Introduction 2 &Lit. Review 2
Tobacco products are made up of over four thousand dangerous chemicals including about two–hundred and fifty known chemicals (Braithwaite,
Taylor,&Treadwell, 2009). According to the Center for Disease Control and prevention (1999)tobacco use is the most preventable cause of death and
disease in America. On average, smokers die thirteen to fourteen years quicker than people who don't smoke (Braithwaite et al. 2009). In the United
Stated over twenty percent of deaths are from tobacco use. Additionally, over six–hundred thousand people die from secondhand smoke each year with
one third being children(Action on smoking and health). Illnesses connected with tobacco use are cancer (bladder, esophagus, lung, mouth, throat),
chronic lung and cardiovascular disease and reproductive problems (Braithwaite et al. 2009). The CDC reports show that there is an increase in
"some day smokers," nationwide. "Some day smokers" are smokers who report that they smoke only on some days. Research states that 24.0% of the
adult population are "some day smokers." For ages 18–24 year olds 28.7% are "some day smokers." 18–24 year olds are at higher risk of being "some
day smokers" than any other age group. When these statistics are broken down by education level, it shows that adults with a college education
reported the highest currency of someday smoking (31.7%) (CDC, 4/2003).

Tobacco Products : Marketing, And Sales
They be found in almost any store, right behind the register after a grocery list has been completed. Tobacco products are multi–billion dollar industries
that thrive on the addiction of its' consumers. Although individuals have the right to use tobacco products, the United states should ban the production,
marketing, and sales because the marketing is geared towards teens and young adults, the health issues contributed to the use of tobacco are
overwhelming, they're highly addictive, and the effects of second–hand smoke is as harmful as smoking itself.
With the right structure and appeal to the target consumer, marketing can make or break the sales of a product. Tobacco companies are constantly
looking for ways to attract new consumers ensuring each generation of teens and young adults are addicted to their products; continuing their success
and cash flow. The most effective method of finding new ways to appeal to consumers is through market research and over the years, tobacco
companies have done a considerable amount. Their research shows that since the 1960s they've had an astonishingly high interest in young smokers,
despite their claims to only be interested in adult consumers. Why do tobacco companies have such a high interest in teens and young adults? Because
their studies show that people seldom start smoking after the age of 25 and begin smoking before the age of 18. Out of 5500 research documents that
were collected, 20% of them were teen and young adult

Government Regulation of Tobacco Products Government regulation of tobacco has come under some fierce opposition. Naturally the big tobacco
companies do not want any type of regulation and yet one company was a quiet supporter. This company, the Altria Group which is a parent
company of Philip Morris, believed the bill would pass so they wanted to make sure they had a say when the bill would be discussed. They believed
they could handle regulation they just did not want to see tobacco outlawed for good. While Altria is trying to understand and even supporting the bill,

incentive is that people would live longer more productive cancer free lives. Children could be children and not smoking at a young age and harming
their bodies with cigarettes. With government control over the tobacco industry the United States could see a dramatic decline in cancer and deaths due
to cigarette smoking. "Health advocates predicted that the new FDA standards could eventually reduce some of the 60 cancer–causing carcinogens and
4,000 harmful toxins in cigarette smoke or make cigarettes taste so bad they deterred users" (Lawrence & Weber, 2011, p. 192). By allowing the
FDA to regulate the chemicals in cigarettes and outlaw a majority of flavorings it would help in reducing the number of children that would be enticed
to try cigarettes. This in turn would save money on health care and many people would live longer more productive cancer free lives.

This addiction to nicotine is what makes it extremely difficult to quit tobacco consumption (Smoked Tobacco Products). There are two major forms of
tobacco consumption, including smoking tobacco, and smokeless tobacco. Smoking tobacco consists of the more common products such as cigarettes,
cigars, pipes, and hookahs. Acigarette is any roll of tobacco wrapped in paper or in any substance not containing tobacco and is the most common
tobacco product consumed in the U.S. (Smoked Tobacco Products). According to BeTobaccoFree.gov, Cigars are large, rolled bundles of dried
and cured tobacco with three major kinds, including large cigars, cigarillos, and little cigars (Smoked Tobacco Products). Hookahs, also known as
water pipes, are pipes that are used to smoke specially made tobacco that is available in a variety of flavors (Smoked Tobacco Products). Smokeless
tobacco is tobacco that is not burned. The two major types of smokeless tobacco are chewing tobacco and snuff. Chewing tobacco comes in long
strands of loose leaves, plugs, or twists of tobacco, which is usually chewed or placed between the cheek and gum or teeth (Smokeless Tobacco).
Snuff is finely ground tobacco that can be dry, moist, or in bag–like pouches (Smokeless Tobacco Products). These different forms of tobacco
consumption make them so appealing to users because of the wide variety of options and flavors that they can choose from. Plus, once

