Woman with Disabilities Explores Creative Activities

2. Beverly (sudo name) is a 45 year old woman
with three strands of disability.
Intellectual disability
Mental health difficulties
physical and sensory disability
Beverly lives independently with
professional, semi professional and informal
support.
The facilitation takes place in Beverly’s
home, over several sessions on a one to one
bases.
3. “The guiding principle for the future is that
supports will be tailored to individual need and
will be flexible, responsive and person
centred.
Having choices, doing interesting and useful
things with one’s time, learning new skills,
meeting people and enjoying their company.”
(National Working Group 2012)

have been explored.
A variety of materials have been gathered for
further art activities.
A list and description of the activates has
been comprised that Beverly enjoys and
entered in her care plan.
Unfortunately this will not necessary result in
these sessions taking place on a regular basis
despite New Directions recommendations, as
care staff priorities can differ considerably.

Art can bring issues to the surface
Art can be calming
Can be disruptive if others come in and
comment on art work being produced.
22. Liked the time spent doing the activities
more than any particular activity.
Would like to carry on doing art activities on
a regular basis.
Would like to try tie dying and printing.
Did not like the cleaning up after some of
the activities.
