The Boy On Cinnamon Street Summary
The Boy on Cinnamon Street Report The Boy on Cinnamon Street is written by an author named
Phoebe Stone. She was born on December 22, 1947 and is now 68 years old. Phoebe is a writer and
a painter. She spent her childhood drawing and telling stories as she drew. Before concentrating on
creating books for children and young adults, Phoebe had a very successful career as a fine arts
painter. She was also a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, and is an award–winning artist
who has received two Council on the Arts fellowships for painting. Her work has been exhibited
widely in many museums and galleries all around New England and New York City and it also
appears in many private collections. In the book the story takes place in the town of South
Pottsborg. In the beginning of the book, it's winter and there is snow everywhere, but towards the
end it changes into spring. The conflict is man vs. himself because somebody left Louise a note that
said "I am your biggest fan"and she shows it to her best friend Reni who thinks its from a boy ...

They think it's Benny so they start sending him notes and gifts back but at an art opening they find
out it wasn't him and Louise is so disappointed and embarrassed that she starts bawling and runs
away. Henderson finds her in her old house where her mother committed suicide and comforts her
while she is getting all of her memories back of her mother. After a couple of weeks of being sick
she finds out it was Henderson who sent all of those things and they fall in love. Readers should take
in from the story that all broken hearts can be cured. Whatever your going through it will get better
you can't bottle up your emotions it's better to let the out first and then heal. Louise's grandma
supports and recommends this idea when she gets her memories back by telling her to let all of her

Steam Distillation Of Cinnamaldehyde : The Pharmaceutical...

Distillation of Cinnamaldehyde Introduction Arguably, the industry that most utilizes advancements
in organic chemistry is the pharmaceutical sector. It is critical to continuously develop new drugs to
provide cures and symptom removers for the numerous diseases, ailments, and illnesses still yet to
be remedied. Throughout the course of human history, natural products, evolved by biology, have
been used to treat diseases and injuries. Morphine, a pain–killer was derived from a flower while
olive oil has been used to improve wound healing efficiency1. There have even been
paleoanthropological studies to suggest that Neanderthals, an early ancestor of humans, might have
used some species of plants as medicine. This trend continued far into the 20th century, until the
1990s, where there was a switch in the pharmaceutical industry to research and develop drugs based
on combinatorial chemistry1. However, failure to discover new compounds by organic synthesis, to
yield drugs in medicinal areas such as immunosuppression, anti–infectives, and metabolic diseases,
has prompted a resurgence in the age–old use of natural products2. Natural products today are
extracted from plants and other biological material to be concentrated into pills and anecdotes, while
some chemical extracts can even be used in the synthesis of more complex drug derivatives. One
such natural product, long used for

Essay On Aromatize Coffee
How to aromatize your coffee. Ideas to vary the flavors in your cup
As I said a few months ago, I am passionate about coffee , both when it comes to tasting it and
knowing different varieties and experimenting with recipes and uses in the kitchen. So when a
reader asked how I could make her own cinnamon coffee, I dedicated myself to investigate a little
on the subject of giving a special flavor to this drink. And the truth is that there are many ways we
can aromatize our coffee .
My favorite way to enjoy coffee is a good cup of espresso made properly, with good freshly ground
natural grains, quality water and respecting the right temperatures, without too much sweetening.
But from time to time I like to try other options, and add special aromas depending on the day. My
favorites are those that provide spices like cinnamon or nutmeg, and there are several ways we can
integrate them into the coffee. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They can be added to the freshly made, very hot drink, letting them infuse and then removing them,
or simply sprinkling some ground spice on top, although many people do not like to stain the coffee
surface.
Then another option is to aromatize the moment to sweeten the drink . Different sweeteners provide
different shades, for example using cane syrup or maple syrup, which give a very interesting roasted
touch. We can also use vanilla sugar, either homemade or commercial, which is usually used in
confectionery.
Instead of adding sugar to the cup, we can prepare a syrup to the taste with which to soften the
bitterness of the coffee. The easiest way to make homemade syrup is to heat the same volume of
water as sugar until it dissolves, so if we add a vanilla pod, cinnamon stick or another ingredient,
once it has cooled down and we stick it A flavored sweetener. It can be stored in an airtight container
in the refrigerator for several days.

Description– Apple–Snap Flakes are a frosted cinnamon sugar flake cereal with real dehydrated
apple chunks included. It is a new product we are starting to produce and we are expecting the
cereal to hit retail stores very soon. The cereal consists first of corn flakes, frosted (think frosted
flakes) and also cinnamon sugar on the flakes as well. This provides a sweet taste for the cereal, and
a crunch to compliment it. The other component of the cereal is the dehydrated apple chunks. These
are essentially dried apples, in the same vein as other strawberry cereals. The apples provide a
slightly tangy flavor to balance out the sweetness of the flakes. Also, once the apples are in milk,
they soften, creating a satisfying crunch from flakes and softness from the apples.

Creative Writing: Night Of The Living Dead Drug Store
What awoke him was the smell. A spicy, strong scent, one that reminded you of autumn nights and
apple cider. It filled his room and he opened his eyes at the strange intrusion. He would know that
smell anywhere. The smell of cinnamon flavored gum. The flavor that made your mouth feel like it
was on fire and sometimes left your eyes watering. The gum that nobody ever wanted at the drug

head, a smell that marked so many memories in his life, covered the corners of his mind. Frank's

Gerard's blank look didn't crack, but his eyes lost a bit of their glassy look. His face then curved into

ZI created by the cleaning solution and cinnamon oil discs. The remaining two plates in both groups
had observable colony formations, but did not produce measurable ZI. No colonies were observed
on any of the exercise mat or cable machine plates. Significant and measurable bacterial growth was
observed on all four of the R2A plates. The control disc yielded no zone of inhibition, while the

EMB media is also selective and differential. This media selects for Gram–negative bacteria due to
the toxicity of the dyes in it to Gram–positive bacteria. It differentiates bacteria by resulting in a
metallic green sheen being produced on the colonies that can ferment lactose. The fact that no
significant growth was observed on the 12 EMB plates suggests that there was a problem with the
plating method. It would be extremely unlikely to swab a surface and find no Gram–negative
bacteria present. The results of the MS and EMB trials led to a shift in swabbing and plating
methods in an attempt to maximize bacterial

I closed my eyes and sat quietly in the classroom. The slightest scent of cinnamon in the air and I
was stuck. It was like turning back the hands of time to the most beautiful Autumn season I could
remember. The aroma painted a picture in my mind that was so realistic every one of my senses
were triggered.
The first sense that my brain detected was my sense of smell. I could smell holiday baking in the
kitchen. Other things that I could smell were Big Red Gum, cinnamon buns, cinnamon pop tarts,
gingerbread, pumpkin pie, basically I could smell any fragrance associated with just plain cinnamon.