The Ban Of Tobacco Product Advertising
Introduction
The topic of marketing, tobacco, and ethics is a fantastic topic to stimulate conversations on ethics in general. In 2001 India considered the banning of
tobacco product advertising which led to a huge debate in ethics, marketing and the role of government. The many deaths and lives touched negatively
by tobacco while corporate entities have gotten rich is a battle ground rich with examples and research. I personally am an ex–smoker and smoked for
over 15 years of my life before I quit. There are many good reasons to quit smoking but smoking always my choice. I have seen many different
regulations applied and experienced the pressures of graphic pictures on packs of cigarettes that are designed to influence your desire to quit
personally. Is it ethically okay to ban smoking advertising?
Supporting the Ban
There are easily many reasons to support the banning of advertisement of tobacco products. The obvious reasons can be the smell, the public health
risk, and simple things like fire hazards. Underlying the obvious there are numerous other reasons to support the need to ban tobacco with far more
complex arguments and concerns like the targeting of children and impacts on the medical system of a nation. As a matter of ethical considerations, the
purpose of a government is usually the protection or greater good of a nation and its people. This makes a direct point that a government has
responsibility to protect its people and smoking kills undoubtedly

Guns do not kill people; people kill people. Cigarettes do not kill people; people who choose to smoke are killing themselves. The health risks of
using tobacco are common knowledge. It is a known fact that if someone smokes their chance of getting lung cancer is increased drastically, yet so
many Americans choose to do so. The FDA is taking steps to tighten the rules oftobacco marketing, some of these rules will include prohibiting
self–service tobacco displays in stores, restricting vending–machine sales, and forbidding most free samples of tobacco products. (Reid pg. 1) These are
just small hits to the big tobacco industry, but the FDA has no intention of stopping there. The question that comes to mind is, why attack theadvertising

The tobacco industry is armed with billions of dollars in profit. It has extensive connections to Capitol Hill in Washington. Tobacco advertisement
contributed 9.6 million in the last election cycle alone. The Industry's roots branch through every state capitol where budget–makers count on $7.5

and a host of magazines catering to women and minorities give $5 billion in advertisements to the Industry each year. (Falk Pg. 2) Last year,
cigarette companies spent $460 million on advertising of its tobacco products alone, most of it on print ads. Woman's Day ran $10.4 million worth of

Tobacco Products And E-Cigarettes: Case Study

proposed increase in taxes on tobacco products and e–cigarettes. Although the legislature was able to effectively fend off calls for an increase in the
sales tax and the income tax, the proposed increase would represent a tax increase, that disproportionately affects poorer residents and is an unstable
source of income. The state of Pennsylvania already leads the nation in the collection of "sin taxes', collecting over $2.6 billion every year. The
proposed tax of 40% on e–cigarettes would raise the cost of a product, which is often a substitute for traditional cigarettes. In addition, to this tax

The Use Of Tobacco Products During Pregnancy
The use of tobacco products during pregnancy has influenced the outcomes of infants' birth in multiple ways. Maternal smoking during pregnancy
impairs fetal growth and decreases gestational age thus, increasing several risk factors in the neonatal population. These risk factors are low birth
weight (LBW), and premature birth. There is a strong correlation between both risk factors as it relates to neonatal long–term morbidity and also
mortality. Infants who are born preterm accounts for a large percentage of early neonatal deaths and studies have exhibited that low birth weight
babies are at a higher risk of developing chronic illnesses later on in life (Tong, Jones, Dietz, D 'Angelo, & Bombard, 2009).
Research on smoking and its effects on the development of fetuses along with the birth weight of newborns have been a studied topic since 1957.
Unfortunately, since this time their have been numerous limitations based on how these examinations were conducted. Even though smoking has
decrease over the year's low birth weight and pre–term infants continues to be a risk factor for those prenatal mothers who continues to smoke.
Smoking during pregnancy has remained one of the most common preventable causes of infant morbidity and mortality. The rationality behind
concentrating on low birth weight infant and prematurity as a target of importance is made clear by steps taken by the United States government to

After reviewing the docket on Nicotine–Exposure Warnings and Child–Resistant Packaging for Liquid Nicotine, it is my personal belief that the FDA

Tobacco Products Control Act Of 1989 Essay
FACTS:
The Tobacco Products Control Act of 1989 sought to impose restrictions on the promotion of tobacco products. These restrictions concerned limitations
in three commercial categories: advertisement, promotion, and labelling. Under the Act, tobacco products cannot be advertised, and products must be
labeled with viable health warnings and a list of toxins. The packaging must be minimal, as to not be ostentatious to persuade Canadians from buying.
Furthermore, the Act would prohibit the distribution of free samples. Appellants RJR–Macdonald Inc. dissented, stating the Act was a direct
infringement upon the Charter's s.2 freedom of expression clause, and appellant Imperial Tobacco Ltd. further dissented.

