How was your weekend running?
Another weekend, another twenty miler. i feel I've reached the purpose that, currently on marathon

Overcoming Barriers To Running
Barriers to engagement in a general sense have more to do with factors like age and gender (and to
some extent, race) than they do specifically with running. But running is not irrelevant when it
comes to the avoidance of physicians. As previously stated, running provides a whole host of health
benefits, but also induces hormonal response that literally makes runners feel good about
themselves. In the midst of that bliss, however, runners can develop bad habits or get an inflated
sense of how healthy they actually are, or worse, a stubbornness to treat the injuries they receive
directly from running. Kara Mayer Robinson, a runner and contributor to Runners World Magazine,
writes: "We runners are often hyperaware of our bodies, and when ... Show more content on

The practice of annual or biannual checkups is firmly rooted in the lifeblood of American medicine,
but also has practical application: if one goes through the trouble of selecting a primary care doctor,
what sense does it make to almost never see said doctor? Nevertheless, author Brian Palmer offers
insight into the uselessness of most annual checkups in the United States: "Annual checkups account
for more than 8 percent of doctor visits and cost the health care system $8 billion annually–more
than the total health care spending of several states. Each visit takes around 23 minutes, which
means doctors in the United States spend approximately 17 million hours each year running their
stethoscopes over 45 million completely healthy people." (Palmer 2013) Also, when preventive care
is offered at annual checkups (which is only about 20% of the time), the potential for overscreening
and overtesting exists, and this can cause patients to manufacture illness based on something only
minor or because of a false positive (Palmer 2013). In other words, the more one visits her doctor,
the more likely she is to feel ill even when she is perfectly

Informative Speech On Running
Running
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the benefits of running and the different
opportunities for running races.
Central Idea: Running is a positive way to better health, and there are many opportunities to run in
races.
Introduction
I. What do this racing bib, this medal, and this racing spike have in common?
II. They all have something to do with competitive running.
III. I am credible on this subject because I have been running races since sixth grade, and I have run
a multitude of various races since I began. Additionally, I completed supplementary research for this
speech.
IV. Today I would like to inform you about the benefits of running, along with the different formats
of running races, both in high school, and out of high school.
Let's start with the benefits of running.
Body
I. Running is a good form of aerobic exercise, and there are several benefits for both the body and
the mind.
A. Medical Daily explains six benefits of running every day, even if it as little as five minutes.
1. Better brain performance is one benefit.
I. Running increases blood flow to the brain including the hippocampus, the key area affected by
Alzheimer's disease.
2. Better mood is another benefit or running.

The Positive Effects of Participating in Running
In today's inactive society many people struggle with obesity. No one can put a price tag on life.
People today need to reevaluate where their priorities stand. The downward spiral for health issues
and obesity will continues to get worse, unless everyone takes action to their lives! Opportunities in
today's society show endless ways to get back into shape. Starting the activity of running will
change one's life for the better. The positive benefits of participating in running include experiencing
a fun activity, many health benefits, a low cost sport, and sponsoring charity organizations. When
starting to get into shape many people dread the thought of exercising. While getting in shape
anyone can experience fun and fulfillment. The task of getting in shape will change one's life for the
better. When running anyone can experience a good time. "Running does more than help improve
your physical and mental health" (Delorez and Hanc 16). Running allows anyone to develop into a
healthier person. When running one can run with a partner or a group of people. Physically running
with someone creates bonding, companionship and competition. Training with someone for a race
also provides and creates a positive mindset. A good fit for a running companion should consist of
the same positive thinking and the same goals and inspirations (Barrios 128). Socializing while
running can lead to many positive benefits to one's life. "Don't be surprised if you feel a bit more

Running Shoes Research Paper
Running is a great way to keep fit and can be a lot of fun, too. It is very important to make sure you
have the correct equipment before you start and one of the most important investments is a good
pair of running shoes. They can improve your running gait and prevent injuries. There are thousands
of different running shoes to choose from and most of the big sports manufacturers invest money
into the science and technology of running shoes.
Running Shoe Components
A running shoe comprises an outsole, a midsole, an upper, a heel counter and a post or footbridge.
Apart from that, running shoes vary enormously in design and color. A running shoe has to be
flexible and durable, control motion and absorb shock. It is best to buy your shoes from a specialist
running shop, or at least a sports shop, so you can get good advice from the sales staff. Try on shoes
in the afternoon, when your feet are slightly larger.
Each person has slightly different feet, so a great shoe for someone else might not necessarily be the
best one for you. The shape of your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Have a look at your wet footprint on the bathmat when you get out of the bath. If you see a full
imprint, this means you are flat footed. If there is an arch cutaway, your foot is normal. If there is a
very narrow band or no band between the front and back of the foot, you have high arches. Foot
type affects which sort of running shoes will be better for you. The normal foot tends to be the most
biomechanically efficient and you will need shoes with moderate motion control. If you have high
arches, avoid stability or motion control shoes, as these will limit foot mobility. If your feet are flat,
high stability or motion control shoes with firm midsoles will reduce the amount your foot naturally
rolls in and be more comfortable and better for you. Avoid highly curved or cushioned shoes if your
feet are flat, as they will restrict

Distance Running In College
In high school, distance running has improved not only my physical strength but also my mental
toughness, and it has benefited various aspects of my life. By running seven miles per day
consistently, I learned to persevere regardless of the difficulties and setbacks, and perseverance also
enabled me to accomplish boring and complicated tasks such as spending hours finding and fixing
one single unnoticeable bug in my program. Moreover, I became accustomed to challenging myself
after I pushed my limits by ordering my legs to move in great pain during every race; accordingly, I
would proactively seek academic challenges by taking courses at which I am relatively weak. As for
the longest run, my life, I will keep running forward with the same spirit, never stopping self–
improvement. Therefore, I will keep distance running in college.

