ARMONIA Case Study Scenarios
If community is for the growth of individuals within the group, the case–study of
ARMONIA is a good example of how community empowers the weak and poor in society (Cruz–
Ramos & Cruz–Valdivieso, 2011). It began as a Christian initiative to serve the most poor populations
of Mexico City using psychosocial interventions. Poverty, it is contended, is more than just a lack of
material wealth. It is "a culture, a way of life that effects every aspect of a person and their
community.
It is characterized by isolation, exploitation, helplessness, lack of vision for the future and
hopelessness" (Cruz–Ramos & Cruz–Valdivieso, 2011, p. 224). Community psychology was used as a
method of enhancing the wellness of both individuals and the ... Show more content on

Eventually, a treatment model developed organically that targeted problems experienced by both the
families and the community. A supportive environment was created, where the residents of
the slums were brought together to collectively find solutions to problems, rather than focusing on
individual therapy. A community was crystallized as they faced each others problems collectively
(Cruz–Ramos & Cruz–Valdivieso, 2011). Thus, the indigenous poor are not 'given a voice', but 'find

their voice' through the dignity and self–realization achieved through being truly 'seen'.
Other exemplary examples are the communities of L'Arche, first created by Jean Vanier in
1964, when, deeply troubled by the plight of people with mental handicaps who were shut away in
institutions, he invited two men with intellectual disabilities to live with him in a house he

The Two Koreas and the Responsibility of the International...
The conflict in the Korean peninsula should not be the exclusive concern of the East Asian region nor
the American powers. In an increasingly globalized world, the challenges to human rights and world
peace is a transnational responsibility. It is a concern for the entire international community,
particularly in this case as the commission has mentioned, because of the international community's
past involvement in the division of the Korean peninsula (United Nations Human Rights Council 16).
Yet, it appears that despite what we have learned from history, such as the horrific atrocities that
occurred in Nazi Germany and Rwanda, the rest of the world seems willing to sit idly by with regard
to the continuing abuses in North Korea.
The reality of human rights abuses in North Korea has already been established time and time again.
Yet, no serious, collective efforts and action at the international level has yet to emerge from these
discussions, reports and investigations.
The very recent publication of a comprehensive report by the United Nations Commission of Inquiry
on human rights in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea establishes credible evidence and
knowledge of the situation in North Korea. With knowledge of the unparalleled conditions, the
international community now has no excuse for its inaction. Although the global community faces
many challenges such as issues of state sovereignty, it must remember the many human lives at stake
and the fundamental right to

Mexican Culture Vs Chicano Culture
If you've ever been to the West Side Community in St Paul, you will notice the vast Latino/Chicano
culture. Growing up on the West Side the culture was everywhere, the food, the shops, the sense of
family, and the activities. Rebecca Moran Cusick has had a tremendous impact on the community.
Rebecca has spent 3+ decades of working in the St Paul Schools. She is a mother and grandmother.
She is also the director of Los Alegres Bailadores, (LAB for short) a Mexican Folkloric dance
organization. LAB is celebrating 40 years of sharing the culture with the world. Rebecca just recently
won a Sally award for her vision for LAB. The mission for Los Alegres Bailadores is "to preserve
Mexican culture through the art of dance." LAB is a place where

Challenges Facing The International Community Essay
Introduction
"Every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way" wrote Leo Tolstoy in the opening page of Anna
Karenina. Similarly it can be said that each so called fragile state is fragile in its own way. Fragile
states pose a distinct security risk for the international community. According to OECD report on
fragile states (2015),by failing in their responsibility to provide basic services to their people, they
cause mass migration and act as havens for terrorism and illicit trade. According to the same report–
statebuilding interventions in fragile states are undertaken because, without addressing state fragility,
poverty reduction is not achievable and that state fragility will have a major impact on global poverty.
In the following analysis, I will try to explore the challenges the international community, led by the
US, face in its state–building efforts in Afghanistan. Standing at the border between central and south
asia, Afghanistan has a chequered and violent recent history. Acting as a buffer zone between British
and Russian colonialism in the 18th and 19th century (Marsden 2009, p 72), Afghanistan became
completely independent from British rule in the 1920s. During the reign of Zahir Shah ( 1933–1973),
the country enjoyed relative peace and a process of modernization was under way in the kemalist
model (Rashid 2000, p 76). However, in the 1970s Afghanistan saw military coup, communist
takeover and a Soviet invasion. In the late 1970s, the People's Democratic

International Community Is Culpable For The Rwandan Genocide
From April to June 1994, in a mere 100 days, approximately 800,000 Tutsi and moderate Hutu were
murdered during the Rwandan genocide (Destexhe, 1994). The international community failed to
prevent or stop this slaughter. Considering the horrific nature of this genocide and the vast number of
victims, there is a question whether the international community is culpable for the Rwandan
genocide; specifically, the role of its key players, the US, the UN, France and Belgium. I will argue
that the international community is culpable and focus on three reasons for this inaction.
A subsequent question is; what responsibilities do global actors have in preventing such atrocities? I
feel that every country is responsible for protecting its citizens from genocide. Should a nation fail to
safeguard its citizens from genocide, I feel that international community has an obligation to protect
those citizens at risk. I will highlight the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) doctrine which was ratified
by the UN some years following the Rwandan genocide, as the UN's attempt to prevent the mistakes
of Rwanda and other genocides.
Background – Three Reasons for the International Community's inaction in the Rwandan Genocide
I feel that the international community is culpable for the Rwandan genocide and will focus on the
three reasons for this inaction. First, inaction was due to national interests. As an example, the US
decided not to take action in Rwanda as there was no perceived

Health and energy drinks are becoming competitors of coffee industry.
Poverty, child labour, low wages, long working hours, no employments benefits and illiteracy caused
by coffee industries in coffee growing communities due to increased demand of coffee farmer's
children are involved to do work hard with their parents to earn more and also remain illiterate.
2. Environmental issues:– Due to increasing demand of coffee, farmers use agrochemicals on coffee
plantation to increase productivity of coffee that will impact the quality of coffee as well as cause
health problems and pollute environment.
High production of coffee causes deforestation because coffee growing countries require too much
land to grow coffee more to fulfill the demand of coffee.
Plastic cups used for serving tea and coffee will increase wastage while they use recycling.
Bad agricultural methods and techniques lead to soil erosion.
Genetically modified organisms (GMO's) cause risk for other plant species and consumer health
problems.
3. Economic issues: – Coffee pickers don't receive minimum wage rate for example in Guatemala, the
minimum wage of coffee pickers are $3 per hour.
Even middle man pays less than the market price to them. It impacts the income of farmers and cause
unemployment, poverty, child labour and illiteracy in that particular coffee growing country. It affects
GDP and per capita income of country. Industries operations get effected by

In the face of a weak economy, America's cultural communities are proving to be resilient. Enduring
through these difficult times takes courage and commitment; our diverse communities are an excellent
reflection of people creating change in the world. As economic conditions continue to worsen, our
communities have taken the opportunity to improve their conditions together. Right here in
Sacramento we are privileged to have the strength and support of the SFBSF (Sacramento Food Bank
& Family Services). Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services has been actively helping the needy in
Sacramento communities since 1976, when it was founded by Father Madigan. This report will focus

