SSP policies are designed to ensure a healthy and safe learning environment. Three notable policies at SSP are detailed below.
Healthy Eating policy
The Seisia community strongly values healthy living for a healthy community. SSP supports this view, demonstrated through initiatives such as the
school's 'Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds' program. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is associated with better academic performance (Queensland Health,
2004; Rausch, 2013).
SSP Healthy Eating policy is guided by the Healthy Food and Drink Supply Strategy for Queensland Schools (Queensland Health, 2004). Foods and

"It is important for teachers to use developmentally and individually appropriate strategies that take into consideration children's differing needs,
interests, styles, and abilities" (Ostrosky & Jung, 2004, p. 2) is a truthful and respected statement for teachers and parents to clearly understand how
the quality of teaching holds the key for a child's future. What a teacher brings into the room, being a matter of mood or approach, can undeniably
affect the child in a positive or negative sense. This is my child's life, their future, and their well–being that I am responsible for and entrusting this

A Lesson from Abroad As a global superpower the United States has always strived to excel in every aspect of global competition, for instance,
Olympic sports and technological advances. Education is also increasingly competitive. But according to results from The Program for International
Student Assessment (PISA), a survey administered every three years to internationally compare education systems, over the past decade we have been
seemingly falling behind other nations. Finland has maintained the highest overall scores since the first assessment in 2000, while the U.S. has
maintained average to below average scores (Dall, 2012).
Curious as to what has caused the differences in scores between the U.S. and Finland, I investigated their policies in education. To my surprise,
Finland's system is remarkably developed and consistent in its efficiency, setting a great example for the U.S. to follow. In order for the U.S. to achieve

In John Holt's very interesting book "How Children Fail" (1966 ) he poses the concept that although children love learning they don't like being
thought. He argues children thought in traditional ways become "unintelligent" (p56). They strive for teacher approval by focusing importance on
getting the right answer; mechanisms such as reflecting and having an enquiring mind are supressed. Holts (1966) suggests children had to "teach him
before he could begin to teach them" (p.22), he emphasises the importance of teachers observing, listening, and encouraging creative ways of being.
This philosophy sits very comfortably with the Montessori Method of teaching. As mentioned earlier directors must be a "guide" observing children in

As a teacher of literature, I hope I will not "spoon feed" interpretation to my students and, instead, give them just a little appetizer to make them
hungry enough to nourish their own interpretive skills. I believe the most effective teachers adhere to the five tenets of constructivist teaching by

Black Student Enrollment at The University of Texas at Austin
An unstated mission of UT Austin is to educate Texans and enroll a student body that is as rich and diverse as the state of Texas. However, closer
examination of the institution's history and current make–up highlights the pressing constraints and experiences of its Black students. UT Austin is
known for its ongoing political battles and hyper–regulated admissions policies in areas of access and "affirmative action". These notably include:
Sweatt v Painter (1950), which challenged "separate but equal" admissions practices and essentially integrated UT Austin
Hopwood v Texas (1996), which eliminated the use ofrace and ethnicity in admissions, recruitment, retention, scholarship, and other practices
House Bill 588 (1997), which attempted to mitigate the impact of Hopwood by establishing the Top Ten Percent Plan (TTPP), thereby guaranteeing

Low enrollment of Black students contributes to their often referenced unique and isolating experiences at tier–one institutions, and at predominately
white institutions (PWI) in particular. This remains true even when compared to other traditionally marginalized groups. For example, Latino/a
students comprise between 22 to 24% of the UT freshmen class compared to Black students at four–and–a–half to five–and–a–half percent. By
representing nearly a quarter of the freshmen class, one can argue the experiences of Latino/as differs quite drastically from Black students. Therefore,
this pilot study aims to give voice to and highlight the experiences of UT's Black students during the college search process. As such, the major
