Secondary Analysis of Qualitative Data
This essay aims to examine the practice of secondary analysis on qualitative data in terms of barriers
to overcome and advantages of its practice. Over the last decades, archives of qualitative data have
become widely accessible to research–es and there has been a smaller revolution in the practice of
secondary analysis on such data. (Seale, 2004) There are both practical and methodological ad–
vantages for researchers to use data that has been collected by others in order to pursue new
research. However, this approach is not unproblematic. One of the most prominent features of
qualitative research is its emphasis on contextual understanding and data– generating process
between the researcher and partici–pants, which is to some extent lost ... Show more content on

For example, a qualitative re–searcher may implement grounded theory method, which implies that
the pur–pose and question evolves throughout the project. Such practice is very sensitive to
contextual influences and the specific methods and perspectives employed by the researcher.
(Vromen, 2010)
Consequently, the emphasis on the role of the researcher and the context within qualitative research
creates a barrier to practising secondary analysis. Entering a data set as a secondary researcher has
three broad implications in terms of con–text. First, the dynamic environment of researching
participants through rela–tionships and reflexivity is lost. The data is now static in the sense that it is
al–ready shaped and collected by the primary research and you cannot engage with the participants
anymore. Second, which follows from the first, is that all the choices of methods of collection has
already been done and cannot be undone. Decisions around units, cases and sampling for the
primary research cannot be changed. Third, it is impossible for the primary researcher to grasp all
contexts and influences in which the research is pursued and then translate them into the data. There
will be information that is left out in the primary data due to both selectivity and inability, which
becomes a problem of not knowing

Qualitative Data Collection
Application of appropriate data collection method is important to avoid invalid evaluation results
after implementation. As the data collection method plays an important role in impacting evaluation,
a qualitative data collection method was chosen for this particular study. It is because; qualitative
data provides useful information to understand the process behind the observed process and also
helps in understanding nurses and patients perception towards the change management. Qualitative
data will also help in generating evaluation hypothesis by strengthening the survey questionnaire
and other evaluation findings (University of Wisconsin, n.d). In addition to this, as the evaluation
method includes interview, observation and documentation, ... Show more content on

Different Schools Within Two Separate School Districts
Research Sites The proposed research study will take place in two schools within two separate
school districts in Tennessee. In order to protect the identity of the research sites, pseudonyms have
been used to reference the names of the two schools selected for the study. Fairfax Elementary
(School A) is a Title I school in a suburban area of northeast Tennessee. This school is considered a
turn–around school, having earned Blue Ribbon status in 2009, and was awarded National Title I
Distinguished School in 2010. Though Fairfax Elementary has existed for forty years, the new
facility was built on its original site in 2010. Fairfax Elementary serves a racially and economically
diverse population consisting of 566 Pre–K through fourth–grade students. The breakdown of the
population is as follows: 63.2% Economically Disadvantaged; 15% Disabilities; 71% Caucasian;
17.5% Black, 8.6% Hispanic; and 2.2% Asian. The school's leadership team consists of one
principal and one part–time assistant principal. There are twenty–six regular, classroom teachers and
nine additional special area teachers serving Fairfax's diverse, Title I population of Pre–K through
fourth grade students. Mountain Ridge Elementary (School B) is a rural school in the most northeast
area of Tennessee. This high achieving school was awarded Blue Ribbon status in 2008. Mountain
Ridge serves 450 students across Pre–K through sixth grades. The school profile is as follows: 67%
Economically Disadvantaged; 16%

An Interview With Andrea Williams, Principal Of Elena...
Using Strategic Planning
This information was gathered in an interview with Andrea Williams, Principal of Theresa Bunker
Elementary. In the past three years that Mrs. Williams has been principal of this school she has
brought a strong focus onto using data to make appropriate instructional decisions as well as execute
strategic planning to help the school progress. The implementation of the PLC process has helped
the teachers to gain an understanding of how valuable data collection and analysis can be for their
teaching practice. Looking at data also helps the school attain the yearly goals laid out by the
district's strategic plan. One of the first steps taken in developing a strategic plan for the school is to
gather and analyze data in order to find the school's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities for growth
as well as any threats to the progress of the school. Early in the year the strategic planning team will
review quantitative data collected from student achievement scores, attendance rates, discipline
trends, financial records, transportation reports, and so forth. Depending upon the specific issue
addressed in the planning process, these types of quantitative data serve to inform decision–making
processes. The collection of qualitative data is also an integral part of best practices in development
of a strategic plan. Qualitative data collection includes use of surveys, focus groups, and interviews
with key stakeholder groups. It is important and useful to

Types Of Quantitative Data Collection And Five Types For...
Data Analysis As noted in Table 1, there were four types of quantitative data collection and five
types for qualitative data. Quantitative. The quantitative data from the population–sourcing
databases was used to define the demographics and subgroups being studied. The PCA performed on
the teacher questionnaires resulted in a list of effective teaching factors, which was divided by the
subgroup and demographic data, though this list was not included in the study. The PCA results
from the student surveys created another list of effective teaching factors, which were viewed as
indicators of environment in the school and classroom. This data was then included in the mixed
method analysis. The student survey analysis also resulted in the ... Show more content on

Qualitative. Most of the qualitative data (i.e., observations and interviews) was entered into SPSS
and coded using the NVivo software tool. For the interviews, the NVivo tool allowed researchers to
perform PCA and identify themes and dimensions which the researchers stated they used for further
investigation and analysis. For the observations, the ISTOF and QoT data was reduced using a factor
analysis and a confirmatory factor analysis, then the results between the two tools were compared to
identify the main factors of effective teaching. The article does not specify how data from the focus
groups was captured, analyzed or utilized in the interpretation. Mixed method. The researchers used
the combined ISTOF and QoT results to run a correlation analysis with the indicators identified
from the student surveys. The article included a table listing the resulting six factors and the
correlated indicators. This same table included three other statistical analyses as well, though the
article did not explicitly state why these particular analyses were used nor interpret the meaning of
these results. The NVivo tool allowed the researchers to combine analyses from the different data
sets gathered, while also providing the ability to separate the results by various groupings such as

What Is College Readiness?
Introduction
What is college readiness? When we say the word "college readiness "it means a lot of things to a
lot of different people. In the state of Nevada, the definition of college readiness is "the pupil who
graduates from high school demonstrates the foundational knowledge, skills, and qualities to
succeed, without remediation, in workforce training, certification, and degree programs" (Crystal
Abba, 2013, p. 3). I believe that content knowledge, key cognitive skills and foundational skills are
very important and helps students at college level courses. Students arrive at colleges ready with
different level of readiness. Peer tutoring is one the effective way help students to gain foundational
and cognitive skills in a high school.
Part 1: Research Report
Research Purpose
The purpose of the study is to reveal if peer tutoring by same age will improve the percent of
students who met the ACT College Readiness Benchmark Scores. In Nevada, to be eligible to
graduate from high school, all students must take Nevada's College and Career Readiness (CCR)
assessment in their high school junior year. All students in junior year must participate in the ACT
CCR assessment to complete high school graduation requirement.
Problem Statement and Description of Setting
Recently, we have received the ACT profile report for the high school where I am working as a
college counselor. The report focuses on student test performance in the context of college
readiness, the number of our

Collecting Qualitative Data Paper
PART 1
Collecting Qualitative Data
Research truly is essential to the success of any marketing campaign or process and can greatly
contribute to the success of a product, service or brand in the marketplace. Market research can help
to determine risks and opportunities within the market, and can provide a greater depth of
understanding of consumers and the target audience. Market research helps to define and solve
research 'problems' and this is extremely beneficial to any business or organisation (Burns & Bush,
2003). By having consumer insight because of market research, marketers are able to promote a
product to the true relevant target market, rather than wasting time and money promoting to the
whole marketplace. There are two main methods of market research, being qualitative research and
quantitative research. Both of these methods have benefits and can be used in conjunction, but for
the best results one method of data collection is often used. Quantitative data focuses on a numerical
approach to data collection via the use of statistics and information taken from surveys and census
data. Qualitative data however focuses on gathering information and exploratory research through
observations and interviews. The main approaches to collecting this type of data are experience or
expert surveys, focus groups, and in–depth interviews (Diekroger, 2014).

