LEADERSHIP IN ACTION
“Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.”
̶ John F. Kennedy
“Leadership is the art of giving people a platform for spreading ideas that work.”
̶ Seth Godin
CONGRESSWOMAN TULSI GABBARD
In Hawaii, we import more than 85 percent of the food we eat.
At the same time, the average age of a farmer in Hawaii is
almost 56 years old. Our agriculture industry is at a crossroads;
if we truly want to grow more of what we eat, we must
encourage the consumption of locally-grown produce, empower
our local farmers who are growing food, and cultivate a new
generation of farmers to choose agriculture as a profession. The
growth of farmers' markets and school gardens are a step in the
right direction. We must continue to work toward food security
in Hawaii and a revitalization of our rural areas.
CONGRESSWOMAN COLLEEN HANABUSA
Every year, congressional ofces submit federal funding requests
to the House Committee on Appropriations. Congresswoman
Hanabusa looks forward to advocating for federal funding
important to you and the First District of Hawaii.
