Discretization Of Tennis
As discussed in the introduction, we use RBF–LA (RBF learning automata) to learn human
strategies. Accordingly, we will first introduce the classify strategies, then explain court
discretization which is necessary for the tennis model. Finally, we will show how the episodes and
states features in the tennis task can be represented.
A. Classify Strategies
Tennis is a racquet sport that can be played either against a single opponent (singles) or between two
teams of two players (doubles). For simplicity, we will focus only on modeling singles tennis
matches.
At any point in a match, one of the players is designated to be the server, and the other is the
receiver. The players stand on opposite sides of the tennis court, rectangular area with a net stretched
across its width. The players alternate hitting the ball, until eventually, ... Show more content on

He should choose a position in the opponent's court to serve as a target position.
3) Playing Position Decision (PPD)
During the match when AI shoots the ball to the opponent court in between the ball shooting and
reaching to the opponent position, he owns enough time to have a proper positioning. Under this
situation, AI should choose a position which it could reach the ball after the opponent shot.
4) Playing Target Decision (PTD)
During the match, if AI reaches the ball which it comes to him, then he should choose a position as a
target position and as a result, shoot the ball to that specified target position.
The tennis court is a rectangular flat surface which is 78 feet (23.77 meters) long and its width is 27
feet (8.23 meters) for singles matches.
The Tennis court corresponds to the bouncing point of the ball on the opponent's court or AI
positioning while waiting for opponent's responds. Players do not usually target a particular point on
the court, but rather a small region. Therefore, we discretize the court into sixteen regions (see

The Informative Essay: The Sport Of Tennis
Off the walls Pulse quickening, feet shuffling, ball flying by in a flash while the racket makes
contact with a whack. As a tennis player, everyone knows these feelings. The sport of tennis remains
a challenge mentally and physically, pushing the boundaries while still remaining classy. Most
sports are all about power and glory, but tennis has always been unique: it requires finesse, and it
uses different in scoring and play. Tennis has the image of being a softer sport, yet it still has a
unique background of history and stories which makes it truly set apart from other sports. Still
tennis can be played by anyone and does not require chunks of time and money for equipment, as

You walk up to the ball and stare at it. You consult with your caddie. You kneel and line up the ball
with the hole, and then you contemplate some more. In tennis, the ball comes at you at more than
100 mph, and you either respond or you don't. There's no time for a meeting of minds, and yet
you're constantly trying to out–think your opponent, to guess where he thinks the ball is going and
then to hit it in the opposite direction" (Koch).
But tennis is also very versatile in the ways it can be played: tennis brings new challenges because
of the conditions that change so often. It is played in the heat of day or cold of winter, in a windy
day or even on different courts made of clay or grass (Edwards). Tennis players show something
most do not in other sports with on the spot thinking and agility, making tennis players physically
and mentally strong. The combination makes tennis the best type of sport, and it always stays
exciting even if it is in the park with friends on a summer day.
Tennis is arguably the most unique sport because of the scoring system, its history, and how it is
played. Coach Alex Slezak, who does tennis and athletic performance training,

Since I was a kid I had good interest for tennis. I would spend hours just sitting and watching tennis
games. By the time I was 8–years–old my dad bought a table tennis(ping pong table). He taught me
how to play and keep a score. At first it was hard to learn, but once I get a hang of it was one of the
best things I learned from my father. I still remember the first time I won a match between me and
my father it felt so good to beat him. If I remember right we played 3 set of games and he won the
1st set 6–1, I won the 2nd set 6–4, and the I won the 3rd set 6–4 again. I went to middle school in

I took his challenge and like all the students I played he was weak too. I played with him all
semester and he lost in every game. I asked him if there was a table tennis team here at John F.
Kennedy high school so I can join, but his answer was that we don't have table tennis team because
it wasn't that much of a popular sport. Sophomore year I found out that there was a tennis team in
John F. Kennedy but it wasn't table tennis. So I tried out for the Boys Varsity Tennis team and I was
bad at it, but the coche Mr. King who was also at the time my NSL Government teacher let me join
the team. I thought it would be easier because I already knew how to play table tennis but it was
totally different and harder. Within a week I start getting good at it and by the end of the season i fell
in love with tennis. I spent all my summer 2016 practicing tennis and I got so good at it. In this

Process Essay Tennis
tennis is a sport that you can play for your whole life. In this essay it will explain how to play tennis,
starting with the very basics: From how to pick out your first tennis racquet, to understanding the
objective of the game, to knowing the grip names, their purpose, and the best one for you; to
learning the basic tennis strokes, and the scoring. These skills will teach you how to be successful
and enjoy the game of tennis.
First, before you can start learning how to play you will need to choose a racquet. Depending on
whom the racquet is for and what style of tennis you want to play will determine your choice in a
racquet. If you a choosing racquet for a child, the age of the child will help guide you in which
racquet to choose. If the child is between the ages of 3 to 5 years old the recommended racquet size

A tennis match is three sets and the first person to win two out of the three sets wins. If you each
win one set, you play a deciding third set. A set is made up of six games. Also, if a person is up 6–5,
that person must win by two games. If the set is tied 6–6, the game goes to a tiebreaker. A game is
made up of four points: "love" (or zero), 15, 30,40, and then game point. You win points by hitting a
winner or by errors by your opponent or vice versa. Before serving, announce the score. Ex: 15–
love, 30–30, or 40–40(also known as deuce.). If you win are the server and win the point: say: "ad
in." If you are the returner and win the point say: "ad out." The next point won whether you are
leading as the server or returner wins the game. You have two chances to put your serve into the
service box, if your first serve misses. After each service game, you must switch from the advantage
side to the deuce side of the court. For every odd numbered game you and your opponent switch
sides on the court. Ex: after game one, three, and

A Brief Look at Playing Tennis
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Introduction
In affluent society, playing tennis is a sport which requires high endurance, patience and full
physical strength's activity. Besides, it also requires equipment which is the tennis racquet. In the
early century, most of the tennis racquets were made of laminated wood, with heads of around 65 in
sq. [1] At that time, most of the tennis players have faced a problem during playing the tennis as the
wooden racquets seem quite obsolete or perhaps even inadequate. In details, it is too far and too
slow, weak, or heavy for professional tennis players who increasingly measure from the length that
much higher about six feet. [1] Figure 1.1.1: Wooden tennis racquet
In the late 1960s, T2000 steel tennis racquets were produced in which featured a wire wound around
the frame to make string loops. [2] The steel tennis racquets were started to replace the wooden
tennis racquets in order to solve the heavy and weak problems that caused by wooden tennis
racquets as steel is stronger and lighter than wood. Although the steel tennis racquets is better than
the wood racquet, the tennis players still faced a problem in terms of swing strength. Figure 1.1.2:
Steel tennis racquet
When the tennis racquet technologies came in 1975, an aluminium racket was introduced. This
material was lighter than steel and allowed the construction of oversized tennis rackets. At that
moment, the players could hit with more spin on the ball with 100+ in sq head sizes.