Negative Effects Of Running Marathons
For most, running 26.2 miles just for fun is not appealing; however, others do want to run marathons
for the excitement of a race or to prove to themselves that they can do it. For many reasons, runners
are on board to hit the pavement, whether it is for the challenge or for the numerous health benefits
that come along with it, including weight loss and fitness. Because of the positive effects of running,
the negative aspects of running long distances are sometimes overlooked. Before deciding to just get
up one day and start training for a marathon, know that running this lengthy race has both desirable
and undesirable physical consequences.
Often, running is a route to weight loss and, thus, motivates individuals to get out and exercise, to
burn calories. The activity does burn calories. For example, running at a 6–mph pace burns 372
calories in 30 minutes for a 155–pound person, according to Andrea Cespedes a freelance wellness
expert. However, since calories are needed for performance during long runs, one must increase
calorie intake to fuel the run, especially if the runner's mileage is lengthy (Cespedes). In addition,
some uneducated runners believe that the exercise can be an excuse to eat unhealthy food, saying
that their running makes up for what they eat. This, however, is a myth because often the calories
are empty and do not promote general health. "You ran 10 miles, therefore you deserve the fries,
shake and burger. Calories still count and running doesn't

Physics Of Running Research Paper
Running is a natural form of human mobility. Running is an imperative aspect for most sports and is
also a simple way that requires little to get exercise anywhere. Although, many people have adapted
to improper forms of running over time, numerous physical injuries are the results. With the help of
understanding the physics behind running, people can learn to run in such a way that expends less
energy from the body. Keeping physics in mind will allow the human body to experience many
health and psychological benefits and develop the thought of effortless running. Running is a sport
that requires a knowledge of physics and the different health and psychological benefits. Keeping

Running efficiently provides many positive psychological benefits, for example, it helps fight
depression. Depression is an illness that involves the body, mood, and thoughts and that affects the
way a person eats, sleeps, feels about himself or herself, and thinks about things (Depression, n.d.).
Although, running can be a cure for this illness. Achieving a physical goal, such as a 10k, is good
for treating depression because generally people with depression have poor self–images and
completing a goal such as a 10k would boost one's confidence and suddenly have a positive
reflection towards themselves. Beyond the goal–oriented therapeutic benefit, endorphins can really
help pick up one's mood. . Endorphins, the "feel–good" hormones of the body, have a lot of things
going for them. These naturally occurring opiates can make a person feel better physically by
helping to suppress pain. They also slow the aging process, gives stress relief and sends the immune
system into overdrive and when running takes place, a flood of endorphins are released. Another
positive aspect that is an outcome from running is the production of the famed "Runner's High."
Runner's high is a feeling of euphoria that is experienced by some individuals engaged in strenuous
running and that is held to be associated with a release of endorphins by the brain. The high

People discover that an active lifestyle creates a love of life (Delorez and Hanc 16). In every
community people can find a running club. "Many people run because they like to socialize and be
part of a running community" (Luff, "Benefits of Running"). A scheduled running time within the
club can help create a routine structure. "Clubs tend to hold organized runs once or twice during the
week, but smaller groups often splinter off to meet at other times as well" (Barrios 129). Joining a
running club allows one to achieve a kinship. Runners vary in their abilities, age and experience.
With a variety of athletes in a club, friendship unites the runners (Barrios 129). Association with

You'll never know until you try. This is definitely right when it comes to running; and it is how I
found my love for running. Though it can be a sport of endurance or speed, running can release
stress and really test your body's limits. It all started at SLV on a cool autumn afternoon. My older
brother Silas's cross–country meet was about to start. All of my family was there. My dad(who looks
like a viking and is very tall), my mom(she is very tall and is like my best friend), my younger
brother Ezra(cutest 7 year old ever, and loves to look at/find bugs), my younger sister Ruby(same
height as me even though only in 4th grade at the time), my grandma (bakes over 2000 cookies
every Christmas and always smells like fresh linen), my grandpa(watches golf and does 5 mile hikes
every week), and lastly, me. I have really curly hair and I am tall for my age.The starter shot the gun

Persuasive Essay About Running
Running is a physically demanding sport. If you are looking for a way to get in shape, then you
should consider running. Running uses every muscle in your body because you are engaging every
aspect of yourself in the activity. Also, running is a great way to incorporate more cardio into your
workout. Running is not just about getting in shape and staying shape; but running involves many
fun activities and sports.
Some sports that involve running are track and cross country. If you are a competitive individual,
then you should consider track or cross country. If you are a more laid back individual, then you can
take into consideration mud runs or glow/color runs. Those events are always fun, and you get dirty
while participating in the event. Running is a good way to get in shape and have fun doing so, but
before you begin running, you need to know the basics of how to begin.
The first step to begin running is to start with runs/walks. You will start by adding one minute of
running for every four minutes of walking. Gradually increase your running time, so that eventually
you will be running for twice the amount of time that you spend walking. Also, interval running is a
good "beginners" workout. You start by jogging for one minute, then walking for one minute, then
you should increase the time by one minute each time until you are running for five minutes and
walking for five minutes. The technique you choose should be most comfortable to you.
However, you need to be

Ultra Running Essay
Running is the purest form of exercise. Its simplicity requires minimal equipment or experience, as
the running motion is an innate movement for the human body. More specifically ultra running is
beyond the marathon distance of 26.2 miles and incorporates distances of 50, 100, and 200–mile
races. While it takes any novice athlete to take part in the simple act of running a few advanced
individuals turn running into an art form and expand their expertise to endurance running as seen in
ultra marathon competitions. Running is currently applicable to society as the proportion of obese to
healthy individuals continues to increase. As a result of the obesity epidemic – health and wellness
has hit major media headlines – running in general has transformed into the most popular mode of
exercise. The increasing popularity in running has brought more attention to the specific world of
ultra running and researchers, health practitioners, and the media have become critics of the how
running extreme distances can be detrimental to health. While many argue that ultra running will
pose greater health risks for the competing individuals, historically distance running has been a
crucial component of human survival and evolution further supporting the development of
biomechanical and physiological health benefits. Despite the skepticism, ultra running provides
holistic health benefits and does not subject the competing individual to increased health
complications or risk of injury.