The Quebec Court of Appeal reversed this decision, raising two important questions: whether or not Parliament possessed the legislative capability to

of the charter, and if so, whether or not this was justifiable under s.1.
La Forest, L'Heureux–DubГ©, Gunthier, and Cory J.J. dissented, stating the appeals should be allowed and those questions raised answered. However,
ss. 4 (advertisement), 8 (trademark use), and 9 (unattributed health warnings) of the Act cannot be found to coincide with the right of freedom of

It can be argued that tobacco products are one of the deadliest legal drugs in the history of mankind. Most of the countries around the world are
making progress to ban the sale of tobacco products and reduce smoking. Over the years, there has been a steady decline in global tobacco use; however,
their needs to be steeper taxation on tobacco products, bans on smoking advertisements, incentives towards reduced health care costs for non–smokers,
and tougher penalties for smoking around children. Reducing the sale and consumption of tobacco can also help the planet and make cleaner air for

Use of tobacco products can be called one of the deadliest legal drugs in the history of mankind. Smoking can cause many life–threatening diseases.
"Smoking is a major health problem. Tobacco use is by far the most important risk factor for most respiratory symptoms and chronic bronchitis. Active
smoking has been identified as the most important single factor leading to the development of COPD. Furthermore, smoking is a major cause of
disability and death." (Lindstrom, Kotaneimi, Jonsson, & Lundback, 2001).
The main ingredient that is found in tobacco products that is easily addictive is nicotine. It is a stimulant type drug. Being addicted to nicotine is just
as harmful as any other drug substance and your body craves it. If you just stop usage, you will even have withdrawal systems. The effects that
nicotine produces on the body include, increases in heart rate, blood pressure, and addiction of the drug liking effects of tobacco usage. Nicotine has
also been linked to birth defects in babies of mother's who smoke during pregnancy. (Sofuoglu, Yoo, Hill, & Mooney, 2008)
Tobacco use is also harmful to those who breathe second hand smoke. Smoking can harms others just as adversely by breathing in the fumes from

Tobacco Products Cause And Effects
Introduction
Tobacco products, specifically cigarettes, are products that usually cause a slow, painful death. If death is not eventually caused as a direct result of
tobacco products, they can still result in various other debilitating illnesses. It is not only health that the use of tobacco products causes to decline, but
also the monetary security of the individual indulging in these items. Whether it is money or health, tobacco products cause severe degradation in both
categories. Cigarettes and other items such as snuff can be both directly and indirectly linked to many thousand cases of death and illness each year in
the United States. There is no benefit to be gained from use of these harmful reagents, and for that reason a debilitating excise tax should be placed on
tobacco products.
Addiction
All forms of tobacco, such as snuff, cigars, cigarettes, and chewing tobacco, contain the drug nicotine, which accounts for the addictive nature of these
products. Nicotine is absorbed into the bloodstream when it is introduced to the body, this principle applies whether the tobacco is inhaled, smoked, or
chewed. When nicotine enters the bloodstream, it instantaneously begins to stimulate the adrenal glands, otherwise known as the glands that produce
adrenaline within the human body. This adrenaline, also known as the hormone epinephrine, prompts the central nervous system of the individual to
increase things such as blood pressure, respiration, and heart rate (DrugFacts:

Labeling Of Plain Packaging On Cigarette Cases, By Harry...
With the looming possibility of the implementation of plain packaging on cigarette cases, the lobbyist involved uses certain facts to shed light on the
seemingly hidden implications of the plain packaging policy. The main concern of the lobbyist and the advantage point lies within the state of
unawareness the majority of the population is left in. The lobbyist essentially claims that the plain packaging policy has no proof of being an
effective way of diminishing the smoking population. Though the lobbyist asserts that it is invalid, this research essay will introduce compelling
evidence and experimental data that suggests the notion behind the plain packaging policy is actually an efficient method for minimizing the
popularity of smoking. This paper will also include opposing point of views that argue otherwise and the issue with their allegations. Before
analyzing academic sources that convey the effectiveness of plain packaging, it is crucial to have an understanding of what plain packaging is and
how it works. Harry Clarke and David Pentice's article describes plain packaging as the removal of all aesthetic features from tobacco packages. Strictly
speaking, a set of explicit specifications determines what a package must have to be considered plain packaged. Some of these provisions include

"Acknowledging National Tobacco Strategy through Social Democracy Lens "
Introduction
Australia is the world leader in tobacco control, as they became the first country that implemented plain package policy. Since December 2012, all
tobacco products which are traded and brought to Australia must be in plain packaging in order to implement the National Tobacco Strategy (NTS)
2012 – 2018. (National Tobacco Strategy, 2012, p.27) The range of policies including health signs on packaging, mass media campaigns, bans on
tobacco promotion, price increases, and controls on smoking and access to tobacco were implemented (ibid, p.1). As a result, 2014–2015 data shows
that 14.5 percent aged 18 years and above were daily smokers (2.6 million adults), dropped from 16 percent in 2011–12. This reduction is a
continuation of the trend over the past two decades. In 2001, 22.4 percent of adults smoked daily, while 23.8% of adults smoked daily in 1995
(Australian Bureau of Statistic, 2015).
To recognise Australia's successes in handling tobacco problems, this essay will use socialdemocracy perspectives as key theoretical frameworks to
the National Tobacco Strategy in Australia. According to its supporters, social democracy is the best way to organise an economic system or society
because it seeks to peacefully build a healthy society (Judt, T, 2005). In this case, social democracy believes that smokers and the market are irrational
and, therefore, the government