The United States Tennis Association(USTA) was founded in 1881, but the Women's Tennis
Association was only started in 1973. Tennis is one of the main sports that has different playing
rules with men and women, men play best of five sets and women play best of three sets, meaning
that the first person to win six games with at least a difference of two will win that set. A match
consists of the person who wins the most games out of five for men and three for women. Women
were said to be weaker, by men, because at the first Wimbledon tournament a woman wearing the
extremely hot uniforms, that consisted of long multi–layered skirts, long sleeved blouses and
corsets, passed out during a match. Recently there has been talk about making the the women's
matches 5 sets instead of three as long as people are talking about and want it, it can always happen.
The oldest wimbledon match played was only available for males to compete. Although it didn't
take long for women to join in and that was in 1884. During this time a lot of people saw men as
being the stronger sex and more capable, but it only took about six years to add females into the
tennis community. While the game has come very far with equality, it's still not perfect. In 2014 a
Forbes article discusses the wage gap in professional tennis between male and female solely with
prize money earnings. Recently women's tennis has been broadcasted on television just as much as
men's

How The Rules Of Tennis
How to learn the rules of tennis. Tennis started out around 1000 A.D . The game aroused more
popularity around 1625 in England . The game has changed so much after 1625. It is completely
different today. The ball is bouncier, and the racquets have changed also. The rules of tennis can be
complicated to learn at first. There are three basic steps to the rules. Understanding the score, when
a ball is in or out, and the differences between singles and doubles. The score of tennis can be
difficult to remember, even for players that have played a long time. Every game has at least 4
points. A set has at least 6 games. The match has at least 2 sets. The player must win two sets to win
the match. The game starts out on the right side of the court. On every point, the serve changes sides
of the baseline. The point value of the first serve for the game starts out at love–love. The server's
score is always the first to be announced. The server has two tries every point to land the ball on the
other side of the net for the point to start the volley. If both serves fail to make it on the other side of
the court, it is called a double fault. That point would be given to the other player. Each game starts
out at 0–0. After that the points can change to 15–0, 15–15 or 30–0, 40–15 or 30–30, game or 40–
30, game or deuce, advantage server, advantage receiver, game or deuce. The game can continue in
deuce until either player wins two points in a row. In order to win the set 6 games need to

Personal Narrative: The Sport Of Tennis
For the past 3 or 4 years now, I have become pretty good at tennis for my age group. I started off by
learning from my grandfather, who is a tennis coach in Greenville Ohio. Tennis is a fun sport to
play, but its not that simple to learn. I would start off by taking lessons at a tennis club about once or
twice a week. They will start by putting you in level one until you have shown enough progress to
move up a level. The first thing you will have to learn, is your forehand, backhand, overhead, volley,
and your serve. The hardest one to learn is probably your overhead, because the ball is coming over
the top of you, and you need to look up and hit it before it hits you. Then you will have to learn
where to stand on the court. If you are serving

Play Tennis Research Paper
Playing tennis is a challenging sport that not everyone can play. It not only uses physical strength,
but it involves mental strength. You have to be able to push through whatever obstacles there are. In
order to play tennis, you have to be able to withstand the heat of the sun, losing, and negative people
around yelling at you to do better even if that is the bet you can do.
I played on teams in gymnastics, baseball, and soccer. Gymnastics really helped me with running.
Baseball was a great sport for me because it helped my tennis serve, then I played 2nd base and
short–stop. Soccer really helped with running and being able to change direction, I was trained as a
goal keeper, sweeper and full–back.
In 2010 I started taking tennis more serious. I played 5 days a week at my neighborhood tennis
courts. It was really hard at first, I'm not gonna lie, I hated running a four–court suicide and playing
a tennis match where the sun was blocking my view. But as I had more understanding of the game.
My coaches encouraged me to improve and as I progressed, my coaches spoke of my potential. I

The Argument Essay: The Game Of Tennis
The game of tennis has many aspects. The player has to be able to serve, return or rally, and lastly
win the point. Tennis is mainly just all in one's mind. The player has to be ready and always one step
ahead of his or her opponent. Tennis can be applied to an argument. The person arguing has to serve
or try and get across his or her opinion. Then return the favor by letting the other person get theirs
across. Lastly, the people arguing need to be able to find a winner, or find an alternative.
In tennis, the player serves the ball to the opponent. The goal is to have such a deep and solid shot
that the opponent can not hit it back. This is called an ace. Every person arguing wants to have an
"ace". In this case the argument would end very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are never any ties. The only "tie" there is, is deuce, but every deuce point comes to an end. In
parallel to an argument, usually only one person is the winner. This happens once someone realizes
they are wrong, or they have just given up arguing. Most of the time someone only gives up the
argument if they know that the other person will not stop until himself is declared the winner. These
are the people who are "always right". When arguing with someone always right, it is impossible to
win. They will argue with the other person even when they know they are wrong. If the people
arguing are not very stubborn, a winner can be determined. When both people can not come to an
agreement, an alternative will be made. This is the only fair way so both people can get their
satisfaction of winning the fight. Agreeing to disagree it is sometimes called.
Tennis is now applied to arguments. Someone can mentally play the game of tennis to get through
an argument. This way the argument can be fair and square. Once the serving, returning, and the
winning of the argument has been completed, the argument should be accomplished. There should
be a winner, a deuce, or an alternative should be worked

Tennis Class Tennis Analysis
Tennis class is an exciting part of my weekly agenda because tennis belongs to an elite class of
sports that I truly relish and enjoy. I go to classes on Saturday afternoons, sometimes the weather
cooperates other times not. I prefer a calm breeze cooling the sunlight–tainted skies, but this is not
always the weather during classes. On a day that appeared to bring nothing but clear skies, gray
clouds rolled over the horizon and we had to travel to tennis class under the cover of storm clouds.
A few minutes back, preparing to drive to the class, I packed my racket into a bag as well as a water
bottle. This peace was abruptly interrupted by an otherworldly thud from the heavens. I rushed to
window and frowned and the sight that greeted me, low–lying clouds as gray as dryer lint and the

our ears. When the van was reversed out of the garage, the distinct ring of raindrops on metal

street. The van vibrated on the jarring asphalt and splashed in the occasional puddle by the curb of
the road.
Our van halted to a stop once we reached the Naperville tennis club center. I came outside with an

Biomechanics Concepts and Principals of Tennis The behavior of biomechanics works upon many
different sports. The sport of tennis requires a lot of mix movement and equipment, and an
understanding of those aspects of sport science of the games. The concepts of biomechanics and
principals play a big role in the players' development from sport science. Biomechanics is a key area
in player development because all strokes have a fundamental mechanical understanding and sports.
There are seven principles that can apply to the dynamics movements in tennis. The actions of
stroking not only involve many techniques but the biomechanics of it also affects its movements. In
order to return the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We need to coordinate all these movements rapidly so that the ball is struck in the center of the
racket to produce the demanded spin, direction and speed for our return. There are multiple
principles from the biomechanics concepts apply to the technique of striking the ball with a spin
specifically. Principle 2: Maximum Effort helps players to hit a good return using spins. Tennis
players are required to use skills that enable them to go "all out" during competition. This principle
will allow them to produce a maximum force using their wrist joints when they perform the spinning
strokes technique. Secondly, the third principle: Maximum Velocity also enhances the outcome of
the stroke by performing certain skill (spin strokes) by using a high–velocity skill. The aim is to
have reached maximum velocity of movement at the exact moment of impact with the ball. Players
combine the velocity of pervious movements and transfer them into the final skill segment, so that
this implement is moving at a maximum velocity when the racket strikes. The principle of impulse
(principle 4) also implies with action of striking, such as players are always in their position when
the ball comes into the court. Tennis players tend to open up their

Tennis Racquet
There are three aspects to every tennis racquet. The grip, the frame, and the strings. Just like these
three parts make up a whole racquet, these three correspond to three major aspects of my life. The
grip is the base that supports the rest of the racquet and allows it to work properly, the frame is the
personality of the racquet and dictates how the racquet will behave, the strings are where all the
action happens on the racquet. Having a racquet with just a frame and strings would be unusable
without the handle at the bottom, just like I would not be the same person I am without my base
backing me up. When I say base, I am talking about my family and friends who support me. They
have been instrumental in my growth and maturation as I have grown up. My Mom has always been
a great listener and has helped been there with me through all my problems, both important and
insignificant. My Dad has given me the best pieces of advice I have gotten throughout my life and

all those skills. While reading this chapter, I learned that the term which combines all of those
elements is called "The stretch shortening cycle". This term describes the action when the muscle is
stretched, and it is immediately followed by shortening the same muscle. However, there are couple
of factors that are affecting the stretch shortening cycle such as: fiber type, gender, age, arm actions
and fatigue. This information will help me as being a tennis coach because I will be able to consider

