2. Before the creation of £1.7 million and
what short thriller films involve ?
Before we started looking at we were going to put in our short thriller film we looked at many
different thriller films and what they all involved in the thriller films
All the thriller films had the same conventions and there was lots of similarity within all the
thriller films.
I did a lot of research and planning to really find out what most audiences liked to see in a
thriller film. And what they thought should feature.
And I felt that if I could bring all the aspects together this could make a very successful short
thriller film as it would have all the key aspects and the key conventions.

3. What conventions are usually in a thriller
film or short thriller film
The main types of conventions in thriller films and short thriller films are:
The narrative is usually very subtle and has a very calm start, then it usually has something to
spike the tension and create disruption. Then sometimes the thriller film even has a plot twist
and then finally it goes back to normality
Plot twist: This fits with the narrative as this helps make the narrative more tense which means
that it keeps the audience on their toes.
Then the mise-en-scene is usually darker as most thriller films are dark and what to give the
impression of the main characters.
The editing is the vital part as in most thriller films at the tense parts of thriller films they speed
up the editing to quick cuts to make sure that. The tension is increased throughout the movie

4. What conventions we used ?
I felt the conventions we used was we were able to create a effective plot twist that
the audience wouldn’t expect as everybody thought that the camera man would
turn in the family for what they had done but he got his opinion changed.
Furthermore other conventions we used were the types of camera angles we used
because there were a lot of close ups to really describe what the characters were
feeling. And we also used different tilt angles show something was right and this
gave a clue to the audience about it not being normal.
Also we kept the thriller convention of having a death within in the thriller film. This
is something you see in almost every single short thriller film, but the actual death
wasn’t shown.

5. What conventions we challenged ?
I think there was some we challenged:
I felt that we challenged the type of music conventions as the music we used was slower and
dint really help build the suspense of the scenes but it was effective for what was shown on the
page
Also I feel that we challenged the mise-en-scene of the thriller films as they usually wear darker
clothes to describe their personality. Also we gave them lighter clothes to show it was everyday
life.
Also didn’t show the murder of how the father got killed we kept it off screen so that people
didn’t see what happened. And this meant we could keep the story line flowing effectively. And
also how it wasn’t even showed but explained.

6. How well I thought we used typical
thriller conventions
Overall I would say that are short thriller film was not a usual thriller film and did not use many
conventions throughout the film. So I didn’t feel that it was a typical thriller film but it still
covered all the areas needed.
But I feel that it still did come under the genre of a thriller as it had more conventions than any
other genre.
Overall I feel the short thriller film did challenge, develop and used the typical thriller
conventions the whole way through the short thriller film. However I felt that we could have
used more conventions to maybe make the story line clearer.