Qualitative Data: Research and Collection
Qualitative Data
I. Management and Organization of Qualitative Research Data Qualitative research data is
interpretive and descriptive and because of the nature of qualitative research data, the best forms of
organization and management of the data is coding or grouping the data when looking for patterns in
the research findings. Five steps to good data management are reported to include those stated as
follows:
(1) Choose and follow a clear file naming system;
(2) Develop a data tracking system;
(3) Establish and document transcription/translation procedures;
(4) Establish quality control procedures; and
(5) Establish a Realistic Timeline. (John Hopkins Bloomberg, School of Public Health, 2008, p.2)
It is necessary to allot a certain amount of time to each task in a qualitative study in order to be
organized. For example time should be allowed for:
(1) Traveling to the site and locating a participant
(2) Gaining consent to and conducting an interview
(3) Downloading and preparing a file
(4) Transcribing the file
(5) Translating the file
(6) Coding the file
(7) Conducting quality control, and
(8) For making any corrections that are needed. (John Hopkins Bloomberg, School of Public Health,
2008, p.10)
II. Qualitative Data Collection and Saturation of the Data
Qualitative data analysis is reported to reach a point that is referred to as "saturation" which is stated
to signal that the study is complete and that there is "a judgment of diminishing returns

Qualitative Research Is Good At Simplifying And Managing...
Qualitative research is good at simplifying and managing data without destroying complexity and
context. Qualitative methods are highly appropriate for questions where preemptive reduction of the
data will prevent discovery. If the purpose is to learn from the participants in a setting or a process
the way they experience it, the meanings they put on it, and how they interpret what they
experience, the researcher needs methods that will allow for discovery and do justice to their
perceptions and the complexity of their interpretations. Qualitative methods have in common the
goal of generating new ways of seeing existing data. If the purpose is to construct a theory or a
theoretical framework that reflects reality rather than the researchers own perspective or prior
research results, one may need methods that assist the discovery of theory in data. If the purpose is
to understand phenomena deeply and in detail, the researcher needs methods for discovery of central
themes and analysis of core concerns. Each of these suggestions has a flip side. If one knows what is
being hypothesized and what they are likely to find, if one do not need to know the complexity of
others' understandings, if one is testing prior theory rather than constructing new frameworks, or if
one is simply describing a situation rather than deeply analyzing it, it is possible that one should not
be working qualitatively. Perhaps the research question that one is tackling with in–depth interviews
would be

Concepts Of Statistical Studies Essay
Basic Concepts of Statistical Studies
1
Introduction s Decision makers make better decisions when they use all available information in
an effective and meaningful way. The primary role of statistics is to to provide decision makers with
methods for obtaining and analyzing information to help make these decisions. Statistics is used to
answer long–range planning questions, such as when and where to locate facilities to handle future
sales.
2
Definition s Statistics is defined as the
science of collecting, organizing, presenting, analyzing and interpreting numerical data for the
purpose of assisting in making a more effective decision.

Alternatively, a numeric code could be used for the class standing variable (e.g. 1 denotes Freshman,
2 denotes Juniors and so on).
16
Scales of Measurement s Interval
The data have the properties of ordinal data, and the interval between observations is expressed in
terms of a fixed unit of measure. Interval data are always numeric.
17
Scales of Measurement s Interval
Example: Shruti has an MAT score of 605, while Raj has an MAT score of 655. Raj scored 50 points
more than Shruti.
18
Scales of Measurement s Ratio
The data have all the properties of interval data and the ratio of two values is meaningful. Variables
such as distance, height, weight, and time use the ratio scale. This scale must contain a zero value
that indicates that nothing exists for the variable at the zero point.
19
Scales of Measurement s Ratio
Example: Raj's college record shows 36 credit hours earned, while Kevin's record shows 72 credit
hours earned. Kevin has twice as many credit hours earned as Raj's.
20
Qualitative and Quantitative Data
Data can be further classified as being qualitative or quantitative. The statistical analysis that is
appropriate depends on whether the data for the variable are qualitative or quantitative. In general,
there are more alternatives for statistical analysis when the data are quantitative.

Outline and Assess the Usefulness of Official Statistics...
Outline and assess the usefulness of official statistics of crime to sociologists.
There are three main sources of information about the crimes for sociologists – the official crime
statistics, which are collected by the police and are presented as secondary data for sociologists;
victim survey such as British Crime Survey, which is also collected by the police and sponsored by
the government, and in order to collect primary data sociologists use self–report studies and its aim
is to uncover the true amount of crime in the society.
OCS are a source of secondary data, therefore it can be trusted as it has been verified before by other
researches and are accepted by some sociologists uncritically, for example functionalist sociologists
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also the representativeness is questioned because all crimes cannot be included in a questionnaire as
the researcher has to be selective, so as a result some people may have committed a crime, but they
can neither report it because of fear of being fined or put in jail nor because it is not included in the
questionnaire. This means that the number of crimes in statistics will be decreased, however it will
not represent the reality. In addition to this problem, mainly the youth are questioned as the BCS
2007 states that most of the crimes are committed by males aged from 15 to 25 and by females aged
from 13 to 19 in England and Wales, therefore the rest of the population is not included and the
concept of "white collar" crime is created, which is middle classed people not admitting their
crimes, therefore this information cannot be generalized among the population.
As separate pieces of the research, all of the methods have their own advantages, however there are
mainly disadvantages that make all of them either invalid or unreliable and nor representative.
However if all these methods were combined into one – a mixed method research, all the qualities of
the researches could have gone up, therefore it could have been even more useful to sociologists.

Qualitative Data Analysis Methods: Interview With a...
Qualitative data analysis Interview This is an interview between the respondent who is conducting a
qualitative research and a 20 year old white individual who is unemployed and hence lives the
lifestyle of the lower end in the society. The interviewer generally asks leading questions and notes
reactions or responses from the interviewee and also builds on the answers given by the respondent
to ask other questions that help him extract more information outside the structured leading
questions that he came along with. The method used in the data analysis is predominantly a realist
approach to the data that was assembled by the interviewee. This will involve the theorization of the
motivations behind the behaviors displayed/explained by the respondent, looking at the experiences
of the interviewee as well as getting the meaning from what the interviewer recorded down and not
inferring to the likely environments that would result in the actions of the respondent or the answers
that were derived from the interview. This approach treats the response from the respondents as a
reflection of the reality and truth on the ground and not a representation of another situation that
needs interpretation and decoding to understand (Frith & Hannah, 1997). Data analysis The entire
interview hinges on the understanding of the world view of the individual from his own standpoint
and not how he understands the world in relation to the other people in the region where he resides.

After entering the data, it must be reviewed to catch any errors. Cleaning the data is done with basic
steps. Of course the data is imported from the source, but there should always be some backup
involved in order to keep the integrity of the data. In some cases the next step would be
manipulation or spellchecking. This depends on what kind of data is involved. However, in this case
spell checking is not necessary, but manipulation is. For instance with manipulation, they may have
to add a column or two, or even add a zero randomly for missing data. Below is numbers 6–10 on

of classroom behavior and behavior management. Behavior management is such an important aspect
in this field that teachers often highlight the frustration of dealing with bad students and bad

As mentioned the focus of much of the current research is on identifying those factors that
individuals within education feel are most important to the successful implementation and
sustainment of an effective SWPBIS program. Factors that have been found through the various
research to be most important include administrator support, confidence in SWPBIS, and proper
application of data (Bambara, Goh, Kern, & Caskie, 2012; Mathews, McIntosh, Frank, & May,
2014; McIntosh, Predy, Upreti, Hume, Turri, & Mathews, 2014; McIntosh, Sterett, Hume, Frank,
Turri, & Mathews, 2013). Studies have hypothesized that these factors would be seen singled out as
having the biggest impacts. These beliefs tended to play out within the results of the studies.
Administrative support in the form of a strong school principle and staff buy in were seen to be
instrumental in the implementation of a solid program by the educators who agreed to be surveyed
(McIntosh, et al., 2014). The findings showing that school personnel believe that having a strong
school principle who provides for and supports the use of SWPBIS tends to make sense when

Qualitative Data Collection And Analysis
This interview has revealed a deep connection (H) has with this program, students, and teacher. It
has also described the successfulness this tutoring program has become for students participants as
well as the success the teacher has in her classroom. In order to reach conclusions regarding the
successfulness of the program and the attitude of (H) regarding the program, data from the interview
must be collected and analyzed appropriately. Qualitative data collection and analysis is appropriate
for an interview because it is not using numerical data but instead descriptive narrative and visual
information. Interviews allow the researcher to get more information about the study that
observation alone will not achieve. Gay & Mills (2016) suggested, "Interviews provide information
that is inaccessible through observation" (p. 550). During the interview, the researcher must take
notes and/or record the verbal interaction taking place between the interviewer and interviewee. If
the interview is recorded, one must have it transcribed in order to properly and easily collect
important data necessary to the research. As part of qualitative data collection and analysis, it is
important to identify themes and code pieces of data from the interview transcript. After
highlighting and making notes from the interview transcript I noticed several different themes