Stop Selling Tobacco And Tobacco Products
American's spend a startling $156 Billion dollars every year on tobacco and tobacco related products and an additional $133 Billion dollars on
healthcare for diseases that originate from smoking and chewing tobacco. The human toll is also significant with a projected 8 million people to die
every year by 2030. To combat these extreme statistics CVS Caremark, now CVS Health, has decided to make the hard business decision to stop selling
tobacco products in all 7,700 of its drug stores. The decision stemmed from changing its image from a corner store that fills prescriptions to a
health care company that is trying to "reinvent the pharmacy to have a more supportive and active role in health care". To show support for the
idea, petitions have been popping up on Change.com like the one by Michael Brochstein of New York, New York who is calling for other drug store
giant Walgreens and its subsidiary Duane Read to follow in CVS's footsteps and stop selling tobacco products also. Proponents of the idea say that if
these giants stop selling tobacco then regular purchasers will have to go elsewhere, making it less convenient and possibly making smokers move in
the right direction, to quit smoking and hopefully curve the smoking rate as a whole. This is needed because although smoking has been on the
decrease since the early 1990's, recently getting to a low of 18% percent of white males being smokers, it is still an epidemic that kills more people
than alcohol, AIDS, car accidents,

Smoking Tobacco Products and Electronic-cigarettes
Smoking became a staple of Southern United States culture when it's environment proved perfect for growing and harvesting tobacco. With Kentucky
and North Carolina "accounting for 71% of tobacco grown in the United States," it is easy to see how the smoking culture is so deeply embedded and
loved by southerners ("Economies"). Since the birth of this relationship in the late eighteenth century, a plethora of research has shown many negative
side effects of smoking tobacco, such as: cancer, increased risk for respiratory disease and cardiovascular disease, and tooth decay ("Economies"). This,
along with recent bans put in place by a growing number of cities that make it a crime to smoke in public places, has paved the way for a new ... Show

In a strange turn of events, the American Cancer Society, the American Lung Association, and the American Heart Association are all against the bill.
They claim it is an attempt by big tobacco companies to undermine local ordinances, which would be abolished and unified to the new state law
(McGrory). This whole situation seems rather ridiculous considering both the advocates and the opposition want to see electronic cigarettes regulated
by age, the same way as conventional cigarettes. Furthermore, state and local governments and corporations seem puzzled with how to treat
electronic cigarettes in public and in the workplace. Most cities have already outlawed smoking regular cigarettes in public places. Most corporations
banned the use of cigarettes on the job years ago and even have designated times and places to light up. Do electronic cigarette smokers face the same
destiny? Many city and state officials hope so. The introduction of the electronic cigarette has provided the perfect loop–hole for smokers to avoid
breaking the law and left lawmakers perplexed until now. Minnesota has set forth a bill that will ban the use of electronic cigarettes anywhere that
conventional cigarettes are banned on the basis that "there is no way for the public to know what harmful chemicals are in e–cigarettes or the amount of
nicotine inhaled (Irmen)." Through a recent phone survey conducted by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota, seventy nine percent of

Tobacco Products And Its Effects On Children And Young Adults
In an effort to discourage the consumption of tobacco products in India, a ban was issued stopping advertising and sponsoring of sporting events. This
ban was brought to the table with the intentions of keeping the citizens of India from undue influence towards the use of a product that when used to
the satisfaction of its producers would result in major health issues and eventual death. The use of tobacco products is directly attributable to the deaths
of 3 million people in 1990 and the eventual death of 10 million people in the year 2030. Those in favor of the ban argued that a government that

Increased spending on these products, more labor intensive than the production of tobacco related products, is more likely to increase employment as
demands for tobacco products decreased and the demand for other products increased. Though the ban on the advertisement of cigarettes would
decrease the number of jobs related to the farming of tobacco and the production of cigarettes, increased demand in other sectors would more than
compensate for those losses.
Those who seek to impose the ban also argue that the government is responsible for the well being of its constituents in all aspects. A government that
would collect a tax for the sale of a product with known health risks that it is often responsible for treating in the long wrong is not a government that
is protecting its people. Even from themselves.
Those who are in opposition to the ban have myriad reasons for their argument. One such argument is that the government should not act as
unilaterally as to have sway over such personal decisions and has cited several countries similar bans and their results to discredit the possible ban as
being ineffective.
The government's responsibility to the costs of treating tobacco influenced illness have been argued as moot because the patients who would choose
to smoke would shuffle off of this mortal coil before their disease became a cost that would outpace the taxes collected from tobacco sales.

