‘The
Cards’
• We chose to use a card game within our music
video as it showed that we acknowledged the
lyrics of the song. “Fortune and Fame”, was a
major line that we wanted to focus on which
allowed us to incorporate the card game. This
would allow us to use various camera angles and
shots from close ups of the cards to tracking shot
of Alex (the boyfriend), around the table to get his
bottle opened. This allows the audience to
understand the plot as we have created a ‘Boys
night in’. This will portray he isn’t taking the
relationship as seriously as LUNA would want him
to and that is making the tension within the couple.
Also, the use of poker chips and cards illustrates
that he betting money which may resemble to the
audience that he is vulnerable to losing it all.
‘Ripping the photo’
• The ripping of the polaroid photo within the
narrative is a crucial part of the video as it
portrays to the audience that the
relationship is over. We have it in with
LUNA ripping the photo to show that it
means more to her than it does to the
male. Also due to most of the narrative
being based around the male we wanted
to incorporate LUNA into the narrative by
showing her feelings towards the
relationship she was involved in.
‘Polaroid Pictures’
• We chose to use polaroid pictures to allow
the audience to understand the background
story as well as the relationship without
portraying it within the video. For example
seeing both LUNA and her boyfriend hugging
in a photo clearly shows that there
relationship has been good within the past.
We chose to take a lot of photos to then be
able to vary our intentions for what the
audience interpreted. For example, the use of
a dog allowed the audience to realise they
were situated within a family environment as
well as the connection they both had. The
use of them cuddling on the sofa allowed us
to use mise en scene to develop the
‘Torn Polaroid
Photo’
• The use of the torn polaroid picture was so
we could represent the relationship
deteriate. The filming starts with polaroid
pictures that are of the couple close within
there relationship as well as them cuddled
up on the sofa aswell as a couples portrait.
However, to finish this sequence with a
torn photograph then it’ll clearly illustrate
that there relationship isn’t positive.
‘Lights’
• We chose to use the lights within our video
to not only separate the narrative from the
studio shots in certain parts however it
was also used to show the passing of
time. With the use of the studio lights
flashing it allowed the audience to think
that we have changed time from the day to
the boys night in. Also we chose to put
different coloured gels on the lights to
make it more unique and have a more
professional effect. We decided to use
blue, red and yellow gels for this shot.
‘Luna playing with
hair’
• We asked LUNA to play with her hair and
make hand gestures when performing to
the camera. This will allow her to create
the pop stereotype that the video is always
about the artist. The use of the gestures
create a sense of aggression within her
performance at times aswell as
desperation asking, ‘what do you want
from me, I have given you everything.’
‘Change of
costumes’
• The changing of costumes allowed the
audience to feel a sense of reality within
the performance. It broke up the studio
shots allowing LUNA to change angle or
change the height of the camera making it
varied when she sung. This was useful to
us as we could then easily jump cut shot
zooming it in and then back out and she
would have changed outfits.
‘Luna looking for her
boyfriend’
• We wanted LUNA to look out from the
front door to make it look like she is
waiting for her boyfriend to come back
after the argument they have just had.
However, we decided to change it a little to
make it seem like time had gone by and
she had obviously been waiting up for him
and then she goes to the door. This shows
her emotion towards the male figure and
that although they have argued he still
means a lot to her for her to go to the door
and look out.
‘The
Car’
• With the use of the car its evident that the
male figure gets a friend to come and pick
him up immediately after the argument he
has with LUNA. This allows the audience
to see he moves away from the situation
with her however he then turns up to the
party later in the same car with other boys.
This shows the continuity of the video.
This allows us to realise that the male
figure had enough of LUNA and wanted to
forget about her with a boys night.