Qualitative Analysis : Qualitative Data
Qualitative
Qualitative data is an open universe, as it includes virtually any non–numerical data that can be
captured and revolves around collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data that are difficult to reduce
utilizing numerical methods. Qualitative data permit the exploration of every possible scenario in a
given situation which is highly suitable when assessing the contributory impact of the social
environment within the business world. By pursuing a qualitative approach, the data collected can
be measured based on a philosophical (Phenomenology) perspective, Ethnographic, Field Research,
Grounded Theory or Case Study.
Advantages of Qualitative Data
Real time non–restrictive questions during interviews can be guided and redirected by the
researcher.
Complexities about the research subjects or topics are discovered that escapes numerical
measurements.
Data obtained based on sociological experience is expansive and oftentimes more attractive than
quantitative data.
Revising the research framework including the direction can be done quickly should new
information emerges.
Issues can be examined in detail and in depth not afforded with a quantitative method
The rich in depth narrative permitted in qualitative data makes it a very attractive method for
conducting research. The broad thematic concerns researchers are able to address will allow aspects

Fischer, C, T,. Rennie, D, L,. 1999). Elliot et al. (1999) were such researchers, who were successful
in creating seven key guidelines that can be utilised in any qualitative research. These guidelines are
as follows, owning one's perspective, situating the sample, grounding in examples, providing
credibility checks, coherence, accomplishing general versus specific research tasks and resonating

evaluation. Attention will also be paid to how these guidelines can be applied to IPA analysis.
Main Body
The article, Understanding feelings of anger using IPA (Smith & Eatough, 2006), has two key focus
areas. Firstly is the use of IPA. Secondly is the understanding and interpretation of anger as
experienced by the individual. Throughout the article, each section explains how the method, IPA is
utilised. The purpose of the article is "to illuminate how ..., anger, emotion–related feelings,
thoughts and expressions appear to the individual" (Smith & Eatough, 2006). They argued that
emotions are more often than not, world– focused and proposed that a holistic approach was
required to fully understand this phenomenon. This was studied as a single sample, case study. Data

Qualitative Research and Data Analysis
2.1.6 Data analysis
In qualitative research, data analysis is a process of making meaning where the researcher has to
actively create meaning out of the raw materials (Esterberg, Kristin G., 2002). The process of
making meaning out of qualitative data is often iterative, meaning that there is a repetitive interplay
between the collection and analysis of data (Bryman and Bell, 2007).
Altogether 5 interviews were conducted with the tour operators in Denmark that are selling travel
packages to Nepal. Firstly, interview was conducted with Kipling travels (31ST March, 2014) and
then interviews were made with Dagama travels (2nd April, 2014), FDM travels (2nd April, 2014),
Albatros–travels (24th April, 2014) and lastly C&C travels (29th April, 2014). All of the interviews
were conducted on different days except interviews with Dagama travels and FDM travels. The
findings from the first interview were also used to ask questions in the following interviews and
there was constant interplay between the data analysis of the previous interview and the data
collection from the next interview. In this way, information gained from the first interview and the
subsequent interviews were used, to ask questions, in the interviews done later on. Figure 7:

Qualitative Data Analysis Paper
Hi Sarah, Thank you for sharing your knowledge about statistical information and how that helped
you make a decision on what tests you can use for a patient's problem. To be honest with you, I find
it difficult to understand statistical information and quantitative data. So, I'll be focusing on the
research that I found about qualitative data for two tests that we commonly use in our facility. Since
I work with children, we use the PDMS–2 and BOT–2 for assessing gross motor and fine motor
skills. I read an article by Hands, Licari, & Piek (2015) where they reviewed five tests for motor
skills and it was concluded that there is "no gold standard" for adolescents and young adults to
"diagnose motor impairments". However, it was indicated that

A Research Study On The Field Of Psychology
The field of psychology is truly fascinating, as the discovery of new and remarkable ideas arise with
every question a researcher chooses to explore. Where questions can develop into a research study,
which can either solidify, contribute, support, inspire, or provide answers in the field of psychology.
In a sense, research is a trial and error approach as researchers are not always cognizant of the
results that a study will provide. However, with sufficient knowledge the researcher can conduct a
study, with less error, should the researcher be aware of a few simple ingredients.
First, as simple as it sounds, knowing whether if a question is sufficient is a good place to start.
Once that has been determined, then the researcher can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In conclusion, this writer will be discussing how the statistical model created in outline form can be
useful, its limitations, along with what this writer learned in the process of creating a unique
statistical model of this writer's liking and understanding.
Decision's Model in Outline Form Is your question adequate and sufficient? This is determined by
figuring out whether if you have put enough thought into your question, if only you can answer the
following 4 questions (Sukal, 2013).
(1). What is your overarching research question? (Sukal, 2013)
Note: According to Sukal (2013), this can be determined by figuring out whether if there are
keywords within the question, such as "effects" to refer to cause and effect (Sukal, 2013). The word
"association", indicates figuring out if there is a relationship amongst the variables (Sukal, 2013).
The word "prediction" can signify regression (Sukal, 2013).
(2). How many Independent Variables (IV), Dependent Variables (DV), and covariate variables are
in the study? (Sukal, 2013).
Note: The dependent variable is thought of as the criterion or consequence variable, while
independent variable is thought to be the predictor or the variable that brings out an effect on the
dependent variable (Sukal, 2013). Further, a variable is something a person plans to observe,
manipulate, test, record, or evaluate

The Barb Case: A Flawless Work Performance
The "Barb" case is a great instance of a flawless work "performance," when a simple act is tuned to
a memorable experience for every customer. First, Bard was able to acquire all information possible
from the only available source she had on her hands – a student meal cards; by having that little data
she managed to turn a few seconds interaction into a very personalized experience for every student.
Secondly, she was able to turn a uniform "experience," every student unavoidably encounters while
entering a dorm's cafeteria, to a unique and memorable event. By greeting each entered person with
his/her name, asking about their previous absence or providing some information Barb emphasized
the personal value of every student. Thirdly, Barb showed

The Decision Between Quantitative And Qualitative Data
One of the most important parts of establishing a research design involves the decision between
quantitative and qualitative data. Each has its own strength and weaknesses that any successful
research design must account for. Perhaps one of the easiest distinctions between the two rests in the
sample size. While quantitative data normally involves a large n, or sample size, qualitative data
involves a much smaller sample size in comparison. This smaller sample size allows qualitative
researchers to focus more on each case, increasing the internal validity of the research, but limiting
its external validity. Quantitative based research designs reverse this. The large sample size of
quantitative data often makes it difficult for researches to establish causation among the independent
and dependent variable(s). The external validly of such designs usually offsets this issue to some
extent. Due to their large nature, and use of numerical data, quantitative research is much more
replicable when compared to their qualitative counterparts. Unfortunately, the struggle between
internal and external validity is a fundamental part of research. Even efforts to combine the two
methods to form a 'mixed methods research design' ultimately fail to nullify the issue completely.
Keeping this in mind, a quantitative analysis is the most logical given the specific research question
and the data available. This chapter seeks to prove that there is a statistically significant difference in

Qualitative Data Collection Methods Paper
Qualitative data collection method is the method I would use to answer my research question: How
does text messaging effect teen literacy? I would choose this method over quantitative because
qualitative methods are lead with first–hand observations for a wide range of behaviors. The
hypothesis is broad and looks to describe the entire picture. It helps us to understand the world we
live in and explains why things are the way they are. This type of research is primary gathering
information for the early stages of a question. One of the major reasons for doing qualitative
research is to become more experienced with the phenomenon you are interested in.
Qualitative data collections are particularly helpful when the event is not of importance, but rather
how the event may influence a sequence of other actions. Describing the complicated phenomena is
not the goal of a qualitative research, but rather to distinguish ideas as to why and how a specific
phenomenon operates as it does in a precise situation.
Qualitative research involves capturing the complexity of behavior that occurs in natural settings
while the opposite goal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

study, I will us the use direct interaction with individuals on a one to one basis. Even though
collecting qualitative data is more time consuming than quantitative due to the use of smaller
groups, the benefits are that the information collected gives a more profound insight into the
phenomenon under study. I would not only conduct individual interviews but perform some

Insider Threat Analysis
Insider Threat Analysis In many insider crimes, managers and other coworkers observed that the
offenders had exhibited signs of stress, disgruntlement, or other issues, but no alarms were raised.
Barriers to using such psychosocial indicators include the inability to recognize the signs and the
failure to record the behaviors so that they can be assessed. A psychosocial model was developed to
assess an employee' s behavior associated with an increased risk of insider abuse. The model is
based on case studies and research literature on factors/correlates associated with precursor
behavioral manifestations of individuals committing insider crimes. To test the model's agreement
with human resources and management professionals, we conducted an experiment with positive
results. If implemented in an operational setting, the model would be part of a set of management
tools for employee assessment to identify employees who pose a greater insider threat. The insider
threat refers to harmful acts that trusted individuals might carry out; for example, something that
causes harm to the organization, or an unauthorized act that benefits the individual. The insider
threat is manifested when human behaviors depart from established policies, regardless of whether it
results from malice or disregard for security policies. The most serious crimes and abuses include
espionage, sabotage, terrorism, embezzlement, extortion, bribery, and corruption.