SFBFS' purpose is to strive to help others recover their lives in order to create a better future–
regardless of their appearance, sex, race, culture, religion, etc. This type of cooperative living is an
example of Multiculturalism, "roughly the idea that society is strong enough to accommodate
numerous cultures within it, and might even gain from the diversity this entails" (Kymlicka, 2010).
SFBFS offers a wide variety of classes that are free of charge and can help tremendously. With nine
very diverse and very beneficial programs, SFBFS can educate people on everything from Food
(nutrition, health screenings, edible gardening), Clothing (donated and distributed clothing for the
whole family, interviews, etc.), Parent Education (guides parents to raise children in a healthy and
supportive environment, offers resources and incentives), Adult Education (one–on–one instruction as
well as group instruction on subjects in reading, writing, math, computer skills, resume building,

Key Club Narrative
Since I was born, I have grown up in a home where serving is a key virtue to live by. So as I budding
freshman, I was excited to join the service clubs at my high school. However, when I saw the clubs
my school offered, I was surprised to find out that there were not any service clubs for me to
participate in. As a girl with a passion, I realized something needed to be done. So I gathered some
friends and we decided to start a service club at our school. One of my friends suggested that we
charter a Key Club, an international high school service club that she had at her past high school. To
get chartered, we had to get support from the school and the local community. We had to obtain a
sponsorship from a local Kiwanis club. It can be hard for adults to take teenagers seriously but with
firm persistence we prevailed and as a unit, we successfully chartered a Key Club chapter, which

Then an idea became clear. That year, a security guard at our school was diagnosed with cancer.
Everyone in our school felt the loss of his presence. We decided to set up a fundraiser to raise money
for his surgery. We premiered High School Musical 2 for students to watch and charged a small entry
fee of $1.00. The fellow club officers worked together to try and figure out how to effectively host a
fundraiser. We divided the members up into groups. Some of them collected ticket sales, others help
set up the movie in the auditorium, and others sold treats at the screening. That night we raised over
$600 for the security guard from donations and entrance fee costs. Seeing the smile and respect he had
for us wanting to help him made me thankful that I could be a part of something that made his life
easier. Successfully fundraising for the security guard was one of the most rewarding moments I have

Participant Observation:
In this research, I will utilize an observation method to record behaviors, activities, teaching methods,
language of instruction, community centers and home learning environments, teachers' awareness of
refugee students' needs, parents' educational support, the refugee students' previous educational
experiences, language barrier, and educational resources. Moreover, I will also observe and record
participants' physical environment, socio–economics and cultural milieu. The observations will be
conducted in two community centers and three family houses. The families will be observed for seven
to eight hours a day ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Introduction and Appreciation Meeting:
At the beginning of the data collection, a church leader will introduce the researcher with the
participants. It will also provide a chance for the researcher to explain the research aims, participants'
rights, and voluntarily participation policy. At the end of the data collection, the researcher will also
have a meeting with the participants, wherein the researcher will express his gratitude to the
participants, with some gifts. The meeting will also give an opportunity for the researcher to share the
findings with the participants.
Reflective Field Notes:
Throughout my data collections I will be jotting down my emic and etic perspectives about their
educational experience. For this study, it is essential for the researcher to keep a record of reflective
field notes. Since, refugee participants may have seen or experienced some violence and persecution
in their home county and, currently, may have been facing challenges as well. And, sometimes, they
may not be able to describe their unpleasant experiences and often pause or have tears in their eyes.
Therefore, the researcher's reflective field notes will attempt to record those instances on a

The Water And Hygiene Situation Of Rural Northeastern...
Subject: Confronting the Water and Hygiene Situation in Rural Northeastern Madagascar
There is this concept of gotong rolong in many Malaysian communities, and it roughly translates to
"to do good for the community with the community." It is essential that as government officials,
NGOs, and local members of the community work together to work with the community to ensure the
sustainability of water systems and hygiene practices. As a community, it is important to identify the
most common and hazardous issues and find long term solutions to them. The water and hygiene
situation of rural northeastern Madagascar is unacceptably poor and changes must be made. Water is a
basic human need, and having access to clean and safe drinking water is a right every individual
should have. Not only have the needs of these communities been taken into full consideration, the
financial and health effect are also addressed in this memorandum.
The majority of the communities and some households have a relatively new or brand new pump,
however, a little less than three–fourths of those pumps are no longer in service. Not only should each
community should take responsibility to properly educate its inhabitants about maintaining and
repairing the pump. Furthermore, when considering the labor required to construct the pumps, the
local workers should not be at risk, and proper safety measures must be enforced. Due to the increased
amount of rainfall in the past few years, rainwater collection should

Nantucket residents know the special gift they have living on the Island, even part of the year. To keep
the Island economy hale and hearty, shopping local is the only answer. The good news is that
Nantucket Island has plenty of local shops and merchants to enjoy. The Fun of Shopping Locally
Shopping locally helps to preserve the unique culture that is Nantucket. One of the noted local crafts
is the Nantucket Lightship Basket, a basket unique to the fishing culture of Nantucket. This native
craft has transformed into bracelets that are a true offshoot of this tradition. Nantucket Bracelets is

Strengths And Weaknesses Of The Asa Approach
It is observed from the studies that the SL approach is very flexible and is adaptable to almost every
situation and geographical entity. It does not require formal structural planning. It is however very
participatory. Indebt knowledge of the urban poor is required. If there is something SL approach
brings out so clear, it is the uniqueness of every individual, household, community and country. It is a
people centered approach. Therefore it does not promote top down solutions to solve poverty situation
in a country or community. An understanding of the urban poor as observed in the studies means
coming to their level and interacting with them to know what asset they have and their vulnerabilities.
3.2. Asset Builder
The studies demonstrate how the SL approach builds on assets of the poor to help fight poverty. It is
observed from the case studies both in Somalia and South Africa that champions of SL approach after
discovering the strengths of the urban poor, capitalized on them with the poor themselves to make the
success stories.
3.3. Sustainability
The studies bring out the issue of sustainability in three dimensions. The first is sustainability in terms
of environment. From the case study in Somalia, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

machinery to implement due to the bureaucratic and systematic nature of governing. All said and

The International Community Development Scholarship Program
As would be student at your University, I am honoured to have an opportunity to apply for the
International Community Development Scholarship Program. Studying the programme would ensure
I give a positive contribution to my country after finishing the course. I believe that community

that assists the underprivileged in the society.
I am committed to pursuing a career in social work. As evidenced from my transcript, I am an
individual who thrives through hard work. Captivatingly, there is a Japanese proverb that states that,
fall seven times, stand up eight. This proverb conjecture implies that the only way you can lose is by
not getting up when you fall. Therefore, in the event that one falls and decides not to get up, they
would surely have accepted defeat.
Instinctively, if one stands up, there is a chance for hope, however, slender it might seem.
Additionally, this quote means being persistent even though circumstances seem not permitting.
Intriguingly, this is what drives me never to give up when I encounter difficult situations.
Consequently, no matter how complicated situations are, I have a belief that even with stumbling

