Week 8 Lesson 1
Preparation for Field insights
“What will we ask the expert, how will we
present this and what are our etiquette
responsibilities?”

Aquatic Practices (2014)
E3.2 Actions conserve, sustain and bio remediate aquatic
environment
 definitions of conservation, sustainability and
bioremediation
 legislation rules and regulations exist to conserve and
sustain aquatic environments, e.g. Marine Park Zones and
Government Departmental Authorities fishing rules and
regulations
 Aboriginal communities and Torres Strait Islander
communities have knowledge’s and practices that support
ecosystem condition, e.g. ceremonial purposes, sustainable
living
Student Activities
 Previous lessons the student’s will have the
opportunity to rework and revise any issues or
errors identified in week 7 by their critical peer
review.
 This lesson the students will be required develop a
brief description (5 min) to summarise their
proposal.
 This will be presentation to the field expert with a
list of questions they may need to clarify or discuss
with the field expert.
 This is scheduled for the follow up lesson and will
be used to present their proposed ideas to a field
expert.
 The presentation should consider who they are
speaking to and identify key questions the students
feel will be key in the ongoing development of the
proposal.

Student Activities Cont..
 This presentation can be submitted in any form the
students feel comfortable with. Creation of digital
presentation will be evidence for higher order thinking
skills.
 They will be supplied with ICT resources such as digital
cameras and school approved computer programs such as
Windows Movie Maker.
 The presentation must be sent/received by the teacher as
part of the assessment requirements, it will be used for
ongoing evidence and grade towards the final mark.
 This presentation and key questions will be developed and
submitted to the teacher for further evidence of the
assessment standards.

Student Activities Cont..
 The teacher will set up a skype meeting with the deputy
principal and the year 11 students.
 The aim of the skype session is to give the students a
lesson on professional code of conduct when using
communication devices such as skype and conference
calls.
 This experience will give the students a short lesson on
what will happen when the professional calls, who will
introduce the presentations, etc.

 This will also give the students an opportunity to identify
roles and responsibilities for the upcoming skype session
with the field expert.
 This lesson will be followed up with the skype meeting
with the field expert and community consultation and
continuing reworking of their proposals.
 The students will use the remaining week to further
develop plan in align with advice from the field expert.

 Week 8 - The students will develop a short
summary presentation for the field expert.
 This presentation and key questions will be
developed and submitted to the teacher for
further evidence of the assessment standards.

Teacher notes
 The practice skype session with the Deputy Principal will
give the students exposure to acting professional and
using communication devices with high standards of
etiquette.
 The draft presentation will also be used by the teacher to
provide evidence of learning.
 The draft will also aid the teacher in providing additional
directions and suggestions based on the proposal outlined
by the groups.
 Creation of digital presentation will be evidence for
higher order thinking skills.

Preparing student presentations for a field expert

  • 1. Week 8 Lesson 1 Preparation for Field insights
  • 2. “What will we ask the expert, how will we present this and what are our etiquette responsibilities?” Queensland Curriculum (Senior Science) Aquatic Practices (2014) E3.2 Actions conserve, sustain and bio remediate aquatic environment  definitions of conservation, sustainability and bioremediation  legislation rules and regulations exist to conserve and sustain aquatic environments, e.g. Marine Park Zones and Government Departmental Authorities fishing rules and regulations  Aboriginal communities and Torres Strait Islander communities have knowledge’s and practices that support ecosystem condition, e.g. ceremonial purposes, sustainable living
  • 3. Student Activities  Previous lessons the student’s will have the opportunity to rework and revise any issues or errors identified in week 7 by their critical peer review.  This lesson the students will be required develop a brief description (5 min) to summarise their proposal.  This will be presentation to the field expert with a list of questions they may need to clarify or discuss with the field expert.  This is scheduled for the follow up lesson and will be used to present their proposed ideas to a field expert.  The presentation should consider who they are speaking to and identify key questions the students feel will be key in the ongoing development of the proposal.   • 4. Student Activities Cont..  This presentation can be submitted in any form the students feel comfortable with. Creation of digital presentation will be evidence for higher order thinking skills.  They will be supplied with ICT resources such as digital cameras and school approved computer programs such as Windows Movie Maker.  The presentation must be sent/received by the teacher as part of the assessment requirements, it will be used for ongoing evidence and grade towards the final mark.  This presentation and key questions will be developed and submitted to the teacher for further evidence of the assessment standards.   • 5. Student Activities Cont..  The teacher will set up a skype meeting with the deputy principal and the year 11 students.  The aim of the skype session is to give the students a lesson on professional code of conduct when using communication devices such as skype and conference calls.  This experience will give the students a short lesson on what will happen when the professional calls, who will introduce the presentations, etc. Google images, 2015)
  • 6. Student Activities Cont..  This will also give the students an opportunity to identify roles and responsibilities for the upcoming skype session with the field expert.  This lesson will be followed up with the skype meeting with the field expert and community consultation and continuing reworking of their proposals.  The students will use the remaining week to further develop plan in align with advice from the field expert.
  • 8. ICT Resources  Skype  Video – Camera and computer editing  programs to continually develop proposal  Computer programs to continually develop proposal such as word programs  Movies  Prezi and PowerPoint (as students decide)  Group sites including Weebly, websites or blog
  • 10. Assessments  Week 8 - The students will develop a short summary presentation for the field expert.  This presentation and key questions will be developed and submitted to the teacher for further evidence of the assessment standards.

  • 13. Teacher notes  The practice skype session with the Deputy Principal will give the students exposure to acting professional and using communication devices with high standards of etiquette.  The draft presentation will also be used by the teacher to provide evidence of learning.  The draft will also aid the teacher in providing additional directions and suggestions based on the proposal outlined by the groups.  Creation of digital presentation will be evidence for higher order thinking skills.
