market, cosmetics also have to abide by certain rules and regulations
formulated by the ministry of health under the Medical Device Rules.
What cosmetic products require registration?
Generally speaking, cosmetic products can be classified into two
categories. The ones which are manufactured in India, and the ones
which are imported.
Cosmetics manufactured inside India have to be registered under the
D&C Act 1940. Moreover, under the drugs and cosmetics rules, 1945,
schedule M-II. Cosmetics have been broadly classified into 11 different