Reflection Paper On Tennis
Essay Question #1
I have been playing tennis since I was 4 years old and it helped me to come to the United States to
purse a Bachelor's degree and be a student–athlete at a Division I team. I came here in Spring, 2014
and it was not easy at first for a few reasons. First of all, I came to the new country by myself and
had to adapt to the new lifestyle and culture, and even taking classes in English was something
different that I have experienced before. Secondly, because the tennis program has the season in the
spring semester and we had a tough practice and competition schedule, I had to work on and
improve my time management skills. Since the first semester I came to college, I decided to focus
on three different areas: sports, academics, and social life.
For first two years I was #4 and #5 on the team. However, I was putting a lot of effort during my
time here and I also practiced a lot and played many tournaments during summers, which gave me a
lot of experience. That helped me to play #1 in singles and doubles for the last two seasons and
achieve a 45–21 singles and 44–14 doubles record. During my four years here we managed to win
three A–10 conference titles. Because of my commitment to tennis, I have been able to represent my
country, Lithuania, in the Davis Cup competition in the summers of 2016 and 2017.

rules, boundaries and many other aspects make up the game of tennis. Over the next few pages, I
will do my best to explain the forehand and backhand stroke, the serve and volley, the rules of
tennis, and without a doubt the grandslam.
The forehand stroke is the most popular in tennis. Stand facing the net, knees slightly bent, weight
evenly distributed and forward on the balls of your feet. The racket is held in front of your body,
elbows in close and parallel to the ground. The racket is supported with your free hand. From the

Volleys hit in front of your body use very little effort and most of the time are winners. Prepare
quickly with a compact back–swing. Flex your body and knees to get down to the shot and stay
there through the stroke. Move the racquet head smoothly to lift the ball over the net. Let your
racquet continue naturally in the direction of the ball. The whole point of the volley is to move your
opponent from front to back court. In turn, you will have a better chance of placing the ball as far
away from your opponent as possible. There are a few basic rules to playing the game of tennis.
Though rules can change a little with singles and doubles match–ups, the rules are for the most part
fairly general. The Court shall be a rectangle 78 feet (23.77m.) long and 27 feet (8.23m.) wide.
When a combined doubles (see Rule 34) and singles Court with a doubles net is used for singles, the
net must be supported to a height of 3 feet 6 inches (1.07m.) by means of two posts, called
"singles sticks", which shall be not more than 3 inches (7.5cm.) square or 3 inches
(7.5cm.) in diameter. The centers of the singles sticks shall be 3 feet (.914m.) outside the singles
Court on each side. For the Doubles Game, the court shall be 36 feet (10.97m.) in width, i.e. 41/2
feet (1.37m.) wider on each side than the Court for the Singles Game, and those portions of the
singles side–lines which lie between the two service–lines shall be called the service side–lines. In

My Dream Of Tennis: My Life Of Tennis
At the age of four I had a dream that one day I would play tennis at place called Wimbledon. I
remember so clearly waking up that morning and going to my mom to ask her where Wimbledon
was. From a young age tennis was my most passionate sport. Tennis was to be the thing that would
challenge me far beyond anything I could ever have imagined because I learnt that "Sometimes you
have to surrender before you can win."
According to my first tennis teacher, Irene, I had great potential. At the age of eight my mom took
me to the Federation cup coach to see if I was good enough to join his elite squad of players. Soon
after I impressed the coach I started playing tournaments on the tennis circuit in the under twelve
category. My very first tournament taught me an important lesson. I lost all my matches because I
was so nervous that every time the ball would be served to me, I would run away from it. This
changed when I played the final play offs for position for 23rd and 24th place. That game was to be
the 1st of many matches that I would go on to win. This is the first time I learnt that I had to
surrender by losing many matches in order to become stronger to win this match. That very same
year I did not give up and so I won my very first tournament.

Tennis : My Passion In My Life Of Tennis
Tennis, an engaging interest I have had since middle school, is not something in which I have
always had a passion. Playing the sport was not a priority until I was infected with the mono virus in
the summer of fifth grade, causing me to miss basketball and football tryouts. Basketball, by far,
was my favorite sport up until then. However, due to the illness, I could not physically exert myself
whatsoever. Most of my days consisted of television and becoming very much out of shape.
Needless to say, I wasn't able to try out for either team over the summer, depressed, I almost gave up
on playing sports completely. Until spring came around, I engaged in countless hours of self–pity
while watching my friends succeed in their sports. Tennis was something for which I'd never given
consideration, as it just seemed a boring and monotonous sport for wealthy older men. I purchased a
racquet and joined friends on the court one day, and we rallied for countless hours. Something felt
natural, and I realized tennis was something I could develop a real interest in.
I tried out for the Brighton Middle School team in January 2012, and the journey began. Sixth–grade
tennis was exhilarating and I always had a great time. The team did well finishing third in the
district. I felt optimistic for the next season, however, that quickly changed when the coach stepped
down and no one took his place. Disbelief was rampant among the former players. It was just weeks
before the season started when a teacher from the elementary school stepped up to be the coach.
Runners–up in the district was definitely considered a successful season by players and parents
alike, followed by a championship win in the following season. High school tennis was a different
ballpark. I started the season out exceptionally well, yet began to slip up as we journeyed to
Memphis for much harder challenges, such as Houston and White Station. The team made it to
sectionals where we lost to Houston. However, my doubles opponent and I defeated the other
Brighton doubles team to advance to the regional tournament, which we won, and on to the state
championship we went. The state tournament was the best experience of my life, as I realized I
could succeed in things I had

You miss, but that's okay because all you're doing is playing a game called tennis. There are many
sports in the world. There is soccer, basketball, baseball, tennis, swimming, track, etc. Tennis may
not be as popular as the others such as soccer and cricket but tennis is a good sport to play. Tennis
has some unique rules to it, is great for the body, and is a very social sport. A large amount of people

Often you will have a thrill when rallying with someone. Many times if you are caught in a long
rally both players try their best to win. Both players will feel thrill as they eye the ball and swiftly
counter it to the opponent's side when they can. This thrill removes all outside thought and you
focus on the game. People feel thrilled when they have fun, and by having fun your body and mind
relaxes.
Tennis is a social game. It is also common so finding someone who has at least tried the sport is
pretty easy. There are many places that have a tennis court. Many subdivisions that have a clubhouse
have a tennis court. Many parks have tennis courts. A lot of schools have a tennis court, usually high
schools and colleges but some middle schools have a couple of courts. There are a lot of tennis clubs
where you can take classes, play casually, enlist in tournaments, etc. Often time you can go with a
friend and play together, however not everyone has friends that likes the game. In cases like this you
can join a local tennis tournament or club, most don't have an age requirement or a skill requirement
so if you're the best of the best or the worst in the world you can still have fun and enjoy the game.
There is also doubles tennis. In doubles tennis it's a two versus two system and unlike table tennis

Stereotypes Of Tennis
Tennis, the sport of people who are too "privileged" to play any other sport, those whose parents pay
thousands of dollars to play at fancy clubs, for the kids to only whine about very inane things. Know

huge it is! Also, the first thing you see in the store is a plethora of every–single–thing you would

the back right corner you will find the prized jewel. A tennis court and a huge array of racquets and