In the fall the weather is typically cool to cold, sometimes windy. That is if you are located
anywhere near Massachusetts. I remember a fall season which I spent in Washington D.C. Outdoors
playing in the park I could feel the crisp air chilling my body with each gust of wind. It was so cold
that fall that my cheeks, nose, and ears turned bright red. For this brief moment still sitting silent in
class I could feel chills up my spine just thinking of how cold it was.
Although the classroom was quiet I could hear otherwise. I let my imagination take over and I heard
all kinds of sounds. I could hear the front door squeaking as the wind blew it opened and closed.
There was noise from the tree branches rattling. Often I could hear the hooves of a horse clattering
against the pavement. The noisy neighbors leave blower sounded an annoying buzz making it hard
to concentrate from time to time. There are many different noises I hear when I reminisce about
autumn.
When I concentrated hard enough I could actually taste the foods which I had previously smelled.

Vanilla, Baking Soda, And Cinnamon Affect The Rate Of
Introduction: The question being investigated in this report is, "How does vanilla, baking soda, and
cinnamon affect the rate of fermentation in a 5% sucrose solution?" The hypothesis is, vanilla and
cinnamon will increase the rate of fermentation while baking soda will either decrease the rate of
fermentation or stay the same. The bread goes through a process called alcoholic fermentation, in
which pyruvic acid is converted into Carbon Dioxide and alcohol. As pyruvic acids go through
alcoholic fermentation, the alcohol produced evaporates and the Carbon Dioxide is found in the
little bubbles on the top of bread after it is baked. Alcoholic fermentation will be performed with
yeast, which is what makes bread rise, in this experiment. The yeast ... Show more content on

Based on the data, cinnamon, vanilla, and the control group all had the same height of bubbles at 1
cm. This shows that the cinnamon and vanilla did not increase or decrease the rate of fermentation.
This could be because the sugar in cinnamon and vanilla are not glucose or sucrose, which means
that these two ingredients could not go through fermentation. Baking Soda spiked up at 1.75 cm
because it releases Carbon Dioxide in the presence of acids (sugar). This increased the bubbles
because the bubbles are made of Carbon Dioxide. Baking Soda

Michael Ondaatje Poem The Cinnamon Peeler
"A woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle" (Irina Dunn, 1970).
This quote, while it may be frivolous, has an important message about how women are not objects
to be owned by men and that having a boyfriend or a husband is not necessary. Irina Dunn wrote this
on a bathroom wall in the 1970's, only 10 years into the beginning of the feminist revolution and 19
years before Ondaatje wrote his poem. Ondaatje's poem described in explicit detail his need to feel
he owns women, and how he over sexualized them in order to belittle and rape them. In Michael
Ondaatje's poem The Cinnamon Peeler he created an overly sexualized story displaying his sexist
and misogynistic ideas about his need to possess women and how he raped them.
Michael Ondaatje's poem was based on his need to feel he owns women. He used his distinct smell
of cinnamon to further show he owned her. He wanted people to smell the cinnamon that he put on
her body with his fingers as he said "You could never walk through markets without the profession
of my fingers floating over you" (Ondaatje, 1989). In the poem, he used his career to his advantage
because he could leave the scent of him all over his wife as a way of marking his territory like a dog.
He is very one dimensional and sexist in that he thinks women are below men. Michael Ondaatje
thought women were only as important as their husband. He thought his wife had no identity past
being his wife, all he thinks is important is that "[she was ] known among strangers as the cinnamon
peeler's wife" (Ondaatje, 1989). In today's social norms it is routine for men to be asked about work
while women are asked about their husbands. It is unconscious and this type of sexist thinking has
been programmed into males and females since the day they were born. This sentence immediately
told the reader that he saw women as nothing other than their husband's property. He told his wife
that all she will ever be know as is his wife. To him, she is no longer her own person but merely an
object for him to possess. The wife in this poem had been conditioned to believe she is nothing
without him. She reluctantly said "I am the cinnamon Peeler's wife. Smell me" (Ondaatje, 1989). In
this sentence, the reader

Comparing Kafka's The Metamorphosis And Cinnamon Shop
Literary artists, from authors to poets, have used their works to explore their histories and traditions
in relation to society. These themes have changed the way in which a reader interprets different
works. This essay will primarily examine the implications of culture, language and traditions in
Kafka's novel The Metamorphosis and Schulz's short story Cinnamon Shops.
Franz Kafka, born in Prague (1883–1924) and Bruno Schulz born in Drohobych (1892 – 1942) were
both born into Jewish families of the Austro–Hungarian Empire (1867 – 1918). Kafka was part of a
middle– class German–speaking family, whereas Schulz was part of a humble, Polish speaking
family. During this time, Prague constituted of a large Jewish population, the working class majority

Kafka and Schulz both have unique methods in formulating a story. Kafka's work tends to be 'sober'
whereby he writes about the most bizarre of things but in a methodical and straightforward manner.
The reader immediately gets this impression from the onset, as Kafka dives straight into the action,
rather than offering the reader a reasonable explanation. Schulz, on the other hand, is very artistic in
the way he writes. Schulz was a writer as well as an artist, his artistry is shown through the use of
his descriptive and almost phantasmagorical language. Schulz opens with "At the time of the
shortest sleepy winter days edged on both sides of furry dusk mornings and evenings" (Schulz, 1).
His use of sibilance "shortest sleepy" sets the tone of the story. The alliterative 'S' has created a
rhythm which suggests a lethargic and composed atmosphere. With the additional effect of the in–
between of 'Mornings and evenings', the setting is both alienated from the day, as well as the night.
By doing this Schulz has introduced a twilight effect which adds a sense of mystery and