Persuasive Essay On Tobacco Products
One of the most prevalent topics in our twenty–first century world is that of health. Now more than ever, a healthy lifestyle, whether that be through
diet, exercise, or mental strength, is being promoted, especially by the younger generation. But, several unhealthy habits are left to be. The use of
cigarettes is among these unhealthy habits. Despite the well–known adverse effects of cigarette smoke, it continuous to be a norm for all people alike.
The possession and purchase of tobacco products should be limited to citizens twenty–one years and older because of the widespread deaths caused by
tobacco products, the unfair manipulation of youths, and the ill effects that those who choose not to partake are still subject to, due to others' choices.
With tobacco products available and easily accessible to youth and minors, Healton and associates argue that teenagers' social learning process has
become unusual, and adolescents believe tobacco products "cannot be too bad" if it is sold like anything else. According to a 1990 study,
Americans under 18 years old smoke 947 million packs of cigarettes annually (103). The fight against the tobacco industry appealing to youth as
consumers started over two decades ago. According to Feighery, Borzekowski, Schooler, and Flora, when the U.S. Food and Drug Association (FDA)
made the decision in 1996 to issue regulations designed to limit tobacco sales to young people, it was acting on citizen concern about tobacco use in
teenagers (123).

Use of Tobacco Products and How They Affect the Human Body
Tobacco products have been widely cultivated and utilized from as early as the mid sixteenth–century. Native Americans believed the plant to be an
effective form of medicine. Many people adopted this belief, and there was thought to be very little to no harmful effects from the tobacco
products.Throughout the years, modern medicine, science, and technology have been used to study the tobacco plant and more importantly, the deadly

people still continue to purchase and use tobacco products. Proper warnings are posted with the Surgeon General's approval on every tobacco product

products and values with others.(Kotler, Armstrong, Saunders, Wong page 5) One of the products that are exchanged through marketing is cigarettes.
Tobacco is considered an inherently unethical product because is addictive, dangerous and causes environmental damage. Tobacco is also considered
a pleasing product because its immediate satisfaction is high but sometimes has harmful effects in the long run. One of the long run effects of

not only about the cigarette as a product but with the ethics of cigarettes as well, that affect the social process of marketing. This is because marketing

Tobacco Products Should Be Banned
Tobacco products have been used for chewing and smoking in the North American continent for over a thousand years. Tobacco products have been a
part of United Stated history since its colonization. However, although tobacco products have been used for centuries there have been studies done in
more recent years that have linked tobacco products to widespread health problems. This has caused controversy in the world today on whether or not
tobacco products should be banned in this country. There are many people in favor of keeping tobacco products in production due to monetary
concerns. Conversely, there are many people very concerned with the health problems associated with tobacco products. Therefore, one must interpret
for themselves if the production, sale, and use of tobacco products is something that is harmful to society and should be banned for its betterment, or
something that is helpful to society and not worth getting rid of.
Tobacco is a leafy plant that is cultivated, crushed, and made into the tobacco products that thousands of people use today. There are several different
types of tobacco products in production. There are two categories that tobacco products can be grouped into, smoked tobacco and smokeless tobacco.

Ban Banning Tobacco Companies From Advertising Their...
I had heard that some countries were trying to make their people to smoke less every year, first started with the ban on tobacco, but this apparently
didn't work out, so , now they are trying to make face to this problem by increasing taxes.
On Feb 6, 2001 Government of India (GOI) dropped a bombshell on the tobacco Industry when it announced that it would shortly table a bill banning
Tobacco Companies from advertising their products and sponsoring sports and cultural events. The objective of such a ban was to discourage
adolescents from consuming tobacco products and also arm the Government with powers to launch an anti–Tobacco Program.
This decision seemed to have sparked an intense debate, not just over the ethical aspects of Government 's moral policing but also over the
achievability of the objective itself. Reacting strongly against the proposed ban, Suhel Seth, CEO, Equus Advertising said, "The ban does not have

The Argument Against Ban On Tobacco Related Advertising
WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT: UNIT 4– ETHICS CASE STUDY
The arguments in favor of the ban on tobacco related advertising in India are plentiful. First, proponents of the ban assert that the state has the right to
intervene in the name of public health. Second, there are other precedents for dangerous or potentially dangerous products' advertising being restricted
such as firearms or pharmaceuticals. Third, tobacco related deaths are projected to increase over the next few years and we need to take action to stem
the flow of new users. Fourth, youth targeted advertising campaigns are wrong and the tobacco industry's own released documents indicate that the
14–24 year old demographic is targeted as "tomorrow's cigarette business", these campaigns need to stop to reduce the number of young people
getting addicted to cigarettes. Fifth, policies aimed at reducing tobacco use are forecast to increase employment despite the tobacco industry itself
contracting due to the fact that the money spent on tobacco products does not leave the economy if not spent on those products but actually is used on
more complex products. Finally, complete bans on tobacco marketing result in reduced use of tobacco products over time according to studies in
Norway, Finland, New Zealand and France, but the ban needs to cover all media outlets.
Those opposed to the ban on tobacco advertising in India have their own logic for opposing the restrictions. Oppositionists first assert that a restriction