Quantitative And Qualitative And Quantitative Data
Qualitative and Quantitative The manager needs qualitative and quantitative data to help with
different jobs in the business. Qualitative data helps with the cashiers and counter staff's jobs while
quantitative data helps the manager with ordering new products and perishable food from the
wholesale. The two types of data that helps a manager to make decisions within his business are
called qualitative and quantitative data. Qualitative and quantitative data can come from internal and
external sources within the business. Qualitative data involves the quality of the products and sever

comes from observations, surveys, and focus groups. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This spreadsheet can help the cashier to choose the correct price and amount of products, then
giving the customer their receipt of their order which is classed as a primary source as the
information and data comes from the customer. The spreadsheet also help the manager to decide
what ingredients and non–perishable food needs to be ordered from the wholesale. The spreadsheet
shows the quantity of what items have been sold and the quantity left helping the manager to decide
what needs to be ordered. Qualitative data is also produced from feedback from the customers,
classed as a primary source, which is produced from questionnaires that could be handed out to
customers about the sandwich bar or menus. This help the manager decide what to make changes to
in the menu or sandwich bar by analysing their surveys and questionnaires to make a judgement of
what changes need to be made and what factors work well in the business. The human resources

Mixed Methods Of Quantitative And Qualitative Data
Mixed methods approach was implemented deliberately to gain quantitative and qualitative data.
The integration of quantitative and qualitative data maximizes the strengths and minimizes the
weaknesses of each type of data to ensure validity and reliability. The two forms of data collection
were interviews and questionnaires. Mixed methods was chosen to gain better insight into the issue.
This will help to compare, validate or triangulate results and in doing so may help to identify trends
and outcomes, Plano Clark, (2010). Mixed methods research, is more than collecting qualitative data
from interviews, or collecting multiple forms of qualitative evidence (e.g., observations and

The next stage of the process was to structure the order and flow of answerability. The aim of this
journal is to assess attitudes of senior rugby players with regards to safety and performance during
the tackle, therefore the researcher thought close ended questions would be most appropriate.
Hendricks et al states ''Closed ended questions provide respondents with pre specified set of answers
(items) and response categories,'' (p.267). This in fact makes answering of the questionnaire less
demanding for the subjects involved. Each question consisted of the question, and response
categories.
A 5 point Likert scale was used to enable the researcher to measure the significance, frequency and
size of each item. For measuring players attitude, subjects involved had to rate the significance of
each question on the following scale: (1) not at all important, (2) not too important, (3) undecided,
(4) somewhat important, (5) very important, ( Hendricks et al, 2011). To assess occurrence of
training and training behaviour the following was used, (1) never, (2) rarely, (3) sometimes, (4)
frequently, (5) always.
The finalised questionnaire enclosed 10 questions. The questionnaire consisted of 9 attitudinal
questions based on their (players) opinions on tackling technique and methods used, with the
exception of question 1 (how many times to you train in the week). Within this questionnaire players

The Importance Of Qualitative And Quantitative Data
Research tries to discover new evidence to identify facts to study and reach new results. Research
plays a major role in the society and it engages in discoveries, intelligence, and data collection. It
works to find out and understand how things behave and operate. (Allan, H. 1964) In Health and
Social Care research is essential because it allows new discoveries to be made and allows
complicated problems to be solved to help improve and better the setting.
A wide variety of different methods are used to acquire information or data. Some of these data can
be classified into Quantitative and Qualitative data.
Quantitative data refers to the compilation of information statistically. Normally, these data are
collected numerically and are generally tested and verified with social surveys, case studies and
experiments, unlike interpretivists, positivists have a preference to use quantitative data. August
Comte, the founder of positivists, described positivism as a sociology of science and discovered true
knowledge through mathematical testing. (Landow, G. 2013)
According to the research process, quantitative data is useful since it allows researchers to analyse
and measure data. Quantitative data's disadvantage is, it does not study things in natural
environments or the significant issues of things to different people, while qualitative data is more
comprehensive and valuable to data due to their written information or witnesses. (Cheal, D. 2002)

"The analysis of qualitative and quantitative data of your website and your competition to drive
continuous improvement about your digital presence your customer needs and prospects which
translates into fabulous desired outcomes both online and offline for your business that's more of
formal definition of web analytics." – Avinash Kaushik Author, Digital Marketing Evangelist
Web analytics is not about just logging into google analytics, Facebook insights, adobe web trends
or IBM and analyzing all the quantitative data you have related to the clicks and that is a big
component of analytics all about. But it's also about answering question about why people do what
they do and that's what sort of qualitative analysis around surveys, usability tests and those things
come into equation where the cool thing about the web is not only that you can analyze your own
performance. You can actually analyze how your competitors are doing.
If you are competing with somebody on the web, you can go and get their data and understand how
they are successful or not and learn lessons what they are doing and go figure out how to change
your strategy in turn. In short, if I summarize few points to define web analytics:
Qualitative and Quantitative Analytics
Web Analytics is about qualitative as well as quantitative data

Qualitative Data Evaluation
To analyze the results of evaluation, the evaluators will undertake a robust analysis to identify
whether or not there are any differences in patient characteristics and treatments provided by the six
Victorian hospitals to Aboriginal people and non–Aboriginal people. The qualitative data will be
transcribed and analyzed by using NVivo software based on the evaluation frameworks. Whereas
the quantitative data would be assessed by using SPSS in order to measure the impacts of the policy
directions, funding, workforce competencies and performance to facilitate the change in service
delivery. To strengthen the validity of findings, we also conduct triangulation that will help to
compare the qualitative data based on the opinion of key stakeholders and quantitative data from
any sources. After completing data analysis, we will conduct a consultation with key stakeholders to
discuss the preliminary findings, to establish any conclusions, and then to identify a possible
improvement for strengthening the evidence. To eliminate the possible bias in justifying a
conclusion, we will conduct some reflection by involving Aboriginal people.

Hcs/325 Week 2 Qualitative Analysis Of Data
To collect data for check sheet you have to determine what event or issue will be examined and then
you will create operational definitions. Then we will determine when the data will be collected and
gathered and for how long. From here, we will create the form and the form will be laid out to where
the data can be recorded easily by making check or tally marks. All the spaces should be labeled on
the form. The check sheet should then be tested for a brief trial period just to make sure it gathers
the correct data and is easy to access and utilize. Whenever the targeted event or issue takes place,
the data should be entered in on the check sheet (Check Sheet, n.d.). To collect data for a scatter
plot, the healthcare organization will need to have at least 50–100 paired samples of data that is
associated with the scatter plot. The data can be placed into a spreadsheet and then you can plot the
data points on the diagram. The spreadsheet can be developed in a MS Excel file then we can use

Qualitative Data Collection Paper
Qualitative Data Collection Within a quantitative study, the research is completed to seek some type
of verification, but within a qualitative study the research is completed to seek a deeper
understanding (Capella University, 2017c). For instance, Hoelscher et al. (2016) used a survey
method to verify how the students commuted to school, and they received weather reports for
specific dates and locations for data collection. In contrast, if Hoelscher et al. (2016) study was
conducted using qualitative methodology, it would be designed as a multiple–case study design. A
multiple case study design is an evaluation of multiple systems that are studied and compared to one
another over time (Capella University, 2017b). The multiple cases being ... Show more content on

Interviews and focus groups would be conducted to gain a deeper understanding of the effects of the
grants. They would be conducted with the school staff, the funders, and the participants of the study.
Observations in the field would include seeing how the students commuted to school and how the
new building structures or implemented plans were influencing their commute. Lastly, a review of
documentation and reports that shows the efforts being made with the grants and how it is helping
and ensuring protection/safety of the participants involved.
Ethical Concerns The main ethical challenge that is presented in this study if changed from a
quantitative to a qualitative research design is the respect and protection of the participants. The
studies focus is on ensuring safety for the students as they commute to school. The study begins
with the students being as young as 9 years old. That may cause a problem when conducting a
qualitative study over a course of three years. Qualitative study collects non–numerical data through
words and narratives, therefore, it is important to ensure that protective actions are in place to
address this ethical concern.