Mental Tennis Research Paper
Tennis matches frequently are a skirmish of technique and how hard a player can hit a ball. in spite
of the fact that system and ability are imperative the mental sturdiness of players regularly figures
out who will win when the players are of roughly equivalent ability. Mental strength is regularly the
deciding component since so couple of players can control themselves on the court, and this is since
there are no particular approaches to rehearse the mental tennis diversion. The primary concern that

player goes to each point not stressing over the last one he has a greatly improved shot of winning
than the player who prepares to play still disappointed. Many variables add to accomplishment on
the tennis court: ability, methodology, encounter and mental strength. Tennis matches are not just
chosen by ability; mental strength regularly decides the victor. Despite the fact that this is vital it

Personal Statement For Tennis Essay
PERSONAL STATEMENT
The sport of tennis has taught me several life lessons that have translated into other areas of my life.
Through the discipline of tennis I felt what it was like to love, be passionate, and be determined for
a specific interest. Tennis also opened my eyes to a world I had not seen as a player. That was the,
so–to–speak, "behind the curtain" scene. All of my hard work developing as a player not only came
from the will within, but also the aid of others such as tennis foundations, non–profit programs, and
many tennis mentors who held deeper purpose/meaning in the knowledge that they fortunately
shared with me. With the experiences (uphill and downhill) the sport has provided me, I am now

That specific moment was a blessing for me, all by chance as I had only planned on picking up a
friend's brothers from their lesson. Although I was instantly a natural, I still needed training. From
then on it was clear, I wanted to excel at tennis. I joined the Harlem Junior Tennis and Education
Program family where the culmination of my new passion and addiction flourished. There I would
watch the seasoned players and sit for hours on YouTube trying to emulate the pros and hone my
skills. I was the one who had the potential and just needed direction.
My mentor and coach Dante Brown was the first person to tell me that I needed to let the process
take its course. I had an unrealistic mindset of certainty. Practicing more hours did not always
guarantee a better serve or better groundstroke. However, I slowly realized that other factors needed
to be in place before that could actually happen. Things such as practicing proper technique,
learning about myself, my playing style, etc., were all things that would naturally happen on their
own if I had let them. I had now I learned the life lesson of process and goal

the players would hit the ball into the wall with their bare hands until eventually it got so painful
that they eventually incorporated leather gloves to take some of the pain away.

The Controversy Of Adapting In Tennis
Tennis is the sport normally thought of as being quiet and gentle, hitting a ball back and forth. Like
some sports, swimming for example, it has its spectators and everyone must keep quiet and not
distract the professional players from attempting to score or win. No one expects to go to a tennis
match to hear someone hit a ball and screech out as if they are in the worst pain of their lives over
and over again. This loud and annoying screech is also referred to as grunting and can be a
distracting interference that many believe should be banned altogether in the sport of tennis. The
topic of grunting in tennis started to become popular two decades ago when Monica Seles played
against Martina Navratilova in the semifinals at Wimbledon in 1992. During the match, ... Show

The timing of when they actually grunt helps them with the rhythm of how they're hitting and how
they're pacing things" (Jha). This may be true, but although it may help the timing for the grunter, it
throws off the timing of the other player also attempting to "pace things" and also messes up their
own "rhythm". If grunting does help one and hurt the other shouldn't that be considered cheating and
against the rules? By placing a ban on grunting neither player would have any type of advantage or
disadvantage and both players would have a fair chance of winning just like any sport should be.
Grunting in general is considered as an annoying and grotesque sound some tennis players make
when hitting the ball. It helps the grunter create a more powerful shot of up to 3.8% while also
helping them with timing shots, but this can also has negative repercussions on the other player. The
other player returning the shot is plagued with both visual and auditory interferences which can
greatly disturb their own judgment and timing. This type of sound should be limited and overall
banned so that both players may have an equal opportunity while playing

Muscular System In Tennis
Body Systems
Muscular system
Playing tennis involves more muscles than simply your arm and wrists. It involves a series of
complex movements that start with your feet and ends up swinging a tennis racket. It requires a
honed and well–trained muscular system to perform with the required power and speed needed. The
muscular system is one of the most important systems involved in the sport of tennis. The muscular
system is the tissue of fibres around your bones. This is a main part of tennis because specifically
these muscles will put force on the bones and pull them. This will result in the tennis player getting
more power behind there hit and also helps the play with moving around the court in a quicker pace.
Skeletal system
Despite the Muscular system playing a large role when playing tennis the skeletal system also play a
major role. This is because the skeletal system supports your body, hence it also give your body a
more expanded structure and also protects major organs like your lungs and heart. Furthermore, it
produces blood cells for the body to function and this also creates a place for the minerals to be

Essay On Tennis Courts
Types of Tennis Courts
1. Clay Courts
Clay courts are considered slow since a ball will bounce relatively higher and more slowly on a clay
court, thus making it much more difficult for a player to hit unreturnable shots. Clay courts are
unique in that the ball bounce leaves a mark on the surface, and this mark can be used to determine
whether or not the shot was in.
Type of Surface/Material
Clay courts are made from natural stone that is crushed into different levels. The finest level which

Tennis Serve Essay
A person's tennis serve wins or loses the match for him or her. With this in mind, a player wanting a
prodigious serve must follow a number of steps. All in all, the serve is a vital part of one's tennis
game that is built from the stance, toss, impact point, and follow through.
A stellar serve begins with the proper stance. Correct foot placement plays a major role in the
positioning of the serve. To begin, the player should stand behind the baseline on the right side of
the court when aiming for the left service box and the left side of the court when aiming for the right
service box. He or she should stand closer to the center mark for singles and farther away for
doubles. These different positions assist in coverage of the court and maintaining a solid serve. His
or her feet should be shoulder–width apart and spread with the left foot farther in front than the right
foot, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Players should aim to hit the ball in the center of the racket head because that is most commonly the
desired "sweet–spot". After his or her toss is in the proper spot in the air, he or she should jump to
make contact with the ball in the "sweet–spot". This approach will give any player an advantage on
court.
The simplest concept of the serve is the follow through. The follow through is simply continuing to
bring your body forward through the ball and out onto the court to maintain proper positioning of
the ball. Also, a player should continue to move his or her racket across the body until the palm of
the right hand is touching the left hip. A proper follow through ensures momentum and stabilizes the
body to be ready to begin the rally when the ball is returned from the opponent.
In review, the serve in tennis is very crucial, but it can also be broken down into simple and
achievable steps. The wanted results may not happen every time, but with these guidelines and
dedication, a player will be ready for the USTA Pro Circuit in no

Droplets of sweat began to run down my face as I approached the top of the line. I felt sick with

I just couldn't get a good grip. Before I knew it, Coach Bordelon had served a ball over the net and

Personal Narrative: The Game Of Tennis
The game of tennis is more than just hitting a ball over the net over and over until someone misses.
It is a mental battle between you and your opponent to see who can last the longest and be the most
mentally stable. This was the achilles heel of my tennis game for several years, I struggled mightily
with the mental part. I practiced daily with other players and even myself, it all added up to winning
as many matches as I played, but this wasn't the case. In order for me to be a better tennis player on
the court, I needed to get over myself mentally and stop becoming my own worst enemy.
There became a point in my tennis career, after I learned all the shots and techniques any player
needs, that I decided I could do anything with tennis. It took me several years for me to realize that
in order to achieve success in tennis or anything else in life, I couldn't do everything on my own. I
had many great mentors and coaches growing up that would do their best to help me but I just wasn't
listening to them. At my peak of frustration I had lost my first 3 matches junior year of high school

Tennis History
History of Tennis Tennis originated in northern France in the 11th century as a type of handball
played on indoor court. The introduction of a racquet in the 16th century changed the game. By the
mid 19th century, it was popularized as an indoor game on a lawn in England. Major W.C.
Wingfield popularized the game and devised a set of rules as well as a court in the shape of an
hourglass with a net 1.5 m high. Over the next few years, the game was modified as the court
became rectangular and the server was moved to the baseline. When the first Wimbledon
championship was held in 1887, the game was basically the same as it is played today. Soon after its
popularization in England, tennis began to spread and develop in Canada. J.F. Helmuth formed ...