Because when it comes down to the end of a tough run/race/speed workout, it is the runner that did
all the work to finish it. Stress is always fraught in life. Having a stress free life is impossible, but
having a stress free day is possible through running. The calming noises of ambient sounds of nature
and the "pitter patter" of one's footsteps seem to have a calming effect. I have had days where my
stress has driven me over the edge, and there is only one way I can get rid of it, running. Anger and
stress fuel me as I race out the door and release it throughout the next hour. My heart pumps rapidly
as I take off down the road. My lungs find a rhythm of breathing and I can feel the anger slowly
leaving my body like a pulse from each slap of a foot. According to howtobefit.com, "After 20
minutes of exercise the brain starts releasing epinephrine and endorphins into the system, which
lower tension and help stress stabilization." So for only twenty minutes a day one can begin to
relieve stress from something that can usually cause stress. Many see the foible of running, for they

There are many things that people can learn from this sport. Patience is one of those essentials. One
thing runners will quickly realize is that times do not get faster overnight. People have to put in a lot
of work and effort to drop seconds on of their times. It strengthens one's endurance levels since they
are not handed being a good athlete. Runners have to train hard and log many miles into their shoes
to get faster. Good runners also create a great work ethic. Even when they are in immense pain, they
keep going. When someone is a runner, he or she has to zone out and forget the pain. This is good
because runners are known to be hard–workers at their occupations. Persistence and work ethic go

The Basics Of Running And Its Benefits
Research Paper Topic: Running
Learning about the basics of running and its benefits could positively impact your life. Running is a
fairly common task that many of us learn at a young age. We practice running after we master
walking as babies or toddlers, chase or get chased by our siblings or enjoy it on the school
playground during recess. Then we progress to P.E. class, track and field days or cross country
meets. Whether running is a sport we pursue in school or not, it can be a learned fact or hobby that
anyone can perform! There are many known benefits of running, and as stated, anyone at any age
can learn and enjoy. It has been named the world's most accessible sport. Running dates back
extremely far in history as related to hunting and other religious festivals. While it might look very
different in terms of fashions, trends and GPS watches, I believe the form of running probably hasn't
changed. To begin running, you simply need to place one foot in front of the other and go! It is
encouraged to exercise proper form to maximize your experience and to gain the full affect. You
should focus on holding your head up high and looking forward. Shoulders will be relaxed, torso
stretched and tall, which will result in the hips being in alignment. Your arms will be bent and
relaxed while your ankles project you forward. There are certain styles of foot strikes that runners

The Physics of Running
Running uses many different laws of physics. Some specific laws or principles are Law of
Pendulum; Newton's First, Second, and Third Laws; velocity; acceleration; and friction. In our
project, we will focus specifically on Newton's three laws, the Law of Pendulum, and velocity.
Running is defined by the Merriam–Webster Dictionary as "to go faster than a walk; specifically : to
go steadily by springing steps so that both feet leave the ground for an instant in each step." This
project will explain how the aforementioned laws pertain to the physics of running. Those involved
in running sports, for example track and long distance runners, could benefit greatly from the study

Velocity is the rate of change of an object's position and is a function of time. You can find the speed
that someone goes by knowing how far they went and how long it took them to get there. The
equation used to find velocity is v=d/t; v is velocity, d is distance traveled, and t is time. Someone
who runs the 3200m in 12 minutes runs at an average speed of 266.67 m/min. For a runner who
wants to improve their time in a race, they need to cover more distance per minute. To achieve
running an 11 minute 30 second 3200m a person would run at an average pace of 278.26m/min.
This is found by using the same equation v=d/t. This is used to find average velocity for the race.
Many runners do not keep the same speed in a race, especially in a 3200m race. At the end of a race
a runner will speed up to as fast as they

During my cool down I went down this path that was off the trail. In the moment, I wasn't really

Running Argumentative Analysis
When people talk about exercise, there is one main workout that most people have done in their life.
That exercise is running. For some, running isn't just a way to go out and get healthy, running can be
a way for people to escape the stressful lives they live in and go out and explore the world on the
endless trail running has to offer. While most people think this, some have a different opinion on the
topic. Some feel as though running is not healthy for you at all in the long run, and that it can cause
some serious health effects to your body in the long run. However, after getting the facts from both
sides of the argument, anyone will agree that running will benefit your health in the long run
physically and mentally. For those who enjoy running, they say that there is a lot of evidence to
support the fact that running not only affects you physically, but it helps you ... Show more content

What's more, scientists have shown that running also vastly improves the quality of your emotional
and mental life, and even helps you live longer" (Van Allen). Running not only keeps you in shape
but it can keep you from getting serious health problems later in life. Most importantly, it can better
improve the chance of you living longer in life. For many this would be a situation where you
wouldn't even have to think twice about whether or not to start running long distances every day for
the rest of your life. Some people have one goal in life, and that is to live as long as possible
however that may be. Of course there will never be a for sure way to protect you from disease or
anything else that can kill you, but why not try something fun that is good. At the same time it will

Meta Description: You have always heard that there are many benefits of long distance running.
Know why it is one of the best things you can do with your body in this blog. Image Source
Running has always been considered one of the best exercises in the world. Do you know why?
Most obvious answers to the question will be– it helps you to lost weight, it keeps you healthy, it
burns calories and cuts body fat, it makes you active. While they are all teue, running is not just
about these. There is so much more to it. There are numerous benefits of long distance running that
most people are not aware of.

