3. Initial idea
• The music video we are planning to make is a mixture of
performance and conceptual footage. The concept for the
video is based on the film ‘They Live’ (1988) by John
Carpenter and performance shots by ‘Quad Damage’ local
heavy metal band.
• For conceptual shots we are planning to follow the plot of
the movie, of which we were inspired by the film’s social
commentary on consumerism which resonated with us and
we thought it would be fitting for our music video. What we
are planning to create for our conceptual side of the music
video is a take on an average person’s life but shown as a
mindless consumer – We are planning to do this is by
dressing up a number of people as zombies to illustrate this
idea with statements printed on their t-shirts such as ‘obey,
designer, this costs a lot of money’ etc. to show how our
capitalist society is run.
4. Our Idea
• We are planning to recreate a scene from the
movie ‘They Live’ of which social commentary
inspired us

• Also it will be in combination with performance
shots of a local band ‘Quad Damage’. The
performance shots will be largely influenced from
other metal music videos such as Pantera’s ‘5
Minutes Alone’

6. Our Commitment to getting this done
on time.
Organization
• Already have started talking with potential actors/performers

Preparation
• Using video tutorials to better understand how to deal with certain problems we may
encounter.
• Speaking with the band members to see when they are available and what they will have to
do
7. Audience Research
• Being that one of the band members is in our group gave us a major
advantage as we knew exactly who were we targeting but we also did
some research on who would listen to heavy metal/dubstep through
looking at different forums and blogs like:
• We found this style of music was predominantly listen to by the young
generations roughly varying from ages 12-25. We also want to look at
the social classes of this music following and saw a pattern of mostly
lower middle class.
