The Han dynasty retained much of the centralized administrative structure of the Qin dynasty but established some vassal principalities in certain areas for political convenience. Technology advanced during the Han dynasty to include paper, the compass, and the seismograph. The Han dynasty also expanded trade with foreign countries.