But once you know about the benefits of long–distance running, you'll be excited to get your feet on
the running track.
1. Burns Calories
Okay, this one is an obvious but major benefit of long distance running. Nothing else can burn your
calories like a long run can. Do you know that running burns calories faster than any other physical
activity or exercise in the world. It turns your body into a fat burning machine. You can burn more
than 500 calories in a single 30– minute run. Running for long distances helps in improving after–
burn capabilities of your body, which means that your body is capable of burning fat even after
running.
Apart from burning some serious calories, running also improves your metabolism, which means
that your body can now process more calories efficiently. Thus, it prevents calories from becoming
body fat in the first place.
2. Better Sleep
One of the major advantages of long distance running is that it improves the overall quality of your
sleep. It also positively affects your sleeping patterns. Regular long distance runners sleep faster and
deeper for longer intervals of time without waking up. It is also known that individuals who run long
distances are less likely to develop insomnia or other sleep related

Running has always been a way of life for the people throughout the world. Whether it be for
hunting, war, or even for a sport; running is what makes us human and what keeps the human race
healthy. In different cultures running is valued for many reasons, such as: religion, sport, and it's
even still used for hunting today. However, each of those different cultures share one thing, they all

Running Economy
Running economy is defined as the energy demand for a given velocity of submaximal running, and
is determined by measuring the steady–state consumption of oxygen and the respiratory exchange
ration. Running economy is like fuel in a vehicle. How much fuel does it take to operate a car or a
person's body. Other factor contributed to how much energy is required to fuel a runner, including
metabolic adaption, the energy storing ability of muscles and how well a runner's body utilizes
energy. Although, I found some of the terms in the article to understand, I found the study to indicate
there was a connection between running economy and various factors, such as kinematic variables.

Physics Of Running
The Physics Of Running
Mokhtar Miguil 10A
Running is a sport that is very much connected to physics. Scientists have done many significant
research in the past on the physics of running, and I will try to discuss some of the main aspects of it
here.
There are are many forces acting upon a runner when he/she is pushing off the ground with one foot.
The force Fx is the horizontal force due to the contact between the runner's foot and the ground, and
the force Fy is the vertical force due to the contact between the runner's foot and the ground. The
force Fg is the force due to gravity which pulls down on the runner. This force acts through the
center of mass of the runner, represented by the purple dot. During a run the force Fy is greater than
Fg in order to lift the runner off the ground as he runs.
An Olympic sprinter can push off the ground with a total peak force of more than 1000 pounds (with
a time averaged Fx equal to about 200 pounds, which is less than the peak Fx). In contrast, the
average person can apply 500–600 pounds of total peak force. Reference:

Biomechanical Running Technique
Just like posture and range of motion in the arms, stride length and angle is important for a runner,
specifically running economy which is the energy it takes to achieve a certain velocity. Santos
Concejero and others (2014) conducted a study that concluded "athletes may find stride angle useful
for improving RE." I compared the stride length of an expert to a novice, following videos I had
watched online as well as watching experienced and unexperienced runners and tried to have my
participant mimic the form. The story performed by Santos Concejero also stated that
"biomechanical running technique characterized by high stride angles and a midfoot/forefoot strike
pattern is advantageous for a better RE" (Santos–Concejero et al., 2014). In

Running Club In sixth grade I quit the school band in the middle of my third year to join Running
Club. The goal of Running Club was to run a 5k after weeks of practice and I accepted the
challenge. Throughout the duration of training, I would find the long runs consistently demanding
and a test to my motivation to persevere in the club. One of the coaches, Miss. Ames, was my
teacher from the previous year and she ran with me during practice. She constantly encouraged me
to push myself a little more every run and to keep practicing. I was frustrated with my performance,
but Miss. Ames continued to encourage me. Nevertheless, preparing for that 5k was an eye–opening
and an overall amazing experience. I turned in my form for Running Club by the end of the week
and was ready to start running. When training began, we ran a few laps around the school and I
noticed as the runs came to be longer, I would become tired sooner. Miss. Ames noticed and ran
alongside me. During the runs, we would discuss other topics which would distract me from
thinking about my performance in the run. Later on, the coaches would time the runners to see our
performance. Being timed increased my irritation with my performance; however, Miss. Ames

I run. Out of emotion, almost every one you can think of. Love, anger, joy, frustration, excitement,

Modern day marathon is participated by runners in thousands, that came from all walks of life,

Medical Aspects of Running and Running–related Injuries
"Runners are the 'healthiest sick people in the world'", according to ultrarunner Jeff Robbins. In an
email that I received from him he added, "One of the problems with the ultras is that you are always
stressing things to the limits. Therefore problems tend to crop up. Half the fun in this sport is
learning to deal with adversity no matter how it comes." Injury is a runner's most dreaded and
aggravating obstacle. Sometimes no matter how much the mind wills it, the body cannot go on
without causing itself permanent damage. Pushing beyond these limitations will eventually cause
the body to rebel and self–destruct. There are preventative measures that can be taken to stop these

Jason Hodde, Jeff Robbins, Norm Yarger, and Karl King each personally emailed me with insightful
information on running–related injuries. The listserve is such a great interactive source of
information. Who better to learn from but the runners themselves? They are the ones who have to
cope with the injuries. Any amount of personal experience through trial and error is better advice
than book knowledge. This is the reason why so many runners advise that running–related injuries
should be taken to a doctor who has running experience because he will be more inclined to look to
rectify the cause of the injury instead of resorting to surgery.
The best way to prevent injuries from occurring is to take the appropriate precautionary actions. The
first major rule is: don't strain. The majority of running injuries occur from overtraining. It is
important for a runner to incorporate hard days and easy days into his/her exercise routine. You need
to give your body time to rest so that it can repair itself. Fatigue accumulates and if you don't ease
up occasionally, you won't improve. Being overtired will eventually lead to injury because your
body needs a chance to recover and strengthen itself. Also, avoid doing too much too soon. Dr.
Stephen Pribut suggests that "Mileage should usually only be increased approximately ten percent
per week. Every third week, you should drop back a small amount. For most runners one or two
days a week, at least, should be devoted to rest or

Why Marathon Running Is Good for Your Health
If you want a full–body workout, running is one of the simplest and easiest ways to get yourself fit.

