Question 4+5
1. Who would be the audience for
your media product, and how did
you attract address your audience?
Ryan Harris
2. Typical Target audience for a thriller.
The stereotypical target audience for a thriller is roughly 15 or 18 and over.
This is because some aspects of a thriller may be inappropriate for a younger
audience, for example a thriller typically includes a large amount of violence.
For my film opening I have decided to make my target audience for people
that are aged from 18-40. I have done this because I believe it is a little too
violent for younger viewers, especially the torture scene toward the end of
my film. I have also included a much older target audience for my film, this is
because I believe that older audiences may also enjoy the storyline of my
film and because not many people will be able to relate to it as it is un-
realistic. This means that the audience will find this more interesting and
exiting as they can not predict what happens next.
3. Scenes I have used to attract my audience
In my film opening I wanted to attract my target audience as much as I could, but I didn’t
want to give the storyline away too much. This is because if they know too much they
may not want to know more about the film as they know enough. I tried to do this by
making my film opening fairly slow paced so that my audience could keep up and know
what is going on, but I didn’t want my whole film opening to be slow paced as my
audience would lose interest. This is the reason I have included a small torture scene
toward the end of my film opening. I didn’t let the audience know the full story of my
film opening, for example the person that James calls at the start and ending of my film.
This will make the audience want to know who that character is and why he is involved
with the story, this gives the audience even more of a reason to want to watch more.
4. How did I address my audience?
Normally, for a thriller film, it would have been typical for me to make my
film opening very faced paced and exiting. But I have challenged this
stereotype of a thriller by making my film opening much slower than a
normal thriller film opening. I have done this because I believe that it will
make sure that my target audience knows exactly what’s going on and why,
without knowing too much information about the storyline of my film
opening. But, I didn’t want to make my audience lose complete interest of
my fim because it was too slow, so I included a small torture scene, this will
make the audience think about why James is torturing the victim, yes the
audience finds out that the victim may have stolen his money, but they do
not know the reason for it or even if it actually was the victim that James is
torturing. This will keep the audience on the edge of their seats and keep
them wondering what’s going to happen next.
