Vampire diaries analysis tv
1. Vampire Diaries Script Analysis - TV
Style: This script follows the typical
style of a script with a description
followed by dialogue. The script is
written in a way that sounds like how it
would be spoken. This allows the
audience to see the realism in it as
bumping into someone by accident is
always going to be awkward.
Content: Vampire Diaries is an American
series shown on The CW, and premiered in
2009 with 8 series. It is set in
Virginia, and follows the life of Elena
Gilbert as she discovers vampires,
werewolves and witches.
Narrative Structure: Vampire Diaries
follows the Todorov Theory with the five
stages, (Equilibrium, Disequilibrium,
recognition of Disequilibrium, attempt
to repair disequilibrium and a new
Equilibrium). Every episode follows this
pattern and then repeats when a new
episode starts.
Genre: I think the genre would be
thriller/fantasy. It follows Daniel
Chandler’s genre theory with typical
conventions of these genres such as:
blood, vampires, witches, werewolves,
spells and suspense.
Target Audience: The main target
audience would be middle class,
teenagers and young adults from A to
C1 on the NRS scale. I think the
characters set the target audience
because the viewers would be around
the same age as the characters in the
show. The show is centred around a
group of teenagers in high school, so
the audience will to empathise them,
meaning they will be teenagers to get
the problems that they are going
through. On the 4Cs model the target
audience will be the mainstream
because the audience will be teenagers
who are going about their normal life
facing similar problems to the
characters apart from all the fantasy
elements.