The isolation of Volatile Oils from Cinnamon

Isolation of Volatile Oil from Cinnamon
Purpose: The purpose of this experiment was to isolate the components of cinnamon by using
multiple techniques. The techniques involved in the experiment include: distillation, extraction,
filtration, refractomery, gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, and the use of ChemDraw.
Introduction:
Cinnamon is the second most important spice that is sold throughout the world.1 The word
Cinnamon originates from the word cassia. Cassia is the meaning of a plant that mainly contains
leguminous genus. Cinnamon bark originates from the culivtated trees of Cinnamomum zeylanicum
Nees, Lauraceae.2 Cinnamons usages include: flavoring for foods, medicinal purposes, agricultural
needs, and pesticides. Cinnamon does not have a chemical structure, which is replaced for
Cinnamaldehyde, which covers 97% of cinnamon. Figure 1 illustrates the chemical structure of
Cinnamaldehyde. Terpenoids and isoprene's are located in the volatile oil of cinnamon, which play a
major role in the color and odor of cinnamon. Cinnamon has several constituents that include:
Cinnamaldehyde, cinnamic acid, coumarin, linalool, eugenol, and methyl cinnamate. These
constituents were analyzed further by using technical processes. The isolation of cinnamon oil has
evolved over sever years. The isolation originally began as a liquid–liquid extraction with methylene
chloride

have many goals that I wanted to do throughout my life. In this essay, I will write about three most
important goals in my life. The first goal is education, and the second goal is family and the third
goal are to build my own house.
I think the most important goal in the life for everyone is education. Education is very important
because if you do not have a good education it will be hard to get a job. In many countries, it is very
hard to get a good education, and I feel very proud to live in a country where it is easy to get an
education. Many people think education is only reading and writing, but it is more than that.
Education gives us knowledge of the world around us and changes it into something better. The
main reason education is important for me is that I want to get a job I like to work with. I hope that I

like the interior, and it is a very big part of my life because I like to watch programs which are about

I often buy things I can have in my room, and I am the person how often, choose which furniture

The World 's First Publicly Traded Company Best Known As...
From multiple points of view, the history of spices industry is in the history of humans and global
commerce. The use of spices in food, cosmetics, and embalming can be traced back to ancient
Egyptians around 3000 B.C. In the course of time, Spices' demand increased and trade were spread
out from Africa and Asia to the Middle East, Mediterranean and Europe. The influence of spice
trade was able to determine the rise and fall of nations based on each country's trading position. In
March 1602, the World's first publicly traded company best known as United East India Company
was created as a result of essence and expansion of the spice trade. After that, the spice business
continued to grow in the 20th century and by 2001 there were over 150 spice manufactures in the
United States.
II Company Overview and Analysis Pacific Grove Spice started as a small specialty grocer on the
Monterey Peninsula of California in 1980s. Pacific's mission statement emphasized its commitment
to highest quality and freshest spice. The market share of Pacific Grove is relatively small as it
targets high–end stores and customers.
1. SWOT Analysis Pacific Grove Spice Company's most significant strength is its wide range of
international food spices, this has resulted form one of the founders Judith Findra's particular
interest in Asian and Indian Cuisine. Pacific became "the" place to find spice in Central California

Analysis Of Cinnamon Peeler
The Cinnamon Peeler
Feminism has been around for centuries. Victim feminism leads to negative perceptions and the
alienation of women. Women seem powerless and almost to the point of rejecting any power they do
have. It portrays women as "just that", a woman. There to do the woman's job, and only that. By
examining the poem "Cinnamon Peeler" by Michael Ondaatje, the reader gets a feel of victimized
women and the inequality of women in a male dominated society. The Cinnamon Peeler himself is
portrayed as a wealthy and prosperous man. Cinnamon is an exotic eastern spice, so this symbolizes
social and economic status. He is portraying himself on a higher status than women.
The sentence "If I were a cinnamon peeler I would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This ankle. You will be known among strangers as the cinnamon peeler's wife." He is speaking in
detail about the female's pubic hair and private body parts. This exposes her and makes her feel bad
or embarrassed about herself. By making her feel degraded and exposed this way, he gets upper
hand on her, which makes it much easier to be a controlling man
There are signs of a clearly male dominated society. With women being defined in terms of the
males in their lives. For example, "The Cinnamon Peelers wife", "the Lime Burner's daughter" and
"The Grass Cutters wife". Michael Ondaatje tries to convince the reader that women are just women.
Not individual unique girls. He explains how they are labelled by their male husbands, brothers or
fathers. He portrays women as non–competitive, cooperative, and peace–loving. He does not define
them as fearless, powerful and independent. Another example is when Michael says "You touched
your belly to my hands in the dry air and said I am the cinnamon Peeler's wife. Smell me." This is
another example of labelling a woman. By touching her, he makes her, his. She is no longer an
individual, she is only considered "the Cinnamon Peeler's wife". This is a sign of sexual domination.
He makes it sound like he owns her.
When Michael Ondaatje states "I could hardly glance at you before marriage never touch you ––
your keen nosed mother, your rough brothers. I buried my hands in saffron, disguised

Spices And Its Effect On Food
Introduction–
Spices, have been around for thousands of years. Spices would be used in food to flavor it, giving it
tastes like spicy or sour. The spices back then would be cherished as tradeable goods to other
countries for a trade of currency, but soon the early cultures found out that the spices they were
trading could be used to prevent food spoilage. As an antimicrobial, many spices could be helpful to
get rid of the bacteria that can be found on food, or to preserve the food as well. Bacteria can spread
from anywhere, through the air, from the ground, and even from a person's hands right when food is
about to be eaten. There are many spices used to preserve food like onions, cinnamon, cloves,
mustard, rosemary, sage, and black peppers. These kinds of spices are classified as either strong,
medium, or weak because of their inhibitory effect that they have with bacteria. (Documents/Spices)
Cinnamon is one of these spices with these strong inhibitory effects. Cinnamon refers to the dried
bark of different types of beverages and chocolates it can be made into. Cinnamon would be used
not only for food, but also used when making cosmetics. Not only can cinnamon be used for food,
but as a health promoting–agent, to treat inflammation, stomachaches, and urinary infections.
(ncbi.nih.gov) Researchers have found that cinnamon can be used as an antimicrobial factor to get
reduce growth bacteria. (ncbi.nih.gov) Researchers soon studied that cinnamon was one of the