The Revitalization Of The Sears Concourse Building
Is it possible for a community to entrust artists with the responsibility of redeveloping a
neighborhood? After all, doubts are understandable; artists are better at being artists and developers
are best at being developers. As a matter of fact, does an artist/real estate developer even exist? Just
the mere thought seems impractical. Although this may be true in most cities, Memphis, Tennessee is
currently in the middle of a Renaissance, and artists are leading the way. The anchor of this
Renaissance is the revitalization of The Sears Concourse building. The Art Deco 1.5 million square
foot structure built in 1927 was once a source of pride for the city, attracting 30,000 visitors at its
grand opening to marvel at its decadence and eventually serving as a distribution hub for 50 years.
Employing 1500 people and attracting thousands of visitors per day in the department store, it was an
economic pillar of the Crosstown neighborhood. However, in 2010, the building standing empty for
22 years, became an eyesore that Crosstown co–founder Todd Richardson describes as " a beacon of
hope that is now a disappointing reminder of unmet expectations for the city". The surrounding
neighborhood would keep hoping sooner or later, someone would eventually solve the dilemma of
what to do with so much space that had been empty for so long. Year after year, businesses boarded
up, houses deteriorated and neighbors lost hope. No one knew what to do; that is to say, until an artist,

General Karenzi Karake Is Part Of The International Community
The recent arrest of General Karenzi Karake is part of the international community trying to grasp its
understandings of Rwanda's bloody history. On the night of April 6, 1994, Rwandan President Juvenal
Habyarimana assassination while flying back to Rwanda by unknown fighters triggered the last
genocide of the twentieth century. The Rwandan Genocide or also named the 1994 Genocide against
the Tutsis, ravaged the entire country as neighbours killed neighbours. Genocide perpetrators claimed
that the massacres were required in order to protect the nation from the invading Tutsi–dominated
Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF), which Rwanda had been fighting since 1990. It was the belief that the
RPF wished to reestablish dominance over the majority Hutu population such as during the Belgium
colonial period (1922–1962). The international community decided within the first few days to
remove its presence with the removal of its citizens and the downgrading of the United Nations
Assistance Mission for Rwanda (UNAMIR). The world looked away as in around one hundred days;
over one million Tutsis and moderate Hutus were butchered by the genocide forces. The massacres
only ceased when the RPF's military wing, the Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA) fully invaded the
country and expelled the genocide forces into eastern Zaire or know named the Democratic Republic
of Congo (DRC). As expected, the genocide cannot be as easily defined as it composes various

A Community Social Event Programme For A Group Of People...
Introduction
This is a project proposal for a community social event programme for a group of people over the age
of 65 years. The project will identify an important need to address loneliness in old age which is a
major health concern. This project proposal will explain the stages of planning the programme.
Defining the Problem
After contacting several organisations in the Donegal area, from the Active Retirement Association,
the Family Resource Centre, the local public health nurse, and the neighbouring community centre
that caters for all age groups, I became aware of a group of over 65 years old adults who has
experienced some level of loneliness. The local public health nurse outlined the need to address the
issue of loneliness in older people in order to improve their overall physical and mental wellbeing.
After consulting a committee member in my local community hall, I became aware of how few social
activities are organised for this age group. The committee member outlined the need for a physical
activity programme that would reach out to older people, as there is currently no programme in place.
The local community hall provides an excellent service for the youth but little has been done with the
retired members of the locality. This proves disappointing as positive ageing is in everyone's best
interest.
This social event programme will prove important to enhance social cohesion and empower active
ageing thereby improving quality of life as people age (Department of

This caused a false sense of security in the market system for investors, which led to their

Recession to find roots in the United States financial markets (Verick & Islam, 2010).
2001–2007: Policy Change and Key Drivers With the burst of the dotcom bubble mentioned above
and also the terrorist attacks of 9/11/2001, the United States experienced a short period of recession.
In order to combat this, the Federal Reserve proceeded to lower the Federal funds rate eleven times in
a span of a year and a half bringing the rate from 6.5% in May 2000 to 1.75% in December 2001. This
constant lowering brought a rush of liquidity in to the transitioning economy. This form of cheap
money was immediately taken advantage of by bankers and then subprime borrowers; those that had
little to no income, jobless, and lacked assets. These subprime borrowers used these new funds to
purchase homes causing a spike in the housing market bringing more loans, more buyers and greater
home values. This soon caught the attention of the Fed. The Fed, seeing a great potential in economic
growth, continued lowering interest rates to as little as 1% in June 2003. Subprime mortgages became

The Legacy Of East Hill

I. Community Core
The history of East Hill is authentic old established homes and businesses throughout the narrow,

as the financial position, educational status, child care and cooperation and its impact on young
people's achievement in Bangladesh. What was discovered was that the family and community's
financial status do affect a child's learning and parents also affect a child's achievement in

Kennedy states that learning should go beyond the classroom and into the homes and communities of
students (28). This demonstrates the importance of extending learning outside the classroom walls.

Traditional Model Of Primary Health Care Essay
Traditional model of primary health care that involves physician–centered approaches are often
inadequate for addressing the complex health needs that residents of low–income neighborhoods
encounter (Whelan et al., 2010). Therefore, if the Health Bus provides services that are culturally
appropriate and addresses the needs of clients, it is anticipated that participants would be satisfied
with the services and would use the Health Bus services. Evaluation may show that the Health Bus
team is addressing other social determinants of health such as reducing social isolation among the
clients. As seen in the study by Whelan that indicated that clients felt more socially inclusive as a
result of chatting with staff and being treated with respect and dignity at the Health Bus in Toronto
(Whelan et al., 2010).
On the other hand, the evaluation may indicate that the Health Bus is not meeting the needs of
residents in the neighborhood. This may be largely due to the high morbidity and mortality rates from
a number of health conditions present in Saskatoon low–income neighborhoods which the Health Bus
services do not address. Therefore, it may be worthwhile to scale–up the Health Bus services to
provide a multidisciplinary health service for people living in Saskatoon's core neighborhoods by
merging existing services with other equally important health services on the Health Bus such as
mental health care. As seen in Greece where Mobile health units was used to assess, monitor and

Foreign Aid For Africa From The International Community
In Dambisa Moyo's book, Dead Aid, Moyo explains how foreign aid to Africa from the international
community has not benefited the African countries as similar types of aid have been used to stabilize
other nations successfully, such as the US aid in the reconstruction of post World War II Europe in the
Marshall Plan. According to Moyo, the challenge that many African countries face is a cycle of aid
dependency, "with aid's help, corruption fosters corruption, nations quickly descend into a vicious
cycle of aid. Foreign aid props up corrupt governments – providing them with freely usable cash"
(Moyo, 2009, 49). These governments typically interfere and disregard the rule of law, transparency
of civil institutions, and the protection of civil liberties, which, according to Moyo, makes "both
domestic and foreign investment in poor countries unattractive" (Moyo, 2009, 49). As a result, fewer
investments lead to declining economic growth which contributes to poverty. In a growing response to
poverty, international donors "give more aid, which continues the downward spiral of poverty"
(Moyo, 2009, 49), which perpetuates underdevelopment and ensures failure in the most aid dependent
countries.
The foundation of Moyo's thesis is that foreign aid flooding Africa for the last half century has not
worked and has actually harmed Africa's growth more than it has helped. Moyo's references that many
countries that have substantially less aid than many of the African countries yet aid have