The Game Of Tennis Tournament
Literature Review
Introduction
The game of tennis has a unique aspect, because it can be played on different surfaces such as: clay,
hard and grass. In order to be at the top of the rankings, tennis players need to perform well on all of
those surfaces. One of the reasons is because four main tennis tournaments, which are called Grand
Slams, are played on four different surfaces (Girard, Micallef, & Millet, 2010). Those tournaments
do provide the most ranking points and even has the biggest prize money budget. While playing on
different surfaces, tennis players are using various tactics since all kind of surfaces affect each
player differently. Research by Johnson and McHugh (2006) concluded that the serve is one of the
most used strokes during service games, and serve consisted 45% of all strokes in French Open and
60% in Wimbledon. However, to my knowledge there is no research done how service efficiency
differs on certain surfaces during a tennis match. Studies in the past has examined what factors
influences service efficiency and this type of research would help tennis players to be aware of how
their service performance differs during a tennis match.
Different types of tennis surface effects
In one of the research studies, which examined the effects of different surfaces, and was written by
Tudor, Zečić, and Matković (2014), mainly focused on how tennis players change their tactics while
competing in the most important tennis tournaments called Grand Slams. These

The server should hold the racket in his or her right hand, holding the right arm straight toward the
ground. The racket hand should point in the direction of the net. The server should hold the ball in
his or her left hand, touching the ball to the racket face.
The actual serve motion requires timing and speed. The server should toss the ball straight up into
the air by fully extending his or her left arm. He or she should leave the left arm fully extended to
help sight the ball as it ascends. While the ball is in the air, the server should rotate the racket head
so that it points away from the net, and then bring it straight up so that the frame almost touches the
right shoulder blade. Meanwhile, the server should shift his or her weight to the right leg. Then, as
the ball reaches the height of its ascent, the server should jump up while fully extending his or her
right arm toward the ball and slightly twisting his or her right wrist to bring the racket face into
contact with the ball. Then he or she should continue the forward motion of the racket by following
through the stroke, bringing the racket across the body so that it points toward the ground at the

