2. Amsterdam is the capital and most populous municipality
of the Kingdom of the Netherlands . Its status as the
capital is mandated by the Constitution of the Netherlands
although it is not the seat of the government, which is The
Hague. The name Amsterdam indicative of the city's origin
around a dam in the river Amstel. The 17th-century canals
of Amsterdam and the 19–20th century Defence Line of
Amsterdam are on the UNESCO World Heritage List .

Amsterdam is the commercial capital of the Netherlands and one of the top financial centers in
Europe. The city is also the cultural capital of the Netherlands. The Amsterdam seaport to this

Museum , its red-light district , and its many cannabis coffee shops draw more than 5 million
international visitors annually.

69. De Wallen is the largest and best known red-light
district in Amsterdam. It consists of a network of
alleys containing approximately three hundred
one-room cabins rented by prostitutes who offer
their sexual services from behind a window or
glass door, typically illuminated with red lights.
These "kamers" are the most visible and typical
kind of red light district sex work in Amsterdam
and are a large tourist attraction.