Book Of Genres: A Community Analysis
When one thinks of community, they are likely to think of the general population of a region, or
perhaps even that of the world at large. Such a person would have one right idea in mind, but not
necessarily the right idea in the context of this exploration. What sets community, in this broad sense,
apart from the role it plays in this project, is common interest. English vernacular dictates that "the
community" is a term usually reserved for reference to people of a given region; this use of the word
community exists without regard for any shared qualities beyond location. In this report, community
will describe a group of individuals with commonalities in concerns, aspirations, and most
importantly discourse. (cite definition source) As ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
High school relay teams, for example, have built themselves a reputation for craftiness in their
fundraising endeavors. We see these young activists designing custom T–shirts to wear around school
and town in hopes of garnering attention. This method is particularly effective when fashion plays
such a large role in the average teen life, it's all about making a statement through couture. The same
intent is in mind when Relay for Life attendees bake cupcakes of the most trendy flavors. It is not
bland vanillas that will make the big bucks, but rather maple–bacons, red velvets, and Nutella–filled
variations. The same concept can be applied to posters intended at drawing in potential neighborhood
participants. These should not be dull and easy to miss, but rather legible, pithy, and intriguing
persuasive memorandum with some sort of hook. Design is important to draw passers–by in. The

Analysis Of Octavia Butler 's Series Of The Parables
I entered Butler University as an English major believing that what we choose to read changes the
way we think, and literature shapes the society we live in. I later changed my major to International
Studies, an interdisciplinary course of study, which allowed me to foster my understanding of the
global society, the complexities of intercultural interactions, and the ability to apply political theories
to interpret one situation from multiple perspectives. When choosing the topic for my senior thesis, I
was torn between delving into a political crisis or taking the opportunity to re–visit my love of
literature in an academic framework. Speculative fiction is the crossroads I have found between my
love of literature and my passion for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Two prominent, but conflicting, interpretations are presented by Garrett Hardin and Elinor Ostrom.
Garrett Hardin first proposed in 1998 that the tragedy of the commons cannot be solved with a
technical solution, which he claims is the most socially acceptable type of solution. Hardin goes on to
point out and question social boundaries by challenging his reader to ask him or herself what is
"good" (Hardin 1244). He acknowledges that "good" is usually considered to be a varied concept that
is open to human interpretation and construction; however, "natural selection commensurates the
incommensurable" (1244). Hardin's proposal that freedom is the catalyst for ruin in a communal
society is one of his most controversial claims because he argues that autonomy leaves room for
selfish motivations that lead to the destruction of the overall good. For example, Hardin briefly
discusses world pollution. The atmosphere and oceans are shared resourced or "commons" for which
many people do not feel responsible, and thus, they are commons which have been damaged and
polluted, affecting both those culpable and inculpable of the created "cesspool" (1245). Hardin's
interpretation challenges traditional morals that stem

EXAMINING NATIONAL IDENTITY
Research Question:
How do sociological and psychological needs affect form, national identity, and concept in the
contemporary world? What is the importance of cultural identity? And why is it important? These are
a few question I would answer in the following study. The objective is to understand the early or
modern concepts representing cultural or national uniqueness. This research proposes, the designs and
concepts to be crafted more than being engineered (Norman D, 1990), so that every culture is unique
in itself, and analysing Australian national identity in connection with globalization, culture, art, and
society. Examining greek culture in the previous assignment made us familiar with the concept and
will also help to analyze the Australian National identity.

A Collective Identity Of Europe
Post–war European nations were faced with the task of restructuring their states after the devastating
war. A collective agreement was made for a political body to help stabilize much of Europe. The
Community provided external political structure that would provide the means necessary to create a
stable economy and develop technologies, but in order to do so there would need to be a collective
identity of Europe. As nation–states were trying to redefine their history and assert their independence
it became a delicate balance between maintaining their own identity and joining in the Community
that would impose new regulation but also provide the resources necessary to rebuild economically.
This struggle to maintain a national identity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The benefit was that nation–states could now have their own domestic economy and still benefit from
the advancing international markets that were more accessible.
However, economics cannot be viewed as an independent unit. How the market works is inadvertently
based on a cultural set of ideals and markets can function differently from state to state. In order to
formalize an institution to control the economy new regulations must be set in place. In the sense of
the European Community all nations states had to join together to create a set of rules that everyone
agreed upon. By abiding by new rules nations in return could expect to benefit from a larger political
body. This all sounded very promising, a new and stronger institution would regulate the economy,
and provide security for the vulnerable post–war nations. In doing so, Europe would create a
collective identity, a sense of nationality. Although after the war the idea of a stronger unified
economy sounded promising it could also be viewed as a hindrance in the long term. The European
Community's goal was to create a unification of the nation–states but from the viewpoint of a
individual state this could be a loss of independence and identity. This communal identity "made
western European states resemble each other much more than they resembled those of other places or
other times." The focus was no longer on

Humanitarian Intervention : The Violation Of Human Rights...
" If humanitarian intervention is, indeed, an unacceptable assault on sovereignty, how should we
respond to gross and systematic violation of human rights that offend every precept of our common
humanity?" said the former Secretary–General of United Nations, Kofi Annan. (source)
This statement reflects the challenge that's been facing the international community for several
decades. Indeed, the international community (represented by the United Nations) has legitimized the
coercive action against a state and the intervention in another state's affairs when the state is violating
human rights [therefore on behalf of other people/to help people suffering severe harm/to help people
whose fundamental rights have been neglected] and when it's framed by a supranational authority,
typically the UN Security Council.
But this "humanitarian intervention" defies the UN Charter's principle of self–determination that says
that people have the right to freely choose their sovereignty and international political status with no
interference and without having to justify themselves.
Then, in 2000 was created the principle of "Responsibility to Protect" that stipulates that a state must
protect its own population and all other population from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and
crimes against humanity with the help of the international community. And it also stated that when a
state fails to protect its people the responsibility shifts to the broader international community.

The Importance Of Globalization In South Korea
1) David Kang said in one of his lectures that South Korea has closed the economic gap and become a
global nation, but he never did say how South Korea did this (David Kang, 2017). However, looking
how businesses are run in South Korea and what happens in society shows us some insight. Yet it is
apparent that becoming a global nation has shifted South Korea society's worldview and their
thinking.
South Korea is a collectivist nation; they believe society should be focused around the whole instead
of the individual (Interface Training, 2010). Thus, in South Korea companies treat their employees
like family in which they want you to be loyal above anything (Interface Training, 2010). The
advantage is that as an individual you do not have to worry too much about losing a job if you make a
mistake because they treat their employees like family and it is hard to dismiss a family member.
However, there is also a downside is to this and that it is hard to get a job in this current market
because of the Baby Boomer generation still hold many of company positions.
There also seems to be a shift towards individualism when it comes to the work environment as
globalization is happening. You see this in the music industry, which Soo Man Lee changed the
industry after studying board (Choi et.al, 2014). The K–Pop industry has been turned into audio
McDonalds, in which many singers can be replaced in seconds (Choi et.al, 2014). Oddly enough it's

The International Community and Responsibility to Protect 3318 Words 14 Pages
The International Community has a Right to Intervene in Sovereign States in order to end Serious
Human Rights Abuses? Discuss.
Humanitarian intervention is definitely one of the most controversial subjects of the recent decades–
among states, international organizations, non–governmental organizations (NGOs) and academia.
The centre of the debate is the clash of traditional principles of state sovereignty and new adopted
norms on use of force for humanitarian purposes. Despite the political controversies between the
countries, humanitarian intervention is now an international norm which calls for action anytime there

