2. A- PURPOSE AND AUDIENCE
Directed By - Greta Nash in 2018 in Australia
The purpose of the film is to make you think about how important it is to stay on
the side of your friends even when you know what they’re doing is wrong. In the
film, Carla has to make a tough decision between supporting what her guy friends
are doing, or stick up for girls and tell on her friends. It can make you think about
what you would do in those situations and provoke emotions.
The target audience for the film would be teenagers of both genders because it
included themes that they could relate too, and challenges they face on an
everyday basic. It would also be anyone from the NRS scale, because it isn’t
directed at anyone in particular and can be suited to all types of people. I think its
most likely to be aimed atThe struggler andThe mainstream, because they’re most
likely to be able to empathise the characters.
3. FORM, STYLE AND GENRE
This is a short film onYoutube.
You can tell that most of the film was filmed with a hand held camera, this is
because the camera moves with the people and is slightly shaky. This is done to
make you feel like a part of the action, as if you’re another person in the scene
witnessing the action. The Director has exhibited the film onYouTube.
The film is slightly dull and faded which makes the tone of the film more dark and
negative, which links to the theme.
The genre of the film is drama/teen, the codes and conventions to indicate this are,
that there is a problem and a dilemma that the main character faces and is trying to
solve and that it is surrounding teenagers. The key scene that would show this is
when Carla looks at the boys computer and he walks in a catches her looking,
because that’s a stereotypical thing to happen in a drama.
4. CONTENT AND MEANING
Mise en scene:
In the scene where they’re all in the bedroom, they’re all wearing their uniform, indicating
that they’ve just come from school, they’re also set in one of the boys bedrooms showing
that they’re not in an open public space where others can see them. The lighting is fairly dull
like the rest of the scene and the colour is fairly neutral.
Cinematography:
Most of the film is shot using med shots, with the exception of a few shots as close ups or
long shots to build tension, or give you a wider view of what's happening.
Sound:
The sound of the film is pretty standard and there isn’t and special effects.
Structure/Narrative:
The structure and narrative of the film follows a regular pattern like you would expect it to.
5. FREQUENCY AND PRODUCTION PROCESS
This is only a stand alone film and isn’t a part of a series.
For the production process it would have been fairly simple. They would have has to
make sure that they weren’t copywriting anyone or anything. They would also have
planned where they were filming, on what day and with what equipment.
The director would have made aYouTube account and posted it on there for
viewing