Discretization Of Tennis

  • 1. Discretization Of Tennis As discussed in the introduction, we use RBF–LA (RBF learning automata) to learn human strategies. Accordingly, we will first introduce the classify strategies, then explain court discretization which is necessary for the tennis model. Finally, we will show how the episodes and states features in the tennis task can be represented. A. Classify Strategies Tennis is a racquet sport that can be played either against a single opponent (singles) or between two teams of two players (doubles). For simplicity, we will focus only on modeling singles tennis matches. At any point in a match, one of the players is designated to be the server, and the other is the receiver. The players stand on opposite sides of the tennis court, rectangular area with a net stretched across its width. The players alternate hitting the ball, until eventually, ... He should choose a position in the opponent's court to serve as a target position. 3) Playing Position Decision (PPD) During the match when AI shoots the ball to the opponent court in between the ball shooting and reaching to the opponent position, he owns enough time to have a proper positioning. Under this situation, AI should choose a position which it could reach the ball after the opponent shot. 4) Playing Target Decision (PTD) During the match, if AI reaches the ball which it comes to him, then he should choose a position as a target position and as a result, shoot the ball to that specified target position. The tennis court is a rectangular flat surface which is 78 feet (23.77 meters) long and its width is 27 feet (8.23 meters) for singles matches. The Tennis court corresponds to the bouncing point of the ball on the opponent's court or AI positioning while waiting for opponent's responds. Players do not usually target a particular point on the court, but rather a small region. Therefore, we discretize the court into sixteen regions (see ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Informative Essay: The Sport Of Tennis Off the walls Pulse quickening, feet shuffling, ball flying by in a flash while the racket makes contact with a whack. As a tennis player, everyone knows these feelings. The sport of tennis remains a challenge mentally and physically, pushing the boundaries while still remaining classy. Most sports are all about power and glory, but tennis has always been unique: it requires finesse, and it uses different in scoring and play. Tennis has the image of being a softer sport, yet it still has a unique background of history and stories which makes it truly set apart from other sports. Still tennis can be played by anyone and does not require chunks of time and money for equipment, as Heiner Gillmeister ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You walk up to the ball and stare at it. You consult with your caddie. You kneel and line up the ball with the hole, and then you contemplate some more. In tennis, the ball comes at you at more than 100 mph, and you either respond or you don't. There's no time for a meeting of minds, and yet you're constantly trying to out–think your opponent, to guess where he thinks the ball is going and then to hit it in the opposite direction" (Koch). But tennis is also very versatile in the ways it can be played: tennis brings new challenges because of the conditions that change so often. It is played in the heat of day or cold of winter, in a windy day or even on different courts made of clay or grass (Edwards). Tennis players show something most do not in other sports with on the spot thinking and agility, making tennis players physically and mentally strong. The combination makes tennis the best type of sport, and it always stays exciting even if it is in the park with friends on a summer day. Tennis is arguably the most unique sport because of the scoring system, its history, and how it is played. Coach Alex Slezak, who does tennis and athletic performance training, ... • 5. Notes On Mathematics And Tennis Mathematics and Tennis By: Musse Y. Course: IB Math SL Teacher: Dr. Ley Since I was a kid I had good interest for tennis. I would spend hours just sitting and watching tennis games. By the time I was 8–years–old my dad bought a table tennis(ping pong table). He taught me how to play and keep a score. At first it was hard to learn, but once I get a hang of it was one of the best things I learned from my father. I still remember the first time I won a match between me and my father it felt so good to beat him. If I remember right we played 3 set of games and he won the 1st set 6–1, I won the 2nd set 6–4, and the I won the 3rd set 6–4 again. I went to middle school in my country Ethiopia and they had a table ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I took his challenge and like all the students I played he was weak too. I played with him all semester and he lost in every game. I asked him if there was a table tennis team here at John F. Kennedy high school so I can join, but his answer was that we don't have table tennis team because it wasn't that much of a popular sport. Sophomore year I found out that there was a tennis team in John F. Kennedy but it wasn't table tennis. So I tried out for the Boys Varsity Tennis team and I was bad at it, but the coche Mr. King who was also at the time my NSL Government teacher let me join the team. I thought it would be easier because I already knew how to play table tennis but it was totally different and harder. Within a week I start getting good at it and by the end of the season i fell in love with tennis. I spent all my summer 2016 practicing tennis and I got so good at it. In this Mathematics Internal Assessment I will be exploring how is played by adding all the basics mechanical principles that have effect on the tennis ball and mechanical principles of any objects that are in spinning motion. Math IA Proposal The most fun part of tennis is the rally it's when two opponents hit the tennis ball back and forth by using the tennis racket until one of the players make a mistake. • 7. Process Essay Tennis tennis is a sport that you can play for your whole life. In this essay it will explain how to play tennis, starting with the very basics: From how to pick out your first tennis racquet, to understanding the objective of the game, to knowing the grip names, their purpose, and the best one for you; to learning the basic tennis strokes, and the scoring. A tennis match is three sets and the first person to win two out of the three sets wins. If you each win one set, you play a deciding third set. A set is made up of six games. Also, if a person is up 6–5, that person must win by two games. If the set is tied 6–6, the game goes to a tiebreaker. A game is made up of four points: "love" (or zero), 15, 30,40, and then game point. You win points by hitting a winner or by errors by your opponent or vice versa. Before serving, announce the score. Ex: 15– love, 30–30, or 40–40(also known as deuce.). If you win are the server and win the point: say: "ad in." If you are the returner and win the point say: "ad out." The next point won whether you are leading as the server or returner wins the game. You have two chances to put your serve into the service box, if your first serve misses. After each service game, you must switch from the advantage side to the deuce side of the court. For every odd numbered game you and your opponent switch sides on the court. • 9. A Brief Look at Playing Tennis CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Introduction In affluent society, playing tennis is a sport which requires high endurance, patience and full physical strength's activity. Besides, it also requires equipment which is the tennis racquet. In the early century, most of the tennis racquets were made of laminated wood, with heads of around 65 in sq. [1] At that time, most of the tennis players have faced a problem during playing the tennis as the wooden racquets seem quite obsolete or perhaps even inadequate. In details, it is too far and too slow, weak, or heavy for professional tennis players who increasingly measure from the length that much higher about six feet. [1] Figure 1.1.1: Wooden tennis racquet In the late 1960s, T2000 steel tennis racquets were produced in which featured a wire wound around the frame to make string loops. [2] The steel tennis racquets were started to replace the wooden tennis racquets in order to solve the heavy and weak problems that caused by wooden tennis racquets as steel is stronger and lighter than wood. Although the steel tennis racquets is better than the wood racquet, the tennis players still faced a problem in terms of swing strength. Figure 1.1.2: Steel tennis racquet When the tennis racquet technologies came in 1975, an aluminium racket was introduced. This material was lighter than steel and allowed the construction of oversized tennis rackets. At that moment, the players could hit with more spin on the ball with 100+ in sq head sizes. ... The United States Tennis Association(USTA) was founded in 1881, but the Women's Tennis Association was only started in 1973. Tennis is one of the main sports that has different playing rules with men and women, men play best of five sets and women play best of three sets, meaning that the first person to win six games with at least a difference of two will win that set. A match consists of the person who wins the most games out of five for men and three for women. Women were said to be weaker, by men, because at the first Wimbledon tournament a woman wearing the extremely hot uniforms, that consisted of long multi–layered skirts, long sleeved blouses and corsets, passed out during a match. Recently there has been talk about making the the women's matches 5 sets instead of three as long as people are talking about and want it, it can always happen. The oldest wimbledon match played was only available for males to compete. Although it didn't take long for women to join in and that was in 1884. During this time a lot of people saw men as being the stronger sex and more capable, but it only took about six years to add females into the tennis community. While the game has come very far with equality, it's still not perfect. In 2014 a Forbes article discusses the wage gap in professional tennis between male and female solely with prize money earnings. Recently women's tennis has been broadcasted on television just as much as men's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. How The Rules Of Tennis How to learn the rules of tennis. Tennis started out around 1000 A.D . The game aroused more popularity around 1625 in England . The game has changed so much after 1625. It is completely different today. The ball is bouncier, and the racquets have changed also. The rules of tennis can be complicated to learn at first. There are three basic steps to the rules. Understanding the score, when a ball is in or out, and the differences between singles and doubles. The score of tennis can be difficult to remember, even for players that have played a long time. Every game has at least 4 points. A set has at least 6 games. The match has at least 2 sets. The player must win two sets to win the match. The game starts out on the right side of the court. On every point, the serve changes sides of the baseline. The point value of the first serve for the game starts out at love–love. The server's score is always the first to be announced. The server has two tries every point to land the ball on the other side of the net for the point to start the volley. If both serves fail to make it on the other side of the court, it is called a double fault. That point would be given to the other player. Each game starts out at 0–0. After that the points can change to 15–0, 15–15 or 30–0, 40–15 or 30–30, game or 40– 30, game or deuce, advantage server, advantage receiver, game or deuce. The game can continue in deuce until either player wins two points in a row. In order to win the set 6 games need to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Personal Narrative: The Sport Of Tennis For the past 3 or 4 years now, I have become pretty good at tennis for my age group. I started off by learning from my grandfather, who is a tennis coach in Greenville Ohio. Tennis is a fun sport to play, but its not that simple to learn. I would start off by taking lessons at a tennis club about once or twice a