Similarities Between The Spanish Inquisition And The...
Every single person has a gift, not all gifts are noticeable at first or help anyone in particular, but everyone posses something special. Some people can
do two–digit multiplication in their heads, have the trait of leadership, be so convincing that everyone shares the same view as them, or just maybe
have the gift to bake a perfect apple pie. But with every gift comes a curse; other people become jealous and remorseful of different gifts, or the gift
holder becomes narcissistic and arrogant. The special gift that the Jews in any time period posses, is the ability to integrate themselves so deep in
society, that eventually they become a crucial part of the larger economy. Although the Jews prospered at first, eventually the Christians became...

During the Inquisition, the world as a whole had an affinity towards religion, whether it was in Europe, Asia, or the New World, they all focused on
religion. In many circumstances religion was the main factor of deciding, new decrees, declaring war, and the laws that changed the society as a
whole. While some of the disdain towards the Jews was their success in politics and other professions, it was mostly the desire to have a unified
religion that drove the Christians to persecute the Jews. The idea of mass converting the Jews, did not start occurring during the Inquisition, it actually
started centuries before during the Roman Empire in 64 BCE, when the General Pompey went to attack Jerusalem. The Spanish Inquisitors routinely
tried to convert the Jew and disprove the torah, they did this by quoting the Talmud and Bible. But one thing unique to the Inquisition was that the
Jews were given a choice to either convert, be expelled, or killed. The government started by sending in inquisitors to take the Jews into custody and
force them to convert or die, it was not until the March 1492 that the Jews were forced from the country. But the Jews that converted they were let back
into high society, they once again became merchants and legal experts, and

Giving Back To Community Analysis
I believe that giving back to the community is an essential act that one must do in their life. I moved to Hawaii at a young age from a third world
country to a small town. I lived in Waimea for about 7 years. I went to Waimea Elementary School and Waimea Middle School. The amount of time
that the community " gave back" to my educational experience is something that I want future generations to have. The community is only as great as
what is given back to it. In my middle school, we had an after school program called K– Arts. It was a free opportunity to venture out into activities
that you may enjoy. Some activities were: Tahitian Dancing, African Drumming, Hip
–Hop Dancing and more. These programs wouldn't have been
possible without

Personal Narrative Analysis
Ever since I was young, my parents always taught me to give back others. At the time, I never realized how difficult of a lesson this must have
been for my parents to teach my sister and I. Looking back, my parents sacrificed a lot of creature comforts to make sure that we had three, square
meals a day, a roof over our head, and clothes on our backs. In the last 10 years, I have been able to look back at my early childhood and realize that no
matter how little we had, we always managed to give back in some way shape or form. At first, it was volunteering our time and as time passed, we
were eventually able to contribute more. Since I was old enough to volunteer, I began giving my time and money to food pantries, cancer research,
homeless shelters, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From a personal standpoint, this article helps me my faith in humanity and that there's still some good in the world, despite all the negative things seen
the news every day. In middle and high school, there were several students who had Down syndrome and other mental/physical disabilities. Coming
from a small school and town, everyone, myself included, seemed to accept these students and treat them as normal individuals. It wasn't until I was a
mall in downtown Chicago that I realized how looked down upon these individuals were by the some of the patrons of society. Depending on the size
of the mall, it's not unusual to see maintenance staff walking around. This particular mall had a man on their maintenance staff, who had Down
syndrome. It was enlightening to see how some people reacted to this employee. About a fourth of the patrons exchanged greetings with the man, while
the rest of them either ignored him or would do things to make his job more difficult for him.
This experience made me realize how unappreciative most people are of their general good and the health of their children. The children and adults
who have these mental/physical conditions don't ask to get them and are often caused by something outside of their control, such as with the twins and
their hearing loss. In their case, it was a birth

Analysis Of Money Can T Buy Love: Asymmetric Beliefs
In Money Can't Buy Love: Asymmetric Beliefs about Gift Price and Feelings of Appreciation by Francis Flynn and Gabrielle Adams, they talk
deeply about the amount of gifts that people buy. For instance millions of Americans are always buying items and gifts every single day. It is
especially this way during the month of December when shoppers "spent over $30 billion at retail stores"(Flynn and Adams 5). The massive amount
of shopping for gifts for people who may not even like them is considered a bad habit to economists. People buy things for people who wouldn't
normally buy those things to begin with. It represents a waste in resources and is "referred to as 'the deadweight loss of Christmas'" which is because
people tend to overspend on gifts

Dr. Martin Luther King Day: A Day Of Volunteering
Volunteering is good for the mind, body, and soul. For some of us, it is hard to find the time. Becoming creative and doing what you deem a little can
be BIG for another. Dr. Martin Luther King said, "Life's most persistent and urgent questions is "What are you doing for others?" We can donate used
but good condition clothing to local non–profits; we can donate food to food drives; that is generosity and helping (and if that is all you have time for
then continue to do so). But I believe Dr. King is right when we get out into the community and connect with those who need a little more help and
meet them eye to eye are lives changed for the good. Martin Luther King Day is a day of volunteerism, and many local organizations are asking for

Educating Volunteer With The Elderly
In my home town they have started two very well known organizations that were designed to help the children in the community. These two
organizations are known as Kids First and WeCare. The heads of these organizations hold silent auctions, radio auctions, and clothes and food drives to
donate to families within the community who are not able to afford to purchase these items on their own budgets. There are to girls who decided that
they wanted to help the lower income families within our community and within their own school systems. These two girls, who happen to be sisters,
started a coat and blanket drive to host at their school which they hold every year. They simply ask the other students to bring in their old coats that

Goodwill is an organization in which people donate unwanted items for other people to buy at a lower cost than brand new items from a store. Not
only can people help by donating but they can also help by buying items from the stores too. According to the organization's Website, Goodwill is a
non–profit organization that spends about eighty–three cents on every dollar they make on programs and services for those in need ("Think Before You
Donate," 2015, para. ). Goodwill not only benefits the community in which they are located in, but also on a national level all around the nation.
Another nation–wide organization that several people participate in is Operation Christmas Child. This is one organization that is simple, not too
costly, and still extremely effective for those who receive it. For those donating, it's as simple as filling a shoebox with items for either a boy or a
girl, marking it for a specific age group and dropping it off at a specified location. This organization mainly targets children whose parents cannot
afford to give them presents or sometimes the necessities they need. These shoe boxes may be the only thing that a child receives around Christmas
time. Taking a small amount of time out of the day and buying the items to fill the shoebox is just a small price to pay to help someone in need.
Another nation wide organization that is simple to participate in is the Angel Tree Program. This program is usually highly

Crucial Issues In Our World
Since time immemorial, humans have been helping each other in hard situations. There is a famous saying from Gandhi, who says: "The best way
to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." Nowadays, it is one of the most crucial issues in our world, so we can see a vast number
of charities with various purposes everywhere. For instance, some of them are for fighting against cancer or other illnesses, some for helping hungry
and homeless people, and above all, war victims. There are different opinions on the best way to apply this worthy cause. To put this subject into
perspective, perhaps it would be better to look objectively at two major ideas on this contentious matter.
On the one hand, some people believe that charity begins

Rhetorical Analysis Of Why Lunch Ladies Are Heroes
Jarrett Krosoczka presented a Technology, Education, Design (TED) Talk on July 2014 titled "Why Lunch Ladies are Heroes." He presented his
purpose, to get society to thank people more often, to an upper class audience. Krosoczka hopes that by thanking a person each and everyday we
can make an impact in others lives. This idea is shown through him telling a story about how his thank you changed a lunch ladies life. Krosoczka
does a fantastic job at persuading readers by pulling at their heart strings, playfully speaking to the audience, and allowing people of all ages to be
able to listen to his powerful speech. In this speech, Pathos which is persuading a person with emotional pity is developed. Krosoczka uses his school
lunch lady as an example. How his elementary lunch lady carried his graphic novels "The Lunch Lady" with her until they... Show more content on