clothes and running shoes.
Running is a well–loved workout of several people. In fact, in the United States alone, there are
about 65 million people who went running or jogging in 2016. Running is generally good for your
body since it does not only help you to lose weight and tone your muscles, but it also improves your
mental and emotional health.
However, do the same benefits apply when you run and participate in a full marathon? A full

When you run, your body temperature increases which help inhibit the growth of bacteria in your
body. Running also hastens the circulation of the body's protective cells throughout the body
enabling your immune system to fend off viruses and bacteria.
Boosts your confidence and relieves stress. If you finished running longer miles and crossed the
finish line, it gives you a sense of achievement. Successfully achieving your goals boosts your
confidence and it inspires you to do more. Your body also releases a chemical called endorphin
when you exercise. Endorphins are your body's "feel–good" chemicals hence relieving you of stress.
Helps build your endurance and strength. Running marathons requires a lot of preparation and
training. Compared to those who are only training for running short miles, long distance runners
undergo a more rigorous running program that enables them to build their endurance and strengthen
their muscles to last a 26–mile run.
Lets you meet new friends. Running seems to be a solo activity since you only depend on yourself
when reaching for the finish line. However, running marathons also lets you connect with other
people and be more social. There are several marathon clubs and organizations that you can join if

in Hobson 2007). Dr. Siegel, a marathon runner himself, has studied two phenomena that occurred
in marathons that have killed a number of people. Dr. Siegel conducted tests on 60 marathoners,
before and after the race. 40 percent of the runners showed evidence of heart damage, although it is
important to note that the damage was reversed within days. Another interesting find was that out of
the 40 percent who showed damage, the runners with the least amount of training showed the most
damage (Hobson 2007). This highlights the importance of proper conditioning during the training
phase of the marathon.
Although the risk of a heart attack is real, the percentage of fatalities is very low. Data compiled
from the Race Associated Cardiac Arrest Event Registry (RACER), show that 1 out of 259,000
participants fell victim to sudden death during a marathon. As outlined in the 2012 RACER study,
42 runners out of the 11 million registered in the database, died as a result of a heart attack. (qtd. in
Krumholz 2012). Dr. Krumholz further points out that many of the runners in the RACER study
group had a preexisting cardiac abnormality that could have been detected before the event. Dr.
Krumholz suggests that participants in these events have a cardiac examination by a physician
(2012). Minimizing the risk, or even eliminating it, can be as simple as an initial doctor's checkup
and regular annual visits. This is the reason why all marathon events encourage runners to be

Physics Of Running Essay
Running is quite a brutal sport when it involves distance and proficiency. Force and distance
influences how runners run their race in track. They use speed, strength, flexibility and stability.
However, when a runner is running hard, the work creates more and more heat. The best way to
release the heat is through sweating. With the elements of energy and temperature, the force created
doesn't die and is regenerated through the race. By adding coolness in temperature and energy,
muscles don't get locked. The last thing anyone wants is an overworked muscle. With an
overworked muscle, you don't beat your time.
A muscle can work up to around 25 hertz of energy just from generated heat. The heat is based on
the size of who is competing and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The physics is located in his work, mass, distance, and speed. His whole body is dependent on the
way he resists the air drag and releases the heat. When he comes out of the blocks, he creates a force
of 817 newton at a horizontal degree. The speed he keeps throughout the race is about 30 miles per
hour. Unlike the runners, he is able to let go of the heat with his resilient suit. Right out of the block,
his work is above two thousand and six hundred watts. The force that he creates right out of the
starting block is 2600 watts. This then impacts how much energy he uses in his 100–meter sprint.
With this much force in speed, he creates 2 watts per hour and 11.6 HP of power, and earns the gold
medal.
Most runners in a sport run with a back like a pencil, while Bolt's height advances his air drag. His
stamina, physique and many other factors help his torso push against the air drag. The force and
work causes Usan bolt to win his races. When someone increases the speed, it is the shedding of
heat that impacts the race. The shedding of heat is the renewed energy that keeps a leveled speed in
the specified distance. Depending on the heat, one can always go the distance with their best shape
and speed. The real message is this, all runners