In America, Obesity is one of the biggest problems we have. (No pun intended) According to the
NIDDK, 1 of 3 adults in America are considered to be obese. Obesity is where a person has a BMI

OBESITY is a problem because people are now not having enough energy to spend time with their
families and people are dying due to this problem. I chose this issue because I know that people

I believe that if adults are targeted first they will eventually want to help their children and families
with their weight as well. We know that our program is working if I physically see weight dropping
and if I see that s/he is happier and has more energy to perform tasks. This program has different
goals, depending on the person. The trainer will give each person little goals at a time. For example,
the trainer would say to be at two hundred by the end of the four month mark see if they have
reached it at the end. I do not want the government to be involved with this new deal because I want
to show the government that we don't need their help with everything, they aren't doing anything
about the obesity problem we have in America. Individuals and companies should make this
program to help the people that aren't getting help from the government. People get food stamps, life
support and even child support. Why can't obese people get some kind of support only for them?

Antifungal Activity Of Essential Oils
Antifungal activity of essential oils against respiratory tract pathogens causing Aspergillosis
Abstract:
Invasive Aspergillosis is often found in severely immuno–suppressed patients, and is characterized
by invasion of blood vessels which can result into dissemination to other organs. Aspergilloma is a
fungal ball that develops in previous cavitary lung lesions. Essential oils and their volatile
constituents have been used as antifungal. Inhalation of vapours of the essential oils kill invaders
attached to the inner respiratory lining and work synergistically with the body defences. In this
study, Five essential oils were used against aspergillus fumingatus using cut plug method and the
essential oil showes inhibitory activity against A. flumingatus the most effective oils against
A.fumigatus were found to be of Cinnamomum verum (Cinnamon), Lavandula angustifoli
(Lavendre), Foeniculum vulgare (Fennel), Zingiber officinale (Ginger) and Cinnamomum
camphora(Camphor) with inhibition zones ranging between 11 to 31 mm Treating the organism with
cinammom essential oil led to an external changes, irregular cell shape and disintegration of fungus
cell wall under transmission electron microscope Analysis by GCMS showed at leas 8 components,

Bay Leaves And Cinnamon Stick Life Is Summary
Bay Leaves and Cinnamon Sticks: Life is Some stories have a very good way of persuading a
person to see life in a different way. Thelma B. Thompson gave a wonderful meaning in her book
"Bay Leaves and Cinnamon Sticks: Life Is". The theme for this novel would have to be morality.
Millie tried to figure out what the right thing to do throughout the whole novel. She sees the wrong
and does not proceed with the wrong full things. As she states when Jude told her he was in that
selling drugs business "go turn yourself in". Millie knows what is right and what is wrong. The
author did a good job with how she produced this novel. In this novel there is a main character, her
name is Millie. She was born in Jamaica. Millie received her visa and moved to New York to find
better opportunities. She has four children. The girls live with her sister Imogene. The two boys live
with their father's relatives. She went to visit Jamaica, she landed at the airport and waited for her
husband to show and he never did. She met this man named William Hope. He was a cab driver and
he took her home. Later that night, she found out that her husband, Jude was seeing another woman.
She came across this letter from Canada from the woman who Jude had been seeing. Millie was
devastated. She was sending him money to build her house and there was no sign of the new house.
The following day she went to find Omega, he is a person who helps various people in Jamaica.
Omega gave her the advice she needed to

Cinnamon Oil Lab Report
My hypothesis stated, "If I measure the amount of carbon dioxide produced when yeast reacts with
water and tea tree essential oil, then it will produce the least amount of carbon dioxide." However,
my hypothesis was proven to be false. My data shows that the trial with the Cinnamon oil produced
the least amount of carbon dioxide, meaning that Cinnamon oil would be theoretically the most
effective in fighting yeast/fungal growth. The order of the essential oils, in most effective to least
effective, is as follows: Cinnamon oil, tea tree oil, and lavender oil. The weight of the amounts of
carbon dioxide they produced is as follows, in the same order as they were listed: 0.3 grams, 0.6
grams, and 0.8 grams. I set a benchline when I tested the carbon dioxide production without the
presence of an essential oil and found that the weight of the carbon dioxide was 1.1 grams. Based
off of my data I can conclude that all of the essential oils had an impact on the amount of carbon
dioxide produced. This leads me to believe that any one of these oils could be used to fight yeast
growth, but Cinnamon essential oil would be the most effective. ... Show more content on

doing this, I may be able to prove that the natural oils are just as, if not more effective than the
chemical formula as far as treating a fungal growth efficiently. When a patient gets a fungal or yeast
growth, they immediately want it gone. Testing the speed of the chemicals versus the natural
remedies could help the patient choose a reliable treatment that will benefit their body the

The King And Queen Of Monsters
Your fingers flew across the keyboard of your laptop, so a crisp clicking noise echoed through the
quiet café. You stopped for a second to skim your eyes over the text you just wrote. You were
documenting your opinion about the recent meeting that the King and Queen of monsters had with
the officials. It hadn't turned out well. The officials were stiff and stubborn. Refusing to even listen
to their requests. You heaved a heavy sigh and picked up your coffee cup, turning it in your hands as
you allowed your mind to wander. It had been just a few months since the monsters moved to the
surface, and as suspected, some people weren't taking very well. Except for a group called the MRO.
It stood for the Monster Rights Organization, it was a small group started by the Human
Ambassador of the monsters (and the King and Queen) in hopes of getting more rights and
supporters for the monsters. Not many people had joined, but you were one of the exceptions.
Hoping to keep a low profile (but still be a help), you started an anonymous blog where you spread
the word about monster rights and helped to encourage people to take a stand. You were brought out
of your thoughts by the ringing of a bell. You turned to see two monsters walk into the café. You
almost dropped your coffee. They were skeletons. Moving (alive?) skeletons. This was your first
time actually seeing a monster in person. Normally you kept your distance and watched the events
and meetings on TV. You tried to act casual