The discussion on humanitarian intervention emerged in the 1990s with the end of the Cold War and
severe ethnical violence taking place. However, the legal roots of humanitarian intervention are found
on Chapter VII of UN Charter and UN Convention on Prevention and Punishment of Genocide
(Charter of the United Nations and the Statute of International Court of Justice, 1945; Convention on
Genocide, 1948). With the "second wave of democratization" occurring from the late 1940s to 1960s
it was strongly embraced the concept of sovereignty by the new liberated states (Huntington, 1991).
Same concept is used currently as a counter–argument to humanitarian intervention (J. Bajorja & R.
McMahon, 2013). However, the co–founders of ICISS argue "...that sovereign states are defined not
by the inviolability of their borders –– the assumption of the post–colonial era – but by their
obligation to protect their citizens" (Homans, 2011).
Humanitarian intervention represents a revolution in the international law, as it challenges the old
Treaty of Westphalia (Treaty of Westphalia, 1648), which certified the domestic sovereignty of state
actors. This principle was also endorsed by the UN Charter in 1945 in the article 2(7), where it was
stated that "nothing should authorize intervention in matters essentially within the domestic
jurisdiction of any state" (Charter of the United Nations and the Statute of International Court of
Justice, 1945, p.3). However, Chapter VII grants

Globalization and the International Monetary Community Essay
Executive Summary
Our world is steadily shrinking. Technology is building bridges over the barriers of distance,
language, and culture. It's a process called globalization, and it is changing the way we live. Financial
institutions haven't been immune to the effects of this change. In fact, the international nature of
financial institutions makes them particularly vulnerable to change. This paper addresses three issues
caused by the globalization of the international monetary community.
First this paper examines the success of the Euro, and the implications for the formation of a global
currency. Then this paper looks at the issue of devaluation, and by comparing successful and
unsuccessful devaluations tries to determine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Humanity's life got much easier when money was invented. From ten foot tall coins to small strips of
paper, currency is one of the most important inventions the human race has discovered. The
invaluable ability to trade any item for a standard of value is what makes economy possible. Today,
currency issues face the looming prospect of globalization. Like a tornado on the horizon,
globalization is threatening to reform international currency into a twisted shape unlike anything we
have ever seen. This paper addresses some of the major currency issues facing international financial
organizations today. First the success and growing pains of the Euro will be discussed, with an
emphasis on the implication of the Euro's success on world currency. Next this paper will look at the
devaluation of currency. The paper will also analyze what makes devaluation successful, and how
devaluations are sometimes simply legalized theft from a country's money holders. The final issue
brought up by this paper is the rising trend of dollarization. Shaky economies are using the dollar to
stabilize their currency, and more is being discovered about the implications of this practice all the
time. The international currency community is facing many opportunities and challenges, a few of
which are listed above. Hopefully these issues will paint a broad picture of a global financial
community about to be picked up, spun around, and deposited in a

The History Of Community Television In Colombia
From illegal consumers to legal producers of community. Community TV in Colombia 1997–2007.
Big satellite dishes cover the roofs of several community centers in city neighborhoods and towns in

the access to international media contents, years before the privatization of television distribution in

range of larger questions regarding social aspirations and distinctions attached to technology. As
satellite dishes were adapted and adopted across the country, political and economic changes in the

In Agreement 006 of 1996, the Colombian National Television Authority also established a set of

Community television to produce contents for keeping their status.
Through these legal changes, I explore emerging ideas of participation and community that turned
these infrastructures into hubs for production. Under these circumstances, community television has
turned into a small–scale cultural industry for producing of local content, supported by the idea that
these projects empower local sense of communities. By following some of the democratic changes
introduced in the 1991 constitution, and the free market policies on this decade, I will consider how
community projects joined discourses of self–sustainability and accountability as a condition for an
emergent techno–communitarianism, rooted in the infrastructures of satellite dishes from the 1980s

Community Service For The Detroit River International...
Reflective Essay: Community Service What does community service mean to me? In many ways,
community service either means a whole lot or nothing at all; for me, it really depends on what kind

think the service is very important. Without community service, I feel, there would be no real
indication of any type of community that is willing to come together when help is needed. Over the
past four years of my high school experience, I have engaged in 30+ hours of community service.
These hours have been collected anywhere from small tasks such as helping teachers grade
homework, to helping someone move into their new home. For this paper, I will be elaborating on my

The Debt Crisis Facing The Us And The International Community
Thesis: Broadly speaking, the debt crisis facing the US and the international community is an issue
that has far reaching implications not only for financial institutions but also to many working people
and many economists are giving top priority in solving this issue.
Body Paragraph: In early 2015, there was $18.2 Trillion in outstanding US debt held in federal
agencies and trust funds which is currently 71.20% of the national GDP (CIA, 2015). Recently in the
news we've seen activity geared towards Congress and the debt ceiling. To begin, the debt ceiling is a
statutory limit on the amount of Treasury debt so the legislator can control the spending flows from
the programs it has authorized (Murphy, 2011). Almost every fiscal year Congress raises the debt
ceiling in order to keep the government operational which has become a frequently reoccurring
problem. Between 2009 and 2013, deficits soared to an extraordinary level from $469 billion to $1.4
trillion which is almost 10% of the GDP. One point of interest however it is now projected to fall back
to $469 billion by 2016. Regardless of any short term drop in the deficit that might occur the long
term outlook still looks bleak. The long term projections are high and are expected to reach $6 trillion
by 2025 which is about 20 percent of our current GDP. This could mean that by 2020, the
congressional budget will only allow for 23 cents per dollar to actually go towards discretionary
spending while the other 77 centers would

there are hundreds of case studies that prove that volunteering not only helps the person receiving the

ARMONIA Case Study Scenarios

  • 1. ARMONIA Case Study Scenarios If community is for the growth of individuals within the group, the case–study of ARMONIA is a good example of how community empowers the weak and poor in society (Cruz– Ramos & Cruz–Valdivieso, 2011). It began as a Christian initiative to serve the most poor populations of Mexico City using psychosocial interventions. Poverty, it is contended, is more than just a lack of material wealth. It is "a culture, a way of life that effects every aspect of a person and their community. It is characterized by isolation, exploitation, helplessness, lack of vision for the future and hopelessness" (Cruz–Ramos & Cruz–Valdivieso, 2011, p. 224). Community psychology was used as a method of enhancing the wellness of both individuals and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eventually, a treatment model developed organically that targeted problems experienced by both the families and the community. A supportive environment was created, where the residents of the slums were brought together to collectively find solutions to problems, rather than focusing on individual therapy. A community was crystallized as they faced each others problems collectively (Cruz–Ramos & Cruz–Valdivieso, 2011). Thus, the indigenous poor are not 'given a voice', but 'find WHAT ARE SPIRIT AND COMMUNITY? 11 their voice' through the dignity and self–realization achieved through being truly 'seen'. Other exemplary examples are the communities of L'Arche, first created by Jean Vanier in 1964, when, deeply troubled by the plight of people with mental handicaps who were shut away in institutions, he invited two men with intellectual disabilities to live with him in a house he

