2. The Map of Janda Baik
JandaBaik is a small village in Pahang not far from Kuala Lumpur, with a
population of approximately 1000 people. This area is very popular for their obstacle
challenges such as jungle trekking, abseiling, flying fox, water rafting, waterfalls and
many more. On the first day of our trip, we went to DanauDaun Resort and Taman
Hana Wadi Husain (University of Life). Then on the second day, we went to visit D’
ARK which stands for Datuk Abdul Rashid &Keluarga. After that we went to visit the
traditional houses and had fun playing in a river. We had BBQ for our dinner. The
last day, we went for jungle trekking to a waterfall in the LipurLentang Forest
Reserve
Danau Daun Chalets (D’ Daun)
3. The first site we visited is called DanauDaun Chalets. It is a beautiful
one-room suite that can accommodate 2 to 3 people.
As I walk up the stairs, I am immediately greeted with a beautiful and large
wooden balcony with an excellent view of the man-made pond. The materials used
for the floor and the pillars supporting the roof are made from wood, which gives the
idea that I am one with the environment, and this is what people should expect when
visiting a beautiful countryside surrounded by jungles.
4. The interior is simple, tidy, and most importantly airy. I like the open air
concept of this suite because it does not have the “Isolated” feeling like houses do in
the city. Also, most of the furniture there are made from wood. This place is purely
made for accommodation.
Taman Hana Wadi
Taman Hana Wadi has amazing landscape and architecture. People who
comes to visit here can have a chance to experience the beauty of landscaping, it
can also encourage them to do landscaping for their house. Experience tranquillity…
5. Houses that are surrounded by flora. Banana Plant, Coconut Tree and etc…
6. D’ ARK (Datuk Abdul Rashid &Keluarga)
D’ARK (Datuk Abdul Rashid
&Keluarga) or Ashida Villa is a
resort/hotel in
PulauSantap,JandaBaik. Ashida Villa
incorporates traditional Siamese style
design architecture to their buildings.
The buildings there are built by using
wood, such as walls, floors and etc…

8. Natural and Built Environment Relationship
-Differences
The difference of JandaBaik (rural) compared to other places like Kuala Lumpur
(urban) is the number of trees available.JandaBaik is in the jungle so the trees are
abundant unlike in Kuala Lumpur. Density is also another defference,JandaBaik has
low density population whereas Kuala Lumpur has a very high density population.
Therefore traffic in Kuala Lumpur is more likely to be congested. The rate of pollution
is also very low in JandaBaik, the air is very fresh and the water is in pristine
condition, the temperature there is also a lot cooler than in the city.
-My Experience
:Natural Environment
There are many advantages of living in a natural environment, such as I can sleep,
breathe, and exercise better. So in terms of health, being in a natural environment is
definitely better. But there are a few drawbacks in living in a natural environment, like
lack of commercial buildings, hospital, clinic, shops and public transport.
:Built Environment
Personally, I prefer living in a built environment despite the health drawbacks when
being in the city. Because it is much more convenient to commute, buy things, and
seek help if I have an emergency just in case of an accident.
9. Other Roles of an Architect
During my stay at JandaBaik, and after visiting so many different places there,
my definition of an Architect has definitely changed dramatically. In the past, my
thought of an architect was merely to design and create new buildings, and nothing
else. But now, I think an architect can consider many issues when designing a new
building, such as, landscaping, the environment, the preservation of tradition and art.
The environment is so fragile these days, so architects can contribute by proposing
eco-friendly designs like the re-use of water to cool down the facility like the one in
McLaren Technology Centre and landscaping. Also I feel that the current generation
of people are too ignorant to even want to know about their art and traditions, so,
architects can preserve the traditions by building or preserving traditional houses
similar to the Siamese Villa in D’ARK.
My Proposed Element and Object
I propose that gardens should be included into, on top or around all buildings
in the next generation. Because, it can make a city greener, cleaner and also
mitigates the heat island phenomenon. This should be implemented all over the
world in all cities.