Measurement in Analysis can take on many forms, but in this case, these come in the form of
questionnaires. A questionnaire when not done correctly may not be able to obtain the information in
which the corporation may be seeking. There are in general four categories that these fall into.
Categorically, these include Nominal, Ordinal, Interval and Ratio Numbers. The essential goal of
this author is to explain to the utmost of authority of how these fit into questionnaires.
Attitude can play a part in the variables that make up these types of scales: from Nominal to Ratio.

The question is simply whether each object has more or less of this variable. When scaled, there will
be no information as to how much difference between objects (Aakar, Kumar and Day, 2007). Due
to lack of difference between objects, the basic arithmetic operations are limited to statistics such as
the median or mode (this does not include the mean) (Aakar, Kudler and Day, 2007). One example
would be to obtain the information sample of 1,000 surveyed consumers who ranked five brands of
auto manufacturer preferred based on quality assumption. The questionnaire may look similar as
ranked from Highest to Lowest with Second, Third, and Fourth all between (Aakar, Kudler and Day,
2007). Where the Second quality will be categorized as the 'mode', the Third category is the 'median'
. There will no means of categorizing a general 'mean' because the differences in between ordinal
scaled values are not necessarily the same (Aakar, Kudler and Day, 2007). Another example of this
type of scale could be found in racing: dog, horse or car, that is they are found in a class standing
(Aakar, Kudler and Day, 2007).
Interval–
The Interval scale represents the numbers used to rank objects which also represent equal
increments of the attribute being measured. In more discrete terms, it simply means differences can
be compared. The difference between 1 and 2 is the same as that found between 2 and 3,

Information Retention And The Level Of Retention Essay
4.1 QUANTITATIVE DATA
Total participants: n = 14
Undergraduate students in the Clayton Campus n = 14
14 students in total from the Clayton Campus responded to the online survey, ranging from
Undergraduate degrees such as Arts/Business/Science/Bio–Medicine and Commerce.
Level of distraction and information retention
Figure 1: Undergraduate's response to distraction
Figure 2: Undergraduate's response to the level of retention It was surprising and unexpected to see
that although the students may be distracted by their own music, their level of retention is
reasonably high, with the majority of the students remembering between 60 to 80 percent of the
information that they have processed. Factors that may have influenced this outcome could be
alluded to the fact that once the students have created a calm and accustomed studying atmosphere,
that they can properly engage in it and retain such a high level of information.
Studying with and without music
Figure 3: Whether or not the participant has studied for a long period of time without music Figure
4: Whether or not the participant feels more productive when studying with music With allusion to
the previous set of questions (Figures 1 & 2), slightly more than half of the students have answered
that they have felt more productive when studying with music, which may reinforce the high
retention rate. This may be the contributing factor via the creation of a comfortable environment,
thus making it easier for the student to

The participants are the only ones who can legitimately judge the credibility of the results. In
addition to creditability, transferability is also an imperative part of qualitative research.
Transferability refers to the degree in which the results of qualitative research can be generalized or
transferred to other contexts or settings (Trochim, 2006). From a qualitative perspective
transferability is primarily the responsibility of the one doing the generalizing. In this case, some of
the implications can be transferred to another setting such as a university setting. Since this study is
taking place in elementary school setting as well as secondary school setting, it could easily be
transferred to a university setting with some alterations.
Another perspective regarding qualitative research is confirmability. Confirmability refers to the
degree to which the results could be confirmed by others (Trochim, 2006). Qualitative research
tends to assume that each researcher brings a unique perspective to the study. By applying each of
these concepts to the study, the researcher is able to provide a credible, valid, transferable study.
Next, I will discuss the qualitative methods of data collection that this study will exploit. Qualitative

Q
ualitative researchers typically rely on four methods for gathering information: (a) participating in
the setting, (b) observing directly,
(c) interviewing in depth, and (d) analyzing documents and material culture. These form the core of
their inquiry–the staples of the diet. Several secondary and specialized methods of data collection
supplement them. This chapter provides a brief discussion of the primary and the secondary methods
to be considered in designing a qualitative study.

In this way, the researcher is able to discover the recurring patterns of behavior and relationships.
After these patterns are identified and described through early analysis of field notes, checklists
become more appropriate and context–sensitive. Focused observation then is used at later stages of
the study, usually to see, for example, if analytic themes explain behavior and relationships over a
long time or in a variety of settings. Observation is a fundamental and highly important method in
all qualitative inquiry. It is used to discover complex interactions in natural social settings. Even in
studies using in–depth interviews, observation plays an important role as the researcher notes the
interviewee's body language and affect in addition to her words. It is, however, a method that
requires a great deal of the researcher. Discomfort, uncomfortable ethical dilemmas and even
danger, the difficulty of managing a relatively unobtrusive role, and the challenge of identifying the
big picture while finely observing huge amounts of fast–moving and complex behavior are just a
few of the challenges.
Whether a researcher is simply observing from afar or finding a participant–observer role in the
setting, some contexts may present dangers. Street ethnography is a term that describes research
settings which can be dangerous, either physically or emotionally, such as working with the police
(as Manning did, described in