  • 4. The Two Koreas and the Responsibility of the International... The conflict in the Korean peninsula should not be the exclusive concern of the East Asian region nor the American powers. In an increasingly globalized world, the challenges to human rights and world peace is a transnational responsibility. It is a concern for the entire international community, particularly in this case as the commission has mentioned, because of the international community's past involvement in the division of the Korean peninsula (United Nations Human Rights Council 16). Yet, it appears that despite what we have learned from history, such as the horrific atrocities that occurred in Nazi Germany and Rwanda, the rest of the world seems willing to sit idly by with regard to the continuing abuses in North Korea. The reality of human rights abuses in North Korea has already been established time and time again. Yet, no serious, collective efforts and action at the international level has yet to emerge from these discussions, reports and investigations. The very recent publication of a comprehensive report by the United Nations Commission of Inquiry on human rights in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea establishes credible evidence and knowledge of the situation in North Korea. With knowledge of the unparalleled conditions, the international community now has no excuse for its inaction. Although the global community faces many challenges such as issues of state sovereignty, it must remember the many human lives at stake and the fundamental right to ... • 8. Challenges Facing The International Community Essay Introduction "Every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way" wrote Leo Tolstoy in the opening page of Anna Karenina. Similarly it can be said that each so called fragile state is fragile in its own way. Fragile states pose a distinct security risk for the international community. According to OECD report on fragile states (2015),by failing in their responsibility to provide basic services to their people, they cause mass migration and act as havens for terrorism and illicit trade. According to the same report– statebuilding interventions in fragile states are undertaken because, without addressing state fragility, poverty reduction is not achievable and that state fragility will have a major impact on global poverty. In the following analysis, I will try to explore the challenges the international community, led by the US, face in its state–building efforts in Afghanistan. Standing at the border between central and south asia, Afghanistan has a chequered and violent recent history. Acting as a buffer zone between British and Russian colonialism in the 18th and 19th century (Marsden 2009, p 72), Afghanistan became completely independent from British rule in the 1920s. During the reign of Zahir Shah ( 1933–1973), the country enjoyed relative peace and a process of modernization was under way in the kemalist model (Rashid 2000, p 76). However, in the 1970s Afghanistan saw military coup, communist takeover and a Soviet invasion. In the late 1970s, the People's Democratic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. International Community Is Culpable For The Rwandan Genocide From April to June 1994, in a mere 100 days, approximately 800,000 Tutsi and moderate Hutu were murdered during the Rwandan genocide (Destexhe, 1994). The international community failed to prevent or stop this slaughter. Considering the horrific nature of this genocide and the vast number of victims, there is a question whether the international community is culpable for the Rwandan genocide; specifically, the role of its key players, the US, the UN, France and Belgium. I will argue that the international community is culpable and focus on three reasons for this inaction. A subsequent question is; what responsibilities do global actors have in preventing such atrocities? I feel that every country is responsible for protecting its citizens from genocide. Should a nation fail to safeguard its citizens from genocide, I feel that international community has an obligation to protect those citizens at risk. I will highlight the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) doctrine which was ratified by the UN some years following the Rwandan genocide, as the UN's attempt to prevent the mistakes of Rwanda and other genocides. Background – Three Reasons for the International Community's inaction in the Rwandan Genocide I feel that the international community is culpable for the Rwandan genocide and will focus on the three reasons for this inaction. First, inaction was due to national interests. As an example, the US decided not to take action in Rwanda as there was no perceived ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

High production of coffee causes deforestation because coffee growing countries require too much land to grow coffee more to fulfill the demand of coffee. • 17. Key Club Narrative Since I was born, I have grown up in a home where serving is a key virtue to live by. So as I budding freshman, I was excited to join the service clubs at my high school. However, when I saw the clubs my school offered, I was surprised to find out that there were not any service clubs for me to participate in. As a girl with a passion, I realized something needed to be done. So I gathered some friends and we decided to start a service club at our school. One of my friends suggested that we charter a Key Club, an international high school service club that she had at her past high school. To get chartered, we had to get support from the school and the local community. We had to obtain a sponsorship from a local Kiwanis club. It can be hard for adults to take teenagers seriously but with firm persistence we prevailed and as a unit, we successfully chartered a Key Club chapter, which began the first ... The fellow club officers worked together to try and figure out how to effectively host a fundraiser. We divided the members up into groups. Some of them collected ticket sales, others help set up the movie in the auditorium, and others sold treats at the screening. That night we raised over $600 for the security guard from donations and entrance fee costs. • 21. The Water And Hygiene Situation Of Rural Northeastern... Subject: Confronting the Water and Hygiene Situation in Rural Northeastern Madagascar There is this concept of gotong rolong in many Malaysian communities, and it roughly translates to "to do good for the community with the community." It is essential that as government officials, NGOs, and local members of the community work together to work with the community to ensure the sustainability of water systems and hygiene practices. As a community, it is important to identify the most common and hazardous issues and find long term solutions to them. The water and hygiene situation of rural northeastern Madagascar is unacceptably poor and changes must be made. Water is a basic human need, and having access to clean and safe drinking water is a right every individual should have. Not only have the needs of these communities been taken into full consideration, the financial and health effect are also addressed in this memorandum. The majority of the communities and some households have a relatively new or brand new pump, however, a little less than three–fourths of those pumps are no longer in service. Not only should each community should take responsibility to properly educate its inhabitants about maintaining and repairing the pump. Furthermore, when considering the labor required to construct the pumps, the local workers should not be at risk, and proper safety measures must be enforced. It does not require formal structural planning. It is however very participatory. Indebt knowledge of the urban poor is required. If there is something SL approach brings out so clear, it is the uniqueness of every individual, household, community and country. It is a people centered approach. Therefore it does not promote top down solutions to solve poverty situation in a country or community. An understanding of the urban poor as observed in the studies means coming to their level and interacting with them to know what asset they have and their vulnerabilities. 3.2. Asset Builder The studies demonstrate how the SL approach builds on assets of the poor to help fight poverty. It is observed from the case studies both in Somalia and South Africa that champions of SL approach after discovering the strengths of the urban poor, capitalized on them with the poor themselves to make the success stories. 3.3. Sustainability The studies bring out the issue of sustainability in three dimensions. The first is sustainability in terms of environment. From the case study in Somalia, the ... Hence, I want to be aligned with a profession that assists the underprivileged in the society. I am committed to pursuing a career in social work. As evidenced from my transcript, I am an individual who thrives through hard work. Captivatingly, there is a Japanese proverb that states that, fall seven times, stand up eight. This proverb conjecture implies that the only way you can lose is by not getting up when you fall. Therefore, in the event that one falls and decides not to get up, they would surely have accepted defeat. Instinctively, if one stands up, there is a chance for hope, however, slender it might seem. • 31. The Revitalization Of The Sears Concourse Building Is it possible for a community to entrust artists with the responsibility of redeveloping a neighborhood? After all, doubts are understandable; artists are better at being artists and developers are best at being developers. As a matter of fact, does an artist/real estate developer even exist? Just the mere thought seems impractical. Although this may be true in most cities, Memphis, Tennessee is currently in the middle of a Renaissance, and artists are leading the way. The anchor of this Renaissance is the revitalization of The Sears Concourse building. The Art Deco 1.5 million square foot structure built in 1927 was once a source of pride for the city, attracting 30,000 visitors at its grand opening to marvel at its decadence and eventually serving as a distribution hub for 50 years. Employing 1500 people and attracting thousands of visitors per day in the department store, it was an economic pillar of the Crosstown neighborhood. However, in 2010, the building standing empty for 22 years, became an eyesore that Crosstown co–founder Todd Richardson describes as " a beacon of hope that is now a disappointing reminder of unmet expectations for the city". The surrounding neighborhood would keep hoping sooner or later, someone would eventually solve the dilemma of what to do with so much space that had been empty for so long. Year after year, businesses boarded up, houses deteriorated and neighbors lost hope. No one knew what to do; that is to say, until an artist, art ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

