1. Lucia is a Swedish cultural event
that is celebrated December 13th.
2. Lucia was born in a rich family year 283 in
Italy. She was raised by her mother Eutychia.
She got arrested and tortured because she
didn´t want to marry the man her mother
wanted her to. Her mother got sick and she
praied to God to heal her. God said that Lucias
faith was healing her mother, not him.
3. Lucia was taken away in a carriage but the carriage
froze and stopped. The men poored boiling oil on her
and put a sword in her throat, but she was still alive.
Her husband was not christian and when he found out
she was sacrifacing everything she owned to God he
took her to Rome to be sentenced to death. It was
illegal to be a christian. She was burned on a stake in
year 304 but the flames avoided her because they
didn´t want to harm her. The romens became very
angry and killed her with a sword in her stomach.
She died when she was 21.
4. We celebrate Lucia by singing songs in gruops of
people. The Lucia stands in the front and is always
dressed in a white dress, a crown of candles and a
red belt.
The belt symbolizes the blood and the crown
symbolizes fire. Behind Lucia is the terns.
They are also dressed in white and wear glitter in
their hair and around their waist. There are also star
boys with a cone on their head. Sometimes there can
be santas and gingerbreads.
5. During lucia we often eat ”lussekatter” or
Lucia buns. We also eat gingerbread and
drink hot chocolate and sing songs.