It made his speech more frustrating rather than "sweet," and from the heart. It makes the audience feel like they have never truly impacted a
person's life unless they have thanked person. Also he made it seem like the upper class never thank their workers below them, which is not always
the truth. This pulls away from why it is important to give someone credit for their hard work, when he is nagging on others for not doing so.
Although a strength in his argument is that he did say not many people thank lunch ladies, which is most likely true. He believes everyone should be
thanked for their hard work, but lunch ladies rarely are. Krosoczka stated, "the lunch lady has not been treated very kindly in popular culture over
time" (Krosoczka 1:44). He mentioned how lunch ladies feed our children, which helps them learn they are never noticed though. What he is trying to
get at is to thank the people that are not as noticeable, that are hard workers too. Which doing so can change a person's

Donating Community Analysis
"It is a denial of justice not to stretch out a helping hand to the fallen, that is the common right of humanity." Expressed Seneca the elder, a roman
rhetorician and writer. Although some people may think donating to their local communities is incorrect, there are numerous reasons why citizens
should consider donating. Donating helps people without the basic necessities of life, improves academics and also helps beautify the community.
More American citizens should donate to help and improve their community.
With citizens donating, poor American families can be supported and cared for. Independently audited financial statements consistently show that
nearly 9 out of every 10 dollars a citizen spends goes to programs and services for children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Salvation Military Research Paper
There are many opportunities to give back to people every day. It could be the time you give someone or something they need to sustain them, and
keep them going. The fundamentals of giving back are often seen through charity work or even so much as donating a few items of clothing. I,
however, decided to devote my time to feeding the homeless through the Salvation Army. One day, while sitting in church listening to our Pastor give a
sermon about helping others I felt something inside me that made me talk to my friend and her husband about something we could do to help others.
While doing our research we found out that The Salvation Army can only accommodate a certain amount of people and because of this, many people
lie under bridges, on benches around town, and in or near abandoned buildings.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We went to the store and bought toiletries, bread, peanut butter and jelly, water, juice boxes, and many other things to distribute to the homeless
around town. These items were essentials that were desperately needed by these people, and the money we raised in order to get these items went
a long way. We were very nervous about just walking up to people and passing these things out, the idea of a stranger coming up to you and
handing you items is a scary thought in itself, but being on the other end is even scarier because you don't know how others will react. But we did
it. and found that they were very grateful for things we bought and were very thankful that we took the time out of our day to come to help them. We
made many more trips downtown to drop off things as we received them. After about a month and a half making two to three trips downtown to hand
out these items was tiring, but the reactions these people had, and the kindness we received as we made our drop offs was a reward in

I love to help as much as I can with anything possible. The biggest thing that i've done to help my whole community is donate blood. I love doing this
because it can help anyone, since I have O– blood it can be donated to anyone. I always feel superior knowing I helped save a life and one day I know
someone is going to help me. It's the whole giving and getting back thing because it's not about donation, it's about making a difference. My biggest
self–importance is helping people either physically or mentally and this is one big way to help in both categories. The steps I took to accomplish this
is focusing on the lives I may help and looking at the differences I can make may last a lifetime. I was inspired by learning in medical class that

with some of the simple yard keep. Another great organization I volunteer for is called, 15 Forever Community Foundation. This is a foundation that
gives 15,000 dollars to non–profit organizations. I have been doing this for three years, and the board members and I discuss what we want our

Benefits Of Donating To The Homeless
As the holidays roll around we often think of what presents to give our loved ones, what food to prepare for the family get together, or the
hopefulness for a white Christmas full of joy for the whole family. Though all these are reasonably rewarding in their own way from getting the
family together to receiving gifts that you have always wanted, have you ever thought about just how rewarding it would be to possibly save a
person`s life just by giving them some clothing? Well if you are interested in possibly saving a life there is a way to do so and that is called donating
to the homeless. The United Stated has one of the highest population of homeless people in the world. Though many think that people who are

The Solution And World Poverty
Many have been in a situation where they were asked if they would like to donate to a foundation of some sort. We have all had an opportunity to
help or ignore. Which is the main problem in the article "The Solution to World Poverty." Peter Singer, the author of this article gives various
examples on how people act in a situation relating to poverty. He uses examples from a movie called Central Station and a book by Peter Unger called
Living High and Letting Die. These examples were life and death situations that emphasized on his main point.
This article shows how passion the author is about donating to children. He has touched me personally by reminding me of my own experiences of
donating to charities. There were some major points in his article that I agree and disagreed with and that is what my article is based on. My paper
shows the major points I choice to discuss like my disagreements and experiences with donating. My paper is responding to Singer, on how people
deserve rewards for their hard work, about adults living in poverty as well as children and how giving is an act of kindness.
While reading this article, I read a quote and the author believes, "Going out to nice restaurants, buying new clothes because the old ones are no longer
stylish, vacationing at beach resorts––so much of our income is spent on things not essential to the preservation of our lives and health." I disagree
with this statement because people are entitled to rewards. People are

Why I Want To Give Back To High School
I sincerely have a deep desire to give back to my school and community at large. I have been given so many opportunities to grow and succeed that I
feel that I need to give back to in as many areas as possible. My involvement in the community began in elementary school through my church group. I
have always had a love for the elderly. I regularly visited nursing homes and assisted living facilities engaging in activities there. Also, I worked with
the Salvation Army during the Christmas break to raise money for the homeless. In high school, I have had to manage my time wisely to include
volunteering with the demands of advanced placement and dual enrollment classes and extra– curricular activities. One of my main passions is to

The Is A Gesture Of Charity It Is An Act Of Justice
"Overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity it is an act of justice." Have you ever wondered how many people and countries around the world are
suffering from poverty and crisis? Your answer should be yes. Quite a few years ago a British journalist called John Langdon– Davie founded this
Charity in 1937. This Charity started off for the children in Spain whose lives got ruined by the Spanish Civil War. After that by 1938 around 300
Spanish children were getting help by this plan. By 1945, this plan extended across Europe and China to help others in need, plan Canada at that time
decided that they should run this program in developing countries because of their bad economic situation. In 1960 Plan Canada was somewhat

Lastly, Plan International made this website for people to know what they are doing to improve children's lives and for people to donate for these causes.
Sense of urgency
Plan Canada does require immediate action because, as Plan Canada says "your donation will help Plan International Canada respond quickly in
those vital hours and days of a disaster, wherever it may strike." For example, World Refugee Crisis, over 60 million people around the world
mostly children who have experienced and seen disturbing things that they shouldn't have seen are going through this. These children are the reason
Plan Canada is going out directly in countries like: Syria, South Sudan, South America, and the Central African Republic to help the children in
need. Another example is, Emergency Relief Fund, with our donations we will be able to help whenever a disaster strikes around the world. With
our donations we will be able to help them in quickest possible time in order to save lives, we will be able to quickly to provide shelter, food, water.
Following that Basic necessities is lacking as a living thing, as said by plan international "Access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene is critical for
the survival, development and well– being of children." Plan International Canada works with communities together to develop access to clean drinking
water.
Use of funds
Charity funds are being spent in 3 different ways, program expenditures, fundraising and operations.

