord netting to verify the ball was going through the hoop (Peterson).Naismith had his game ready but needed a way to start it. He thought of several different ways but wanted to eliminate roughness. He decided to take part of rugby when the ref throws the ball in between the players. Naismith said the ball would be thrown in an upward motion in between both of the centers for each team and this would be the start of the game. The game of basketball was now ready but just needed people to start it. The kids at the YMCA training center started Get more content on HelpWriting.net

However, like Darwin's theory of man, basketball has evolved into the most exciting exhibition of athletic ability. Basketball has seen many rule changes, because of the increasing ability of the players. Basketball is a melting pot, where black, white, and European people excel. This is a sport that is color–blind. This sport requires complete control over one's body and mind. Pure strength is required to fight through opposing teams picks, and to gain position for rebounds. Once I'm off the bus I observe that I'm limping badly and my knee is swollen to the size of an orange. A little voice in my head told me this wasn't the common mishap that happens during basketball. Basketball is a team sport so the amount of pressure to perform for your team was very nerve racking. Although no one can perform perfectly at all time who doesn't want to play as well as you can in every game. Although every time walking onto the court gave some type of emotion, I had never had a wave of emotion hit me like it did the first time I stepped on to Rocky's court. I was especially nervous but truly excited for the fact I was about to prove myself that I could continue my passion at the next level. I had met the team on my visit and I found out how great all of the girl were, but after I signed a new kind of anxiety set in. I was so nervous to fit in and be accepted by my new team. I was also so afraid to let the coaches down. When I got here and started practice I found out I was worried for nothing. I was accepted by my team and was not letting my performance anxiety get to me. I decided I was just going to play my game and not worry so much. From freshman year to the time I graduated I became a whole new person thanks to my teammates and all my experiences that I shared with them. I learned how to talk in both a one on one and group situation. Thanks to basketball I had developed the fundamental skills to communicate to friends and family. Being the point guard on the team I had to relay the message from the coach to the other teammates. So I learned how to communicate and be heard in a big group. Like when I saw something that I thought someone was doing wrong I had to speak up and let them know what they need to day. I then took those skills to my everyday real life situations.
