The Yuan dynasty ruled China in the 13th-14th centuries and was established by the Mongols, who used educated Chinese people to fill government posts, which proved disastrous. Despite this inauspicious start, the dynasty saw rich cultural diversity develop before coming to an end in 1368 AD.
