1. REFLECTIONS 27 Jan 2011, Thursday
It was a wonder fu l day after republic day. I was to take the class today on methods and strategies of teaching. My group had to sit through night to type the matter. I am grateful to my group members Afsal and Khalid who lend a great support by helping me in typing and content organization. By morning it was all ready to be delivered but, as for technical reasons we were not able to use the book reader, so I had to switch between lecture and demonstration method. The class started late as madam was busy with some work. I could not give the material before hand to madam. As I was about to enter her cabin she was moving to class. She just permitted me to take the class. The class was almost full in fact 18 in numbers; I started with the basics of as by asking about method and strategy. They were responding well as I expected. My plan was to give an overall idea about the unit as a whole and then concentrate on to 2 or 3 recent strategies and method. I started off quite well and covered a great deal of ground. It was elaborate and time consuming. It was quite good for the first 45 minutes I suppose, but later on it dragged a bit as students started feeling bored as its natural for any human being since the max. Attention span of any human being is 45 min. to the maximum. By this time I covered up to heuristic method. I could easily see the boredom in the eyes of my friends I asked madam a break. And she was kind to give us 5 min. after discussing with my group we came to consensus with my group and allotted each topic to each to be dealt in detail. After the break I switched on to demonstrating 2 new methods of teaching one being the game strategy of teaching vocabulary to young beginners and the other being sensitization as I demonstrated it everybody actively involved in the game, after which madam took over the session. She gave instructions as how to write the developmental reflections. What all aspects one should take into account while reflecting. She took my class as an example and started explaining every point as what she meant by that after which the class was dispersed.
Jerin C Issac
