1. Question 2 – How does
your product represent
particular social groups?
2. Social groups - Male in
teens.
Lassus represents the character of a male in his teens
through his short temper and expressing his anger by
hitting the walls as would a male in his late teens may do.
He also represents a male in their teens through his messy
room and not being able to keep organized as how a male
in their late teens would also be.
3. Social group – Male in
teens
Although the messy room does represent a male
In their teens, it also shows that due to Lassus’
deprivation of sleep he is unable to keep himself
organized.
4. Social groups – People
who suffer from Insomnia
One of the main parts of our story is that Lassus is a insomniac. To create
the character Lassus we looked into Insomnia and we looked at what can
cause insomnia, what are the effects of insomnia and what are the
symptoms. A traumatic event in someone’s life can cause insomnia and
for Lassus this was the death of his parents. In the opening sequence we
showed some shots of Lassus seeming dazed and disorientated as this
was also one of the effects of insomnia. For mise en scene we put dark
makeup under the eyes of Lassus to give the effect of his tiredness.
6. Comparison with other characters – Trevor
from The Mechanist
Trevor from the mechanist is around 30 – 40
years old and works at a machinist and Like
Lassus he also suffers from Insomnia which
causes him to be emaciated. We much based
our main character around the main character in
the film The Mechanist. Like Lassus, Trevor is
also seeing somebody in his imagination and
begins to try and track him down. Due to Trevor’s
insomnia he is paranoid, weak and a danger to
others. The cause for Trevor’s insomnia is
unknown unlike Lassus as the reason for Lassus’
insomnia is due to the death of his parents.
7. How does this link into the
target audience?
We wanted Lassus to be able to appeal to a certain
target audience which was late teenagers. We chose
Late teens as on the Pearl and dean website we
found that ages 15 – 24 appealed to psychological
thrillers. Because of this we made Lassus a late
teenager so the audience would be able to relate
better to the character. We also found that more
males than females appealed to psychological
thrillers so we made the main character a male
however we understand that females do also appeal
to psychological thrillers so by making the main
character a male, females may bring out sympathy
for Lassus because of his hard life and what he has
to go through.
