HAIR REMOVAL CONSULTATION
Electrolysis

 Dr. Charles Michel discovered electrolysis in
  1875
Electrolysis is the only permanent and
safe method of hair removal.
Electrolysis Con’t
 A tiny probe the same size as the hair is
  inserted into the hair follicle.
Electrolysis Con’t

 Low electrical energy is then passed to the end of the probe
 Cauterizing the blood supply at the dermal papilla
Electrolysis Con’t

 Hair is then guided out of the follicle with tweezers
Hair Growth Stages

 There are three phases of hair growth
 Anagen – growing stage
 Catagen – shedding stage
 Teleogen – dead stage
 At any given point the majority of terminal
hair is in the growing stage
 Hair must be in the growing (anagen) phase
  to be removed permanently

Different Hair Growth Cycles

 Hair growth cycles vary according to where hair
  is growing on the body
 Hair on the head grows - 4-6 years
 Facial hair grows - 8-14 weeks
 Body hair grows – 8 weeks
 Growth cycles cannot be determined from the
appearance of the hair at the surface of the skin
 More than one treatment maybe necessary to
  permanently remove the individual hair
Three Methods of Permanent Hair
Removal
 Thermolysis – high frequency current,
produces heat which cauterizes and destroys
  the dermal papilla
 Galvanic – direct current, converts the body
salts and water into a lye solution that
  destroys the dermal papilla
 Blend – combination of Thermolysis (heat)
and Galvanic (lye) working together for faster
  hair removal
Reasons for Excessive Hair

 Type of Modality Used
 Minutes per session X cost
Duration of Treat Time

 Average Treatment Time will be 18 months
 Appointment times will be weekly
 Every other week
 Every 3-4 weeks
 Every 4-5 weeks
 Every 6 weeks
 Then as needed 1-2 times a year
Where To Treat

 Electrolysis can be performed on most parts
    of the body

  hours
 Ice may be applied to the area to reduce any
  swelling
 Do not dislodge any scabs
Training of Electrologist

 Training standards vary from state to state
 Universal precautions must be utilized
 Gloves
 Sterile disposable needles
 Disinfects skin
 Antiseptic
Pre-Cautions

 Individuals that have metal implants
 Pacemakers
 Cannot have galvanic or blend modality used
Common Side Effects

 Redness
 Swelling
 Pinpoint scabbing
 Should subside within days
Electrolysis

 Permanent method of hair removal
 Consider laser hair removal for larger areas of body:
 Legs
 Male backs
