After completing the Case assignment for Module 1, I was immediately interested in seeking other forms of work that was completed by
Michelangelo. I scanned over several paintings and architectural drawings that were all magnificent however, nothing compared to his sculptures. I
was drawn back to several of his sculptures and finally decided to do an analysis on the Pieta.
Michelangelo found himself settled in Rome from 1495–1501 after leaving Florence and his time with the Medici. While in Rome, he was
commissioned by a French cardinal to complete a sculpture for his own funeral. It was to ensure that he would be remembered long after his death

Knowing that this piece was going to depict Jesus being held by his mother after his crucifixion, I expected to it to be a good piece of art. Good
would definitely be an understatement. The texture he created in the folds of the cloth that the Virgin Mary was wearing down to the visual hair

Created in 1489 this masterpiece is made out of pure marble. This sculpture is located in the Vatican City. At first glance this sculpture looks like
child dead in a mother's arms, which is correct but there is more too it. The sculpture represents the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Its shows his mother
Mary holding him and he lays there dead. A very little detail that usually goes unnoticed is that Mary is not touching her son directly, but a cloth is

Michelangelo has surely made his mark on the world. He worked delicately with precision to craft sculptures that looked like it could come to life.

Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, his full name, was born March 6, 1475, in Caprese. His family where small–scale bankers and his father
took a government position in the town where Michelangelo was born. His family eventually returned to Florence where Michelangelo started
grammar school. Apparently, he was unimpressed with the academics he was being taught and preferred becoming an artist instead. After convincing

Taking a closer look, we can observe that on Christ's hands and feet there are beautiful veins that give Pieta the appearance having life flow
through the sculpture. In addition, when we look at Mary's hand supporting Christ under his arm, Michelangelo thought to have the skin of Christ
arm rise up like it would on a real person. There are so many intricate details in this sculpture that I can't physically describe them all. One must

making her body much larger, she was able to easily support the weight of her dead son lying in her lap. In these folds, Michelangelo shows his skill
and artisanship (Italian Renaissance). Michelangelo used a drill to give depth to the folds in Mary's drapery. This gave the folds a more realistic look
that was unpredictable, much like the techniques of the Greeks. I don't know how Michelangelo was able sculpt such magnificent works of art and

unhappily. In 1508 Michelangelo was called by Pope Julius, to paint the twelve apostles, and other scenes from the Bible, on the ceiling of the Sistine

apprentice of Domenico Ghirlandaio for three years starting 2 in 1488 (2). His father finally agreed on the terms that if the apprenticeship didn't

strength of Christianity, and three of them supported Michelangelo's work. One piece Michelangelo did for the church was the Pieta in Saint

became too powerful and the republic forced them out of control, resulting in the creation of another David as a celebration of their triumph. The

Despite the fact that the David's share time periods, political meanings, and origins, the two sculptures look completely different and evoke very

battle against Goliath. Donatello's David is portrayed following the victory against the feared adversary. He is full of glory and stands on the head

with nothing but his sling in hand. This creates more of a feeling of anticipation and strength of courage. The determination in Michelangelo's
