The countries of Cuba and the United States have always had a rough time at relations with one another. Cuba, being a self-proclaimed Marxist/Communist country, and the United States, a Democratic “free” society, both view things very differently from one another. These disagreements and differences over the years has caused severe economic damage and instability to Cuba on the higest of government levels, resulting in an inability to trade between both countries for the last 50 plus years in the form of the U.S./ Cuban trade embargo. Cuba is engulfed in a wide variety of culture. Having overcome colonial and imperial rule, Cuba has seen a tremendous amount of internal cultural change and has been heavily influenced by the United States. Cubans come in many colors from the fairest to the darkest. Cubans are Spanish, Haitian, African, and French and speak creole or Spanish. The United States is known for its melting pot of a great deal of cultures As unsettling as it might be, a significant amount of Cubans identify with being white due to negative racial stereotypes of being darker skinned. Illustrate the lack of intercultural communication by clearly defining cultural patterns (theories, identity, and bias, for example) and communication devices (such as communication foundations and taxonomies) between two cultures. Select one or two intercultural communication theories needed to address and possibly resolve the example you have given.
