*There is difficulty of re-sourcing
education through the traditional means
of face-to-face classroom bound mode.
*There is compelling need to provide
education for all (EFA) irrespective of
environmental, social or cultural
circumstances
Email: service@cfagbata.com
help@cfaleverage.com
www.cfagbata.com
www.cfaleverage.com
*This means that the country must of necessity
find the appropriate and cost effective means
to respond adequately to the huge unmet
demand for education.
*All these emerging situations have signaled to
the need for a comprehensive search for a
more viable, robust, reliable, efficient,
effective, and cost-beneficial educational
solutions, which according to Jegede, 2003 and
Sadeq, 2003 the most logical pathway to
achieve these is by embracing distance
education method.

*Online learning refers to the use of electronic media
and information and communication technologies
(ICT).
*Online learning is inclusive of, and is broadly
synonymous with multimedia learning, technology-
enhanced learning (TEL), computer-based instruction
(CBI), computer-based training (CBT), computer-
assisted instruction or computer-aided instruction
(CAI), internet-based training (IBT), web-based
training (WBT), online education, virtual education,
virtual learning environments (VLE) (which are also
called learning platforms), m-learning, and digital
educational collaborations. Email: service@cfagbata.com

*Educational institutions as well as teachers are
starting to own websites.
*Some now have social media accounts such as
Facebook and Twitter etc.
*Introduction of these methods have changed
the way of learning.
*Presentations are given via use of technology
in the class, use of projectors, laptops,
tablets.

*It is estimated that over 3.6 million people
are enrolled or have taken some type of
online courses. This number is expected to
grow.
*There are two main types of online
educational experiences: webcasts and
synchronous courses.
*In webcasts students watch presentations
by teachers on their browser.
Email: service@cfagbata.com
help@cfaleverage.com
www.cfagbata.com
www.cfaleverage.com
* Synchronous courses requires students to
"attend" a presentation at the same time.
* Online courses are best for shy students,
because the participation grades that
traditional colleges rely so heavily on are
based on different criteria.
* They are also great for busy moms and
working adults who must squeeze in
college classes to fit their working
schedule.

*Currently there are approximately
2,405,518,376 internet users in the
world.
*Nigeria is in one of the top ten internet
users country.
*The internet is used to facilitate online
courses and e-learning.
*Online learning is a growing trend.

*Inclusion of internet in our lives has lead
to a change in hobbies.
*Educational activities like reading have
been replaced by movies and programs.
*Rise of social media usage among the
students.
*Can be utilized for innumerable
educational purposes.

*On-demand education where you can literally
learn anytime and anywhere.
*32% of higher-education students (6.7+ million)
take at least one online course.
*77% of academic leaders rate the online
learning outcomes as the same or superior to
face-to-face learning.
*Video Conferencing
*E-reader for better access to online books.

*Recording of lectures on website (video
lectures).
*Technology helps students to research
and communicate.
*Instant Messaging has led to easy
contacts.
*Time saving process.

* Most lecturers have not changed the way they
teach.
* They still prefer to rely on orthodox methods
of teaching.
* There is need of introducing the latest
methods of teaching into the courses.
* Old method of teaching is not efficient in this
world of internet.
* Teachers should also be well organized for the
students to learn. Email: service@cfagbata.com

*It provides access to current, relevant, global,
immediate information.
*Helps in adapting to a new generation of
learners, tools that are already used by
students.
*Provision of a diverse learning experiences to
students.
*Provides independence from institutional
systems.
*Provides opportunity for mash up/integration.
*Student engagement. Email: service@cfagbata.com

* Creating groups for better communication and
feedback.
* Students who are poor in study can become more
attentive through technology or they may learn from
good students.
* Educational technology is a student-motivator.
* Easy communication with their instructors online.
* Images and videos, virtual classrooms, live webcams.
* Online assignments and saving paper.
* Game-Based learning
(collaboration, communication, problem-solving, and
critical thinking)

*Significant reduction or elimination of costs associated with
instructor fees and materials.
*Reduction of learning time and the amount of time
employees are away from their jobs.
*Increased retention by users and enhanced hands-on
application to the job over traditional training methods.
*Instruction and progress are managed within the framework
of a company web portal.
*Short videos or hands-on exercises offer practice and
assessment activities designed to confirm that a learner has
mastered the performance objectives of the course or
lesson.
*A user's progress is automated and can be monitored by or
shared with one's supervisor
*Interactivity engages users, pushing them rather than
pulling them through training.

*Advanced learners may choose to speed through a
course and bypass instruction that is redundant.
*Beginners or slower learners may determine their own
pace and progress, eliminating frustration with
themselves, their fellow learners, and the subject
matter.
*Knowledge is cumulative; lessons build upon one
another and may be taken in any order.
*Anytime-anywhere learning can greatly increase
knowledge retention.
*Learners may also view or print simple, one-page
"quick start" Job Aids that have step- by-step
procedures and graphic workflow charts illustrating
tasks to be performed. Testing is self-paced.

*In spite of the bright prospect of e-learning in the
country, there are some obstacles militating against
the effective use of the technology in Nigeria.
*Some of these obstacles are; High cost of hardware in
Africa, which are substantially higher than in the
United States.
*High import tariffs and less price competition. -
Transmission cost is equally high in Africa.
*Internet access in Africa is through a foreign gateway. -
Shortage of skilled manpower.
*Companies and institutions are reluctant to invest in
training of staff due to the likelihood that trained staff
will be poached by other institutions and companies.

*Africa has the lowest number of telephone lines per
capital in the world.
*Existing telecommunication infrastructure is in very
poor condition.
*Computer technology illiteracy among the students
from the primary school level.
*Cost of acquiring installing the gadget required for e-
learning.
*Incessant Power Supply
*Lack of affordable dedicated/specialized e-learning
centre.