Persuasive Speech On Organ Donation
Every ten minutes another desperate human being is added to a list, given a number, or ranked by level of need. Every day, on average, twenty
people die because they are too far from the top of the list, their "need" for survival is not high enough. These people need organs, and it is on us to
help. It takes just one of us to save as many as eight people on the list. People need to be educated on organ donation and the opportunities it creates
rather than a hasty decision that is made when you apply for your driver's license. Organ donation is an amazingly powerful and underestimated
practice. I believe everyone should become more open to the idea of helping others through the donation of their organs, which would otherwise be

On the other hand, living donations can be non–directed, meaning you give a kidney and it is then matched with someone who needs it. There is also
paired donation which can occur, for example, if you want to give to your sister but the specifications do not match, and this happens with two
other individuals, they can then "swap", assuming each other's donators match the other recipient. ("Data | UNOS") Deceased donation tends to
be anonymous. As sated before, one person can save many lives. ("Data | UNOS") You can choose to give yourself to multiple people or even
donate yourself to science. Many people have a fear that medical staff will not work as hard to save them because they are donors, which is not the
case. Their job is to save lives so that is their first priority in any case. ("10 Myths about Organ Donation") The family will also be consulted before
anything is removed from you to confirm your decision. Your family will also be notified of what organs were donated and offered support such as
counseling or bereavement. ("Data | UNOS") Deceased donation can make the most impact by providing vital organs such as a heart. Carlee, age 15,
has received two hearts in her life and has decided, "Those people who gave me another heart...they gave me a second chance. I've been saved twice by
an organ donor. So who says I can't save somebody else?" Carlee proved her strength in these words while empowering herself as well as others. ("I

Reflection Paper On Spirit Of Giving
The Spirit of giving requires to give time and loyalty to any activity that helps better our community or other humane things around us. I
participated in helping to make a charity walk for Crohn's and Colitis successful with a couple of my peers. So much happened in six hours of
volunteering it began with confusion of what to do to lots of fun with the children I was interacting with in my stand. A charity walk was the
perfect way to feel involved into the community, I received a very meaningful experience while I was helping out at the charity walk. I am proud
to say that I enjoyed my time organizing awareness of Crohn's and Colitis and involving with my community. There was so much confusion from
me at the beginning when I got to the setting of the charity walk which was at Woodward park. I was eager to find out what I was going to do
while at the charity and how I was going to feel involved with the activity. As time passed I began to feel more comfortable and not at all shy and
bored. There was actually points when I got lost in what I was supposed to be doing at the moment but I began to just go with it, it was so easy
because I had a children's stand which I like to interact because they're so sweet. This experience was all about the gratefulness I felt while
volunteering and how happy I was to participate in a charity walk for a good cause. Honestly I've never felt this helpful to spread awareness of a cause
that needs so much help to be known much more and funded. The only thing that actually mattered was feeling passionate about volunteering in this
walk and I put so much effort into this activity. I volunteered for six hours although it felt asthe time passed really quick due to how much I loved
working at the children's stand. I helped set up all the different stand from the beginning when nobody has arrived. There was so much action while
trying to set up everything perfectly and trying to make it look extra presentable for the participants in the walk. The stand my peers and I put extra
work was our own and we set up fun games to entertain the children. The children had so much fun when my peers and I would paint their faces with
different designs we had and they kept coming back. Not only

Does Effective Altruism Matter?
It is not a matter of who is responsible, but rather who is willing. Growing up in the church, I have learned that the size of the donation does not matter;
it is the heart that gives. The article states that "effective altruism is not a plot to guilt the rich into asceticism," an extreme rejection of worldly things,
but rather maximize altruist efforts. Effective altruism does not designate any group responsible, but rather creates a mindset to inspire all economic
classes to maximize their good. For example, the "1 percent rule" encourages the middle class – individuals whose income is greater than $52,000 a
year – to donate 1% of their income to double the happiness of someone who makes equivalent to that 1%. Effective altruism also encourages

The Theme of Violence in Cage Bird, Giving Blood, Sand...
This semester in American Literature I have read and analyzed various literary works. The reoccurring theme throughout the works is violence. I have
came to the conclusion that the significance of violence throughout the various works is that the group or individual singled out throughout the works
is the victim of violence because the enemy has something to gain from the victim. The literary works, Caged Bird, Giving Blood, Sand Creek, and An
Episode of War demonstrate this.
For example, Caged Bird by Maya Angelou demonstrates how a personal struggle can become a form of violence. Angelou, an African American has
a troubled childhood and as a result of her parents divorce she is sent to live with her grandmother at a young age. ... Show more content on

Historically there have been racial tensions between white's and Native Americans. This resulted in massacres of Native American's. The violence
reflected in this short story is the denial of the blood donation of the man and the massacre of the Native Americans by white's. The massacre was a
gain for white's because it eliminated the Native American's who were seen as a threat to the white's way of life.
Another example of discrimination resulting in violence is reflected in the poem Sand Creek, by Simon Ortiz. The poem is told from the point of
view of an Indian who reflects on the brutality of Indian deaths by the Anglos. The poem is a historical reference to the Sand Creek massacre, which
occurred in 1864 when a US military militia massacred a group of Indians who presented themselves as friendly near a fort. At the conclusion of the
poem the author emphasizes that things will improve stating that, "There are flowers, and new grass, and a spring wind rising from Sand Creek" (2).
The author also states that things will change for the people of Indian decent. The violence throughout the poem is the Anglos massacring the Indians
just because they could.
Finally, in An Episode of War, by Stephen Crane an army lieutenant experiences the reality of war first hand. In the short story, an army lieutenant is

Persuasive Essay On Volunteering
eather French Henry once said, "Volunteering is at the very core of being a human, no one has made it in life without someone else's help,"
(Volunteering Solutions 3). Similarly, the butterfly is a very small natural force which over a period of time gains a cumulatively large effect that
produces great beauty. This phenomenon begins first with insurmountable struggles and works its way through a snarled mess of webbing and
eventually takes flight. With every effort, the first step in volunteering is usually the hardest. However, once the intention is set, the flight of
volunteering takes off. In fact, many scholars over the years have argued over how involved an individual should be in one's community. Some believe
the largest reward a person can achieve from giving their time and money to the good of their community is the satisfaction, accomplishment, and pride
that comes from within. Ultimately, an individual's role should be founded on one's ability to be impactful to their community, this impact can be quick
or long lasting but in the end, the results of volunteering demonstrate leadership and stewardship which through example inspires others to do the same,
creating a better place for all to live.
The purpose of giving stems from the ability of each individual to be impactful with their own actions. Through the action of giving to one's
community, the meaning of the action does not lie in how much money or how much volunteering is produced, rather how much

better learning experience than weekly homework assignments. The Jimmy Fund is a charity that does a great job branding and making its presence

as well as reaching out to a close contacts that would put me over my goal of $601. I believe that this approach would let me find out what worked

In the short story "circle" by Jennifer Taylor, the theme that kindness is like a gift in the way that it is easy to receive, but you have to have some
heart to give it, is revealed though the character's actions, a significant passage and the title of the story. In "Circle," and elderly woman is in need of
help and is assisted by a kind deed from a man. Seeing the heart he had, she returns the favor to a pregnant and suffering waitress. Throughout the story,
the main character's actions, a significant passage, and the title of the story all contribute to conveying the theme that that you choose whether or not to

I work at the service station. If you got a tire in your trunk, I can have you fixed up in a jiffy. You don't even have to get out of the car...Joe told her
to stay in the car, no sense in her getting soaked to the bone." So far, no one has had the heart to come and assist Mary Ann with her situation until
Joe comes. Joe's actions of changing Mary Ann's tire when the rain is falling further proves that Joe's actions further verifies the theme. Another
example is when, "What do I owe you?...On no ma'am. Thank you but you don't owe me a thing. Things like this have happened to me too.
Someone once helped me out just like I'm helping you. So no, put away you money...But Joe, please. Can I do something for you?...Next time you
see someone who needs a hand, lend it." (Taylor 1) The excerpt defiantly depicts this theme because Joe is choosing to give a gift of kindness to
Mary Ann. This gift of kindness is expressed as a free tire change under harsh conditions. Mary Ann's reactions further prove that choosing to give
kindness can cause people to spread that gift to others. Also, Joe tells Mary Ann to pass on his gift to others

Employee Matching Gifts
You should use this tab to see who has recently given and what prospects may be ready for a solicitation call. If prospects have given within the past
three months you should schedule a stewardship call to thank them for their support. By sorting these fields you can better approach your portfolio and
be more strategic with your calling.
For instance, if you sorted the last gift column and found all prospects who gave a gift in the last fiscal year (FY) but have not yet renewed in this FY
this could help you organize your time.
SDO manager will update the information tab on a weekly basis. Always check ADVANCE to make sure a prospect has not given within the week

