2. How might we...
encourage Rafael, a 17y.o.
confused brazilian graduating
High School student, to make his
carrer/professional choice with
more consistency and security?
Talking to his parents,
asking their opinions
Knowing more details about
the experiences that his
parents had in choosing
their carrers
Doing a “vocational
test”
Going to a
psychologist
Talking to his teachers
Asking the school to provide a
“carreer fair”, with all kind of
professionals telling their
routines
Asking Rafael what he really likes to
do, what feeds his soul, if he has
some kind of talent or something
that make him feel proud of
If its a profession.. Talk
to someone who works
with it. Go and pass one
day with this person.
Go to a trip around the
world for one year, live
what you want to live and
make your decision after
that.
Research about all the
professions that he’s
initially interested in..
School providing a discipline for all
graduating students named “How
to make a carreer/professional
choice”
School preparing the parents
for this phase, how better
support their sun
3. How might we...
encourage Rafael, a 17y.o.
confused brazilian graduating
High School student, to make his
carrer/professional choice with
more consistency and security?
Create a facebook page
for his colleagues, in
order to share their
difficulties in the
profcess
Make a list with at
least 10 professions
he could have
Verify wich disciplines
the “Colleges
courses” have for all
those 10 professions.
I bet he got more
interested in just a
few courses
Visit some Colleges and
talk to professors there.
Talk to everyone you
know that are happy with
their professions (try to
include professinals who
work with some carrers
you may be already
interested in).
Make him choose three of them,
take a “Time Machine” and see his
“three different futures”. Wich one
does make him the happiest guy?
Asking Rafael how he
pictures himsef in the
future...
Talk to the College’s
students also, ask them
about the courses.
Ask them how they ended
that way, what they did,
how did they choose that
path. Explore and learn
their experiences, ask, ask,
ask.
5. The most practical idea: Doing a “vocational test”
I think it’s the most obvious idea for a teenager who is confused about his profession..
At least it’s a start for the process and it’d make him think more about it. There are a
lot of professionals specialized in these tests, or (a free option), fiding a online test in
internet, from a trustfull source.
The most disruptive idea (one that would make a huge impact, regardless of how
feasible or affordable it is): Going to a trip around the world for one year, live what
you want to live and make your decision after that”.
Well.. Every teenager should taste the world before choosing his carreer.. I bet we’d
have a lot of happier people in the world by now. Connecting to other cultures, to
different kind of people, making that “inside journey” while knowing different
landscapes. That’s my fantasy, and I’m sure Rafael would like to do this as well. I wish
it was that simple, and I wish it was chipper! Experiment yourself first and choose your
carreer after!
6. Your favorite idea (one idea that you are excited about for whatever reason... you
don’t have to justify why): Talk to everyone you know that are happy with their
professions (try to include professinals who work with some carrers you may be
already interested in).
It’s a simple solution, that came to me when I was finalizing my creative process.. But
I was really excited about it. Everyone knows people that are happy and proud about
their jobs, and it’s so important to ask them HOW THEY CHOSE their carreers, why, how
they feel about it today, what they could have done differently. Sometimes, experience
must be shared! I wish I had done the same!
