2. MUSIC VIDEO
‘This is What it Fells Like’, is a single taken from Banks’ debut album;
‘Goddess’.
The music video is shot entirely in black and white, and presents her
as the main focus to the audience. This is essential, as Banks is a
fairly new artist, and is only just beginning to build up a fan base.
3. LOCATIONS
The entire video is shot in different rooms of a large house, which fits
the conventions the R&B genre, and is reminiscent of many other
R&B songs. The single location adds consistency to the video, yet
it’s interesting to look at because of the different locations used
within it.
4. PROPS
There were a lot of house-hold objects used throughout the video,
and due to the black and white video, the song and the camera
angles at which they’re shot, they appear extremely artistic and
conceptual.
5. COSTUMES
Throughout the video, the audience only see one costume and the
only colour worn is black, as this fits the song, and looks good when
edited; as the video is in black and white. The black adds a slightly
sexual element to the video, without being too over-exposed or
obvious. The use of only one costume, adds continuity to the video,
and ensures the audience are more focused
on the singer, and the song.
6. EDITING
The entire video is in black and white, and there’s high contrast in the
light, adding mystery and intrigue to the video. It fits well with the
slow and emotive song. The video is edited in very much an ‘MTV’
style, creating unusual camera angles and cuts; which makes the
video more appealing to the age group that the song and style of
music are aimed at. There are various sections where the camera
blurs and focuses, which adds a cool effect to the video. There were
lots of close ups of the artist, used to present her to the audience, as
she’s a fairly new artist.