Matching Gifts
Missouri S&T can also obtain gifts through alumnus employee matching gifts. Under corporate matching gift programs, gifts made by a company's
eligible employees to a nonprofit organization (S&T) are matched with company or corporate foundation funds at a certain ratio. Many companies
match a gift while others double and even triple the amount in some cases.
To initiate the matching gift, a donor picks up the company's matching gift form from the personnel office or company website, completes it and sends
it along with his donation to Missouri S&T and we do the rest of the required paperwork.
Not all alumni work for a matching gift company, but you should always ask them if they do. They might be eligible to use their spouse's company
matching gift program as well. Explain the benefits to Missouri S&T and for themselves as donors sending their gift along with a matching gift form.
In addition, some companies match contributions from their retired

Reciprocity And Kawelka Relationship
The act of reciprocity, the mutual act of giving and receiving; giving more than you are taking. A quote that really captures the true meaning of
reciprocity is, "People gave with the expectation of taking and took with the expectation of giving" (Harris 1989). This is seen across many different
cultures and time periods. Nevertheless, they are not all the same, and may not generate equivalent types of relationships, for social and personal
value. In this essay we will look at two separate acts of reciprocity; how they work, and what they provide. First, a look into the Gebusi
sister–exchange, and then into the Kawelka's moka ceremony. Everyone desires connection, whether that be through friendships or sexual relations.
Community and the desire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Among the Kawelka tribe, reciprocity serves as a way of "gaining prestige and shaming rivals" (Cronk 1988). This form of exchange serves as way of
social superiority. Their ritual is called the moka; this is a very important ceremony to their tribe. "The reason why Ongka so wanted to give his big
moka, is that only by giving can he earn fame and status for his tribe and for him" (Niarn 1974). The moka ceremony is a formal interaction in
which one man gives more than he received from another, as a pay back of debt, as well as a trump to their social status. However, the return of the
moka cannot happen after a long period of time, doing so immediately would serve as a desire to cut the strings and end the relationship. It is
expected that the debt will be repaid when the time comes, if it is not the one who has not repaid the debt will lose their support and status as a
'big–man". The goal of the moka is to eventually become a "big–man", also known as a tribal leader (Cronk 1988). After one big moka was thrown by
Ongka, that included several hundreds of pigs, a truck, thousands of dollars and more, he told the recipient of his moka, "I have won. I have knocked
you down by giving so much" (Cronk 1988; Nairn

Examples Of Irony In The Gift Of The Magi
The Gift of the Magi
People buy gifts for each other on Christmas as a sign of love. But when you are poor and do not have a lot, buying things for people may be
difficult. Selling things to get money to buy other people things shows unselfish love. When a poor couple buys each other presents and they don't
have much to offer it shows the true meaning of love. Della and Jim are a young married couple without much to offer. They both have a strong love
for a specific item they possess. "It is the day before Christmas and Della saved up money for the year and had a total of $1.87" ( " The Gift of the

Steps For Giving Blood Donation Process
You might be a little afraid about giving blood. Don't be! It's simple and takes less than an hour to complete. I'm here to tell you each step in the
blood donation process. There are six steps to giving blood. The first step is making an appointment. This step is optional walk–ins are always
welcomed. It's best to make an appointment so the staff has an idea of how many people are going to show up. You can make an appointment online
or call. The number to call is 1–800–RED CROSS. Or to make an appointment online just go to the Red Cross's home page at redcross.org and up at
the top second from the left, there is a tab that says donate blood. You click that and type in your zip code. Click on the blood drive you want and
choose the time for your appointment. If you are a returning donor you will need to bring your donor card and ID. First time donors need to bring
ID and after your first appointment you will receive a donor card and a blood droplet pin. The day of your donation don't skip meals and drink plenty
of water. So you show up at your appointment, the next thing you need to do is sign in. While you are waiting you must read a little booklet. The
booklet contains information on people who are unable to donate blood. They may not be able to give because of where they have traveled or maybe
it's the medicine they are taking. You have to read this every time you donate. Since I've donate for a couple years I just skim it to see it they have
added anything new.

Effects Of Transcendentalism
"Is this a gift?," the cordial cashier asks my mom at the checkout counter at Target during Christmas season. Around me, I see people bustling in all
directions, scrambling to find those perfect presents that, sooner or later, will be forgotten about, buried in the darkest crevices of one's closet or,
perhaps, already on their way to the dumpster. I have oftentimes wondered what instigates people to accumulate objects, which end up barely fulfilling
their needs, therefore, initiating the never–ending cycle of consumerism. Having lived in the United States for seventeen years, I have come to
acknowledge that Americans possess an unfulfilled desire for purchasing, supposedly practical and innovative items, ranging from the newest edition
of the MacBook Air to a redesigned model of the Jeep... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To my knowledge, many people, including transcendentalists Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau have observed these issues begin to
develop in America as early as the nineteenth century. By stressing the ideals of living one with nature, far from the realms of society's corrupting
influence, they have, inevitably, sparked a movement of minimalism, that merits much more attention than it receives. This motivates me, as an
individual who intends to major in urban studies, to conduct research and statistical analysis to determine why our culture has a predisposition for
consumerism, provided that most Americans are already heavily indebted. Exploring the multiple factors that account for such a prodigious trend in
our country could help us identify and counteract the effects that it has on our environment and economy. Of course, this is an immense challenge to
overcome, yet it is also one of the most urgency; it is, inevitably, a threat to our existence, especially once the human population starts being replaced by

Marcel Mauss's 'Indian Gift'
Gift giving, particularly during the holidays, is regular facet of our daily lives. Whether or not all gifts carry the obligation of reciprocity is
characterized by the gift's cultural context. The Gift: The Form and the Reason for Exchange in Archaic Societies, (1925) Marcel Mauss' ethnographic
book, presents the necessity of reciprocation through analysing the gift giving practices of the Maori and the Kwakiutl. Jonathan Parry revisits Mauss'
theory in his essay, "The Gift, the Indian Gift and the 'Indian Gift'," (1986) addressing its connection as well as contradiction to the Hindu law of gift
giving. Ultimately, Mauss and Parry propose differing perspectives on the obligation to reciprocate when given a gift. Their opposing conclusions...

The obligation to reciprocate is based on the belief that the recipient receives and possesses something that belongs to the donor (Mauss 1925: 17). In
reciprocating a gift, Mauss explains that the receiver balances and restores the hau of the first gift to its origin (Mauss 1925: 15–17). Moreover, the
potlatch, the North American Indian practice of exchanging gifts competitively, is characterized by themes of rivalry and destruction, requiring one to
reciprocate or risk losing authority (Mauss 1925: 11–12). In Northeast Siberia and among the Eskimos of West Alaska, the exchange of gifts is imbued
with additional spiritual significance (Mauss 1925: 18–19). In destroying by sacrifice, as in the potlach, the people are fulfilling their obligations to the
gods, to whom they owe their use of the land (Mauss 1925: 20–21). Marcel Mauss asserts this exchange of gifts between the humans and the gods is a
necessary element of buying peace between them (Mauss 1925: 21). Mauss argues that reciprocation is a mandatory element of gift giving because of
the social contract that is formed by the first gift, which contains in it the donor's spirit (Mauss 1925: 14–21). We can see Mauss' theory at work today
in western society when we obligated to bring back gifts from a holiday for a friend who has already done the same for us. This pressure is the result
of the need to restore the balance in the social contract that Mauss

would just save up your Christmas presents and some of your money, you can make a difference to the children. The benefits of volunteering are huge
to you, and your community. Unpaid volunteers are often the glue that pull a community together. Volunteering allows you to associate with your
community and make it a better place. Even if you help out with the smallest tasks, it can make a real difference to them and the organizations in need.
Doing volunteer is very meaningful and interesting, and it can be an energizing escape from your daily routine. You can finally loosened up from
your excessive amount of work in this city and do a good cause in the meantime. Volunteering also provides you with improved creativity and vision

10:30–3:30pm, I'll try and see if I could catch it, which I doubt but hey. There's an interview thing going on sometime this week, doesn't really pay
any effect on me so I'll pass it by. As I cut through the cafeteria, and pass other students enjoying a wonderful breakfast that I wish I could have, I
briefly stop at the lounge area where there's one student watching a commercial for Colgate whitening toothpaste, then right after, Regis and Kelly
pops back on.
I continue to my class and once again I pass a table set up for blood drive as a reminder for students who want to participate. I head up the stairs to
the third floor, pass a newspaper stand with a headline of the Tsunami death toll, and with President Bush's inauguration date approaching gradually.
Can't stop to grab one, have 30 seconds to get to class. I pass another lounge area with another bunch of students watching television with the channel