Another weekend, another twenty miler. i feel I've reached the purpose that, currently on marathon range six, I recognise as peak 'why the hell do I try this to myself' moment. Not shut enough to the race (just beneath seven weeks) to feel an effort of vasoconstrictive, and still a minimum of some of 20–plus runs to travel. Still, a minimum of there was consolation within the type of dish once yesterday's hot and windy effort – and athletics to observe on the receiver. • 3. Overcoming Barriers To Running Barriers to engagement in a general sense have more to do with factors like age and gender (and to some extent, race) than they do specifically with running. But running is not irrelevant when it comes to the avoidance of physicians. As previously stated, running provides a whole host of health benefits, but also induces hormonal response that literally makes runners feel good about themselves. In the midst of that bliss, however, runners can develop bad habits or get an inflated sense of how healthy they actually are, or worse, a stubbornness to treat the injuries they receive directly from running. Kara Mayer Robinson, a runner and contributor to Runners World Magazine, writes: "We runners are often hyperaware of our bodies, and when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The practice of annual or biannual checkups is firmly rooted in the lifeblood of American medicine, but also has practical application: if one goes through the trouble of selecting a primary care doctor, what sense does it make to almost never see said doctor? Nevertheless, author Brian Palmer offers insight into the uselessness of most annual checkups in the United States: "Annual checkups account for more than 8 percent of doctor visits and cost the health care system $8 billion annually–more than the total health care spending of several states. Each visit takes around 23 minutes, which means doctors in the United States spend approximately 17 million hours each year running their stethoscopes over 45 million completely healthy people." (Palmer 2013) Also, when preventive care is offered at annual checkups (which is only about 20% of the time), the potential for overscreening and overtesting exists, and this can cause patients to manufacture illness based on something only minor or because of a false positive (Palmer 2013). In other words, the more one visits her doctor, the more likely she is to feel ill even when she is perfectly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Running Shoes Research Paper Running is a great way to keep fit and can be a lot of fun, too. It is very important to make sure you have the correct equipment before you start and one of the most important investments is a good pair of running shoes. They can improve your running gait and prevent injuries. There are thousands of different running shoes to choose from and most of the big sports manufacturers invest money into the science and technology of running shoes. Running Shoe Components A running shoe comprises an outsole, a midsole, an upper, a heel counter and a post or footbridge. Apart from that, running shoes vary enormously in design and color. A running shoe has to be flexible and durable, control motion and absorb shock. It is best to buy your shoes from a specialist running shop, or at least a sports shop, so you can get good advice from the sales staff. Try on shoes in the afternoon, when your feet are slightly larger. Each person has slightly different feet, so a great shoe for someone else might not necessarily be the best one for you. The shape of your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Have a look at your wet footprint on the bathmat when you get out of the bath. If you see a full imprint, this means you are flat footed. If there is an arch cutaway, your foot is normal. If there is a very narrow band or no band between the front and back of the foot, you have high arches. Foot type affects which sort of running shoes will be better for you. The normal foot tends to be the most biomechanically efficient and you will need shoes with moderate motion control. If you have high arches, avoid stability or motion control shoes, as these will limit foot mobility. If your feet are flat, high stability or motion control shoes with firm midsoles will reduce the amount your foot naturally rolls in and be more comfortable and better for you. Avoid highly curved or cushioned shoes if your feet are flat, as they will restrict ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Distance Running In College In high school, distance running has improved not only my physical strength but also my mental toughness, and it has benefited various aspects of my life. By running seven miles per day consistently, I learned to persevere regardless of the difficulties and setbacks, and perseverance also enabled me to accomplish boring and complicated tasks such as spending hours finding and fixing one single unnoticeable bug in my program. Moreover, I became accustomed to challenging myself after I pushed my limits by ordering my legs to move in great pain during every race; accordingly, I would proactively seek academic challenges by taking courses at which I am relatively weak. As for the longest run, my life, I will keep running forward with the same spirit, never stopping self– improvement. Therefore, I will keep distance running in college. ... • 13. Negative Effects Of Running Marathons For most, running 26.2 miles just for fun is not appealing; however, others do want to run marathons for the excitement of a race or to prove to themselves that they can do it. For many reasons, runners are on board to hit the pavement, whether it is for the challenge or for the numerous health benefits that come along with it, including weight loss and fitness. Because of the positive effects of running, the negative aspects of running long distances are sometimes overlooked. Before deciding to just get up one day and start training for a marathon, know that running this lengthy race has both desirable and undesirable physical consequences. Often, running is a route to weight loss and, thus, motivates individuals to get out and exercise, to burn calories. The activity does burn calories. For example, running at a 6–mph pace burns 372 calories in 30 minutes for a 155–pound person, according to Andrea Cespedes a freelance wellness expert. However, since calories are needed for performance during long runs, one must increase calorie intake to fuel the run, especially if the runner's mileage is lengthy (Cespedes). In addition, some uneducated runners believe that the exercise can be an excuse to eat unhealthy food, saying that their running makes up for what they eat. This, however, is a myth because often the calories are empty and do not promote general health. "You ran 10 miles, therefore you deserve the fries, shake and burger. Calories still count and running doesn't ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Depression is an illness that involves the body, mood, and thoughts and that affects the way a person eats, sleeps, feels about himself or herself, and thinks about things (Depression, n.d.). Although, running can be a cure for this illness. Achieving a physical goal, such as a 10k, is good for treating depression because generally people with depression have poor self–images and completing a goal such as a 10k would boost one's confidence and suddenly have a positive reflection towards themselves. Beyond the goal–oriented therapeutic benefit, endorphins can really help pick up one's mood. . Endorphins, the "feel–good" hormones of the body, have a lot of things going for them. These naturally occurring opiates can make a person feel better physically by helping to suppress pain. They also slow the aging process, gives stress relief and sends the immune system into overdrive and when running takes place, a flood of endorphins are released. Another positive aspect that is an outcome from running is the production of the famed "Runner's High." Runner's high is a feeling of euphoria that is experienced by some individuals engaged in strenuous running and that is held to be associated with a release of endorphins by the brain. The high ... • 19. Descriptive Essay About Running You'll never know until you try. This is definitely right when it comes to running; and it is how I found my love for running. Though it can be a sport of endurance or speed, running can release stress and really test your body's limits. It all started at SLV on a cool autumn afternoon. My older brother Silas's cross–country meet was about to start. All of my family was there. My dad(who looks like a viking and is very tall), my mom(she is very tall and is like my best friend), my younger brother Ezra(cutest 7 year old ever, and loves to look at/find bugs), my younger sister Ruby(same height as me even though only in 4th grade at the time), my grandma (bakes over 2000 cookies every Christmas and always smells like fresh linen), my grandpa(watches golf and does 5 mile hikes every week), and lastly, me. I have really curly hair and I am tall for my age.The starter shot the gun and the runners were off! They did the course and came back onto the track for a great finish. I just knew,"That's what The time for middle school had finally come. More directly, the time for cross– country had arrived. I was so excited to start practicing that I picked out my favorite shorts and shirt the night before for the occasion. But little did I know that cross–country