Secondary Analysis Of Qualitative Data

  • 1. Secondary Analysis of Qualitative Data This essay aims to examine the practice of secondary analysis on qualitative data in terms of barriers to overcome and advantages of its practice. Over the last decades, archives of qualitative data have become widely accessible to research–es and there has been a smaller revolution in the practice of secondary analysis on such data. (Seale, 2004) There are both practical and methodological ad– vantages for researchers to use data that has been collected by others in order to pursue new research. However, this approach is not unproblematic. One of the most prominent features of qualitative research is its emphasis on contextual understanding and data– generating process between the researcher and partici–pants, which is to some extent lost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, a qualitative re–searcher may implement grounded theory method, which implies that the pur–pose and question evolves throughout the project. Such practice is very sensitive to contextual influences and the specific methods and perspectives employed by the researcher. (Vromen, 2010) Consequently, the emphasis on the role of the researcher and the context within qualitative research creates a barrier to practising secondary analysis. Entering a data set as a secondary researcher has three broad implications in terms of con–text. First, the dynamic environment of researching participants through rela–tionships and reflexivity is lost. The data is now static in the sense that it is al–ready shaped and collected by the primary research and you cannot engage with the participants anymore. Second, which follows from the first, is that all the choices of methods of collection has already been done and cannot be undone. Decisions around units, cases and sampling for the primary research cannot be changed. Third, it is impossible for the primary researcher to grasp all contexts and influences in which the research is pursued and then translate them into the data. There will be information that is left out in the primary data due to both selectivity and inability, which becomes a problem of not knowing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Qualitative Data Collection Application of appropriate data collection method is important to avoid invalid evaluation results after implementation. As the data collection method plays an important role in impacting evaluation, a qualitative data collection method was chosen for this particular study. It is because; qualitative data provides useful information to understand the process behind the observed process and also helps in understanding nurses and patients perception towards the change management. Qualitative data will also help in generating evaluation hypothesis by strengthening the survey questionnaire and other evaluation findings (University of Wisconsin, n.d). In addition to this, as the evaluation method includes interview, observation and documentation, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... G. (2013, February 11). • 5. Different Schools Within Two Separate School Districts Research Sites The proposed research study will take place in two schools within two separate school districts in Tennessee. In order to protect the identity of the research sites, pseudonyms have been used to reference the names of the two schools selected for the study. Fairfax Elementary (School A) is a Title I school in a suburban area of northeast Tennessee. This school is considered a turn–around school, having earned Blue Ribbon status in 2009, and was awarded National Title I Distinguished School in 2010. Though Fairfax Elementary has existed for forty years, the new facility was built on its original site in 2010. Fairfax Elementary serves a racially and economically diverse population consisting of 566 Pre–K through fourth–grade students. The breakdown of the population is as follows: 63.2% Economically Disadvantaged; 15% Disabilities; 71% Caucasian; 17.5% Black, 8.6% Hispanic; and 2.2% Asian. The school's leadership team consists of one principal and one part–time assistant principal. There are twenty–six regular, classroom teachers and nine additional special area teachers serving Fairfax's diverse, Title I population of Pre–K through fourth grade students. Mountain Ridge Elementary (School B) is a rural school in the most northeast area of Tennessee. This high achieving school was awarded Blue Ribbon status in 2008. Mountain Ridge serves 450 students across Pre–K through sixth grades. The school profile is as follows: 67% Economically Disadvantaged; 16% ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. An Interview With Andrea Williams, Principal Of Elena... Using Strategic Planning This information was gathered in an interview with Andrea Williams, Principal of Theresa Bunker Elementary. In the past three years that Mrs. Williams has been principal of this school she has brought a strong focus onto using data to make appropriate instructional decisions as well as execute strategic planning to help the school progress. The implementation of the PLC process has helped the teachers to gain an understanding of how valuable data collection and analysis can be for their teaching practice. Looking at data also helps the school attain the yearly goals laid out by the district's strategic plan. One of the first steps taken in developing a strategic plan for the school is to gather and analyze data in order to find the school's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities for growth as well as any threats to the progress of the school. Early in the year the strategic planning team will review quantitative data collected from student achievement scores, attendance rates, discipline trends, financial records, transportation reports, and so forth. Depending upon the specific issue addressed in the planning process, these types of quantitative data serve to inform decision–making processes. The collection of qualitative data is also an integral part of best practices in development of a strategic plan. Qualitative data collection includes use of surveys, focus groups, and interviews with key stakeholder groups. It is important and useful to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Types Of Quantitative Data Collection And Five Types For... Data Analysis As noted in Table 1, there were four types of quantitative data collection and five types for qualitative data. Quantitative. The quantitative data from the population–sourcing databases was used to define the demographics and subgroups being studied. The PCA performed on the teacher questionnaires resulted in a list of effective teaching factors, which was divided by the subgroup and demographic data, though this list was not included in the study. The PCA results from the student surveys created another list of effective teaching factors, which were viewed as indicators of environment in the school and classroom. This data was then included in the mixed method analysis. The student survey analysis also resulted in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Qualitative. Most of the qualitative data (i.e., observations and interviews) was entered into SPSS and coded using the NVivo software tool. For the interviews, the NVivo tool allowed researchers to perform PCA and identify themes and dimensions which the researchers stated they used for further investigation and analysis. For the observations, the ISTOF and QoT data was reduced using a factor analysis and a confirmatory factor analysis, then the results between the two tools were compared to identify the main factors of effective teaching. The article does not specify how data from the focus groups was captured, analyzed or utilized in the interpretation. Mixed method. The researchers used the combined ISTOF and QoT results to run a correlation analysis with the indicators identified from the student surveys. The article included a table listing the resulting six factors and the correlated indicators. This same table included three other statistical analyses as well, though the article did not explicitly state why these particular analyses were used nor interpret the meaning of these results. The NVivo tool allowed the researchers to combine analyses from the different data sets gathered, while also providing the ability to separate the results by various groupings such as the socioeconomic status of a school, teacher gender, ... • 11. What Is College Readiness? Introduction What is college readiness? When we say the word "college readiness "it means a lot of things to a lot of different people. In the state of Nevada, the definition of college readiness is "the pupil who graduates from high school demonstrates the foundational knowledge, skills, and qualities to succeed, without remediation, in workforce training, certification, and degree programs" (Crystal Abba, 2013, p. 3). I believe that content knowledge, key cognitive skills and foundational skills are very important and helps students at college level courses. Students arrive at colleges ready with different level of readiness. Peer tutoring is one the effective way help students to gain foundational and cognitive skills in a high school. Part 1: Research Report Research Purpose The purpose of the study is to reveal if peer tutoring by same age will improve the percent of students who met the ACT College Readiness Benchmark Scores. In Nevada, to be eligible to graduate from high school, all students must take Nevada's College and Career Readiness (CCR) assessment in their high school junior year. All students in junior year must participate in the ACT CCR assessment to complete high school graduation requirement. • 13. Collecting Qualitative Data Paper PART 1 Collecting Qualitative Data Research truly is essential to the success of any marketing campaign or process and can greatly contribute to the success of a product, service or brand in the marketplace. Market research can help to determine risks and opportunities within the market, and can provide a greater depth of understanding of consumers and the target audience. Market research helps to define and solve research 'problems' and this is extremely beneficial to any business or organisation (Burns & Bush, 2003). By having consumer insight because of market research, marketers are able to promote a product to the true relevant target market, rather than wasting time and money promoting to the whole marketplace. There are two main methods of market research, being qualitative research and quantitative research. Both of these methods have benefits and can be used in conjunction, but for the best results one method of data collection is often used. Quantitative data focuses on a numerical approach to data collection via the use of statistics and information taken from surveys and census data. Qualitative data however focuses on gathering information and exploratory research through observations and interviews. The main approaches to collecting this type of data are experience or expert surveys, focus groups, and in–depth interviews (Diekroger, 2014). FOCUS GROUPS A focus group is a small group of people brought together and guided by a moderator through an unstructured, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Qualitative Data: Research and Collection Qualitative Data I. Management and Organization of Qualitative Research Data Qualitative research data is interpretive and descriptive and because of the nature of qualitative research data, the best forms of organization and management of the data is coding or grouping the data when looking for patterns in the research findings. Five steps to good data management are reported to include those stated as follows: (1) Choose and follow a clear file naming system; (2) Develop a data tracking system; (3) Establish and document transcription/translation procedures; (4) Establish quality control procedures; and (5) Establish a Realistic Timeline. (John Hopkins Bloomberg, School of Public Health, 2008, p.2) It is necessary to allot a certain amount of time to each task in a qualitative study in order to be organized. For example time should be allowed for: (1) Traveling to the site and locating a participant (2) Gaining consent to and conducting an interview (3) Downloading and preparing a file (4) Transcribing the file (5) Translating the file (6) Coding the file (7) Conducting quality control, and (8) For making any corrections that are needed. (John Hopkins Bloomberg, School of Public Health, 2008, p.10) II. Qualitative Data Collection and Saturation of the Data Qualitative data analysis is reported to reach a point that is referred to as "saturation" which is stated to signal that the study is complete and that there is "a judgment of diminishing returns ... • 17. Qualitative Research Is Good At Simplifying And Managing... Qualitative research is good at simplifying and managing data without destroying complexity and context. Qualitative methods are highly appropriate for questions where preemptive reduction of the data will prevent discovery. If the purpose is to learn from the participants in