My Vacation To Punta Cana
My Truth Essay
This year on Spring Break my family went on vacation to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. We traveled there a couple of times when I was younger,
but don't have any memories except for the flight. I want to share two favorite things that were awesome about our trip, the food and the gift shops. I
really enjoyed both of them because the food tasted delicious and the gift shops had a bunch of cool items such as chocolate, medication, beach towels,
and a lot of expensive jewelry and antiques that just cost too much.
The food in the Dominican Republic always tasted like it came from a restaurant and I never was concerned about it because it was an all–inclusive

were always very entertaining whenever they walked up to you. Another fantastic part about the servers is most of them knew how to speak
English clearly which is kind of unusual because they live in the Dominican Republic where most of the community speaks Spanish. Sometimes
we waited in a long line of people to fill our plates the food was incredible, the waiters and waitresses were fabulous, and the atmosphere was warm.
A couple nights a local band of musicians played songs and strolled around the dining room. The only bad part about the buffet was the other people
because they were loud. Some families would always make a lot of noise and were too many people in line for the food. The family members that

Persuasive Essay On Poverty
Poverty, it is an unfortunate circumstance that happens from the town you live in, to the other side of the globe. About 1.4 billion people are currently
living in extreme poverty across the globe, that is roughly 20% of the world's population (Singer 9). I will begin this essay by summarizing and
explaining Peter Singer's, an Australian ethic philosopher, basicargument that it is immoral not to give to effective charities, an idea I agree with. After
that, I will bring to attention two objections to this argument and show how these objections fail.
To begin explaining the argument, this thought experiment will help bring the logic into play. In concise terms, Singer asks, what should you do if
you see a young child drowning in a small pond and you have brand new shoes on that will get messed up from the water (3)? Most people will say
that they will help the young child in need, a pair of shoes is not nearly as significant as a life. Many thought experiments like this show how people
should be willing to give up things that are not merely as important as another's livelihood.
In a greater perspective, millions of people all across the globe need help to make it through the day. Charities can make this help possible by us being
able to donate time or money that is not nearly as important as saving lives. When talking about charities, it is meant that these are effective ones that
make the most use out of the money given to them.
The idea of helping people in need is in line with the first premise of Singer's argument, which is that "suffering and death from lack of food, shelter,
and medical care are bad" (15). The second premise states that "if it is in your power to prevent something bad from happening, without sacrificing
anything nearly as important, it is wrong not to do so" (Singer 15). This idea goes beyond helping within your physical reach, help needed from large
distances away can be just as important as help nearby. The last premise of this argument is that you can donate to acharity to prevent something bad
from happening, without sacrificing much at all (Singer 15). For example, giving up Starbucks coffee for a week can save multiple lives by giving that
money to charities. These three

Ongka's Big Moka
The 1976 documentary film Ongka's Big Moka is a prime example to explicate the resemblance of gift economy and creditor–debtor relationship with
regard to interest. Moka is a ritual of gifting in tribes of the Mount Hagen area in Papua New Guinea. Pigs as well as other live stocks, cassowaries,
scarce pearl shells, and as the modern civilization gradually penetrates into the tribes, cash and automobiles are given away at the ceremony. Giving
away food and gifts is translated to status and rank. The greater the value of the gifts and the scale of the feast are, the greater the power it brings to
the host of the moka. The receiving tribe tries to repay the gift to recover its prestige by hosting another moka with more generous gifts and a more ...

The receiver of the gift is better off in a utilitarian sense, if he chooses not to return the favor. Yet why does he have the desire to repay? Why does
receiving a gift put him at a social disadvantage? The economy of gift of Bataille differs from Nietzsche's creditor–debtor relationship with regard to
the psychology behind these two dynamics. While Bataille delved into the mentality of the giver, who has the upper hand in this power relation,
Nietzsche focused on the psychology of the debtor. Bataille construed the economy of gifting as an act out of man's "animal factor" that goes beyond
the want of acquisition – a human instinct to win and to overpower. It is in man's nature to covet "prestige, glory and rank" (Bataille, 1997, p. 376),
yet they do not come without comparison and competition. Thus, the giver of the gift has to deliberately create a rivalry, and thus, an inequality that
favors himself in order to acquire prestige, glory and rank. It is this desire for superiority that gives man the ultimate incentive to give away his
wealth. Gifting is to win by losing. It also explains the increment value in the return of the gift, for the receiver of the initial gift not only wants to
recover his equality with the initial giver, but also to overpower him, to defeat him. The same desire that fuels the endless cycle of gifting rituals like
moka and potlatch. One good potlatch deserves another, and

Analysis Of The Singer Solution To World Poverty By Peter...
Poverty in Children
Peter Singer the author of the story "The Singer Solution to World Poverty" which talks about how humans are selfish and spend their extra money on
luxuries instead of donating it to charities to help starving children. Singer rambles back and forth how greedy we are and tries to make us feel guilty
for those innocent starving children. Children that we suddenly have to care about just because they're almost dead "Children" are the ones to care
about in this situation instead of spending our money on whatever we want we have to spend it on children you might as well have children of your
own if you're doing that. In a way when you donate money to a charity you're just giving up your extra but like having a child your giving up extra for
others Why would I give my hard–earned cash to some five–year–old across the planet when someone closer and richer could do the same and let me
be so I can enjoy my wealth. I agree but I also disagree with Singer that the starving children need to be saved, but I don't think this is the right
solution to fixing the problem because it can cause more problems for everyone over a course of years.
Singer is just trying to persuade us by saying "children are starving do something don't be selfish and keep your money on you it makes you look
bad" I don't really see it as "bad" if you're being smart with your money and not greedy there's a big difference between the two and for even saying that
I don't want to give my money to

Similarities Between The Spanish Inquisition And The...

