The document proposes the idea of "Paper zero" to delay envisioned land loss from rising sea levels due to melting glaciers. Paper zero involves stopping the use of paper to save trees and shut down paper mills, reducing pollution and energy usage. This could avert land loss for several more years by controlling CO2 emissions, temperature rise, and glacial melting. Implementing paper zero would have positive environmental impacts and help ensure a greener future with safer fresh water supplies and controlled temperature rise.
[Challenge:Future] 'paper zero' for envisioned landloss
1. ‘Paper zero’ delays
envisioned ‘land loss’
Area: disaster
prevention,
response (few
disasters can
be delayed for
certain period)

2. Envisioned disaster: land loss
• Increase in industrialization sector has
proven boon to getting life more
comfortable, but is this true??
• We all are aware that even a glass can
hold water to some extent ,if
continuously filled it will overflow.
• Similar is the disaster that we may face
in the near future of land loss if the
glaciers starts melting at rapid rate.
• Imagining lifeGlaciers melting will be like
without land
fish without water.

3. Causes leading to
• Deforestation rate has
declined but still the • from industry and fuel
loss has not been combustion
compensated • approx 40 % rise in CO2
since 1750.
• caused glaciers to
melt;
• In last 100 years, • rise in sea level
Earth's average surface average rate of about
temperature increased 3.1 mm per year from
by 0.8 °C (1.4 °F) 1993 to 2003
• two thirds of the
increase in over just
the last three decades. All these factors are causing
indirectly the loss of land with the
rise in sea level

4. Circumstances that has lead to
• The UN's Intergovernmental panel on Climate Change
(IPCC) predicts sea-level rise in the range of 18-59cm during
the 21st century.
• IPCC on CO2 emission: global surface temperature is likely
to rise a further 1.1 to 2.9 °C (2 to 5.2 °F) for their
lowest emission scenario and 2.4 to 6.4 °C (4.3 to 11.5 °F)
for their highest.
• We are just 1.5m over sea level and anything over that, any
rise in sea level – anything even near that – would wipe off
the Maldives.
• SO THE ENVISIONED DISASTER I S
NEARLY 25-30 YEARS or LESS….

5. Idea !!
• Idea is ‘ Paper zero ’ : if we stop using paper than we
save many trees and bring shutdown to paper mills.
• It is estimated 2020 paper mills in EARTH produces a
500,000,000 tons of paper products per year.
• Industry produces on demand, with the zero demand
the product gets worthless value in market .
• This will contribute in preventing the pollution from
paper mills and save energy since the pulp and paper
industry is the fifth largest consumer of energy

This will majorly effect the paper mills( and paper recycling) releasing well over
100 million kg of toxic pollution each year and can save the 4% of whole worlds
energy being utilized.
Discarded paper major component of many landfill sites, accounts for about
35 percent by weight of municipal solid waste which is unnecessary and can be
zeroed.

8. The valued “future”
• The evolving technologies ( IPad ,mobiles,
computers etc.) has itself valued the paper
lower and are making more amazing
discoveries.
• The idea may be known to many but needs to
be implemented soon .
• For the bright future some valuable sacrifices
are worth making.

9. • Paper zero will create impact on others to
think ,the idea will be agreed from every
individual of 21st century .
• Pollution from the paper mills will be
eliminated and will save energy that are
utilized.
• Though paper zero will be the major
contributor as it will add on a fraction of
greenery to planet.
11/27/2011 9
10. Results overall
• The future is lot more greener than today.
• Rise in average temperature will be
controlled.
• The glaciers and the fresh water are safe
here.
• People are more towards giving to planet
than utilizing it.
• The EARTH is the brightest planet to ‘live on’ .

Editor's Notes
Climate model projections are summarized in the 2007 Fourth Assessment Report (AR4) by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC). They indicate that during the 21st century the global surface temperature is likely to rise a further 1.1 to 2.9 °C (2 to 5.2 °F) for their lowest emissions scenario and 2.4 to 6.4 °C (4.3 to 11.5 °F) for their highest.