was not just about going fast and kicking butt, but it is about going just a bit faster, a bit farther, and a bit stronger than when you went in. • 21. Persuasive Essay About Running Running is a physically demanding sport. If you are looking for a way to get in shape, then you should consider running. Running uses every muscle in your body because you are engaging every aspect of yourself in the activity. Also, running is a great way to incorporate more cardio into your workout. Running is not just about getting in shape and staying shape; but running involves many fun activities and sports. Some sports that involve running are track and cross country. If you are a competitive individual, then you should consider track or cross country. If you are a more laid back individual, then you can take into consideration mud runs or glow/color runs. Those events are always fun, and you get dirty while participating in the event. Running is a good way to get in shape and have fun doing so, but before you begin running, you need to know the basics of how to begin. The first step to begin running is to start with runs/walks. You will start by adding one minute of running for every four minutes of walking. Gradually increase your running time, so that eventually you will be running for twice the amount of time that you spend walking. Also, interval running is a good "beginners" workout. You start by jogging for one minute, then walking for one minute, then you should increase the time by one minute each time until you are running for five minutes and walking for five minutes. The technique you choose should be most comfortable to you. However, you need to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Ultra Running Essay Running is the purest form of exercise. Its simplicity requires minimal equipment or experience, as the running motion is an innate movement for the human body. More specifically ultra running is beyond the marathon distance of 26.2 miles and incorporates distances of 50, 100, and 200–mile races. While it takes any novice athlete to take part in the simple act of running a few advanced individuals turn running into an art form and expand their expertise to endurance running as seen in ultra marathon competitions. Running is currently applicable to society as the proportion of obese to healthy individuals continues to increase. As a result of the obesity epidemic – health and wellness has hit major media headlines – running in general has transformed into the most popular mode of exercise. The increasing popularity in running has brought more attention to the specific world of ultra running and researchers, health practitioners, and the media have become critics of the how running extreme distances can be detrimental to health. While many argue that ultra running will pose greater health risks for the competing individuals, historically distance running has been a crucial component of human survival and evolution further supporting the development of biomechanical and physiological health benefits. Despite the skepticism, ultra running provides holistic health benefits and does not subject the competing individual to increased health complications or risk of injury. ... But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self–discipline, and effort." –Jesse Owens Everyone is good at something in life. For me, running is something that I truly excel at. Running allows me to focus on my dreams and goals that stand in front of me. I can never look back at what is behind me, because my feet are taking me to a moving paradise where nothing else matters. Whenever I run, all of the negativity in my life disappears in an instant. Stressors that swirl like fog in my mind cease to exist. The anxiety that once made my limbs vigorously vibrate is now blown away by a bullet. Eventually, as I grew older, I started running with my dad on the Allegheny Riverfront Trail. My friends and family would always tell me how phenomenal of a runner I was, but I never believed it until I decided to run my first 5k race. In the week leading up to it, I trained in the scorching sun, regardless how blistering the heat was. At last, today was the race. I woke up with enthusiasm rippling through my legs like water, and excitement swirled like cotton candy in my mind. Today was the day I would prove to myself how much courage and strength truly seeps in my skin. I was so determined to do the best I possibly could during this race. I knew that my spirited attitude towards finishing this race would bring me even closer to the finish line. When I lined up with the hundreds of other runners, my adrenaline started to kick in, making my muscles tense. However, I told myself to just focus on effort, not winning. Effort is an aspect of my life that I refuse to overlook, because if I did, how would I accomplish anything? I promised myself to run as if this was the last day of my life. Five, four, three, two, one: the race is on. My feet burst into flames, and I can feel the heat rush through my calves as I begin my race with a quick sprint. A group of speedy runners blaze past me, and I can feel a surge of willpower turn on in my body. I remind myself to run at my own pace, though. I let the remarkable feeling of ... The rating I would give this book is a 5 star because the author pulled me in and kept me reading. If the mind says it's too cold or too rainy or too windy to run, the body will be more than happy to agree. If the mind says it would be better to rest or recover or cut practice, the body will be glad to oblige." "Don't sum up a person based on what you see, or what you don't understand; get to know them" I would totally recommend this book to your friends and family because it is one of the top 3 books I have ever read. After you read this book, you will think the same. The reason I would totally recommend this book is that this book changed how I look at people. Especially special needs kids. This book made me look at someone at my school who is special needs and people shouldn't look at her disability, but they should look at her and think of what kind of person she is. Stress is always fraught in life. Having a stress free life is impossible, but having a stress free day is possible through running. The calming noises of ambient sounds of nature and the "pitter patter" of one's footsteps seem to have a calming effect. I have had days where my stress has driven me over the edge, and there is only one way I can get rid of it, running. Anger and stress fuel me as I race out the door and release it throughout the next hour. My heart pumps rapidly as I take off down the road. My lungs find a rhythm of breathing and I can feel the anger slowly leaving my body like a pulse from each slap of a foot. According to howtobefit.com, "After 20 minutes of exercise the brain starts releasing epinephrine and endorphins into the system, which lower tension and help stress stabilization." So for only twenty minutes a day one can begin to relieve stress from something that can usually cause stress. Many see the foible of running, for they believe it is repetitive and boring. For a runner who wants to improve their time in a race, they need to cover more distance per minute. To achieve running an 11 minute 30 second 3200m a person would run at an average pace of 278.26m/min. This is found by using the same equation v=d/t. • 49. Physics Of Running The Physics Of Running Mokhtar Miguil 10A Running is a sport that is very much connected to physics. Scientists have done many significant research in the past on the physics of running, and I will try to discuss some of the main aspects of it here. There are are many forces acting upon a runner when he/she is pushing off the ground with one foot. The force Fx is the horizontal force due to the contact between the runner's foot and the ground, and the force Fy is the vertical force due to the contact between the runner's foot and the ground. The force Fg is the force due to gravity which pulls down on the runner. This force acts through the center of mass of the runner, represented by the purple dot. During a run the force Fy is greater than Fg in order to lift the runner off the ground as he runs. An Olympic sprinter can push off the ground with a total peak force of more than 1000 pounds (with a time averaged Fx equal to about 200 pounds, which is less than the peak Fx). In contrast, the average person can apply 500–600 pounds of total peak force. Reference: http://www.thepostgame.com/features/201107/usain–bolt–case–study–science–sprinting ... This is the same in the days after I got registered to run my first event and how I ardently developed fortitude and a desire of finishing my first marathon that right away, I began researching and reading information from running publications about doing a marathon. Eagerness and being resolve are feelings I remember stepping into unfamiliar grounds, or I should say the open road as a runner and the operating room (mock at the beginning) as a surgical technology student. The long stretch of open road and the hills that you must run, mile after mile to build stamina and the long lectures and instructions both in the classroom and in your clinical site, that you must pay attention to gain proficiency seems to be daunting at first. But, my enthusiasm grown out of curiosity and ambition is what drives me; both on the track and in the classroom, to move up to the different levels of my training and learning. Taking small steps and pacing myself to