  • 1. Similarities Between The Spanish Inquisition And The... Every single person has a gift, not all gifts are noticeable at first or help anyone in particular, but everyone posses something special. Some people can do two–digit multiplication in their heads, have the trait of leadership, be so convincing that everyone shares the same view as them, or just maybe have the gift to bake a perfect apple pie. But with every gift comes a curse; other people become jealous and remorseful of different gifts, or the gift holder becomes narcissistic and arrogant. The special gift that the Jews in any time period posses, is the ability to integrate themselves so deep in society, that eventually they become a crucial part of the larger economy. Although the Jews prospered at first, eventually the Christians became... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the Inquisition, the world as a whole had an affinity towards religion, whether it was in Europe, Asia, or the New World, they all focused on religion. In many circumstances religion was the main factor of deciding, new decrees, declaring war, and the laws that changed the society as a whole. While some of the disdain towards the Jews was their success in politics and other professions, it was mostly the desire to have a unified religion that drove the Christians to persecute the Jews. The idea of mass converting the Jews, did not start occurring during the Inquisition, it actually started centuries before during the Roman Empire in 64 BCE, when the General Pompey went to attack Jerusalem. The Spanish Inquisitors routinely tried to convert the Jew and disprove the torah, they did this by quoting the Talmud and Bible. But one thing unique to the Inquisition was that the Jews were given a choice to either convert, be expelled, or killed. The government started by sending in inquisitors to take the Jews into custody and force them to convert or die, it was not until the March 1492 that the Jews were forced from the country. But the Jews that converted they were let back into high society, they once again became merchants and legal experts, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Giving Back To Community Analysis I believe that giving back to the community is an essential act that one must do in their life. I moved to Hawaii at a young age from a third world country to a small town. I lived in Waimea for about 7 years. I went to Waimea Elementary School and Waimea Middle School. The amount of time that the community " gave back" to my educational experience is something that I want future generations to have. The community is only as great as what is given back to it. In my middle school, we had an after school program called K– Arts. It was a free opportunity to venture out into activities that you may enjoy. Some activities were: Tahitian Dancing, African Drumming, Hip –Hop Dancing and more. These programs wouldn't have been possible without ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Personal Narrative Analysis Ever since I was young, my parents always taught me to give back others. At the time, I never realized how difficult of a lesson this must have been for my parents to teach my sister and I. Looking back, my parents sacrificed a lot of creature comforts to make sure that we had three, square meals a day, a roof over our head, and clothes on our backs. In the last 10 years, I have been able to look back at my early childhood and realize that no matter how little we had, we always managed to give back in some way shape or form. At first, it was volunteering our time and as time passed, we were eventually able to contribute more. Since I was old enough to volunteer, I began giving my time and money to food pantries, cancer research, homeless shelters, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From a personal standpoint, this article helps me my faith in humanity and that there's still some good in the world, despite all the negative things seen the news every day. In middle and high school, there were several students who had Down syndrome and other mental/physical disabilities. Coming from a small school and town, everyone, myself included, seemed to accept these students and treat them as normal individuals. It wasn't until I was a mall in downtown Chicago that I realized how looked down upon these individuals were by the some of the patrons of society. Depending on the size of the mall, it's not unusual to see maintenance staff walking around. This particular mall had a man on their maintenance staff, who had Down syndrome. It was enlightening to see how some people reacted to this employee. About a fourth of the patrons exchanged greetings with the man, while the rest of them either ignored him or would do things to make his job more difficult for him. This experience made me realize how unappreciative most people are of their general good and the health of their children. The children and adults who have these mental/physical conditions don't ask to get them and are often caused by something outside of their control, such as with the twins and their hearing loss. In their case, it was a birth ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of Money Can T Buy Love: Asymmetric Beliefs In Money Can't Buy Love: Asymmetric Beliefs about Gift Price and Feelings of Appreciation by Francis Flynn and Gabrielle Adams, they talk deeply about the amount of gifts that people buy. For instance millions of Americans are always buying items and gifts every single day. It is especially this way during the month of December when shoppers "spent over $30 billion at retail stores"(Flynn and Adams 5). The massive amount of shopping for gifts for people who may not even like them is considered a bad habit to economists. People buy things for people who wouldn't normally buy those things to begin with. It represents a waste in resources and is "referred to as 'the deadweight loss of Christmas'" which is because people tend to overspend on gifts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Dr. Martin Luther King Day: A Day Of Volunteering Volunteering is good for the mind, body, and soul. For some of us, it is hard to find the time. Becoming creative and doing what you deem a little can be BIG for another. Dr. Martin Luther King said, "Life's most persistent and urgent questions is "What are you doing for others?" We can donate used but good condition clothing to local non–profits; we can donate food to food drives; that is generosity and helping (and if that is all you have time for then continue to do so). But I believe Dr. King is right when we get out into the community and connect with those who need a little more help and meet them eye to eye are lives changed for the good. • 6. Educating Volunteer With The Elderly In my home town they have started two very well known organizations that were designed to help the children in the community. These two organizations are known as Kids First and WeCare. The heads of these organizations hold silent auctions, radio auctions, and clothes and food drives to donate to families within the community who are not able to afford to purchase these items on their own budgets. There are to girls who decided that they wanted to help the lower income families within our community and within their own school systems. These two girls, who happen to be sisters, started a coat and blanket drive to host at their school which they hold every year. Goodwill is an organization in which people donate unwanted items for other people to buy at a lower cost than brand new items from a store. Not only can people help by donating but they can also help by buying items from the stores too. According to the organization's Website, Goodwill is a non–profit organization that spends about eighty–three cents on every dollar they make on programs and services for those in need ("Think Before You Donate," 2015, para. ). Goodwill not only benefits the community in which they are located in, but also on a national level all around the nation. Another nation–wide organization that several people participate in is Operation Christmas Child. This is one organization that is simple, not too costly, and still extremely effective for those who receive it. For those donating, it's as simple as filling a shoebox with items for either a boy or a girl, marking it for a specific age group and dropping it off at a specified location. This organization mainly targets children whose parents cannot afford to give them presents or sometimes the necessities they need. These shoe boxes may be the only thing that a child receives around Christmas time. Taking a small amount of time out of the day and buying the items to fill the shoebox is just a small price to pay to help someone in need. • 7. Crucial Issues In Our World Since time immemorial, humans have been helping each other in hard situations. There is a famous saying from Gandhi, who says: "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." Nowadays, it is one of the most crucial issues in our world, so we can see a vast number of charities with various purposes everywhere. For instance, some of them are for fighting against cancer or other illnesses, some for helping hungry and homeless people, and above all, war victims. There are different opinions on the best way to apply this worthy cause. To put this subject into perspective, perhaps it would be better to look objectively at two major ideas on this contentious matter. On the one hand, some people believe that charity begins ... • 8. Rhetorical Analysis Of Why Lunch Ladies Are Heroes Jarrett Krosoczka presented a Technology, Education, Design (TED) Talk on July 2014 titled "Why Lunch Ladies are Heroes." He presented his purpose, to get society to thank people more often, to an upper class audience. Krosoczka hopes that by thanking a person each and everyday we can make an impact in others lives. This idea is shown through him telling a story about how his thank you changed a lunch ladies life. Krosoczka does a fantastic job at persuading readers by pulling at their heart strings, playfully speaking to the audience, and allowing people of all ages to be able to listen to his powerful speech. In this speech, Pathos which is persuading a person with emotional pity is developed. Krosoczka uses his school lunch lady as an example. It made his speech more frustrating rather than "sweet," and from the heart. It makes the audience feel like they have never truly impacted a person's life unless they have thanked person. Also he made it seem like the upper class never thank their workers below them, which is not always the truth. This pulls away from why it is important to give someone credit for their hard work, when he is nagging on others for not doing so. Although a strength in his argument is that he did say not many people thank lunch ladies, which is most likely true. He believes everyone should be thanked for their hard work, but lunch ladies rarely are. Krosoczka stated, "the lunch lady has not been treated very kindly in popular culture over time" (Krosoczka 1:44). He mentioned how lunch ladies feed our children, which helps them learn they are never noticed though. What he is trying to get at is to thank the people that are not as noticeable, that are hard workers too. Which doing so can change a person's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Donating Community Analysis "It is a denial of justice not to stretch out a helping hand to the fallen, that is the common right of humanity." Expressed Seneca the elder, a roman rhetorician and writer. Although some people may think donating to their local communities is incorrect, there are numerous reasons why citizens should consider donating. Donating helps people without the basic necessities of life, improves academics and also helps beautify the community. More American citizens should donate to help and improve their community. With citizens donating, poor American