1. How did you use
media technologies in
the construction and
research, planning
and evaluation
stages?
2. In all stages of my coursework I used
a lot of different media technologies
both hardware and software
programmes in order to create and
present my work. All my coursework
is shown on a blog, which is a creative
and effective way of using the internet
to showcase work in chronological
order, showing a clear thinking process
and providing an easy way to look at
and edit my work. This shows digital
convergence as it is a quick and easy
way to present work and make it
interactive, as I have various links to
YouTube videos I have made surveys
so my audience can actively partake
rather than be passive. This was
especially helpful for planning and
research as it allowed me to plan
efficiently as I could go back over
posts and edit or change them where
needed. This helped in production as it
allowed me to keep an organised diary
of filming time and update schedules
and issues throughout so I would
know how to avoid them next time.

3. A key media programme I used for my
music video was final cut express, as it
was the best programme to edit our
video in. We used it to create cuts and it
allowed us to do this easily and
professionally. It also allowed us to add
filters and saturate/de-saturate
images, as well as create split screens
which were important to our narrative.
Plus, there were many transitions we
could use such as cross fades, which
again made our video look more
professional and helped create meaning
such as links with the visuals on the ‘I
saw you the other day’. I also used final
cut editing software to creatively
present my evaluation in a video
format. This was a really effective way
of combining visual illustrations with my
voiceover evaluating the processes I
went through in the music video
production.

4. Whilst filming we used many
different cameras for different
effects. When filming the video we
used Sony HD cameras, as they were
the best at catching images and
making the video clear, and it also
had a review button, so we could see
if we needed to re-shoot. In taking
pictures I used two different
cameras, one was a simple Kodak
and the other was a Nikon SLR. The
Nikon was really good for close up
shots like in my advert as you could
really play with focus and get a
specific image, whereas the Kodak
was good for the digipak images as it
picked up colours really well and had
easy settings that I could use to
change colours.

5. During the production of my
Digipak and Advert, adobe
Photoshop and illustrator was used
to create effects and a believable
product. I used Photoshop to create
the cartoon like feel to my Digipak
and edit the images to make them
really bright and colourful,
changing the hue and saturation. It
was also really easy to separate
sections of the image, like
highlighting the background and
adding blur to create focus, or
highlighting her face to increase
colour and make it stand out
against the rest of the image.
Illustrator was used to add text and
format both media texts, as it has a
wide variety of fonts and was easier
to arrange the fonts and images
into the conventional layout design.