Medical Aspects of Running and Running–related Injuries "Runners are the 'healthiest sick people in the world'", according to ultrarunner Jeff Robbins. In an email that I received from him he added, "One of the problems with the ultras is that you are always stressing things to the limits. Therefore problems tend to crop up. Half the fun in this sport is learning to deal with adversity no matter how it comes." Injury is a runner's most dreaded and aggravating obstacle. Sometimes no matter how much the mind wills it, the body cannot go on without causing itself permanent damage. Pushing beyond these limitations will eventually cause the body to rebel and self–destruct. There are preventative measures that can be taken to stop these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jason Hodde, Jeff Robbins, Norm Yarger, and Karl King each personally emailed me with insightful information on running–related injuries. The listserve is such a great interactive source of information. Who better to learn from but the runners themselves? They are the ones who have to cope with the injuries. Any amount of personal experience through trial and error is better advice than book knowledge. This is the reason why so many runners advise that running–related injuries should be taken to a doctor who has running experience because he will be more inclined to look to rectify the cause of the injury instead of resorting to surgery. The best way to prevent injuries from occurring is to take the appropriate precautionary actions. The first major rule is: don't strain. The majority of running injuries occur from overtraining. It is important for a runner to incorporate hard days and easy days into his/her exercise routine. You need to give your body time to rest so that it can repair itself. Fatigue accumulates and if you don't ease up occasionally, you won't improve. Being overtired will eventually lead to injury because your body needs a chance to recover and strengthen itself. Also, avoid doing too much too soon. Dr. Stephen Pribut suggests that "Mileage should usually only be increased approximately ten percent per week. Every third week, you should drop back a small amount. For most runners one or two days a week, at least, should be devoted to rest or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 66. Running Argumentative Analysis Throughout the ages, running has always been a favored exercise among the people. Whether it be the Greek Olympics back in the first century or the modern–day World Track and Field Championship which recently ended, running has always been around and is considered one of the healthiest exercises by coaches around the globe. But in this generation, more and more people are transforming from highly active human beings into less active couch potatoes. According to the Webster Dictionary, running can be defined as "to run as part of a sport, for exercise, or in a race". I'm not saying every single person should go run for a school cross–country or track team but running as an exercise does improves your lifestyle. Studies have shown that people ... Conquering Endurance Running: Minimizing Risk and Running Injury Free Endurance running is a rewarding experience that puts to test an athlete's courage, perseverance and determination. It is a marvelous wonder how the human body, with the proper conditioning and mental focus, could achieve such tasking running distance. Elite runners complete the marathon course in just over 2 hours, while the average runner completes it in about 4.5 hours. It's difficult to comprehend how someone could run, consistently, for 4.5 hours. The actual marathon is simply a formality as the journey starts the day training begins. The outcome, the day of the marathon, is dependent on how successful the training program was executed. Long distance runners are the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... in Hobson 2007). Dr. Siegel, a marathon runner himself, has studied two phenomena that occurred in marathons that have killed a number of people. Dr. Siegel conducted tests on 60 marathoners, before and after the race. 40 percent of the runners showed evidence of heart damage, although it is important to note that the damage was reversed within days. Another interesting find was that out of the 40 percent who showed damage, the runners with the least amount of training showed the most damage (Hobson 2007). This highlights the importance of proper conditioning during the training phase of the marathon. Although the risk of a heart attack is real, the percentage of fatalities is very low. Data compiled from the Race Associated Cardiac Arrest Event Registry (RACER), show that 1 out of 259,000 participants fell victim to sudden death during a marathon. As outlined in the 2012 RACER study, 42 runners out of the 11 million registered in the database, died as a result of a heart attack. (qtd. in Krumholz 2012). Dr. Krumholz further points out that many of the runners in the RACER study group had a preexisting cardiac abnormality that could have been detected before the event. Dr. Krumholz suggests that participants in these events have a cardiac examination by a physician (2012). Minimizing the risk, or even eliminating it, can be as simple as an initial doctor's checkup and regular annual visits. This is the reason why all marathon events encourage runners to be ... • 72. Physics Of Running Essay Running is quite a brutal sport when it involves distance and proficiency. Force and distance influences how runners run their race in track. They use speed, strength, flexibility and stability. However, when a runner is running hard, the work creates more and more heat. The best way to release the heat is through sweating. With the elements of energy and temperature, the force created doesn't die and is regenerated through the race. By adding coolness in temperature and energy, muscles don't get locked. The last thing anyone wants is an overworked muscle. With an overworked muscle, you don't beat your time. A muscle can work up to around 25 hertz of energy just from generated heat. The heat is based on the size of who is competing and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The physics is located in his work, mass, distance, and speed. His whole body is dependent on the way he resists the air drag and releases the heat. When he comes out of the blocks, he creates a force of 817 newton at a horizontal degree. The speed he keeps throughout the race is about 30 miles per hour. Unlike the runners, he is able to let go of the heat with his resilient suit. Right out of the block, his work is above two thousand and six hundred watts. The force that he creates right out of the starting block is 2600 watts. This then impacts how much energy he uses in his 100–meter sprint. With this much force in speed, he creates 2 watts per hour and 11.6 HP of power, and earns the gold medal. Most runners in a sport run with a back like a pencil, while Bolt's height advances his air drag. His stamina, physique and many other factors help his torso push against the air drag. The force and work causes Usan bolt to win his races. When someone increases the speed, it is the shedding of heat that impacts the race. The shedding of heat is the renewed energy that keeps a leveled speed in the specified distance. Depending on the heat, one can always go the distance with their best shape and speed. I love running because of all the hard work and pain that goes into training, and ends in a personal record.