week. They will start by putting you in level one until you have shown enough progress to move up a level. The first thing you will have to learn, is your forehand, backhand, overhead, volley, and your serve. The hardest one to learn is probably your overhead, because the ball is coming over the top of you, and you need to look up and hit it before it hits you. Then you will have to learn where to stand on the court. If you are serving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Play Tennis Research Paper Playing tennis is a challenging sport that not everyone can play. It not only uses physical strength, but it involves mental strength. You have to be able to push through whatever obstacles there are. In order to play tennis, you have to be able to withstand the heat of the sun, losing, and negative people around yelling at you to do better even if that is the bet you can do. I played on teams in gymnastics, baseball, and soccer. Gymnastics really helped me with running. Baseball was a great sport for me because it helped my tennis serve, then I played 2nd base and short–stop. • 19. The Argument Essay: The Game Of Tennis The game of tennis has many aspects. The player has to be able to serve, return or rally, and lastly win the point. Tennis is mainly just all in one's mind. The player has to be ready and always one step ahead of his or her opponent. Tennis can be applied to an argument. The person arguing has to serve or try and get across his or her opinion. Then return the favor by letting the other person get theirs across. Lastly, the people arguing need to be able to find a winner, or find an alternative. In tennis, the player serves the ball to the opponent. The goal is to have such a deep and solid shot that the opponent can not hit it back. This is called an ace. Every person arguing wants to have an "ace". In this case the argument would end very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are never any ties. The only "tie" there is, is deuce, but every deuce point comes to an end. In parallel to an argument, usually only one person is the winner. This happens once someone realizes they are wrong, or they have just given up arguing. Most of the time someone only gives up the argument if they know that the other person will not stop until himself is declared the winner. These are the people who are "always right". When arguing with someone always right, it is impossible to win. They will argue with the other person even when they know they are wrong. If the people arguing are not very stubborn, a winner can be determined. When both people can not come to an agreement, an alternative will be made. This is the only fair way so both people can get their satisfaction of winning the fight. Agreeing to disagree it is sometimes called. Tennis is now applied to arguments. Someone can mentally play the game of tennis to get through an argument. This way the argument can be fair and square. Once the serving, returning, and the winning of the argument has been completed, the argument should be accomplished. There should be a winner, a deuce, or an alternative should be worked ... I go to classes on Saturday afternoons, sometimes the weather cooperates other times not. I prefer a calm breeze cooling the sunlight–tainted skies, but this is not always the weather during classes. On a day that appeared to bring nothing but clear skies, gray clouds rolled over the horizon and we had to travel to tennis class under the cover of storm clouds. A few minutes back, preparing to drive to the class, I packed my racket into a bag as well as a water bottle. This peace was abruptly interrupted by an otherworldly thud from the heavens. I rushed to window and frowned and the sight that greeted me, low–lying clouds as gray as dryer lint and the unique drum of a torrent of rain battering the ... The van vibrated on the jarring asphalt and splashed in the occasional puddle by the curb of the road. Our van halted to a stop once we reached the Naperville tennis club center. I came outside with an umbrella and looked back at the van to say bye to my mom when I noticed how much the vehicle gleamed when coated in water like a gold coin under the light of the morning sun. I entered the NTC building, a drab place covered in a wood and stone façade. While I was waiting for the chirping bell to call me into class, my eardrums picked up a faint sound, which I quickly recognized as the constant patter of rain. The concepts of biomechanics and principals play a big role in the players' development from sport science. We need to coordinate all these movements rapidly so that the ball is struck in the center of the racket to produce the demanded spin, direction and speed for our return. There are multiple principles from the biomechanics concepts apply to the technique of striking the ball with a spin specifically. Principle 2: Maximum Effort helps players to hit a good return using spins. Tennis players are required to use skills that enable them to go "all out" during competition. This principle will allow them to produce a maximum force using their wrist joints when they perform the spinning strokes technique. Secondly, the third principle: Maximum Velocity also enhances the outcome of the stroke by performing certain skill (spin strokes) by using a high–velocity skill. The aim is to have reached maximum velocity of movement at the exact moment of impact with the ball. Players combine the velocity of pervious movements and transfer them into the final skill segment, so that this implement is moving at a maximum velocity when the racket strikes. • 29. Reflection Paper On Tennis Essay Question #1 I have been playing tennis since I was 4 years old and it helped me to come to the United States to purse a Bachelor's degree and be a student–athlete at a Division I team. I came here in Spring, 2014 and it was not easy at first for a few reasons. First of all, I came to the new country by myself and had to adapt to the new lifestyle and culture, and even taking classes in English was something different that I have experienced before. Secondly, because the tennis program has the season in the spring semester and we had a tough practice and competition schedule, I had to work on and improve my time management skills. Since the first semester I came to college, I decided to focus on three different areas: sports, academics, and social life. For first two years I was #4 and #5 on the team. However, I was putting a lot of effort during my time here and I also practiced a lot and played many tournaments during summers, which gave me a lot of experience. That helped me to play #1 in singles and doubles for the last two seasons and achieve a 45–21 singles and 44–14 doubles record. During my four years here we managed to win three A–10 conference titles. Because of my commitment to tennis, I have been able to represent my country, Lithuania, in the Davis Cup competition in the summers of 2016 and 2017. Over the next few pages, I will do my best to explain the forehand and backhand stroke, the serve and volley, the rules of tennis, and without a doubt the grandslam. The forehand stroke is the most popular in tennis. Stand facing the net, knees slightly bent, weight evenly distributed and forward on the balls of your feet. Let your racquet continue naturally in the direction of the ball. The whole point of the volley is to move your opponent from front to back court. In turn, you will have a better chance of placing the ball as far away from your opponent as possible. There are a few basic rules to playing the game of tennis. Though rules can change a little with singles and doubles match–ups, the rules are for the most part fairly general. The Court shall be a rectangle 78 feet (23.77m.) long and 27 feet (8.23m.) wide. The centers of the singles sticks shall be 3 feet (.914m.) outside the singles Court on each side. For the Doubles Game, the court shall be 36 feet (10.97m.) in width, i.e. 41/2 feet (1.37m.) wider on each side than the Court for the Singles Game, and those portions of the singles side–lines which lie between the two service–lines shall be called the service side–lines. I remember so clearly waking up that morning and going to my mom to ask her where Wimbledon was. From a young age tennis was my most passionate sport. Tennis was to be the thing that would challenge me far beyond anything I could ever have imagined because I learnt that "Sometimes you have to surrender before you can win." According to my first tennis teacher, Irene, I had great potential. At the age of eight my mom took me to the Federation cup coach to see if I was good enough to join his elite squad of players. Soon after I impressed the coach I started playing tournaments on the tennis circuit in the under twelve category. My very first tournament taught me an important lesson. I lost all my matches because I was so nervous that every time the ball would be served to me, I would run away from it. This changed when I played the final play offs for position for 23rd and 24th place. That game was to be the 1st of many matches that I would go on to win. This is the first time I learnt that I had to surrender by losing many matches in order to become stronger to win this match. • 35. Tennis : My Passion In My Life Of Tennis Tennis, an engaging interest I have had since middle school, is not something in which I have always had a passion. Playing the sport was not a priority until I was infected with the mono virus in the summer of fifth grade, causing me to miss basketball and football tryouts. Basketball, by far, was my favorite sport up until then. However, due to the illness, I could not physically exert myself whatsoever. Most of my days consisted of television and becoming very much out of shape. Needless to say, I wasn't able to try out for either team over the summer, depressed, I almost gave up on playing sports completely. Until spring came around, I engaged in countless hours of self–pity while watching my friends succeed in their sports. Tennis was something for which I'd never given consideration, as it just seemed a boring and monotonous sport for wealthy older men. I purchased a racquet and joined friends on the court one day, and we rallied for countless hours. Something felt natural, and I realized tennis was something I could develop a real interest in. I tried out for the Brighton Middle School team in January 2012, and the journey began. Sixth–grade tennis was exhilarating and I always had a great time. The team did well finishing third in the district. I felt optimistic for the next season, however, that quickly changed when the coach stepped down and no one took his place. Disbelief was rampant among the former players. It was just weeks before the season started when a teacher from the elementary school stepped up to be the coach. Runners–up in the district was definitely considered a successful season by players and parents alike, followed by a championship win in the following season. High school tennis was a different ballpark. I started the season out exceptionally well, yet began to slip up as we journeyed to Memphis for much harder challenges, such as Houston and White Station. The team made it to sectionals where we lost to Houston. However, my doubles opponent and I defeated the other Brighton doubles team to advance to the regional tournament, which we won, and on to the state championship we went. This loud and annoying screech is also referred to as grunting and can be a distracting interference that many believe should be banned altogether in the sport of tennis. • 55. Narrative Essay On Tennis As my sophomore year was approaching the spring semester, tennis season started. I had never really played tennis before, but I figured it could be a fun way to stay active during my off season. I began going to open court and practicing with my friends on the weekend. I began to improve and when try outs rolled around, I was astonished to find I had made the varsity team. I worked hard at practice, which went from two to three times a week for open court to practice or games everyday. I worked hard and by the time our first game was scheduled I was placed to play third doubles with my friend. We were fairly successful, she had played for longer than I had and helped as I learned the ropes. As the season progressed, I was moved to second doubles ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 57. Tennis Serve Essay A person's tennis serve wins or loses the match for him or her. With this in mind, a player wanting a prodigious serve must follow a number of steps. All in all, the serve is a vital part of one's tennis game that is built from the stance, toss, impact point, and follow through. A stellar serve begins with the proper stance. Correct foot placement plays a major role in the positioning of the serve. To begin, the player should stand behind the baseline on the right side of the court when aiming for the left service box and the left side of the court when aiming for the right service box. He or she should stand closer to the center mark for singles and farther away for doubles. These different positions assist in coverage of the court and maintaining a solid serve. His or her feet should be shoulder–width apart and spread with the left foot farther in front than the right foot, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Players should aim to hit the ball in the center of the racket head because that is most commonly the desired "sweet–spot". After his or her toss is in the proper spot in the air, he or she should jump to make contact with the ball in the "sweet–spot". This approach will give any player an advantage on court. The simplest concept of the serve is the follow through. The follow through is simply continuing to bring your body forward through the ball and out onto the court to maintain proper positioning of the ball. Also, a player should continue to move his or her racket across the body until the palm of the right hand is touching the left hip. A proper follow through ensures momentum and stabilizes the body to be ready to begin the rally when the ball is returned from the opponent. In review, the serve in tennis is very crucial, but it can also be broken down into simple and achievable steps. The wanted results may not happen every time, but with these guidelines and dedication, a player will be ready for the USTA Pro Circuit in no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 59. Personal Essay On Tennis I chose this particular memoir because tennis has become a major part of me. I started to play tennis when I was a freshman. Still remember the feeling of entering a tennis court through the revolving gate, a feeling of trying something new. When I first play, my coach always told me that tennis is such a mental game. To be honest, I wasn't that good when I first started. I have lack of solid swings, there's time where I'm not even fast enough to hit the ball back, and I twist my ankles quite often. Then I realize that in tennis, I would have to be controlled, consistent, and know where to place myself on the court. These three concepts that I learned instantly improved my skills in tennis. Speaking of how this experience shaped me, I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 61. Descriptive Essay On Tennis Droplets of sweat began to run down my face as I approached the top of the line. I felt sick with apprehension, the closest I have ever been to playing tennis was Wii sports. As a freshman, I was required to play tennis during my PE class. I stood next to my best friend, Nyla, who was barely breaking a sweat. She was good at nearly everything so I knew she would do well. Soon it was my turn to return the ball over the net, I twirled the racquet back and forth between my sweaty hands but I just couldn't get a good grip. Before I knew it, Coach Bordelon had served a ball over the net and at a warped speed it came hurdling towards me. My immediate instinct was to swing the racket as hard as I could. "Remember this is tennis not softball!" Coach yelled in a concerned voice, I sulkily walked off the court. For the rest of class, Coach desperately tried to find easier ways for me to gently tap the ball over the net. Even though I had to have been one of the worst in the class, I did not want to give up just yet. At the very end of class, Coach announced how tennis tryouts were approaching and that the team could use a few new members. All my other friends were involved so I thought why not try out. Even though I was not the best at tennis in the beginning, I learned that everyone is a beginner at something in life. It was finally the day of tryouts, which took place over the course of two days. On day one we will do drills and condition. Then on day two is when we will be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 63. Tennis Lessons Learned There is many lessons to learn in the game of tennis, some of which are small and others are big. I have learned plenty of lessons throughout my tennis life, and have much more to grasp and understand. Through all the lessons I have learned one sticks out to me. That lesson was that character matters. This to me is such a big part of the game of tennis. Without good character, whether it's you or your opponent, the game just becomes less fun. I started out playing tennis as a little seven year old girl not knowing how to even hold a racquet at Mcadams Tennis Park, but looking back at that time I remember always seeing smiles. One of my tennis coaches Alex Lee was so helpful he taught me how to first hit a ball, but other than tennis technic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. Personal Narrative: The Game Of Tennis The game of tennis is more than just hitting a ball over the net over and over until someone misses. It is a mental battle between you and your opponent to see who can last the longest and be the most mentally stable. This was the achilles heel of my tennis game for several years, I struggled mightily with the mental part. I practiced daily with other players and even myself, it all added up to winning as many matches as I played, but this wasn't the case. In order for me to be a better tennis player on the court, I needed to get over myself mentally and stop becoming my own worst enemy. There became a point in my tennis career, after I learned all the shots and techniques any player needs, that I decided I could do anything with tennis. It took me several years for me to realize that in order to achieve success in tennis or anything else in life, I couldn't do everything on my own. I had many great mentors and coaches growing up that would do their best to help me but I just wasn't listening to them. At my peak of frustration I had lost my first 3 matches junior year of high school tennis, playing number 2. I was ready to quit, throw all my racquets and shoes away but I decided to listen to my school tennis coach and give it one last shot. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He didn't have any advice on my mechanics or footwork when I thought they were the problem. The problem all along was in my head– I was panicking, not trusting my skills, and downgrading myself in matches to the point of no return. Coach Barber convinced me that it wasn't anything that I was doing wrong physically, it was the beast inside my head that was holding me back. Hearing this constructive criticism was really tough to handle as the team captain in front of my teammates. • 67. Descriptive Essay Tennis "Ad in" yelled cole as he was getting ready to serve. The score was 5–4 we were up one set of the two kids from Wheeler. The game had been a very close match so far. The first two games going 6–4 and 4–6. The team that won this set would win the match. It was match point. We needed one more point to win the match. Cole then loaded up to serve the ball. The serve then came whizzing past my head. The kid from wheeler had a very good forehand and cole had served right to it. The kid from wheeler then returned the serve cross court back to Cole. Cole then placed a very nice lob into the back left corner of the court. This corner was also a forehand shot for the kid from wheeler. The kid from wheeler was trying extremely hard to cross all the way back over to the corner to get the ball that Cole had placed so tremendously. The kid had gotten to the ball just in time before it took its second bounce. He then weakly tried to return a lob back to Cole. Little did he know it was too short. He had hit the ball right at me at the net. The ball floated very slowly through the air. I then loaded up and got ready to hit an overhead shot. At the end of summer I had decided to try tennis for the first time. I had decided not to play soccer. I had played soccer since I was like 3. My mom had said many times "Maybe you should try out tennis because you are not playing soccer?". I knew that I liked tennis but I had never really played it before. • 69. Tennis History History of Tennis Tennis originated in northern France in the 11th century as a type of handball played on indoor court. The introduction of a racquet in the 16th century changed the game. By the mid 19th century, it was popularized as an indoor game on a lawn in England. Major W.C. Wingfield popularized the game and devised a set of rules as well as a court in the shape of an hourglass with a net 1.5 m high. Over the next few years, the game was modified as the court became rectangular and the server was moved to the baseline. When the first Wimbledon championship was held in 1887, the game was basically the same as it is played today. Soon after its popularization in England, tennis began to spread and develop in Canada. Tennis, in particular, tennis competition, has shaped me in many ways. It has taught me: independence, acceptance, perseverance, strategic thinking and discipline on and off courts. Unlike professional tennis, there is no coaching and barely any cheering from the bleacher in junior tournament, Each time I walk on the court, I know that how I play determines the outcome of the match and, unlike team sports, I will only walk off the court when the match is finished. • 75. The Game Of Tennis Tournament Literature Review Introduction The game of tennis has a unique aspect, because it can be played on different surfaces such as: clay, hard and grass. In order to be at the top of the rankings, tennis players need to perform well on all of those surfaces. One of the reasons is because four main tennis tournaments, which are called Grand Slams, are played on four different surfaces (Girard, Micallef, & Millet, 2010). Those tournaments do provide the most ranking points and even has the biggest prize money budget. While playing on different surfaces, tennis players are using various tactics since all kind of surfaces affect each player differently. Research by Johnson and McHugh (2006) concluded that the serve is one of the most used strokes during service games, and serve consisted 45% of all strokes in French Open and 60% in Wimbledon. However, to my knowledge there is no research done how service efficiency differs on certain surfaces during a tennis match. Studies in the past has examined what factors influences service efficiency and this type of research would help tennis players to be aware of how their service performance differs during a tennis match. Different types of tennis surface effects In one of the research studies, which examined the effects of different surfaces, and was written by Tudor, Zečić, and Matković (2014), mainly focused on how tennis players change their tactics while competing in the most important tennis tournaments called Grand Slams. The racket hand should point in the direction of the net. The server should hold the ball in his or her left hand, touching the ball to the racket face. The actual serve motion requires timing and speed. The server should toss the ball straight up into the air by fully extending his or her left arm. He or she should leave the left arm fully extended to help sight the ball as it ascends. While the ball is in the air, the server should rotate the racket head so that it points away from the net, and then bring it straight up so that the frame almost touches the right shoulder blade. Meanwhile, the server should shift his or her weight to the right leg. Then, as the ball reaches the height of its ascent, the server should jump up while fully extending his or her right arm toward the ball and slightly twisting his or her right wrist to bring the racket face into contact with the ball. Then he or she should continue the forward motion of the racket by following through the stroke, bringing the racket across the body so that it points toward the ground at the server's left side.
