SSP policies are designed to ensure a healthy and safe learning environment. Three notable policies at SSP are detailed below.
Healthy Eating policy
The Seisia community strongly values healthy living for a healthy community. SSP supports this view, demonstrated through initiatives such as the
school's 'Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds' program. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is associated with better academic performance (Queensland Health,
2004; Rausch, 2013).
SSP Healthy Eating policy is guided by the Healthy Food and Drink Supply Strategy for Queensland Schools (Queensland Health, 2004). Foods and

learning styles. Despite strong support for learning models based on explicit instruction in indigenous schools (e.g. Chilcott & Vonow, 2014; DETE,
2014c; Walker, 2014), Luke (2014) questions whether the basic skills gained from approaches based on explicit instruction alone are adequate for
sustained gains in achievement. Yunkaporta & McGinty (2009) identify six quality teaching pedagogies for indigenous children: self–direction,
self–regulation, social support, connectedness to the world, narrative and cultural knowledge. 'The 8 Aboriginal Ways of Learning' is a pedagogy
framework enabling teachers to use recognised Aboriginal learning techniques to enhance Aboriginal perspectives in learning (cited in Purdie, Milgate
& Bell, 2011) (Figure 6).

"It is important for teachers to use developmentally and individually appropriate strategies that take into consideration children's differing needs,
interests, styles, and abilities" (Ostrosky & Jung, 2004, p. 2) is a truthful and respected statement for teachers and parents to clearly understand how
the quality of teaching holds the key for a child's future. What a teacher brings into the room, being a matter of mood or approach, can undeniably
affect the child in a positive or negative sense. This is my child's life, their future, and their well–being that I am responsible for and entrusting this
same responsibility to another, to be pursued faithfully. Dependent on the relationship and trust the teacher develops with my child can ensure a
positive holistic outcome. This leads me back to the Te WhДЃriki and the principles, strands, and goals that form the curriculum and how the teacher

I found choosing a centre that abided by the Te WhДЃriki curriculum assured and supported my personal values and beliefs about early childhood

around them. Certainly educating children is not a matter of flooding the market needs and fulfillment. According to Singh (2007), in the progressive
changing world, learners need the capability to deal with the indeterminable future. In point of fact, a conventional wisdom pinpoints that a "holistic
education" approach tackles all aspects of human challenges (p. 107) in life. Then, he went on to ask, whether an education, support learners to create

getting the right answer; mechanisms such as reflecting and having an enquiring mind are supressed. Holts (1966) suggests children had to "teach him
before he could begin to teach them" (p.22), he emphasises the importance of teachers observing, listening, and encouraging creative ways of being.
This philosophy sits very comfortably with the Montessori Method of teaching. As mentioned earlier directors must be a "guide" observing children in

As a teacher of literature, I hope I will not "spoon feed" interpretation to my students and, instead, give them just a little appetizer to make them
hungry enough to nourish their own interpretive skills. I believe the most effective teachers adhere to the five tenets of constructivist teaching by
seeking students' points of view, structuring lessons to challenge students' suppositions, recognizing that students must attach relevance to the
curriculum, structuring lessons around big ideas instead of tidbits of information, and assessing student learning in the context of classroom
investigations rather than as separate events (Brooks & Brooks 21). None of this will be easy, of course, and I may often feel like that boy on the
beach tackling that pile of stranded starfish. However, as George Wood points out in Schools that Work, "there has [always] been a person or persons
who began the process of developing a school vision" (235). If someone has to start a new trend in education, a dedicated teacher will not sit around
waiting for that someone to be "someone else."

Architects are now called upon to create designs that provide social change, improve the health of a building's inhabitants, increase equality and in
general improve social life (Dutton and Mann 1996 in Woodward 2007, 3). Bioclimatic design falls within this brief as it priviledges designs that are at

However, until recently technical aspects of producing bioclimatic designs were ceded to specialist–trained engineers in the field of Bioclimatics
(Altomonte 2009, 13). Thus, keeping architectural education focused on its long–held traditions of culture, emotion and improving the landscape. This
ensures that there is a continued gap between the traditional education of new architects and the education of principles of bioclimatic design. Which
makes it difficult for architects to incorporate bioclimatic principles into their final designs.
Njuguna (1997, 356) further confirming this, finding that 95% of students believed that their education did not prepare them for a climate responsive

Healthy Eating policy The Seisia community strongly values healthy living for a healthy community. SSP supports this view, demonstrated through initiatives such as the school's 'Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds' program. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is associated with better academic performance (Queensland Health, 2004; Rausch, 2013). SSP Healthy Eating policy is guided by the Healthy Food and Drink Supply Strategy for Queensland Schools (Queensland Health, 2004).
