Description
Assessment
Starter (10 minutes)
Show children the following video
advertisement about rail safety,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uy-sIfsW7tg.
Question them about the safety
required and why this is important. What
should the family have done?
Discuss with children the carousel of
activities.
- listen to children’s
answers and discussion.
Can they identify the
key safety points?
- Can children express
their own emotions
towards the videos?
Main (20 minutes)
Carousel of activities – All scenarios set up
by the teacher. These will be done with
the mini figurines. For example, ball in the
middle of the track. Children in groups
will discuss and reason and record their
thoughts on the voice recording device on
the iPads.
- Can children discuss the
important features?
- Have children been able
to say what the people
should do to keep safe?
- Can they say what would
have happen if the people
went onto the rail?
Plenary (20 minutes)
Children will put all their learning into context
by creating an advert to help people around
the world and children their age. They will
need to use their persuasive writing to create
a script and then film their advert. They can
use the mini figurines
- Can children explain
other peoples place and
understand why these
are important?
Follow-up lesson
Children can manipulate their adverts either
adding to it or cutting certain parts. They will
then show their adverts to the class who will
give one star and wish. These can all be
collated and sent to the railway agencies who
operate in the local area. Additionally, they
can be posted on the internet.
Can children portray the
important message in
an appropriate way to
help other people?
Have they included all
the vital points related
to the lesson?