families can be supported and cared for. • 11. Salvation Military Research Paper There are many opportunities to give back to people every day. It could be the time you give someone or something they need to sustain them, and keep them going. The fundamentals of giving back are often seen through charity work or even so much as donating a few items of clothing. I, however, decided to devote my time to feeding the homeless through the Salvation Army. One day, while sitting in church listening to our Pastor give a sermon about helping others I felt something inside me that made me talk to my friend and her husband about something we could do to help others. While doing our research we found out that The Salvation Army can only accommodate a certain amount of people and because of this, many people lie under bridges, on benches around town, and in or near abandoned buildings.... We were very nervous about just walking up to people and passing these things out, the idea of a stranger coming up to you and handing you items is a scary thought in itself, but being on the other end is even scarier because you don't know how others will react. But we did it. and found that they were very grateful for things we bought and were very thankful that we took the time out of our day to come to help them. We made many more trips downtown to drop off things as we received them. After about a month and a half making two to three trips downtown to hand out these items was tiring, but the reactions these people had, and the kindness we received as we made our drop offs was a reward in ... I love doing this because it can help anyone, since I have O– blood it can be donated to anyone. I always feel superior knowing I helped save a life and one day I know someone is going to help me. It's the whole giving and getting back thing because it's not about donation, it's about making a difference. Benefits Of Donating To The Homeless As the holidays roll around we often think of what presents to give our loved ones, what food to prepare for the family get together, or the hopefulness for a white Christmas full of joy for the whole family. Though all these are reasonably rewarding in their own way from getting the family together to receiving gifts that you have always wanted, have you ever thought about just how rewarding it would be to possibly save a person`s life just by giving them some clothing? • 15. The Solution And World Poverty Many have been in a situation where they were asked if they would like to donate to a foundation of some sort. We have all had an opportunity to help or ignore. Which is the main problem in the article "The Solution to World Poverty." Peter Singer, the author of this article gives various examples on how people act in a situation relating to poverty. He uses examples from a movie called Central Station and a book by Peter Unger called Living High and Letting Die. These examples were life and death situations that emphasized on his main point. This article shows how passion the author is about donating to children. He has touched me personally by reminding me of my own experiences of donating to charities. There were some major points in his article that I agree and disagreed with and that is what my article is based on. My paper shows the major points I choice to discuss like my disagreements and experiences with donating. My paper is responding to Singer, on how people deserve rewards for their hard work, about adults living in poverty as well as children and how giving is an act of kindness. While reading this article, I read a quote and the author believes, "Going out to nice restaurants, buying new clothes because the old ones are no longer stylish, vacationing at beach resorts––so much of our income is spent on things not essential to the preservation of our lives and health." Have you ever wondered how many people and countries around the world are suffering from poverty and crisis? Your answer should be yes. Quite a few years ago a British journalist called John Langdon– Davie founded this Charity in 1937. This Charity started off for the children in Spain whose lives got ruined by the Spanish Civil War. After that by 1938 around 300 Spanish children were getting help by this plan. For example, World Refugee Crisis, over 60 million people around the world mostly children who have experienced and seen disturbing things that they shouldn't have seen are going through this. These children are the reason Plan Canada is going out directly in countries like: Syria, South Sudan, South America, and the Central African Republic to help the children in need. With our donations we will be able to help them in quickest possible time in order to save lives, we will be able to quickly to provide shelter, food, water. Every day, on average, twenty people die because they are too far from the top of the list, their "need" for survival is not high enough. These people need organs, and it is on us to help. It takes just one of us to save as many as eight people on the list. People need to be educated on organ donation and the opportunities it creates rather than a hasty decision that is made when you apply for your driver's license. ("Data | UNOS") You can choose to give yourself to multiple people or even donate yourself to science. Many people have a fear that medical staff will not work as hard to save them because they are donors, which is not the case. Their job is to save lives so that is their first priority in any case. ("10 Myths about Organ Donation") The family will also be consulted before anything is removed from you to confirm your decision. Your family will also be notified of what organs were donated and offered support such as counseling or bereavement. • 19. Reflection Paper On Spirit Of Giving The Spirit of giving requires to give time and loyalty to any activity that helps better our community or other humane things around us. I participated in helping to make a charity walk for Crohn's and Colitis successful with a couple of my peers. So much happened in six hours of volunteering it began with confusion of what to do to lots of fun with the children I was interacting with in my stand. A charity walk was the perfect way to feel involved into the community, I received a very meaningful experience while I was helping out at the charity walk. I am proud to say that I enjoyed my time organizing awareness of Crohn's and Colitis and involving with my community. There was so much confusion from me at the beginning when I got to the setting of the charity walk which was at Woodward park. I was eager to find out what I was going to do while at the charity and how I was going to feel involved with the activity. As time passed I began to feel more comfortable and not at all shy and bored. There was actually points when I got lost in what I was supposed to be doing at the moment but I began to just go with it, it was so easy because I had a children's stand which I like to interact because they're so sweet. This experience was all about the gratefulness I felt while volunteering and how happy I was to participate in a charity walk for a good cause. Honestly I've never felt this helpful to spread awareness of a cause that needs so much help to be known much more and funded. The only thing that actually mattered was feeling passionate about volunteering in this walk and I put so much effort into this activity. I volunteered for six hours although it felt asthe time passed really quick due to how much I loved working at the children's stand. I helped set up all the different stand from the beginning when nobody has arrived. There was so much action while trying to set up everything perfectly and trying to make it look extra presentable for the participants in the walk. The stand my peers and I put extra work was our own and we set up fun games to entertain the children. The children had so much fun when my peers and I would paint their faces with different designs we had and they kept coming back. Not only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Does Effective Altruism Matter? It is not a matter of who is responsible, but rather who is willing. Growing up in the church, I have learned that the size of the donation does not matter; it is the heart that gives. The article states that "effective altruism is not a plot to guilt the rich into asceticism," an extreme rejection of worldly things, but rather maximize altruist efforts. Effective altruism does not designate any group responsible, but rather creates a mindset to inspire all economic classes to maximize their good. For example, the "1 percent rule" encourages the middle class – individuals whose income is greater than $52,000 a year – to donate 1% of their income to double the happiness of someone who makes equivalent to that 1%. • 21. The Theme of Violence in Cage Bird, Giving Blood, Sand... This semester in American Literature I have read and analyzed various literary works. The reoccurring theme throughout the works is violence. I have came to the conclusion that the significance of violence throughout the various works is that the group or individual singled out throughout the works is the victim of violence because the enemy has something to gain from the victim. The literary works, Caged Bird, Giving Blood, Sand Creek, and An Episode of War demonstrate this. For example, Caged Bird by Maya Angelou demonstrates how a personal struggle can become a form of violence. Angelou, an African American has a troubled childhood and as a result of her parents divorce she is sent to live with her grandmother at a young age. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Historically there have been racial tensions between white's and Native Americans. This resulted in massacres of Native American's. The violence reflected in this short story is the denial of the blood donation of the man and the massacre of the Native Americans by white's. The massacre was a gain for white's because it eliminated the Native American's who were seen as a threat to the white's way of life. Another example of discrimination resulting in violence is reflected in the poem Sand Creek, by Simon Ortiz. The poem is told from the point of view of an Indian who reflects on the brutality of Indian deaths by the Anglos. The poem is a historical reference to the Sand Creek massacre, which occurred in 1864 when a US military militia massacred a group of Indians who presented themselves as friendly near a fort. At the conclusion of the poem the author emphasizes that things will improve stating that, "There are flowers, and new grass, and a spring wind rising from Sand Creek" (2). The author also states that things will change for the people of Indian decent. The violence throughout the poem is the Anglos massacring the Indians just because they could. • 23. Persuasive Essay On Volunteering eather French Henry once said, "Volunteering is at the very core of being a human, no one has made it in life without someone else's help," (Volunteering Solutions 3). Similarly, the butterfly is a very small natural force which over a period of time gains a cumulatively large effect that produces great beauty. This phenomenon begins first with insurmountable struggles and works its way through a snarled mess of webbing and eventually takes flight. With every effort, the first step in volunteering is usually the hardest. However, once the intention is set, the flight of volunteering takes off. In fact, many scholars over the years have argued over how involved an individual should be in one's community. Some believe the largest reward a person can achieve from giving their time and money to the good of their community is the satisfaction, accomplishment, and pride that comes from within. Ultimately, an individual's role should be founded on one's ability to be impactful to their community, this impact can be quick or long lasting but in the end, the results of volunteering demonstrate leadership and stewardship