1. Q6. What have we learnt about technologies
from the process of constructing this
product?
In order to complete our task of creating a two minute
thriller film opening we had to learn and adapt to the
technologies that were available to us…
2. The Camera:
The first crucial step to creating our final piece was having a
video camera that would fit all of our requirements for
creating a good piece, first we wanted good sound and
picture quality which we found it to be very good. The next
requirement was that it was simple to use and light for hand
held filming. This camera fit all of our requirements and
whilst we found it simple, we still had to learn how to control
our angles and shots using this one camera.
3. The Tripod:
Finding the right tripod was crucial as we had to make
sure there were no continual errors throughout our
pieces, the tripod we used had the capability to hold the
camera at a really high point and a really low point as
well as in between. We were quickly able to learn how
to correctly use a tripod and figure out how to film our
shots without continual errors.
4. The Computer:
During the process of editing our piece we were able
to use an iMac, although we were able to make good
use of this it was proven as stressful as we were not
able to always access the things we needed.
However, with the programs and the right help and
attitude we were able to learn how to firstly use an
iMac and secondly the programs that it included.
5. Blogger:
During the planning process of creating our piece we
documented the planning on the website blogger where
we were able to create a blog that looked thrilling and
spooky to match the theme of our piece, documenting on
this website was made easy and didn’t take much
learning. This was the key to keeping our work together
and making our work look presentable.
6. iMovie:
When editing our thriller piece we used the program
‘iMovie’ which is an editing software designed for
simple editing, our group at times found this software
frustrating as we felt that we were sometimes unable to
edit our piece to the best of our ability with such a basic
software. It did not give us the options to make our piece
look fancy and instead we had to be extra creative just to
overcome these barriers.
7. Garage Band:
When it came to the process of finding the perfect sound for
our piece we turned to garage band which is a software where
you are able to create your own music and sound effects at a
click of a button. The software holds thousands of different
voices, sounds and beats which was both useful and
frustrating, with so many different types of sounds it became a
nuisance to use the software as we were never to really find
the ‘perfect’ sound. However, this was overcome eventually
and proved to be very useful.
8. Adobe Fireworks:
When creating a production logo for our piece we decided
to try something new and use Adobe Fireworks, this
software is in short Microsoft paint but for professionals.
Although a little tricky we were able to create a logo
using our own initiative on the software, we still found the
software a little tricky but we were able to learn enough to
create a decent logo.
9. YouTube:
This website may be the most important piece to
creating our thriller piece as we were able to do
extensive research on the thriller genre and use other
examples as inspiration for our own. Once we had
finished our piece we were able to upload to the site for
other students like us to do the same, we found this the
most rewarding and useful technology to use during our
process of creating our thriller piece.