General Karenzi Karake Is Part Of The International Community The recent arrest of General Karenzi Karake is part of the international community trying to grasp its understandings of Rwanda's bloody history. On the night of April 6, 1994, Rwandan President Juvenal Habyarimana assassination while flying back to Rwanda by unknown fighters triggered the last genocide of the twentieth century. The Rwandan Genocide or also named the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsis, ravaged the entire country as neighbours killed neighbours. Genocide perpetrators claimed that the massacres were required in order to protect the nation from the invading Tutsi–dominated Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF), which Rwanda had been fighting since 1990. It was the belief that the RPF wished to reestablish dominance over the majority Hutu population such as during the Belgium colonial period (1922–1962). The international community decided within the first few days to remove its presence with the removal of its citizens and the downgrading of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda (UNAMIR). The world looked away as in around one hundred days; over one million Tutsis and moderate Hutus were butchered by the genocide forces. The massacres only ceased when the RPF's military wing, the Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA) fully invaded the country and expelled the genocide forces into eastern Zaire or know named the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). As expected, the genocide cannot be as easily defined as it composes various elements that all play a role in the history of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. A Community Social Event Programme For A Group Of People... Introduction This is a project proposal for a community social event programme for a group of people over the age of 65 years. The project will identify an important need to address loneliness in old age which is a major health concern. This project proposal will explain the stages of planning the programme. Defining the Problem After contacting several organisations in the Donegal area, from the Active Retirement Association, the Family Resource Centre, the local public health nurse, and the neighbouring community centre that caters for all age groups, I became aware of a group of over 65 years old adults who has experienced some level of loneliness. The local public health nurse outlined the need to address the issue of loneliness in older people in order to improve their overall physical and mental wellbeing. After consulting a committee member in my local community hall, I became aware of how few social activities are organised for this age group. The committee member outlined the need for a physical activity programme that would reach out to older people, as there is currently no programme in place. The local community hall provides an excellent service for the youth but little has been done with the retired members of the locality. This proves disappointing as positive ageing is in everyone's best interest. This social event programme will prove important to enhance social cohesion and empower active ageing thereby improving quality of life as people age (Department of ... Characterized by a collapse in the housing market, bankruptcy filings by numerous subprime mortgage lenders, and an international distrust in the banking system, this period is known as the Great Recession. With effects seen on a scale of this magnitude it is important to note the events leading up to the financial crisis. Next, the effects experienced need to be closely evaluated in order to gain a better understanding of the reactions by various parties. In order to combat this, the Federal Reserve proceeded to lower the Federal funds rate eleven times in a span of a year and a half bringing the rate from 6.5% in May 2000 to 1.75% in December 2001. This constant lowering brought a rush of liquidity in to the transitioning economy. This form of cheap money was immediately taken advantage of by bankers and then subprime borrowers; those that had little to no income, jobless, and lacked assets. These subprime borrowers used these new funds to purchase homes causing a spike in the housing market bringing more loans, more buyers and greater home values. This soon caught the attention of the Fed. The Fed, seeing a great potential in economic growth, continued lowering interest rates to as little as 1% in June 2003. Subprime mortgages became a hit ... At the start, I never was really interested in doing any volunteering service. I said to myself, "Hey, if I do community service my college applications would look better!" That was my mentality when I joined, but it changed when I went to my first volunteering event. I went to a park near the city of Mission Viejo, I didn't know what to expect. When I arrived, I heard that we were going to plant trees throughout the park and remove trash around the area. One of the main historical landmarks is a build called Sacred Heart Hospital, which is now known as the 'Old Sacred Heart', "Pensacola Hospital, now known as the historic Sacred Heart Hospital, opened in September 1915 as the first and oldest Catholic hospital in Florida. The Daughters of Charity, a religious order dating back to 1633 also dedicated to care for the poor and the sick, invested over $400,000.00 into building and opening this facility. On early mornings people walk/run with their dogs, walk children to school, and sit outside on their porches to have their morning coffee with the birds chirping. When I approached an elderly woman, who looked as though she was lost and wandering, I asked her if she lived in the area and she replied 'yes'. This woman was named Emma Hall, I went on asking her many other questions due to her willingness and engagement in conversation, it seemed as though she enjoyed the surprising conversation that offset her normal morning routine. By examining these images one is able to get a better understanding of the schooling and community experiences of young people. The relationship between education and community was explored in detail. Nirav explains what a community entails. A community is a wide grouping of people located within certain boundaries, related to each other by socio–economic and civic activities which produces oneness sufficient to develop a recognizable identity as a group (Nirav).Alam examined different community factors such as the financial position, educational status, child care and cooperation and its impact on young people's achievement in Bangladesh. What was discovered was that the family and community's financial status do affect a child's learning and parents also affect a child's achievement in school(Alam). Kennedy also studied this relationship by looking at a student's learning environment. Kennedy states that learning should go beyond the classroom and into the homes and communities of students (28). This demonstrates the importance of extending learning outside the classroom walls. Macneil, Prater, and Busch discuss the importance of school culture and how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Traditional Model Of Primary Health Care Essay Traditional model of primary health care that involves physician–centered approaches are often inadequate for addressing the complex health needs that residents of low–income neighborhoods encounter (Whelan et al., 2010). Therefore, if the Health Bus provides services that are culturally appropriate and addresses the needs of clients, it is anticipated that participants would be satisfied with the services and would use the Health Bus services. Evaluation may show that the Health Bus team is addressing other social determinants of health such as reducing social isolation among the clients. As seen in the study by Whelan that indicated that clients felt more socially inclusive as a result of chatting with staff and being treated with respect and dignity at the Health Bus in Toronto (Whelan et al., 2010). On the other hand, the evaluation may indicate that the Health Bus is not meeting the needs of residents in the neighborhood. This may be largely due to the high morbidity and mortality rates from a number of health conditions present in Saskatoon low–income neighborhoods which the Health Bus services do not address. Therefore, it may be worthwhile to scale–up the Health Bus services to provide a multidisciplinary health service for people living in Saskatoon's core neighborhoods by merging existing services with other equally important health services on the Health Bus such as mental health care. Foreign Aid For Africa From The International Community In Dambisa Moyo's book, Dead Aid, Moyo explains how foreign aid to Africa from the international community has not benefited the African countries as similar types of aid have been used to stabilize other nations successfully, such as the US aid in the reconstruction of post World War II Europe in the Marshall Plan. According to Moyo, the challenge that many African countries face is a cycle of aid dependency, "with aid's help, corruption fosters corruption, nations quickly descend into a vicious cycle of aid. Foreign aid props up corrupt governments – providing them with freely usable cash" (Moyo, 2009, 49). These governments typically interfere and disregard the rule of law, transparency of civil institutions, and the protection of civil liberties, which, according to Moyo, makes "both domestic and foreign investment in poor countries unattractive" (Moyo, 2009, 49). As a result, fewer investments lead to declining economic growth which contributes to poverty. In a growing response to poverty, international donors "give more aid, which continues the downward spiral of poverty" (Moyo, 2009, 49), which perpetuates underdevelopment and ensures failure in the most aid dependent countries. The foundation of Moyo's thesis is that foreign aid flooding Africa for the last half century has not worked and has actually harmed