I created my survey on
Survey monkey and included
questions needed for
gathering wanted
information. It was an open
survey meaning anyone
could answer it but whats
interesting to see is how my
results suddenly piled in
after I had shared the link on
various social media sites
such as Facebook and twitter,
manually adding in
responses was for people
without access to social
media and had to be asked
the questions personally.
This question was simply to understand
differences in my audience and what the ration
was. Surprisingly out of the thirty who took the
survey twenty were women and only ten men.
This result gives a good idea as to what kind of
things to focus on promoting in our magazine also
on different bands that we could focus on for
exclusive interviews.
My age groups varied but the most popular was
16-21 years with 22 people ticking this box, four
in the 10-15 years, 21+years had the remaining
four which leads us to believe that it would be
best to aimed our magazine toward teenagers
instead of younger children as the older audience
were the majority who answered my survey.
In this question rock was the most popular genre of
music chosen. With eighteen people picking this
category. Pop and acoustic were very close behind
with five people picking pop and four acoustic. The
most unpopular information was dance with only one
person picking this and two selecting the other option
but did not specify the genre of music they preferred.
This information is very useful as it shows us the
more popular type of music to involve in our
magazine and what people want to read about.
Monthly purchases of magazines was by far the
most popular option as twenty two people choose
this box. Five people choose the weekly box and
the remaining three choose daily. This is valuable
information as we can see that people tend to go
for monthly released magazine and as a magazine
we want to match the needs of our customers.
This questions answers varied a lot, equally with both having
been chosen eight times the most popular were Kerrang! And
MixMag. Six people choose the Classic rock answer and five for
the terrorizer option. Two people picked the other option but
did not specify what magazine they read and only one person
picked the we love pop magazine. This shows that the most
popular types of magazines were those to do with rock and
dance music. And to create a unique magazine involving both
of these would suit our readers better.
The answer here was very interesting as it was a
split half, 15 said they would pay £1-£3 and the
other 15 said £4-£7. This means that we could
price our newspaper anywhere between £1 and £7
and sales would more than likely not be affected.
The majority of people (26) said that they do like
to look at photos in a magazine as I assume this
helps break up long pieces of text and makes the
articles easier to read. The four said the didn’t like
looking at the photos, as this is a very visible
minority there would not be a huge affect even if
we didn’t invole photos in our magazine.
This question was closely drawn by interviews
(16) and new music releases (10) which gives us a
good indications of what the readers are buying
for. The gossip and free gifts were drawn with
two votes each which means these are not
important factors for the majority of the readers.
Here the majority said they prefer online
subscription(15) and ten of the votes were for
Tesco's which I feel is for convenience. Three
people said the prefer Sainsbury's and the
remaining two said Morrison's which shows
where we would be most likely to stock our
magazine.
Twenty one people voted for Leeds festival which I
believed happened because the majority of the people
who took the survey will have been from around the
area. It was an even split between Glastonbury and
wireless with both having three people choose these
options. The remaining three picked others but didn’t
not specify in the box which festivals these were.

Survey analysis

  • 2. I created my survey on Survey monkey and included questions needed for gathering wanted information. It was an open survey meaning anyone could answer it but whats interesting to see is how my results suddenly piled in after I had shared the link on various social media sites such as Facebook and twitter, manually adding in responses was for people without access to social media and had to be asked the questions personally.
  • 3. This question was simply to understand differences in my audience and what the ration was. Surprisingly out of the thirty who took the survey twenty were women and only ten men. This result gives a good idea as to what kind of things to focus on promoting in our magazine also on different bands that we could focus on for exclusive interviews.
  • 4. My age groups varied but the most popular was 16-21 years with 22 people ticking this box, four in the 10-15 years, 21+years had the remaining four which leads us to believe that it would be best to aimed our magazine toward teenagers instead of younger children as the older audience were the majority who answered my survey.
  • 5. In this question rock was the most popular genre of music chosen. With eighteen people picking this category. Pop and acoustic were very close behind with five people picking pop and four acoustic. The most unpopular information was dance with only one person picking this and two selecting the other option but did not specify the genre of music they preferred. This information is very useful as it shows us the more popular type of music to involve in our magazine and what people want to read about.
  • 6. Monthly purchases of magazines was by far the most popular option as twenty two people choose this box. Five people choose the weekly box and the remaining three choose daily. This is valuable information as we can see that people tend to go for monthly released magazine and as a magazine we want to match the needs of our customers.
  • 7. This questions answers varied a lot, equally with both having been chosen eight times the most popular were Kerrang! And MixMag. Six people choose the Classic rock answer and five for the terrorizer option. Two people picked the other option but did not specify what magazine they read and only one person picked the we love pop magazine. This shows that the most popular types of magazines were those to do with rock and dance music. And to create a unique magazine involving both of these would suit our readers better.
  • 8. The answer here was very interesting as it was a split half, 15 said they would pay £1-£3 and the other 15 said £4-£7. This means that we could price our newspaper anywhere between £1 and £7 and sales would more than likely not be affected.
  • 9. The majority of people (26) said that they do like to look at photos in a magazine as I assume this helps break up long pieces of text and makes the articles easier to read. The four said the didn’t like looking at the photos, as this is a very visible minority there would not be a huge affect even if we didn’t invole photos in our magazine.
  • 10. This question was closely drawn by interviews (16) and new music releases (10) which gives us a good indications of what the readers are buying for. The gossip and free gifts were drawn with two votes each which means these are not important factors for the majority of the readers.
  • 11. Here the majority said they prefer online subscription(15) and ten of the votes were for Tesco's which I feel is for convenience. Three people said the prefer Sainsbury's and the remaining two said Morrison's which shows where we would be most likely to stock our magazine.
  • 12. Twenty one people voted for Leeds festival which I believed happened because the majority of the people who took the survey will have been from around the area. It was an even split between Glastonbury and wireless with both having three people choose these options. The remaining three picked others but didn’t not specify in the box which festivals these were.
