2. • Stereotyping is a common thing in
today’s society. Many of us are
affected by stereotyping without
even realizing it.
3. • A stereotype is a
judgment people
may have about a
certain group, race
or lifestyle.
4. What’s the Big Deal About Stereotyping?
• Although some
people may believe
that stereotypes aren't
a big
deal, stereotypes
affect the way people
behave because they
add to bullying and
they make people feel
self-conscious.
5. How Do they Affect Us?
• Many people think
that stereotypes are
funny, or that they’re
not a big deal. In
reality, stereotypes
affect people of all
ages, and make them
feel bad about
themselves.
6. • Children who grow up around
stereotypes are more likely to
stereotype others, which can lead to
bullying.
7. Racism
• Certain stereotypes are a form of
racism. With people making fun of
others based on stereotypes, it
ultimately adds to the racism
problem we face in America today.
8. Have You Ever Been Stereotyped?

9. Self-Confidence
• Stereotypes affect people’s self-confidence in
many ways. Being picked on because of their
race or lifestyle can negatively affect someone
for their whole life.
10. • Michael Inzlicht of Toronto
University says, “Past studies
have shown that people
perform poorly in situations
where they feel they are being
stereotyped.”
• This means that
stereotypes affect the
way we feel and
behave around
ourselves and others.
11. Effects on Teenagers
• Almost all teenagers have
been subjects of bullying and
stereotypes. People even
stereotype teenagers as a
whole as being reckless and
stupid. These stereotypes can
cause people to not accept or
trust someone based on their
age group.
• This also affects a teenager’s
confidence greatly.

14. How to Stop Stereotyping
• Although we may not be able to stop
judging completely, it is definitely possible
to tone it down. First, we can monitor our
thoughts. This means to try and stop
thinking negatively about others. We can
also look for the positives in people rather
than their faults.
