The Lyceum committee is accepting proposals for events to be held during the Spring 2010 semester that will contribute to the intellectual life of Dillard University. Proposals should be submitted as soon as possible and must include the name and contact information of the event organizer, event details, budget, and justification for how the event will benefit the university community. Proposals will be reviewed monthly by the Lyceum committee and require additional approval from the Office of Academic Affairs before event organizers can receive funding and publicity. The committee will take responsibility for organizing events this semester due to the deadline having already passed.
Dillard University Lyceum Committee Call For Proposals Spring 2010
1. Lyceum Committee Call for Proposals
The Lyceum committee is now taking proposals for events to occur during the Spring 2010 semester. We will
consider funding events that contribute to the intellectual life of Dillard and its community. According to the
Dillard University Handbook, such events include, but are not limited to: “concerts, recitals, art exhibits, and
special lectures.”
To submit a proposal for a Lyceum event:
Typically, we ask proposals arrive 60 days prior to the event, but as we are already half way into the
Spring semester, this requirement will be waived. However, we encourage you to send proposals as soon as
possible. The sooner a proposal arrives, the more likely it will be considered. The committee and OAA
need sufficient time to review the proposal, and for event organizers to plan and publicize the event. Please
see the review process below about the timing of proposal review.
The proposal must contain the following information to be considered:
• Name and Dillard affiliation of the person organizing the even, plus phone and email
contact information.
• Proposed date(s) of the event.
• Description of the event. This includes the nature of the event, the format, all invited
participants (whether Dillard affiliated or invited from outside Dillard) and the proposed
location.
• Background information on all participants.
• Justification for how the event is expected to contribute to the cultural life of the Dillard
campus and community.
• How the event will be publicized and who you expect to attend.
• Budget. This should include an itemized breakdown of the request as well as the total
funds requested. Also, include monies from other sources if applicable.
Proposal review process
1. Lyceum Chair receives proposal; proposal is distributed to Lyceum committee members.
2. Chair and Secretary convene a meeting of the committee approximately once per month.
3. When committee meets, if quorum has been attained, proposals are discussed and voted on by
the committee.
4. Lyceum Chair forwards approved proposals to the Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) for
budget approval.
5. OAA notifies Chair of approval or denial of event budget.
6. Once events have been approved by both the Lyceum committee and OAA, the proposer is
given a Cost Center code and is able to publicize and plan the event.
Please note:
• Proposals are not guaranteed approval by the Lyceum committee. Once a proposal has
approved by the Lyceum committee, it is not guaranteed budget approval by the OAA.
• Because proposals must be approved by the Lyceum committee and then the OAA,
approval may take several weeks.
• Given the aforementioned time constraints the Lyceum Committee also assumes responsibility for
organizing and hosting events for this semester.
Please send proposals or questions via email to Dr. Alan Colon at acolon@dillard.edu.
