Learning Experience : A Multi Disciplinary Study Tour
Summary of learning experience:
Being involved in this multi–disciplinary study tour has provided me with the opportunity to have
multiple educational and confronting experiences that would otherwise be difficult to experience in
Australia through a textbook. Whilst being in Sri Lanka we were able to be involved, tested and
challenged at the various organizations, institutes, schools and hospitals. Visiting a wide variety of
health systems throughout Sri Lanka provided an insight to the development of the country and the
issues they face. The healthcare professionals were very specific and concise when explaining the
ongoing problems they encounter and how they plan to target them.
When I reflect on my learning experience from the study tour I now understand how to target a
specific audience and their needs rather than have a general outlook on what a person's health and
wellbeing should include. For example the reasons why Sri Lanka has overweight/obese individuals
differs to that of Australia and therefore the intervention strategies in Sri Lanka need to be different
to a western society.
I also have a better understanding on how politics and the community can conflict when prioritizing
the needs of the country. This is evident when rural hospitals are neglected with the medical staff
and supplies compared to the urban hospitals and also when job opportunities are stopped when
being educated in the public or private sectors.

Pathos, and Logos in relation to the main character, Jude. We will look at how the author uses Ethos,
Pathos, and Logos in response to the main character, Jude's self–identity, self oppression, and family
oppression. The problem faced is Millie coming to America to financially support her family in
Jamaica, and building a new house in Jamaica. As the reader, as you read this novel, you may ask
several questions such as "What is preventing Millie from supporting her family?" "Will Millie
finish building her new house in Jamaica?"
"Bay Leaves and Cinnamon Sticks:Life Is , is a novel that is rich in the Jamaican culture with a
protagonist author. The main character, who is Millie, a god–living, giving woman who refuses to
accept defeat. At times, Millie can be naive, but also capable of insight and wisdom.
As displayed in the novel, these positive traits work to attract others in the novel. Thompson
portrays the colorful lifestyle of the Caribbean and most stereotypes such as the lying, thieving man
as a husband, and having children who are selfish. In my opinion, there appears to not be any
historical context in connection within the novel.