Cinnamon Controversy
Cinnamon is a common everyday spice obtained from the inner bark of several trees from the genus
Cinnamomum that is used to flavor both sweet and savory foods. The strong taste and scent come
from cinnamaldehyde. The essential oil of cinnamon bark is around 90% cinnamaldehyde
(Wikipedia). Cinnamon trees are generally tropical trees but can be grown in all 50 states simply by
bringing the trees indoors before temperatures drop below 40 degrees and also providing an
abundant amount of light. Several methods of laboratory production exist, but cinnamaldehyde is
most sparingly obtained from the steam distillation of the oil of cinnamon bark.
The most obvious application for cinnamaldehyde is as flavoring in chewing gum, ice cream, candy,
and beverages.

Cinnamon And Diabetic Analysis
Cinnamon is a well–known spice and it is the second most important spice used in the US and
European markets. It has antimicrobial, antioxidant, antiulcerogenic, anti–diabetic, and analgesic
effects (218,219). Cinnamon is beneficial for the health of patients with type 2 diabetes (220). The
oils and extracts from Cinnamomum zeylanicum L. possess a powerful antioxidant activity due to
the presence of phenolic and polyphenolic substances (221). Cinnamomum zeylanicum
demonstrated numerous beneficial effects both in vitro and in vivo as a potential therapeutic agent
for DM, and it also showed beneficial effects against diabetic neuropathy and DN (222). It reduces

Furthermore, it is an essential component of numerous proteins involved in the defense system
against OS. It was known that patients with DM often have zinc deficiency because of the increased
urinary excretion and the restricted certain food intake (259).
Meta–analyses showed that zinc supplementation has a favorable effect on glycemic control in
diabetic patients (260). Furthermore, zinc supplementation in diabetic mice and rats significantly
reduce diabetes–induced renal damage (261). In STZ–induced diabetic rats, zinc supplementation
can attenuate diabetes–induced renal pathological changes likely through prevention of
hyperglycemia–induced CTGF expression by zinc –induced cardiac metallothionein in renal tubular
cells (262). It was found also that supplementation of zinc improved the effectiveness of
hypoglycemic agents and may be beneficial in decreasing BSL, triglyceride, urinary albumin
excretion and inflammation in type 2 diabetic nephropathy patients (263). Recent study showed that
zinc has a protective effect against diabetic damage through stimulation of metallothionein

Learning Experience : A Multi Disciplinary Study Tour
Summary of learning experience:
Being involved in this multi–disciplinary study tour has provided me with the opportunity to have
multiple educational and confronting experiences that would otherwise be difficult to experience in
Australia through a textbook. Whilst being in Sri Lanka we were able to be involved, tested and
challenged at the various organizations, institutes, schools and hospitals. Visiting a wide variety of
health systems throughout Sri Lanka provided an insight to the development of the country and the
issues they face. The healthcare professionals were very specific and concise when explaining the
ongoing problems they encounter and how they plan to target them.
When I reflect on my learning experience from the study tour I now understand how to target a
specific audience and their needs rather than have a general outlook on what a person's health and
wellbeing should include. For example the reasons why Sri Lanka has overweight/obese individuals
differs to that of Australia and therefore the intervention strategies in Sri Lanka need to be different
to a western society.
I also have a better understanding on how politics and the community can conflict when prioritizing
the needs of the country. This is evident when rural hospitals are neglected with the medical staff
and supplies compared to the urban hospitals and also when job opportunities are stopped when
being educated in the public or private sectors.

Bay Leaves And Cinnamon Sticks Analysis
In Thelma B. Thompson's novel; "Bay Leaves and Cinnamon Sticks:Life Is," we will be looking at
how the Thompson uses Ethos, Pathos, and Logos. We will look at how the author uses Ethos,
Pathos, and Logos in relation to the main character, Jude. We will look at how the author uses Ethos,
Pathos, and Logos in response to the main character, Jude's self–identity, self oppression, and family
oppression. The problem faced is Millie coming to America to financially support her family in
Jamaica, and building a new house in Jamaica. As the reader, as you read this novel, you may ask
several questions such as "What is preventing Millie from supporting her family?" "Will Millie
finish building her new house in Jamaica?"
"Bay Leaves and Cinnamon Sticks:Life Is , is a novel that is rich in the Jamaican culture with a
protagonist author. The main character, who is Millie, a god–living, giving woman who refuses to
accept defeat. At times, Millie can be naive, but also capable of insight and wisdom.
As displayed in the novel, these positive traits work to attract others in the novel. Thompson
portrays the colorful lifestyle of the Caribbean and most stereotypes such as the lying, thieving man
as a husband, and having children who are selfish. In my opinion, there appears to not be any
historical context in connection within the novel.
The author's usage of Ethos in relationship to self–identity is as follows. In the beginning of the
novel, Thompson, who is the author, undercovers how

