Student Information
Review the important information below in relation to this assessment task.
Instructions
You are required to complete a set out for an on-ground slab in a group. You must demonstrate the following
skills:
Plan and Prepare
Show site boundaries
Set out first line for building alignment
Set out the right-angle corner
Install other building lines
Check building lines for square
You will be required to demonstrate the following skills:
Read the plans, materials, and task.
Interpret plans and apply NCC requirements.
Supply and use personal PPE correctly.
Identify the tools and equipment required and use them safely and correctly.
Follow any control measures identified in the toolbox talk and all assessor instructions.
Set up site safety requirements and environmental controls prior to activity.
Identify service locations from the services plan and adjust plans to avoid them.
Select correct materials and quantities for the practical.
Set out to correct set back measurements.
Set out at required height (FFL).
Set out building lines to plans and specifications within NCC tolerances.
Check set out for square, and measurements are correct to the plan.
After Assessor has confirmed completion, de -nail and store reusable profiles correctly.
Dispose of unusable profile components correctly and safely.
Clean, check, and correctly store tools.
Before you begin you must complete a JSA, Toolbox Talk, and participate in class discussions.
1. Install any required safety signs to the site fence. (The entrance to your site is the P block gates)

2. Locate the site boundary pegs.
3. Set up profiles and set string lines over the locater pins. DO NOT set up
string lines off the locater pins. Everything is set out from this so make
sure it is accurate.
4. Mark out the locations of the services and their depths. (i.e., don’t put a peg where services are).
5. Find the datum. Calculate the difference between the datum and the finished floor level (FFL).
6. Install profiles parallel to site boundaries back from building corners at FFL. Leave enough room to excavate
the footings.
7. Mark the longest building line on the profiles and set up string lines from these marks.
8. Using Pythagoras, calculate the diagonal measurement from corner to corner of the building outline.
Diagonal measurement = _________
9. Mark and string out the longest line that runs perpendicular (at right
angles) to the first building line.
10. Check your building outline for accuracy and square, by measuring corner
to corner and back to the boundary stringlines.
11. Mark out and string all other building lines off your first two string lines.
12. Check set out complies to the plans, specifications and the “Guide to Standards and Tolerances”.
13. Once the assessor has checked your work, inspect, clean, and store equipment and tools correctly and report
any faulty equipment to assessor.
