Conjunctions And, But, Or, So
- Clearly prepared lesson in advance, providing
worksheets and video along with lecture--all focused on
the topic, Conjunctions.
- Used a variety of materials to deliver the lesson (video
and traditional instruction).
- Consider including more formal formative assessment
into the lesson. When students provide their own
examples of the grammar point being learned, have
them write them down or write it on the screen so they
can see their work and see it being corrected, when
necessary. This will aid learning.
- Asks the students to repeat their sentences, helping
them to practice.
- Corrects students when they use incorrect grammar.
-Gives the students a lot of examples and a lot of
opportunity to try making their own sentences.
- To warm up, asked students the same basic question
(“What are your weekend plans?”) and had each student
answer.
- Calls on students individually to give examples after
learning each grammar point.
- Incorporated worksheet for the lesson to give students
more opportunity to practice.
- When students give examples to demonstrate understanding, consider writing
each answer down in front of them and correcting on the screen—this will allow
students to understand their mistakes more.
- Rather than say “Tell me words you don’t understand," show sentences and ask
them what it means. Or fill in the blank. Test comprehension rather than ask
comprehension. Especially for videos that are very long—it may overwhelm
students.

- Calls on students frequently to make sure they’re
participating.
- Slowed down video when it was clear the students did
not understand the video that well, demonstrating
awareness of class dynamics.
- Consider incorporating other types of activities in pairs or groups so that
the lesson isn’t solely lecture and worksheet.
- Be aware that students often struggle with technology. Putting the
worksheet in the chat box may be too complicated for them. Instead, go
through the exercises together. Or ask each student to type their answer
for a question into the chat while looking at the worksheet on the screen.
- Most students are eager to participate.
- Students seem to understand basic commands like
“Repeat,” so the class runs smoothly.
- Lesson is organized, starting with a review of
conjunctions, moving to in-class practice and then a
worksheet.
- Calls on all students equally
- Uses annotation tool to draw on PDFs and show correct
answers.
- Has a positive, energetic presence—gives positive
encouragement when students do something well.
- Used Microsoft Word to clearly give lesson on
conjunctions.
- Used a video to supplement instruction.
- Consider typing the sentences you’re currently typing in the chat onto
the Microsoft Word Doc on your screen so that they can see it in bigger
font. Especially when you’re correcting them.

Danny, you are a very professional teacher with a positive affect and organized approach in the classroom. It was great to see so many of your students engaged with the
lesson, and the many materials you assembled for the lesson were well-thought-out.
In terms of area of improvement, I would encourage you to think a little more on the formative assessment aspect of the lesson. As I suggest above, writing out the
students' answers on your screen and correcting it in front of them will help them to understand more. Testing comprehension rather than asking if they understand is also
highly recommended so that you can get a better sense of how they're actually mastering the grammar or not. Finally, if you assign a worksheet, make sure you carefully
explain and demonstrate how to download and fill it out, as many students struggle with technology.