  • 5. Steam Distillation Of Cinnamaldehyde : The Pharmaceutical... Stanley Chan The Pennsylvania State University Chemistry 213.1 Synthetic #2 FFR Steam Distillation of Cinnamaldehyde Introduction Arguably, the industry that most utilizes advancements in organic chemistry is the pharmaceutical sector. It is critical to continuously develop new drugs to provide cures and symptom removers for the numerous diseases, ailments, and illnesses still yet to be remedied. Throughout the course of human history, natural products, evolved by biology, have been used to treat diseases and injuries. Morphine, a pain–killer was derived from a flower while olive oil has been used to improve wound healing efficiency1. There have even been paleoanthropological studies to suggest that Neanderthals, an early ancestor of humans, might have used some species of plants as medicine. This trend continued far into the 20th century, until the 1990s, where there was a switch in the pharmaceutical industry to research and develop drugs based on combinatorial chemistry1. However, failure to discover new compounds by organic synthesis, to yield drugs in medicinal areas such as immunosuppression, anti–infectives, and metabolic diseases, has prompted a resurgence in the age–old use of natural products2. Natural products today are extracted from plants and other biological material to be concentrated into pills and anecdotes, while some chemical extracts can even be used in the synthesis of more complex drug derivatives. One such natural product, long used for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ideas to vary the flavors in your cup As I said a few months ago, I am passionate about coffee , both when it comes to tasting it and knowing different varieties and experimenting with recipes and uses in the kitchen. So when a reader asked how I could make her own cinnamon coffee, I dedicated myself to investigate a little on the subject of giving a special flavor to this drink. And the truth is that there are many ways we can aromatize our coffee . My favorite way to enjoy coffee is a good cup of espresso made properly, with good freshly ground natural grains, quality water and respecting the right temperatures, without too much sweetening. But from time to time I like to try other options, and add special aromas depending on the day. My favorites are those that provide spices like cinnamon or nutmeg, and there are several ways we can integrate them into the coffee. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They can be added to the freshly made, very hot drink, letting them infuse and then removing them, or simply sprinkling some ground spice on top, although many people do not like to stain the coffee surface. Then another option is to aromatize the moment to sweeten the drink . Different sweeteners provide different shades, for example using cane syrup or maple syrup, which give a very interesting roasted touch. We can also use vanilla sugar, either homemade or commercial, which is usually used in confectionery. Instead of adding sugar to the cup, we can prepare a syrup to the taste with which to soften the bitterness of the coffee. The easiest way to make homemade syrup is to heat the same volume of water as sugar until it dissolves, so if we add a vanilla pod, cinnamon stick or another ingredient, once it has cooled down and we stick it A flavored sweetener. Outdoors playing in the park I could feel the crisp air chilling my body with each gust of wind. It was so cold that fall that my cheeks, nose, and ears turned bright red. For this brief moment still sitting silent in class I could feel chills up my spine just thinking of how cold it was. Although the classroom was quiet I could hear otherwise. I let my imagination take over and I heard all kinds of sounds. I could hear the front door squeaking as the wind blew it opened and closed. There was noise from the tree branches rattling. Often I could hear the hooves of a horse clattering against the pavement. The noisy neighbors leave blower sounded an annoying buzz making it hard to concentrate from time to time. The hypothesis is, vanilla and cinnamon will increase the rate of fermentation while baking soda will either decrease the rate of fermentation or stay the same. The bread goes through a process called alcoholic fermentation, in which pyruvic acid is converted into Carbon Dioxide and alcohol. As pyruvic acids go through alcoholic fermentation, the alcohol produced evaporates and the Carbon Dioxide is found in the little bubbles on the top of bread after it is baked. Alcoholic fermentation will be performed with yeast, which is what makes bread rise, in this experiment. The yeast ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Based on the data, cinnamon, vanilla, and the control group all had the same height of bubbles at 1 cm. This shows that the cinnamon and vanilla did not increase or decrease the rate of fermentation. This could be because the sugar in cinnamon and vanilla are not glucose or sucrose, which means that these two ingredients could not go through fermentation. Baking Soda spiked up at 1.75 cm because it releases Carbon Dioxide in the presence of acids (sugar). This increased the bubbles because the bubbles are made of Carbon Dioxide. Baking Soda ... • 76. Michael Ondaatje Poem The Cinnamon Peeler "A woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle" (Irina Dunn, 1970). This quote, while it may be frivolous, has an important message about how women are not objects to be owned by men and that having a boyfriend or a husband is not necessary. Irina Dunn wrote this on a bathroom wall in the 1970's, only 10 years into the beginning of the feminist revolution and 19 years before Ondaatje wrote his poem. Ondaatje's poem described in explicit detail his need to feel he owns women, and how he over sexualized them in order to belittle and rape them. In Michael Ondaatje's poem The Cinnamon Peeler he created an overly sexualized story displaying his sexist and misogynistic ideas about his need to possess women and how he raped them. Michael Ondaatje's poem was based on his need to feel he owns women. He used his distinct smell of cinnamon to further show he owned her. He wanted people to smell the cinnamon that he put on her body with his fingers as he said "You could never walk through markets without the profession of my fingers floating over you" (Ondaatje, 1989). In the poem, he used his career to his advantage because he could leave the scent of him all over his wife as a way of marking his territory like a dog. He is very one dimensional and sexist in that he thinks women are below men. Michael Ondaatje thought women were only as important as their husband. He thought his wife had no identity past being his wife, all he thinks is important is that "[she was ] known among strangers as the cinnamon peeler's wife" (Ondaatje, 1989). In today's social norms it is routine for men to be asked about work while women are asked about their husbands. It is unconscious and this type of sexist thinking has been programmed into males and females since the day they were born. This sentence immediately told the reader that he saw women as nothing other than their husband's property. He told his wife that all she will ever be know as is his wife. To him, she is no longer her own person but merely an object for him to possess. The wife in this poem had been conditioned to believe she is nothing without him. She reluctantly said "I am the cinnamon Peeler's wife. Smell me" (Ondaatje, 1989). In this sentence, the reader ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These themes have changed the way in which a reader