which through example inspires others to do the same, creating a better place for all to live. The purpose of giving stems from the ability of each individual to be impactful with their own actions. Through the action of giving to one's community, the meaning of the action does not lie in how much money or how much volunteering is produced, rather how much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jennifer Taylor Circle Summary In the short story "circle" by Jennifer Taylor, the theme that kindness is like a gift in the way that it is easy to receive, but you have to have some heart to give it, is revealed though the character's actions, a significant passage and the title of the story. In "Circle," and elderly woman is in need of help and is assisted by a kind deed from a man. Seeing the heart he had, she returns the favor to a pregnant and suffering waitress. Throughout the story, the main character's actions, a significant passage, and the title of the story all contribute to conveying the theme that that you choose whether or not to give the gift of kindness. So far, no one has had the heart to come and assist Mary Ann with her situation until Joe comes. Joe's actions of changing Mary Ann's tire when the rain is falling further proves that Joe's actions further verifies the theme. Another example is when, "What do I owe you?...On no ma'am. A quote that really captures the true meaning of reciprocity is, "People gave with the expectation of taking and took with the expectation of giving" (Harris 1989). This is seen across many different cultures and time periods. Nevertheless, they are not all the same, and may not generate equivalent types of relationships, for social and personal value. In this essay we will look at two separate acts of reciprocity; how they work, and what they provide. First, a look into the Gebusi sister–exchange, and then into the Kawelka's moka ceremony. Among the Kawelka tribe, reciprocity serves as a way of "gaining prestige and shaming rivals" (Cronk 1988). This form of exchange serves as way of social superiority. Their ritual is called the moka; this is a very important ceremony to their tribe. "The reason why Ongka so wanted to give his big moka, is that only by giving can he earn fame and status for his tribe and for him" (Niarn 1974). The moka ceremony is a formal interaction in which one man gives more than he received from another, as a pay back of debt, as well as a trump to their social status. However, the return of the moka cannot happen after a long period of time, doing so immediately would serve as a desire to cut the strings and end the relationship. It is expected that the debt will be repaid when the time comes, if it is not the one who has not repaid the debt will lose their support and status as a 'big–man". The goal of the moka is to eventually become a "big–man", also known as a tribal leader (Cronk 1988). After one big moka was thrown by Ongka, that included several hundreds of pigs, a truck, thousands of dollars and more, he told the recipient of his moka, "I have won. Whether or not all gifts carry the obligation of reciprocity is characterized by the gift's cultural context. The Gift: The Form and the Reason for Exchange in Archaic Societies, (1925) Marcel Mauss' ethnographic book, presents the necessity of reciprocation through analysing the gift giving practices of the Maori and the Kwakiutl. Jonathan Parry revisits Mauss' theory in his essay, "The Gift, the Indian Gift and the 'Indian Gift'," (1986) addressing its connection as well as contradiction to the Hindu law of gift giving. The obligation to reciprocate is based on the belief that the recipient receives and possesses something that belongs to the donor (Mauss 1925: 17). In reciprocating a gift, Mauss explains that the receiver balances and restores the hau of the first gift to its origin (Mauss 1925: 15–17). Moreover, the potlatch, the North American Indian practice of exchanging gifts competitively, is characterized by themes of rivalry and destruction, requiring one to reciprocate or risk losing authority (Mauss 1925: 11–12). In Northeast Siberia and among the Eskimos of West Alaska, the exchange of gifts is imbued with additional spiritual significance (Mauss 1925: 18–19). In destroying by sacrifice, as in the potlach, the people are fulfilling their obligations to the gods, to whom they owe their use of the land (Mauss 1925: 20–21). Marcel Mauss asserts this exchange of gifts between the humans and the gods is a necessary element of buying peace between them (Mauss 1925: 21). Mauss argues that reciprocation is a mandatory element of gift giving because of the social contract that is formed by the first gift, which contains in it the donor's spirit (Mauss 1925: 14–21). We can see Mauss' theory at work today in western society when we obligated to bring back gifts from a holiday for a friend who has already done the same for us. • 35. Persuasive Essay On Poverty Poverty, it is an unfortunate circumstance that happens from the town you live in, to the other side of the globe. About 1.4 billion people are currently living in extreme poverty across the globe, that is roughly 20% of the world's population (Singer 9). I will begin this essay by summarizing and explaining Peter Singer's, an Australian ethic philosopher, basicargument that it is immoral not to give to effective charities, an idea I agree with. After that, I will bring to attention two objections to this argument and show how these objections fail. To begin explaining the argument, this thought experiment will help bring the logic into play. In concise terms, Singer asks, what should you do if you see a young child drowning in a small pond and you have brand new shoes on that will get messed up from the water (3)? Most people will say that they will help the young child in need, a pair of shoes is not nearly as significant as a life. Many thought experiments like this show how people should be willing to give up things that are not merely as important as another's livelihood. In a greater perspective, millions of people all across the globe need help to make it through the day. Charities can make this help possible by us being able to donate time or money that is not nearly as important as saving lives. When talking about charities, it is meant that these are effective ones that make the most use out of the money given to them. The idea of helping people in need is in line with the first premise of Singer's argument, which is that "suffering and death from lack of food, shelter, and medical care are bad" (15). The second premise states that "if it is in your power to prevent something bad from happening, without sacrificing anything nearly as important, it is wrong not to do so" (Singer 15). This idea goes beyond helping within your physical reach, help needed from large distances away can be just as important as help nearby. The last premise of this argument is that you can donate to acharity to prevent something bad from happening, without sacrificing much at all (Singer 15). For example, giving up Starbucks coffee for a week can save multiple lives by giving that money to charities. These three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Moka is a ritual of gifting in tribes of the Mount Hagen area in Papua New Guinea. Pigs as well as other live stocks, cassowaries, scarce pearl shells, and as the modern civilization gradually penetrates into the tribes, cash and automobiles are given away at the ceremony. Giving away food and gifts is translated to status and rank. The greater the value of the gifts and the scale of the feast are, the greater the power it brings to the host of the moka. The receiver of the gift is better off in a utilitarian sense, if he chooses not to return the favor. Yet why does he have the desire to repay? Why does receiving a gift put him at a social disadvantage? The economy of gift of Bataille differs from Nietzsche's creditor–debtor relationship with regard to the psychology behind these two dynamics. While Bataille delved into the mentality of the giver, who has the upper hand in this power relation, Nietzsche focused on the psychology of the debtor. Bataille construed the economy of gifting as an act out of man's "animal factor" that goes beyond the want of acquisition – a human instinct to win and to overpower. It is in man's nature to covet "prestige, glory and rank" (Bataille, 1997, p. 376), yet they do not come without comparison and competition. Thus, the giver of the gift has to deliberately create a rivalry, and thus, an inequality that favors himself in order to acquire prestige, glory and rank. It is this desire for superiority that gives man the ultimate incentive to give away his wealth. Gifting is to win by losing. It also explains the increment value in the return of the gift, for the receiver of the initial gift not only wants to recover his equality with the initial giver, but also to overpower him, to defeat him. The same desire that fuels the endless cycle of gifting rituals like moka and potlatch. One good potlatch deserves another, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Texas Tech University Application Research Paper Throughout my life, I have most definitely been driven to assist my community or others in need. I have been able to set aside time and put forth effort when it was necessary. Along my years in junior high and high school, I have assisted my community by collecting cans for our local food bank, providing food for our veterans, cleaning the church area, helping with local food fundraisers, taking down Christmas trees for the public, and other activities. This has affected me in an influential way and made me realize that devoting time to other activities or people is greatly appreciated and beneficial. Although there may not be a reward given, the simple satisfaction of knowing you volunteered willingly is enough. For my future, I wish to attend Texas Tech University and take the required courses in order to attain a masters degree in nursing. With this degree, it will allow me to pursue a career in the medical field to become a certified nurse midwife. Because I will be continuing my education in the Lubbock area, I intend to begin my career and maintain an occupation in the same area. However, I would be more than willing to move wherever my job would take me.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 40. Analysis Of The Singer Solution To World Poverty By Peter... Poverty in Children Peter Singer the author of the story "The Singer Solution to World Poverty" which talks about how humans are selfish and spend their extra money on luxuries instead of donating it to charities to help starving children. Singer rambles back and forth how greedy we are and tries to make us feel guilty for those innocent starving children. Children that we suddenly have to care about just because they're almost dead "Children" are the ones to care about in this situation instead of spending our money on whatever we want we have to spend it on children you might as well have children of your own if you're doing that. In a way when you donate money to a charity you're just giving up your extra but like having a child your giving up extra for others Why would I give my hard–earned cash to some five–year–old across the planet when someone closer and richer could do the same and let me be so I can enjoy my wealth. I agree but I also disagree with Singer that the starving children need to be saved, but I don't think this is the right solution to fixing the problem because it can cause more problems for everyone over a course of years. Singer is just trying to persuade us by saying "children are starving do something don't be selfish and keep your money on you it makes you look bad" I don't really see it as "bad" if you're being smart with your money and not greedy there's a big difference between the two and for even saying that I don't want to give my money to ...