The Ban On Advertising Tobacco Products
The ban put on advertising tobacco products in India has caused a lot of debates. Some say it violates the constitution, others say it saves lives. Each
side sets a valid argument, but which side is right? These bans do not only exist in India. They have been put into action in many different countries as
well. Tobacco use kills 5.4 million people a year, averaging at about half of all smokers. (W.H.O.–Facts) I think that everyone is aware of how bad
tobacco use is for your health. What people may not seem to realize, is that advertisements play a large role in these deaths. Among people in India,
74.4% of school children ages 13–15 were exposed to pro–cigarette billboards in 2009. (Sinha DN.) When putting these facts together, something
begins to seem morally corrupt about these numbers. This is why I can understand the concern that people have regarding the heavily advertised
tobacco products. When advertising for a company, there are many ethical dilemmas that a manager may face. Even if management is aware of the
negative impacts their product can have on their consumers, they are still held responsible to advertise their product. Because of this obligation,
managers are succumbed to conceal the truths about their product. They continue to advertise from a positive perspective, leaving their consumers
unaware of the other bad side effects. In my opinion, these facts could be supported for or against the ban on tobacco. On one side, a business is
clearly using

Tobacco products are multi–billion dollar industries that thrive on the addiction of its' consumers. Although individuals have the right to use tobacco products, the United states should ban the production, marketing, and sales because the marketing is geared towards teens and young adults, the health issues contributed to the use of tobacco are overwhelming, they're highly addictive, and the effects of second–hand smoke is as harmful as smoking itself. With the right structure and appeal to the target consumer, marketing can make or break the sales of a product. Tobacco companies are constantly looking for ways to attract new consumers ensuring each generation of teens and young adults are addicted to their products; continuing their success and cash flow. The most effective method of finding new ways to appeal to consumers is through market research and over the years, tobacco companies have done a considerable amount. Their research shows that since the 1960s they've had an astonishingly high interest in young smokers, despite their claims to only be interested in adult consumers. Why do tobacco companies have such a high interest in teens and young adults? Because their studies show that people seldom start smoking after the age of 25 and begin smoking before the age of 18. Children could be children and not smoking at a young age and harming their bodies with cigarettes. With government control over the tobacco industry the United States could see a dramatic decline in cancer and deaths due to cigarette smoking. "Health advocates predicted that the new FDA standards could eventually reduce some of the 60 cancer–causing carcinogens and 4,000 harmful toxins in cigarette smoke or make cigarettes taste so bad they deterred users" (Lawrence & Weber, 2011, p. 192). By allowing the FDA to regulate the chemicals in cigarettes and outlaw a majority of flavorings it would help in reducing the number of children that would be enticed to try cigarettes. • 9. The Use Of Tobacco Products During Pregnancy The use of tobacco products during pregnancy has influenced the outcomes of infants' birth in multiple ways. Maternal smoking during pregnancy impairs fetal growth and decreases gestational age thus, increasing several risk factors in the neonatal population. These risk factors are low birth weight (LBW), and premature birth. There is a strong correlation between both risk factors as it relates to neonatal long–term morbidity and also mortality. Infants who are born preterm accounts for a large percentage of early neonatal deaths and studies have exhibited that low birth weight babies are at a higher risk of developing chronic illnesses later on in life (Tong, Jones, Dietz, D 'Angelo, & Bombard, 2009). Research on smoking and its effects on the development of fetuses along with the birth weight of newborns have been a studied topic since 1957. • 20. Tobacco Products Cause And Effects Introduction Tobacco products, specifically cigarettes, are products that usually cause a slow, painful death. If death is not eventually caused as a direct result of tobacco products, they can still result in various other debilitating illnesses. It is not only health that the use of tobacco products causes to decline, but also the monetary security of the individual indulging in these items. Whether it is money or health, tobacco products cause severe degradation in both categories. Cigarettes and other items such as snuff can be both directly and indirectly linked to many thousand cases of death and illness each year in the United States. There is no benefit to be gained from use of these harmful reagents, and for that reason a debilitating excise tax should be placed on tobacco products. Addiction All forms of tobacco, such as snuff, cigars, cigarettes, and chewing tobacco, contain the drug nicotine, which accounts for the addictive nature of these products. Nicotine is absorbed into the bloodstream when it is introduced to the body, this principle applies whether the tobacco is inhaled, smoked, or chewed. When nicotine enters the bloodstream, it instantaneously begins to stimulate the adrenal glands, otherwise known as the glands that produce adrenaline within the human body. This adrenaline, also known as the hormone epinephrine, prompts the central nervous system of the individual to increase things such as blood pressure, respiration, and heart rate (DrugFacts: ... • 21. Labeling Of Plain Packaging On Cigarette Cases, By Harry... With the looming possibility of the implementation of plain packaging on cigarette cases, the lobbyist involved uses certain facts to shed light on the seemingly hidden implications of the plain packaging policy. The main concern of the lobbyist and the advantage