interprets different works. Franz Kafka, born in Prague (1883–1924) and Bruno Schulz born in Drohobych (1892 – 1942) were both born into Jewish families of the Austro–Hungarian Empire (1867 – 1918). Kafka and Schulz both have unique methods in formulating a story. Kafka's work tends to be 'sober' whereby he writes about the most bizarre of things but in a methodical and straightforward manner. The reader immediately gets this impression from the onset, as Kafka dives straight into the action, rather than offering the reader a reasonable explanation. Schulz, on the other hand, is very artistic in the way he writes. Schulz was a writer as well as an artist, his artistry is shown through the use of his descriptive and almost phantasmagorical language. Schulz opens with "At the time of the shortest sleepy winter days edged on both sides of furry dusk mornings and evenings" (Schulz, 1). His use of sibilance "shortest sleepy" sets the tone of the story. The alliterative 'S' has created a rhythm which suggests a lethargic and composed atmosphere. With the additional effect of the in– between of 'Mornings and evenings', the setting is both alienated from the day, as well as the night. By doing this Schulz has introduced a twilight effect which adds a sense of mystery and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Isolation Of Volatile Oils From Cinnamon Carlos Restrepo Dr. Lanni The isolation of Volatile Oils from Cinnamon November 18, 2014 Isolation of Volatile Oil from Cinnamon Purpose: The purpose of this experiment was to isolate the components of cinnamon by using multiple techniques. The techniques involved in the experiment include: distillation, extraction, filtration, refractomery, gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, and the use of ChemDraw. Introduction: Cinnamon is the second most important spice that is sold throughout the world.1 The word Cinnamon originates from the word cassia. Cassia is the meaning of a plant that mainly contains leguminous genus. Cinnamon bark originates from the culivtated trees of Cinnamomum zeylanicum Nees, Lauraceae.2 Cinnamons usages include: flavoring for foods, medicinal purposes, agricultural needs, and pesticides. Cinnamon does not have a chemical structure, which is replaced for Cinnamaldehyde, which covers 97% of cinnamon. Figure 1 illustrates the chemical structure of Cinnamaldehyde. Terpenoids and isoprene's are located in the volatile oil of cinnamon, which play a major role in the color and odor of cinnamon. Cinnamon has several constituents that include: Cinnamaldehyde, cinnamic acid, coumarin, linalool, eugenol, and methyl cinnamate. These constituents were analyzed further by using technical processes. The isolation of cinnamon oil has evolved over sever years. The isolation originally began as a liquid–liquid extraction with methylene chloride ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 109. Analysis Of Cinnamon Peeler The Cinnamon Peeler Feminism has been around for centuries. Victim feminism leads to negative perceptions and the alienation of women. Women seem powerless and almost to the point of rejecting any power they do have. It portrays women as "just that", a woman. There to do the woman's job, and only that. By examining the poem "Cinnamon Peeler" by Michael Ondaatje, the reader gets a feel of victimized women and the inequality of women in a male dominated society. The Cinnamon Peeler himself is portrayed as a wealthy and prosperous man. Cinnamon is an exotic eastern spice, so this symbolizes social and economic status. He is portraying himself on a higher status than women. The sentence "If I were a cinnamon peeler I would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This ankle. With women being defined in terms of the males in their lives. For example, "The Cinnamon Peelers wife", "the Lime Burner's daughter" and "The Grass Cutters wife". Michael Ondaatje tries to convince the reader that women are just women. Not individual unique girls. He explains how they are labelled by their male husbands, brothers or fathers. He portrays women as non–competitive, cooperative, and peace–loving. He does not define them as fearless, powerful and independent. Another example is when Michael says "You touched your belly to my hands in the dry air and said I am the cinnamon Peeler's wife. Smell me." This is another example of labelling a woman. By touching her, he makes her, his. She is no longer an individual, she is only considered "the Cinnamon Peeler's wife". This is a sign of sexual domination. He makes it sound like he owns her. When Michael Ondaatje states "I could hardly glance at you before marriage never touch you –– your keen nosed mother, your rough brothers. I buried my hands in saffron, disguised ... The spices back then would be cherished as tradeable goods to other countries for a trade of currency, but soon the early cultures found out that the spices they were trading could be used to prevent food spoilage. As an antimicrobial, many spices could be helpful to get rid of the bacteria that can be found on food, or to preserve the food as well. Bacteria can spread from anywhere, through the air, from the ground, and even from a person's hands right when food is about to be eaten. There are many spices used to preserve food like onions, cinnamon, cloves, mustard, rosemary, sage, and black peppers. These kinds of spices are classified as either strong, medium, or weak because of their inhibitory effect that they have with bacteria. (Documents/Spices) Cinnamon is one of these spices with these strong inhibitory effects. Cinnamon refers to the dried bark of different types of beverages and chocolates it can be made into. Cinnamon would be used not only for food, but also used when making cosmetics. Cinnamon Oil Lab Report My hypothesis stated, "If I measure the amount of carbon dioxide produced when yeast reacts with water and tea tree essential oil, then it will produce the least amount of carbon dioxide." However, my hypothesis was proven to be false. My data shows that the trial with the Cinnamon oil produced the least amount of carbon dioxide, meaning that Cinnamon oil would be theoretically the most effective in fighting yeast/fungal growth. The order of the essential oils, in most effective to least effective, is as follows: Cinnamon oil, tea tree oil, and lavender oil. The weight of the amounts of carbon dioxide they produced is as follows, in the same order as they were listed: 0.3 grams, 0.6 grams, and 0.8 grams. I set a benchline when I tested the carbon dioxide production without the presence of an essential oil and found that the weight of the carbon dioxide was 1.1 grams. By doing this, I may be able to prove that the natural oils are just as, if not more effective than the chemical formula as far as treating a fungal growth efficiently. When a patient gets a fungal or yeast growth, they immediately want it gone. Testing the speed of the chemicals versus the natural remedies could help the patient choose a reliable treatment that will benefit their body the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 133. The King And Queen Of Monsters Your fingers flew across the keyboard of your laptop, so a crisp clicking noise echoed through the quiet café. You stopped for a second to skim your eyes over the text you just wrote. You were documenting your opinion about the recent meeting that the King and Queen of monsters had with the officials. It hadn't turned out well. The officials were stiff and stubborn. Refusing to even listen to their requests. You heaved a heavy sigh and picked up your coffee cup, turning it in your hands as you allowed your mind to wander. It