a setting or a process the way they experience it, the meanings they put on it, and how they interpret what they experience, the researcher needs methods that will allow for discovery and do justice to their perceptions and the complexity of their interpretations. Qualitative methods have in common the goal of generating new ways of seeing existing data. If the purpose is to construct a theory or a theoretical framework that reflects reality rather than the researchers own perspective or prior research results, one may need methods that assist the discovery of theory in data. If the purpose is to understand phenomena deeply and in detail, the researcher needs methods for discovery of central themes and analysis of core concerns. Each of these suggestions has a flip side. If one knows what is being hypothesized and what they are likely to find, if one do not need to know the complexity of others' understandings, if one is testing prior theory rather than constructing new frameworks, or if one is simply describing a situation rather than deeply analyzing it, it is possible that one should not be working qualitatively. Perhaps the research question that one is tackling with in–depth interviews would be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are three main sources of information about the crimes for sociologists – the official crime statistics, which are collected by the police and are presented as secondary data for sociologists; victim survey such as British Crime Survey, which is also collected by the police and sponsored by the government, and in order to collect primary data sociologists use self–report studies and its aim is to uncover the true amount of crime in the society. OCS are a source of secondary data, therefore it can be trusted as it has been verified before by other researches and are accepted by some sociologists uncritically, for example functionalist sociologists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also the representativeness is questioned because all crimes cannot be included in a questionnaire as the researcher has to be selective, so as a result some people may have committed a crime, but they can neither report it because of fear of being fined or put in jail nor because it is not included in the questionnaire. This means that the number of crimes in statistics will be decreased, however it will not represent the reality. In addition to this problem, mainly the youth are questioned as the BCS 2007 states that most of the crimes are committed by males aged from 15 to 25 and by females aged from 13 to 19 in England and Wales, therefore the rest of the population is not included and the concept of "white collar" crime is created, which is middle classed people not admitting their crimes, therefore this information cannot be generalized among the population. As separate pieces of the research, all of the methods have their own advantages, however there are mainly disadvantages that make all of them either invalid or unreliable and nor representative. However if all these methods were combined into one – a mixed method research, all the qualities of the researches could have gone up, therefore it could have been even more useful to sociologists. Qualitative data analysis Interview This is an interview between the respondent who is conducting a qualitative research and a 20 year old white individual who is unemployed and hence lives the lifestyle of the lower end in the society. The interviewer generally asks leading questions and notes reactions or responses from the interviewee and also builds on the answers given by the respondent to ask other questions that help him extract more information outside the structured leading questions that he came along with. The method used in the data analysis is predominantly a realist approach to the data that was assembled by the interviewee. This will involve the theorization of the motivations behind the behaviors displayed/explained by the respondent, looking at the experiences of the interviewee as well as getting the meaning from what the interviewer recorded down and not inferring to the likely environments that would result in the actions of the respondent or the answers that were derived from the interview. This approach treats the response from the respondents as a reflection of the reality and truth on the ground and not a representation of another situation that needs interpretation and decoding to understand (Frith & Hannah, 1997). Data analysis The entire interview hinges on the understanding of the world view of the individual from his own standpoint and not how he understands the world in relation to the other people in the region where he resides. It has also described the successfulness this tutoring program has become for students participants as well as the success the teacher has in her classroom. In order to reach conclusions regarding the successfulness of the program and the attitude of (H) regarding the program, data from the interview must be collected and analyzed appropriately. Qualitative data collection and analysis is appropriate for an interview because it is not using numerical data but instead descriptive narrative and visual information. Interviews allow the researcher to get more information about the study that observation alone will not achieve. Gay & Mills (2016) suggested, "Interviews provide information that is inaccessible through observation" (p. 550). During the interview, the researcher must take notes and/or record the verbal interaction taking place between the interviewer and interviewee. If the interview is recorded, one must have it transcribed in order to properly and easily collect important data necessary to the research. Qualitative Analysis : Qualitative Data Qualitative Qualitative data is an open universe, as it includes virtually any non–numerical data that can be captured and revolves around collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data that are difficult to reduce utilizing numerical methods. Qualitative data permit the exploration of every possible scenario in a given situation which is highly suitable when assessing the contributory impact of the social environment within the business world. By pursuing a qualitative approach, the data collected can be measured based on a philosophical (Phenomenology) perspective, Ethnographic, Field Research, Grounded Theory or Case Study. Advantages of Qualitative Data Real time non–restrictive questions during interviews can be guided and redirected by the researcher. Complexities about the research subjects or topics are discovered that escapes numerical measurements. Data obtained based on sociological experience is expansive and oftentimes more attractive than quantitative data. Revising the research framework including the direction can be done quickly should new information emerges. Issues can be examined in detail and in depth not afforded with a quantitative method The rich in depth narrative permitted in qualitative data makes it a very attractive method for conducting research. Qualitative Research and Data Analysis 2.1.6 Data analysis In qualitative research, data analysis is a process of making meaning where the researcher has to actively create meaning out of the raw materials (Esterberg, Kristin G., 2002). The process of making meaning out of qualitative data is often iterative, meaning that there is a repetitive interplay between the collection and analysis of data (Bryman and Bell, 2007). Altogether 5 interviews were conducted with the tour operators in Denmark that are selling travel packages to Nepal. Firstly, interview was conducted with Kipling travels (31ST March, 2014) and then interviews were made with Dagama travels (2nd April, 2014), FDM travels (2nd April, 2014), Albatros–travels (24th April, 2014) and lastly C&C travels (29th April, 2014). All of the interviews were conducted on different days except interviews with Dagama travels and FDM travels. The findings from the first interview were also used to ask questions in the following interviews and there was constant interplay between the data analysis of the previous interview and the data collection from the next interview. In this way, information gained from the first interview and the subsequent interviews were used, to ask questions, in the interviews done later on. • 52. The Decision Between Quantitative And Qualitative Data One of the most important parts of establishing a research design involves the decision between quantitative and qualitative data. Each has its own strength and weaknesses that any successful research design must account for. Perhaps one of the easiest distinctions between the two rests in the sample size. While quantitative data normally involves a large n, or sample size, qualitative data involves a much smaller sample size in comparison. This smaller sample size allows qualitative researchers to focus more on each case, increasing the internal validity of the research, but limiting its external validity. Quantitative based research designs reverse this. The large sample size of quantitative data often makes it difficult for researches to establish causation among the independent and dependent variable(s). The external validly of such designs usually offsets this issue to some extent. Due to their large nature, and use of numerical data, quantitative research is much more replicable when compared to their qualitative counterparts. Unfortunately, the struggle between internal and external validity is a fundamental part of research. Even efforts to combine the two methods to form a 'mixed methods research design' ultimately fail to nullify the issue completely. Keeping this in mind, a quantitative analysis is the most logical given the specific research question and the data available. This chapter seeks to prove that there is a statistically significant difference in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I would choose this method over quantitative because qualitative methods are lead with first–hand observations for a wide range of behaviors. The hypothesis is broad and looks to describe the entire picture. It helps us to understand the world we live in and explains why things are the way they are. This type of research is primary gathering information for the early stages of a question. One of the major reasons for doing qualitative research is to become more experienced with the phenomenon you are interested in. Qualitative data collections are particularly helpful when the event is not of importance, but rather how the event may influence a sequence of other actions. Describing the complicated phenomena is not the goal of a qualitative research, but rather to distinguish ideas as to why and how a specific phenomenon operates as it does in a precise situation. • 56. Insider Threat Analysis Insider Threat Analysis In many insider crimes, managers and other coworkers observed that the offenders had exhibited signs of stress, disgruntlement, or other issues, but no alarms were raised. Barriers to using such psychosocial indicators include the inability to recognize the signs and the failure to record the behaviors so that they can be assessed. A psychosocial model was developed to assess an employee' s behavior associated with an increased risk of insider abuse. The model is based on case studies and research literature on factors/correlates associated with precursor behavioral manifestations of individuals committing insider crimes. To test the model's agreement with human resources and management professionals, we conducted an experiment with positive results. If implemented in an operational setting, the model would be part of a set of management tools for employee assessment to identify employees who pose a greater insider threat. The insider threat refers to harmful acts that trusted individuals might carry out; for example, something that causes harm to the organization, or an unauthorized act that benefits the individual. The insider threat is manifested when human behaviors depart from established policies, regardless of whether it results from malice or disregard for security policies. Research plays a major role in the society and it engages in discoveries, intelligence, and data collection. It works to find out and understand how things behave and operate. (Allan, H. 1964) In Health and Social Care research is essential because it allows new discoveries to be made and allows complicated problems to be solved to help improve and better the setting. A wide variety of different methods are used to acquire information or data. Some of these data can be classified into Quantitative and Qualitative data. Quantitative data refers to the compilation of information statistically. Normally, these data are collected numerically and are generally tested and verified with social surveys, case studies and experiments, unlike interpretivists, positivists have a preference to use quantitative data. August Comte, the founder of positivists, described positivism as a sociology of science and discovered true knowledge through mathematical testing. (Landow, G. 2013) According to the research process, quantitative