point lies within the state of unawareness the majority of the population is left in. The lobbyist essentially claims that the plain packaging policy has no proof of being an effective way of diminishing the smoking population. Though the lobbyist asserts that it is invalid, this research essay will introduce compelling evidence and experimental data that suggests the notion behind the plain packaging policy is actually an efficient method for minimizing the popularity of smoking. This paper will also include opposing point of views that argue otherwise and the issue with their allegations. Before analyzing academic sources that convey the effectiveness of plain packaging, it is crucial to have an understanding of what plain packaging is and how it works. Harry Clarke and David Pentice's article describes plain packaging as the removal of all aesthetic features from tobacco packages. Strictly speaking, a set of explicit specifications determines what a package must have to be considered plain packaged. Some of these provisions include changing brightly colored cigarette packs to packages that contain "standardized drab dark–brown [colors,] with trade names in a standard font" (Clarke Pentice). Irham Adhitya S 3617798 "Acknowledging National Tobacco Strategy through Social Democracy Lens " Introduction Australia is the world leader in tobacco control, as they became the first country that implemented plain package policy. Since December 2012, all tobacco products which are traded and brought to Australia must be in plain packaging in order to implement the National Tobacco Strategy (NTS) 2012 – 2018. (National Tobacco Strategy, 2012, p.27) The range of policies including health signs on packaging, mass media campaigns, bans on tobacco promotion, price increases, and controls on smoking and access to tobacco were implemented (ibid, p.1). As a result, 2014–2015 data shows that 14.5 percent aged 18 years and above were daily smokers (2.6 million adults), dropped from 16 percent in 2011–12. This reduction is a continuation of the trend over the past two decades. In 2001, 22.4 percent of adults smoked daily, while 23.8% of adults smoked daily in 1995 (Australian Bureau of Statistic, 2015). To recognise Australia's successes in handling tobacco problems, this essay will use socialdemocracy perspectives as key theoretical frameworks to the National Tobacco Strategy in Australia. According to its supporters, social democracy is the best way to organise an economic system or society because it seeks to peacefully build a healthy society (Judt, T, 2005). • 23. Stop Selling Tobacco And Tobacco Products American's spend a startling $156 Billion dollars every year on tobacco and tobacco related products and an additional $133 Billion dollars on healthcare for diseases that originate from smoking and chewing tobacco. The human toll is also significant with a projected 8 million people to die every year by 2030. To combat these extreme statistics CVS Caremark, now CVS Health, has decided to make the hard business decision to stop selling tobacco products in all 7,700 of its drug stores. The decision stemmed from changing its image from a corner store that fills prescriptions to a health care company that is trying to "reinvent the pharmacy to have a more supportive and active role in health care". To show support for the idea, petitions have been popping up on Change.com like the one by Michael Brochstein of New York, New York who is calling for other drug store giant Walgreens and its subsidiary Duane Read to follow in CVS's footsteps and stop selling tobacco products also. Proponents of the idea say that if these giants stop selling tobacco then regular purchasers will have to go elsewhere, making it less convenient and possibly making smokers move in the right direction, to quit smoking and hopefully curve the smoking rate as a whole. This is needed because although smoking has been on the decrease since the early 1990's, recently getting to a low of 18% percent of white males being smokers, it is still an epidemic that kills more people than alcohol, AIDS, car accidents, ... This whole situation seems rather ridiculous considering both the advocates and the opposition want to see electronic cigarettes regulated by age, the same way as conventional cigarettes. Furthermore, state and local governments and corporations seem puzzled with how to treat electronic cigarettes in public and in the workplace. Most cities have already outlawed smoking regular cigarettes in public places. Most corporations banned the use of cigarettes on the job years ago and even have designated times and places to light up. Do electronic cigarette smokers face the same destiny? Many city and state officials hope so. The introduction of the electronic cigarette has provided the perfect loop–hole for smokers to avoid breaking the law and left lawmakers perplexed until now. Minnesota has set forth a bill that will ban the use of electronic cigarettes anywhere that conventional cigarettes are banned on the basis that "there is no way for the public to know what harmful chemicals are in e–cigarettes or the amount of nicotine inhaled (Irmen)." Now more than ever, a healthy lifestyle, whether that be through diet, exercise, or mental strength, is being promoted, especially by the younger generation. But, several unhealthy habits are left to be. The use of cigarettes is among these unhealthy habits. Despite the well–known adverse effects of cigarette smoke, it continuous to be a norm for all people alike. The possession and purchase of tobacco products should be limited to citizens twenty–one years and older because of the widespread deaths caused by tobacco products, the unfair manipulation of youths, and the ill effects that those who choose not to partake are still subject to, due to others' choices. With tobacco products available and easily accessible to youth and minors, Healton and associates argue that teenagers' social learning process has become unusual, and adolescents believe tobacco products "cannot be too bad" if it is sold like anything else. According to a 1990 study, Americans under 18 years old smoke 947 million packs of cigarettes annually (103). The fight against the tobacco industry