had been just a few months since the monsters moved to the surface, and as suspected, some people weren't taking very well. Except for a group called the MRO. It stood for the Monster Rights Organization, it was a small group started by the Human Ambassador of the monsters (and the King and Queen) in hopes of getting more rights and supporters for the monsters. Not many people had joined, but you were one of the exceptions. Hoping to keep a low profile (but still be a help), you started an anonymous blog where you spread the word about monster rights and helped to encourage people to take a stand. You were brought out of your thoughts by the ringing of a bell. You turned to see two monsters walk into the café. You almost dropped your coffee. They were skeletons. Moving (alive?) skeletons. This was your first time actually seeing a monster in person. Normally you kept your distance and watched the events and meetings on TV. You tried to act casual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 137. Synthesis of Cinnamaldehyde Vidallon, Mark Louis P. Date Performed: February 20, 2012 CHEM44.1 2L Date Submitted: March 12, 2012 MIXED–ALDOL CONDENSATION Synthesis of Cinnamaldehyde I. Introduction Cinnamaldehyde, cinnamic aldehyde or 3–phenyl–2–propenal is the major constituent of cinnamon oil, extracted from several species of Cinnamomum (C. verum, C. burmanii, C. cassia), under the family Lauraceae, a group of evergreen trees. Cinnamon bark (particularly C. verum) yields 0.4– 0.8% oil, which contains 60–80% cinnamaldehyde, 4–5% sesquiterpenoids (α–humulene, β– caryophyllene, limonene and others), eugenol, cinnamyl acetate, eugenol acetate, cinnamyl alcohol, methyl eugenol, benzaldehyde, benzyl benzoate, cuminaldehyde, monoterpenes (linalool, pinene, ... • 141. Cinnamon Controversy Cinnamon is a common everyday spice obtained from the inner bark of several trees from the genus Cinnamomum that is used to flavor both sweet and savory foods. The strong taste and scent come from cinnamaldehyde. The essential oil of cinnamon bark is around 90% cinnamaldehyde (Wikipedia). Cinnamon trees are generally tropical trees but can be grown in all 50 states simply by bringing the trees indoors before temperatures drop below 40 degrees and also providing an abundant amount of light. Several methods of laboratory production exist, but cinnamaldehyde is most sparingly obtained from the steam distillation of the oil of cinnamon bark. The most obvious application for cinnamaldehyde is as flavoring in chewing gum, ice cream, candy, and beverages. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 149. Cinnamon And Diabetic Analysis Cinnamon is a well–known spice and it is the second most important spice used in the US and European markets. It has antimicrobial, antioxidant, antiulcerogenic, anti–diabetic, and analgesic effects (218,219). Cinnamon is beneficial for the health of patients with type 2 diabetes (220). The oils and extracts from Cinnamomum zeylanicum L. possess a powerful antioxidant activity due to the presence of phenolic and polyphenolic substances (221). Cinnamomum zeylanicum demonstrated numerous beneficial effects both in vitro and in vivo as a potential therapeutic agent for DM, and it also showed beneficial effects against diabetic neuropathy and DN (222). It reduces BSL. Furthermore, studies showed that polyphenols from cinnamon have in vitro ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, it is an essential component of numerous proteins involved in the defense system against OS. It was known that patients with DM often have zinc deficiency because of the increased urinary excretion and the restricted certain food intake (259). Meta–analyses showed that zinc supplementation has a favorable effect on glycemic control in diabetic patients (260). Furthermore, zinc supplementation in diabetic mice and rats significantly reduce diabetes–induced renal damage (261). In STZ–induced diabetic rats, zinc supplementation can attenuate diabetes–induced renal pathological changes likely through prevention of hyperglycemia–induced CTGF expression by zinc –induced cardiac metallothionein in renal tubular cells (262). It was found also that supplementation of zinc improved the effectiveness of hypoglycemic agents and may be beneficial in decreasing BSL, triglyceride, urinary albumin excretion and inflammation in type 2 diabetic nephropathy patients (263). Recent study showed that zinc has a protective effect against diabetic damage through stimulation of metallothionein synthesis, a potent antioxidant, and regulation of the OS ... • 153. Learning Experience : A Multi Disciplinary Study Tour Summary of learning experience: Being involved in this multi–disciplinary study tour has provided me with the opportunity to have multiple educational and confronting experiences that would otherwise be difficult to experience in Australia through a textbook. Whilst being in Sri Lanka we were able to be involved, tested and challenged at the various organizations, institutes, schools and hospitals. Visiting a wide variety of health systems throughout Sri Lanka provided an insight to the development of the country and the issues they face. The healthcare professionals were very specific and concise when explaining the ongoing problems they encounter and how they plan to target them. When I reflect on my learning experience from the study tour I now understand how to target a specific audience and their needs rather than have a general outlook on what a person's health and wellbeing should include. For example the reasons why Sri Lanka has overweight/obese individuals differs to that of Australia and therefore the intervention strategies in Sri Lanka need to be different to a western society. I also have a better understanding on how politics and the community can conflict when prioritizing the needs of the country. This is evident when rural hospitals are neglected with the medical staff and supplies compared to the urban hospitals and also when job opportunities are stopped when being educated in the public or private sectors. • 157. Bay Leaves And Cinnamon Sticks Analysis In Thelma B. Thompson's novel; "Bay Leaves and Cinnamon Sticks:Life Is," we will be looking at how the Thompson uses Ethos, Pathos, and Logos. We will look at how the author uses Ethos, Pathos, and Logos in relation to the main character, Jude. We will look at how the author uses Ethos, Pathos, and Logos in response to the main character, Jude's self–identity, self oppression, and family oppression. The problem faced is Millie coming to America to financially support her family in Jamaica, and building a new house in Jamaica. As the reader, as you read this novel, you may ask several questions such as "What is preventing Millie from supporting her family?" "Will Millie finish building her new house in Jamaica?" "Bay Leaves and Cinnamon Sticks:Life Is , is a novel that is rich in the Jamaican culture with a protagonist author. The main character, who is Millie, a god–living, giving woman who refuses to accept defeat. At times, Millie can be naive, but also capable of insight and wisdom. As displayed in the novel, these positive traits work to attract others in the novel. Thompson portrays the colorful lifestyle of the Caribbean and most stereotypes such as the lying, thieving man as a husband, and having children who are selfish. In my opinion, there appears to not be any historical context in connection within the novel. The author's usage of Ethos in relationship to self–identity is as follows. In the beginning of the novel, Thompson, who is the author, undercovers how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