data is useful since it allows researchers to analyse and measure data. Quantitative data's disadvantage is, it does not study things in natural environments or the significant issues of things to different people, while qualitative data is more comprehensive and valuable to data due to their written information or witnesses. • 66. Qualitative Data Evaluation To analyze the results of evaluation, the evaluators will undertake a robust analysis to identify whether or not there are any differences in patient characteristics and treatments provided by the six Victorian hospitals to Aboriginal people and non–Aboriginal people. The qualitative data will be transcribed and analyzed by using NVivo software based on the evaluation frameworks. Whereas the quantitative data would be assessed by using SPSS in order to measure the impacts of the policy directions, funding, workforce competencies and performance to facilitate the change in service delivery. To strengthen the validity of findings, we also conduct triangulation that will help to compare the qualitative data based on the opinion of key stakeholders and quantitative data from any sources. After completing data analysis, we will conduct a consultation with key stakeholders to discuss the preliminary findings, to establish any conclusions, and then to identify a possible improvement for strengthening the evidence. To eliminate the possible bias in justifying a conclusion, we will conduct some reflection by involving Aboriginal people. f. To reduce the impacts on the working time of all stakeholders, we will conduct an online survey for key personnel at the hospital, program managers, and the state and local health departments. Such condition will bring some challenges and consequences in the accuracy and quality of the data due to less control over its practice. Furthermore, the online survey might have low response rate and require the most time for completing this survey. Concerning this condition, working together with the DHSS, we need to conduct some workshop to inform and discuss the need of the evaluation and the potential benefit by performing this ... • 68. Hcs/325 Week 2 Qualitative Analysis Of Data To collect data for check sheet you have to determine what event or issue will be examined and then you will create operational definitions. Then we will determine when the data will be collected and gathered and for how long. From here, we will create the form and the form will be laid out to where the data can be recorded easily by making check or tally marks. All the spaces should be labeled on the form. The check sheet should then be tested for a brief trial period just to make sure it gathers the correct data and is easy to access and utilize. Whenever the targeted event or issue takes place, the data should be entered in on the check sheet (Check Sheet, n.d.). To collect data for a scatter plot, the healthcare organization will need to have at least 50–100 paired samples of data that is associated with the scatter plot. The data can be placed into a spreadsheet and then you can plot the data points on the diagram. The spreadsheet can be developed in a MS Excel file then we can use the Excel program to create a scatter plot with all of our data. • 70. Qualitative Data Collection Paper Qualitative Data Collection Within a quantitative study, the research is completed to seek some type of verification, but within a qualitative study the research is completed to seek a deeper understanding (Capella University, 2017c). For instance, Hoelscher et al. (2016) used a survey method to verify how the students commuted to school, and they received weather reports for specific dates and locations for data collection. In contrast, if Hoelscher et al. (2016) study was conducted using qualitative methodology, it would be designed as a multiple–case study design. A multiple case study design is an evaluation of multiple systems that are studied and compared to one another over time (Capella University, 2017b). The multiple cases being ... They would be conducted with the school staff, the funders, and the participants of the study. Observations in the field would include seeing how the students commuted to school and how the new building structures or implemented plans were influencing their commute. Lastly, a review of documentation and reports that shows the efforts being made with the grants and how it is helping and ensuring protection/safety of the participants involved. Ethical Concerns The main ethical challenge that is presented in this study if changed from a quantitative to a qualitative research design is the respect and protection of the participants. The studies focus is on ensuring safety for the students as they commute to school. The study begins with the students being as young as 9 years old. That may cause a problem when conducting a qualitative study over a course of three years. Qualitative study collects non–numerical data through words and narratives, therefore, it is important to ensure that protective actions are in place to address this ethical concern. • 72. Measurement Scales Paper Measurement Scales Paper Measurement in Analysis can take on many forms, but in this case, these come in the form of questionnaires. A questionnaire when not done correctly may not be able to obtain the information in which the corporation may be seeking. There are in general four categories that these fall into. Categorically, these include Nominal, Ordinal, Interval and Ratio Numbers. The essential goal of this author is to explain to the utmost of authority of how these fit into questionnaires. Attitude can play a part in the variables that make up these types of scales: from Nominal to Ratio. The general attitude scale will involve measurement in the same aspect of taking someone's temperature or providing distance between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The question is simply whether each object has more or less of this variable. When scaled, there will be no information as to how much difference between objects (Aakar, Kumar and Day, 2007). Due to lack of difference between objects, the basic arithmetic operations are limited to statistics such as the median or mode (this does not include the mean) (Aakar, Kudler and Day, 2007). One example would be to obtain the information sample of 1,000 surveyed consumers who ranked five brands of auto manufacturer preferred based on quality assumption. The questionnaire may look similar as ranked from Highest to Lowest with Second, Third, and Fourth all between (Aakar, Kudler and Day, 2007). Where the Second quality will be categorized as the 'mode', the Third category is the 'median' . There will no means of categorizing a general 'mean' because the differences in between ordinal scaled values are not necessarily the same (Aakar, Kudler and Day, 2007). Another example of this type of scale could be found in racing: dog, horse or car, that is they are found in a class standing (Aakar, Kudler and Day, 2007). Interval– The Interval scale represents the numbers used to rank objects which also represent equal increments of the attribute being measured. In more discrete terms, it simply means differences can be compared. The difference between 1 and 2 is the same as that found between 2 and 3, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 74. Information Retention And The Level Of Retention Essay 4.1 QUANTITATIVE DATA Total participants: n = 14 Undergraduate students in the Clayton Campus n = 14 14 students in total from the Clayton Campus responded to the online survey, ranging from Undergraduate degrees such as Arts/Business/Science/Bio–Medicine and Commerce. Level of distraction and information retention Figure 1: Undergraduate's response to distraction Figure 2: Undergraduate's response to the level of retention It was surprising and unexpected to see that although the students may be distracted by their own music, their level of retention is reasonably high, with the majority of the students remembering between 60 to 80 percent of the information that they have processed. Factors that may have influenced this outcome could be alluded to the fact that once the students have created a calm and accustomed studying atmosphere, that they can properly engage in it and retain such a high level of information. Studying with and without music Figure 3: Whether or not the participant has studied for a long period of time without music Figure 4: Whether or not the participant feels more productive when studying with music With allusion to the previous set of questions (Figures 1 & 2), slightly more than half of the students have answered that they have felt more productive when studying with music, which may reinforce the high retention rate. This may be the contributing factor via the creation of a comfortable environment, thus making it easier for the student to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 76. Research Methodology: Qualitative Methods of Data... In the previous chapters I discussed the problem of the lack of healthy eating promotion programs in schools are leaving parents and students uneducated about how to purchase healthy items which is leading to childhood obesity. I also discussed how the problem is being addressed, as well as the theory of social constructionism. In this chapter, I will discuss the specific methodology I plan to use and the three different types of data collection I plan to employ to carry out my study. This study will use a qualitative approach to study and address the issue of the lack of healthy eating promotion in schools. The three types of data collection I plan to use are: direct observation, focus groups and a questionnaire. These methods will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The participants are the only ones who can legitimately judge the credibility of the results. In addition to creditability, transferability is also an imperative part of qualitative research. Transferability refers to the degree in which the results of qualitative research can be generalized or transferred to other contexts or settings (Trochim, 2006). From a qualitative perspective transferability is primarily the responsibility of the one doing the generalizing. In this case, some of the implications can be transferred to another setting such as a university setting. Since this study is taking place in elementary school setting as well as secondary school setting, it could easily be transferred to a university setting with some alterations. Another perspective regarding qualitative research is confirmability. Confirmability refers to the degree to which the results could be confirmed by others (Trochim, 2006). Qualitative research tends to assume that each researcher brings a unique perspective to the study. By applying each of these concepts to the study, the researcher is able to provide a credible, valid, transferable study. Next, I will discuss the qualitative methods of data collection that this study will exploit. Qualitative Methods of Data Collection Qualitative research uses a wide variety of methods. It includes virtually any information that can be captured that is not numeral in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 78. Methods of Qualitative of Data Collection 04–Marshall–4864.qxd 2/1/2006 3:16 PM Page 97 4 Data Collection Methods ❖ ❖ ❖ Q ualitative researchers typically rely on four methods for gathering information: (a) participating in the setting, (b) observing directly, (c) interviewing in depth, and (d) analyzing documents and material culture. These form the core of their inquiry–the staples of the diet. Several secondary and specialized methods of data collection supplement them. This chapter provides a brief discussion of the primary and the secondary methods to be considered in designing a qualitative study. This discussion does not replace the many excellent, detailed references on data collection (we refer to several at the end of this chapter). Its purpose is to guide the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this way, the researcher is able to discover the recurring patterns of behavior and relationships. After these patterns are identified and described through early analysis of field notes, checklists become more appropriate and context–sensitive. Focused observation then is used at later stages of the study, usually to see, for example, if analytic themes explain behavior and relationships over a long time or in a variety of settings. Observation is a fundamental and highly important method in all qualitative inquiry. It is used to discover complex interactions in natural social settings. Even in studies using in–depth interviews, observation plays an important role as the researcher notes the interviewee's body language and affect in addition to her words. It is, however, a method that requires a great deal of the researcher. Discomfort, uncomfortable ethical dilemmas and even danger, the difficulty of managing a relatively unobtrusive role, and the challenge of identifying the big picture while finely observing huge amounts of fast–moving and complex behavior are just a few of the challenges.