Africa's growth more than it has helped. What sets community, in this broad sense, apart from the role it plays in this project, is common interest. English vernacular dictates that "the community" is a term usually reserved for reference to people of a given region; this use of the word community exists without regard for any shared qualities beyond location. Two prominent, but conflicting, interpretations are presented by Garrett Hardin and Elinor Ostrom. Garrett Hardin first proposed in 1998 that the tragedy of the commons cannot be solved with a technical solution, which he claims is the most socially acceptable type of solution. Hardin goes on to point out and question social boundaries by challenging his reader to ask him or herself what is "good" (Hardin 1244). He acknowledges that "good" is usually considered to be a varied concept that is open to human interpretation and construction; however, "natural selection commensurates the incommensurable" (1244). Hardin's proposal that freedom is the catalyst for ruin in a communal society is one of his most controversial claims because he argues that autonomy leaves room for selfish motivations that lead to the destruction of the overall good. For example, Hardin briefly discusses world pollution. The atmosphere and oceans are shared resourced or "commons" for which many people do not feel responsible, and thus, they are commons which have been damaged and polluted, affecting both those culpable and inculpable of the created "cesspool" (1245). Masters in Design SDES9211 Culture and Identity ASSESSMENT TASK II By Shrestha z5089685 Lecturer Mark Ian Jones ___________________________________________________________________________________ EXAMINING NATIONAL IDENTITY Research Question: How do sociological and psychological needs affect form, national identity, and concept in the contemporary world? What is the importance of cultural identity? And why is it important? These are a few question I would answer in the following study. The objective is to understand the early or modern concepts representing cultural or national uniqueness. This research proposes, the designs and concepts to be crafted more than being engineered (Norman D, 1990), so that every culture is unique in itself, and analysing Australian national identity in connection with globalization, culture, art, and society. A collective agreement was made for a political body to help stabilize much of Europe. The Community provided external political structure that would provide the means necessary to create a stable economy and develop technologies, but in order to do so there would need to be a collective identity of Europe. As nation–states were trying to redefine their history and assert their independence it became a delicate balance between maintaining their own identity and joining in the Community that would impose new regulation but also provide the resources necessary to rebuild economically. The benefit was that nation–states could now have their own domestic economy and still benefit from the advancing international markets that were more accessible. However, economics cannot be viewed as an independent unit. How the market works is inadvertently based on a cultural set of ideals and markets can function differently from state to state. In order to formalize an institution to control the economy new regulations must be set in place. In the sense of the European Community all nations states had to join together to create a set of rules that everyone agreed upon. By abiding by new rules nations in return could expect to benefit from a larger political body. This all sounded very promising, a new and stronger institution would regulate the economy, and provide security for the vulnerable post–war nations. In doing so, Europe would create a collective identity, a sense of nationality. Although after the war the idea of a stronger unified economy sounded promising it could also be viewed as a hindrance in the long term. The European Community's goal was to create a unification of the nation–states but from the viewpoint of a individual state this could be a loss of independence and identity. • 59. Humanitarian Intervention : The Violation Of Human Rights... " If humanitarian intervention is, indeed, an unacceptable assault on sovereignty, how should we respond to gross and systematic violation of human rights that offend every precept of our common humanity?" said the former Secretary–General of United Nations, Kofi Annan. (source) This statement reflects the challenge that's been facing the international community for several decades. Indeed, the international community (represented by the United Nations) has legitimized the coercive action against a state and the intervention in another state's affairs when the state is violating human rights [therefore on behalf of other people/to help people suffering severe harm/to help people whose fundamental rights have been neglected] and when it's framed by a supranational authority, typically the UN Security Council. But this "humanitarian intervention" defies the UN Charter's principle of self–determination that says that people have the right to freely choose their sovereignty and international political status with no interference and without having to justify themselves. Then, in 2000 was created the principle of "Responsibility to Protect" that stipulates that a state must protect its own population and all other population from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity with the help of the international community. And it also stated that when a state fails to protect its people the responsibility shifts to the broader international community. (source) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Importance Of Globalization In South Korea 1) David Kang said in one of his lectures that South Korea has closed the economic gap and become a global nation, but he never did say how South Korea did this (David Kang, 2017). However, looking how businesses are run in South Korea and what happens in society shows us some insight. Yet it is apparent that becoming a global nation has shifted South Korea society's worldview and their thinking. South Korea is a collectivist nation; they believe society should be focused around the whole instead of the individual (Interface Training, 2010). Thus, in South Korea companies treat their employees like family in which they want you to be loyal above anything (Interface Training, 2010). The advantage is that as an individual you do not have to worry too much about losing a job if you make a mistake because they treat their employees like family and it is hard to dismiss a family member. However, there is also a downside is to this and that it is hard to get a job in this current market because of the Baby Boomer generation still hold many of company positions. There also seems to be a shift towards individualism when it comes to the work environment as globalization is happening. You see this in the music industry, which Soo Man Lee changed the industry after studying board (Choi et.al, 2014). The K–Pop industry has been turned into audio McDonalds, in which many singers can be replaced in seconds (Choi et.al, 2014). Oddly enough it's because the collectivist tendencies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The discussion on humanitarian intervention emerged in the 1990s with the end of the Cold War and severe ethnical violence taking place. However, the legal roots of humanitarian intervention are found on Chapter VII of UN Charter and UN Convention on Prevention and Punishment of Genocide (Charter of the United Nations and the Statute of International Court of Justice, 1945; Convention on Genocide, 1948). With the "second wave of democratization" occurring from the late 1940s to 1960s it was strongly embraced the concept of sovereignty by the new liberated states (Huntington, 1991). Same concept is used currently as a counter–argument to humanitarian intervention (J. Bajorja & R. McMahon, 2013). However, the co–founders of ICISS argue "...that sovereign states are defined not by the inviolability of their borders –– the assumption of the post–colonial era – but by their obligation to protect their citizens" (Homans, 2011). Humanitarian intervention represents a revolution in the international law, as it challenges the old Treaty of Westphalia (Treaty of Westphalia, 1648), which certified the domestic sovereignty of state actors. This principle was also endorsed by the UN Charter in 1945 in the article 2(7), where it was stated that "nothing should authorize intervention in matters essentially within the domestic jurisdiction of any state" (Charter of the United Nations and the Statute of International Court of Justice, 1945, p.3). • 75. The Debt Crisis Facing The Us And The International Community Thesis: Broadly speaking, the debt crisis facing the US and the international community is an issue that has far reaching implications not only for financial institutions but also to many working people and many economists are giving top priority in solving this issue. Body Paragraph: In early 2015, there was $18.2 Trillion in outstanding US debt held in federal agencies and trust funds which is currently 71.20% of the national GDP (CIA, 2015). Recently in the news we've seen activity geared towards Congress and the debt ceiling. To begin, the debt ceiling is a statutory limit on the amount of Treasury debt so the legislator can control the spending flows from the programs it has authorized (Murphy, 2011). Almost every fiscal year Congress raises the debt ceiling in order to keep the government operational which has become a frequently reoccurring problem. Between 2009 and 2013, deficits soared to an extraordinary level from $469 billion to $1.4 trillion which is almost 10% of the GDP. One point of interest however it is now projected to fall back to $469 billion by 2016. Regardless of any short term drop in the deficit that might occur the long term outlook still looks bleak.
