2. Its more than likely that most people will see the poster before
anything else in my marketing campaign therefore it was
vital that I got it done correctly and dragged audiences in
with it. A poster has a hard task it must catch the attention
and give the audience information about the film and this is
very hard to do with just a still image and the use of cleverly
placed text. I tried to capture the audience’s attention in
many ways but this proved to be exceptionally difficult as
not only was it near impossible to tease a film with out the
help of the trailer therefore I believe that once people have
seen the trailer they will have a better knowledge of what
the poster actually shows therefore it adds a slightly
mysterious aspect to the poster as we don't know who this
man is we just know that we wont see it coming which also
adds mystery to it as what will we not see coming. The text I
believe contrasted well with the image as the white of the
title further backs up the actual name of the film ‘moonlight’
I believe my poster had a strong USP as it was different and
as I said before I believe you need to be different to be
successful, the poster and the magazine front cover both tie
in well with each other as the magazine shows the same
location but instead of the protagonist facing us he is
walking away does this mean his job is done?
3. As my magazine front cover is for such a prestigious name
it was vital I had used this advertisement to the best
that I could as this is likely to be seen by many. I
though well as there hasn't been a modern film noir
take on the classic genre what better way to do it than
to make a special edition magazine just for the genre
this is similar to total films sci fi issues front cover as I
tried to base it around that. To ensure that my
photography was professional enough for such a
prestigious magazine I researched many different ways
I could match the typical conventions and keep it
unique I believe I done this well with this photo as it is
black and white like most noir films and has a clear sky
which could connate purity in the character we see and
allow the audience to perceive as being the good guy
which we find out in the trailer he is a detective which is
typically the protagonist of the film. This cover doesn’t
really reveal to much on the plot side of things as we
don't really have much vital happening but this just
makes the audience want to see the trailer more which
is were I would like to draw the customers in. As this is
a special edition magazine about Film Noir I believe
anyone who has seen my trailer and liked it would want
to pick it up to read more about this old genre that
hasn't been looked at in quite sometime
4. Not only would the trailer be seen in cinemas worldwide it would also be on the
internet to on sites such as YouTube and IMBD. Both websites with huge fan
basses which therefore means that it could attract a lot of people to view my
trailer and help get the film out there to large audience. I tried to allow my
trailer to be attractive to all people not just those who actually like film noir as
in my opinion there all very boring film trailers when it comes to film noir and
it isn't a very popular genre because of how in the past it is, therefore I
believe I have done enough to change what was wrong with old adaptation
of film noir and gave it a modern twist but not enough to class it as a neo
noir. Through out my trailer I used a mixture of shots to build up tension and
create a sense of mystery as I believed this would be the best way to draw
in an audience by making them think what is happening and who is the
person we hear getting shot who is the man walking up the stairs. I believe
the end of my trailer leaves the audience wanting more by throwing out that
there will be a full reveal of the trailer coming soon which means that there is
not long to wait until the questions could be answered .
5. Overall I believe that the combination of my poster, magazine and
trailer all work as effectively as possible for advertising the film. Each
technique features different ideas and maintain stylistic elements of
film noir and they all tie in well together allowing someone who has
seen all 3 of them to try and jigsaw them together to work out more
about the actual film its self. They all feature the same USP which
was to completely baffle the audience and leave them wanting more
and to go against many typical conventions in film noir I believe the
most controversial being that there is no femme fatal in the trailer this
being because I thought there was no need to have one in the teaser
trailer and because frankly I though it was very cheesy to have some
women prancing round being eye candy for the detective when its
fairly obvious that there will be women in the film it leaves the
audience to think what will the eye candy be. I believe I have
effectively teased my trailer without giving to much information away