appealing to youth as consumers started over two decades ago. Basically, the RTA is the same as the clearomizer, but the consumer can build their own coils instead of buying pre –made coils. RDA is completely different set up unlike the RTA and clearomizer it does not have a tank to hold the e – juice. In an RDA, the consumer must build their own coils and wick them with cotton, this allows them to customize their vaping experience to their liking. The downfall of the RDA is that you must constantly drip e–juice on the cotton to keep it moist. The battery of the original electronic cigarette has been improved significantly and is known as mods. There are two different kinds of mods mechanical mod and regulated mod, the mechanical mods are more on the dangerous side especially for inexperienced vapers. A mechanical mod is an unregulated type of device which basically means that there is no way to keep the voltage steady throughout the life of the battery, since you are running the devices directly off the battery source you cannot increase or decrease the wattage (Breazy , 2016). In most recent years, the advancement of mods and tanks has been increasing at such a rapid pace, mods now have the capability to be set at 300+ watts and in correlation tanks are now able to handle higher watts producing more vapor production. The quality of juice has increasingly improved and majority of vape shops offer premium quality juice for competitive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Banning Tobacco Companies From Advertising Their Products... On February 6, 2001 Government of India released shock news on the tobacco Industry when it announced that it would soon table a bill banning Tobacco Companies from advertising their products and sponsoring sports and cultural events. The reason for doing this is to discourage the company's adolescents from overwhelming tobacco products and also arm the Government with powers to launch an anti–Tobacco Program. According to Suhel Seth, CEO, Equus Advertising said, "The ban does not have teeth. It is a typical knee–jerk reaction by any Government to create some kind of popularity for itself. The tobacco industry was a major contributor to the State Exchequer. The people who didn't agree with the ban challenged that by putting a ban on advertisements and sponsorships by tobacco companies, the state was effectively stepping in to tell smokers that they were incompetent of deciding by themselves what was good or bad for their health and that, therefore it had to play the role of a responsible nanny. According to Amit Sarkar, Editor, Tobacco News "Adults who consume tobacco do so of their own free choice. The risk falls entirely on them and is fully explained to them." People believe that then if they lose sight of the truth on which all the free societies depend, namely that freedom and risks are inextricable. They also believe that if you can buy and sell tobacco you should be able to advertise for it also. A survey conducted by the Indian Market Research Bureau (IMRB), 49% ... • 39. The Argument Against Ban On Tobacco Related Advertising WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT: UNIT 4– ETHICS CASE STUDY The arguments in favor of the ban on tobacco related advertising in India are plentiful. First, proponents of the ban assert that the state has the right to intervene in the name of public health. Second, there are other precedents for dangerous or potentially dangerous products' advertising being restricted such as firearms or pharmaceuticals. Third, tobacco related deaths are projected to increase over the next few years and we need to take action to stem the flow of new users. Fourth, youth targeted advertising campaigns are wrong and the tobacco industry's own released documents indicate that the 14–24 year old demographic is targeted as "tomorrow's cigarette business", these campaigns need to stop to reduce the number of young people getting addicted to cigarettes. Fifth, policies aimed at reducing tobacco use are forecast to increase employment despite the tobacco industry itself contracting due to the fact that the money spent on tobacco products does not leave the economy if not spent on those products but actually is used on more complex products. Finally, complete bans on tobacco marketing result in reduced use of tobacco products over time according to studies in Norway, Finland, New Zealand and France, but the ban needs to cover all media outlets. Those opposed to the ban on tobacco advertising in India have their own logic for opposing the restrictions. Oppositionists first assert that a restriction on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Ban On Advertising Tobacco Products The ban put on advertising tobacco products in India has caused a lot of debates. Some say it violates the constitution, others say it saves lives. Each side sets a valid argument, but which side is right? These bans do not only exist in India. They have been put into action in many different countries as well. Tobacco use kills 5.4 million people a year, averaging at about half of all smokers. (W.H.O.–Facts) I think that everyone is aware of how bad tobacco use is for your health. What people may not seem to realize, is that advertisements play a large role in these deaths. Among people in India, 74.4% of school children ages 13–15 were exposed to pro–cigarette billboards in 2009. (Sinha DN.) When putting these facts together, something begins to seem morally corrupt about these numbers. This is why I can understand the concern that people have regarding the heavily advertised tobacco products. When advertising for a company, there are many ethical dilemmas that a manager may face. Even if management is aware of the negative impacts their product can have on their consumers, they are still held responsible to advertise their product. Because of this obligation, managers are succumbed to conceal the truths about their product. They continue to advertise from a positive perspective, leaving their consumers unaware of the other bad side effects. In my opinion, these facts could be supported for or against the ban on tobacco. On one side, a business is clearly using ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
